Vaisesika Sūtra 4.1.06

महत्यनेकद्रव्यवत्त्वाद् रूपाच्चोपलब्धिः ॥६॥

mahaty anekadravyavattvād rūpāc copalabdhiḥ ॥6॥

[महत् (mahat) - the great ( the primordial substance); अनेक-द्रव्यवत्त्वात् (aneka-dravyavattvāt) - due to possession of many substances; रूपात् (rūpāt) - due to form; च (ca) - and; उपलब्धिः (upalabdhiḥ) - the act of acquiring;]

From 'Mahat', the primordial substance, comes various substances and forms.
