My fascination with the Mahābhārata began in 2003. Despite a demanding work schedule and Bengaluru’s traffic, I wanted to study the text closely. So I converted the entire Mahābhārata into AT&T text-to-speech audio and began listening to it during my daily commute. As I listened continuously to this vast work, I increasingly had the impression that I was hearing different authors speaking through different parts of the text — and, among them, I began to recognise what seemed to me the distinctive voice of Vyāsa.

That observation eventually led to an ambitious undertaking, Project Victory: an attempt to recover the core of Vyāsa’s Mahābhārata and understand the intellectual architecture embedded within it. My fascination with Vyāsa and his work has kept me pursuing this investigation for more than two decades.

iWisdom.in has grown around this journey and now has three interconnected objectives. The first, and central, objective is Project Victory — to investigate the textual layers of the Mahābhārata and recover, as far as the evidence permits, the earlier core associated with Vyāsa’s Jaya!.

The second is to study and provide useful translations of the primary texts needed to understand the wider intellectual world in which the Mahābhārata developed — including the Vedas, Upaniṣads, Darśanas and related literature.

The third is Wisdom for Today: to explore through essays how insights emerging from these ancient texts can remain meaningful and applicable to modern life. Thus, while the Mahābhārata lies at the centre of iWisdom, the journey naturally extends both backward into its intellectual foundations and forward into the continuing relevance of its wisdom.
