Vaisesika Sūtra 2.1.20

निष्क्रमणं प्रवेशनमित्याकाशस्य लिङ्गम् ॥२०॥

niṣkramaṇaṁ praveśanamityākāśasya liṅgam ॥20॥

[निष्क्रमणं प्रवेशनम् इति आकाशस्य लिङ्गम्॥
niṣkramaṇaṁ = exit; praveśanam = entry; iti = thus; ākāśasya = of space; liṅgam = distinguishing mark;॥]

Exit and entry are the distinguishing marks of the space ('ākāśasa').
