Yōga Sūtra 2.03
अविद्यास्मितारागद्वेषाभिनिवेशाः पञ्च क्लेशाः।
avidyāsmitārāgadvēṣābhinivēśāḥ pañca klēśāḥ।
[अविद्य अस्मिता राग द्वेष अभिनिवेशाः पञ्च क्लेशाः।
avidya = no-knowledge i.e. ignorance; asmitā = instrumentality of me and mine i.e. ego; rāga = passion; dvēṣa = hatred; abhinivēśāḥ = hankering to live; pañca = five; klēśāḥ = are the obstacles;]
The five obstacles in the path are: ignorance (avidya), ego (asmita), passion (raga), hatred (dveṣa), and hankering to live (abhiniveśa).
The five obstacles are listed. Their causes must be weakened with the help of practice.
