Yōga Sūtra 1.16
तत्परं पुरुषख्यातेर्गुणवैतृष्ण्यम्।
tatparaṁ puruṣakhyātērguṇavaitr̥ṣṇyam।
[तत् परं पुरुष ख्यातेः गुण वैतृष्ण्यम्।
tat = from it stems; paraṁ puruṣa = the supreme personality; khyātēḥ = knowledge of; guṇa = qualities (satva, rajas, tamas); vaitr̥ṣṇyam = indifference to;]
From it stems knowledge of the supreme personality and indifference to the qualities (satva, rajas, tamas).
From dispassion stems the knowledge of super soul and indifference to qualities. Qualities are of three types: satva (driven by need to do good to others), rajas (driven by sensual pleasures), and tamas (driven by ignorance). Bhagavad Gita 17-18th chapter provides a clear description of these three qualities.
