Yōga Sūtra 1.18
विरामप्रत्ययाभ्यासपूर्वः संस्कारशेषोऽन्यः।
virāmapratyayābhyāsapūrvaḥ saṁskāraśēṣō'nyaḥ।
[विराम प्रत्यय अभ्यास पूर्वः संस्कारशेषो अन्यः।
virāma = pause / rest; pratyaya = the thought; abhyāsa = practice; pūrvaḥ = previous; saṁskāraśēṣō = remaining imprints are exhausted; anyaḥ = other;]
Other state (different from the previous stated) occurs by practice of cessation of thought, after the previous imprints are exhausted (samskārashēsho).
The other state implied here is equilibrium state without seed (asamprajnāta). It can manifest fully only after destruction of previous imprints. Till then you may get a glimpse of it only for few seconds. The entire sadhanapada in next section describes the process to be adopted to ensure no new imprints are created, and old imprints are destroyed.
