बुद्धिसारं मनस्तम्भमिन्द्रियग्रामबन्धनम्। महाभूतारविष्कम्भं निमेषपरिवेष्टनम् ॥१४-४५-१॥
buddhisāraṃ manastambhamindriyagrāmabandhanam। mahābhūtāraviṣkambhaṃ nimeṣapariveṣṭanam ॥14-45-1॥
[बुद्धिसारं (buddhisāram) - essence of intellect; मनस्तम्भम् (manastambham) - pillar of mind; इन्द्रियग्रामबन्धनम् (indriyagrāmabandhanam) - bond of the group of senses; महाभूतारविष्कम्भं (mahābhūtāraviṣkambham) - support of the sound of the great elements; निमेषपरिवेष्टनम् (nimeṣapariveṣṭanam) - enclosure (or encirclement) of a twinkling (of an eye);]
(Essence of intellect, pillar of mind, bond of the group of senses, support of the sound of the great elements, enclosure of a twinkling.)
The essence of intellect, the foundation of the mind, the bond for the senses, the support of the elements' sound, and the encirclement of a moment (a twinkling of the eye). (14-45-1)
जराशोकसमाविष्टं व्याधिव्यसनसञ्चरम्। देशकालविचारीदं श्रमव्यायामनिस्वनम् ॥१४-४५-२॥
jarāśokasamāviṣṭaṃ vyādhivyasanasañcaram। deśakālavicārīdaṃ śramavyāyāmanisvanam ॥14-45-2॥
[जरा-शोक-समाविष्टं (jarā-śoka-samāviṣṭam) - filled with old age and sorrow; व्याधि-व्यसन-सञ्चरम् (vyādhi-vyasana-sañcaram) - moving with disease and misfortune; देश-काल-विचारीदम् (deśa-kāla-vicārīdam) - reflecting on place and time; श्रम-व्यायाम-अनिस्वनम् (śrama-vyāyāma-anisvanam) - echoing with toil and exertion;]
(Filled with old age and sorrow, moving with disease and misfortune, reflecting on place and time, echoing with toil and exertion.)
Permeated by old age and sorrow, beset by disease and misfortune, conscious of time and place, resounding with fatigue and exertion. (14-45-2)
अहोरात्रपरिक्षेपं शीतोष्णपरिमण्डलम्। सुखदुःखान्तसङ्क्लेशं क्षुत्पिपासावकीलनम् ॥१४-४५-३॥
ahorātra-parikṣepaṃ śītoṣṇa-parimaṇḍalam। sukha-duḥkhānta-saṅkleśaṃ kṣut-pipāsā-vakīlanam ॥14-45-3॥
[अहोरात्रपरिक्षेपं (ahorātra-parikṣepam) - enclosure of day and night; शीतोष्णपरिमण्डलम् (śītoṣṇa-parimaṇḍalam) - sphere of cold and heat; सुखदुःखान्तसङ्क्लेशं (sukha-duḥkha-anta-saṅkleśam) - affliction ending in pleasure and pain; क्षुत्पिपासावकीलनम् (kṣut-pipāsā-vakīlanam) - overpowered by hunger and thirst;]
(Enclosure of day and night, sphere of cold and heat, affliction ending in pleasure and pain, overpowered by hunger and thirst.)
Bound by day and night, encompassed by heat and cold, troubled by alternating pleasure and pain, and beset by hunger and thirst. (14-45-3)
छायातपविलेखं च निमेषोन्मेषविह्वलम्। घोरमोहजनाकीर्णं वर्तमानमचेतनम् ॥१४-४५-४॥
chāyātapavilekhaṃ ca nimeṣonmeṣavihvalam। ghoramohajanākīrṇaṃ vartamānamacetanam ॥14-45-4॥
[छाया-तप-विलेखं (chāyā-tapa-vilekhaṃ) - shadow-heat-marked; च (ca) - and; निमेष-उन्मेष-विह्वलम् (nimeṣa-unmeṣa-vihvalam) - bewildered by shutting and opening (of the eyes); घोर-मोह-जन-आकीर्णं (ghora-moha-jana-ākīrṇam) - filled with people of terrible delusion; वर्तमानम् (vartamānam) - present (existing); अचेतनम् (acetanam) - unconscious;]
(Shadow-heat-marked and bewildered by shutting and opening (of the eyes); filled with people of terrible delusion, present, (yet) unconscious.)
Marked by alternations of shade and sunlight, overwhelmed by blinking and opening of the eyes, filled with people intensely deluded, the present (world) is insentient. (14-45-4)
मासार्धमासगणितं विषमं लोकसञ्चरम्। तमोनिचयपङ्कं च रजोवेगप्रवर्तकम् ॥१४-४५-५॥
māsārdhamāsa-gaṇitaṃ viṣamaṃ lokasañcaram। tamonIcaya-paṅkaṃ ca rajovega-pravartakam ॥14-45-5॥
[मासार्धमासगणितं (māsārdhamāsa-gaṇitam) - measured by a month and a half and a month; विषमं (viṣamam) - uneven; लोकसञ्चरम् (lokasañcaram) - worldly movement; तमोनिचयपङ्कं (tamonIcaya-paṅkam) - mud of a mass of darkness; च (ca) - and; रजोवेगप्रवर्तकम् (rajovega-pravartakam) - that which sets in motion the force of passion;]
(Measured by a month and a half and a month, uneven, worldly movement, mud of a mass of darkness, and that which sets in motion the force of passion.)
Having a duration computed in a month and a half and a month, uneven and connected to worldly movement, being the mire of accumulated darkness and the activator of passionate impulse. (14-45-5)
सत्त्वालङ्कारदीप्तं च गुणसङ्घातमण्डलम्। स्वरविग्रहनाभीकं शोकसङ्घातवर्तनम् ॥१४-४५-६॥
sattvālaṅkāradīptaṁ ca guṇasaṅghātamaṇḍalam। svaravigrahanābhīkaṁ śokasaṅghātavartanam ॥14-45-6॥
[सत्त्वालङ्कारदीप्तं (sattvālaṅkāradīptam) - illumined by the ornament of sattva (pure existence); च (ca) - and; गुणसङ्घातमण्डलम् (guṇasaṅghātamaṇḍalam) - the sphere of the aggregate of guṇas (qualities); स्वरविग्रहनाभीकं (svaravigrahanābhīkam) - having the gathering of sounds as its navel (center); शोकसङ्घातवर्तनम् (śokasaṅghātavartanam) - being the turning (rolling) of the mass of sorrow;]
(Illumined by the ornament of sattva and the sphere of the aggregate of guṇas; having the gathering of sounds as its navel, being the turning of the mass of sorrow.)
Illumined by the ornament of pure existence and surrounded by the sphere of qualities, with the gathering of sounds at its center, it is the wheel of the mass of sorrow. (14-45-6)
क्रियाकारणसंयुक्तं रागविस्तारमायतम्। लोभेप्सापरिसङ्ख्यातं विविक्तज्ञानसम्भवम् ॥१४-४५-७॥
kriyākāraṇasaṃyuktaṃ rāgavistāramāyatam। lobhepsāparisaṅkhyātaṃ viviktajñānasambhavam ॥14-45-7॥
[क्रिया (kriyā) - action; कारण (kāraṇa) - cause; संयुक्तं (saṃyuktaṃ) - joined; राग (rāga) - passion; विस्तारम् (vistāram) - expansion; आयतम् (āyatam) - pervaded; लोभ (lobha) - greed; इप्सा (ipsā) - desire to obtain; परिसङ्ख्यातम् (parisaṅkhyātam) - counted/considered; विविक्त (vivikta) - separated; ज्ञान (jñāna) - knowledge; सम्भवम् (sambhavam) - origin;]
(Action and cause joined, passion's expansion pervaded, counted as greed and desire to obtain, origin from separated knowledge.)
That which is joined with action and cause, pervaded by the expansion of passion, counted as (belonging to) greed and desire to obtain, and arises from separated knowledge. (14-45-7)
भयमोहपरीवारं भूतसंमोहकारकम्। आनन्दप्रीतिधारं च कामक्रोधपरिग्रहम् ॥१४-४५-८॥
bhaya-moha-parivāraṃ bhūta-saṃmoha-kārakam। ānanda-prīti-dhāraṃ ca kāma-krodha-parigraham॥14-45-8॥
[भयमोहपरीवारं (bhaya-moha-parivāram) - having fear and delusion as its retinue; भूतसंमोहकारकम् (bhūta-saṃmoha-kārakam) - causing bewilderment of beings; आनन्दप्रीतिधारं (ānanda-prīti-dhāram) - possessing joy and affection; च (ca) - and; कामक्रोधपरिग्रहम् (kāma-krodha-parigraham) - embracing desire and anger;]
(Having fear and delusion as its retinue, causing bewilderment of beings, possessing joy and affection, and embracing desire and anger.)

महदादिविशेषान्तमसक्तप्रभवाव्ययम्। मनोजवनमश्रान्तं कालचक्रं प्रवर्तते ॥१४-४५-९॥
mahad-ādi-viśeṣānta-masakta-prabhavāvyayam. mano-java-nam-aśrāntaṃ kālachakraṃ pravartate ॥14-45-9॥
[महदादि (mahad-ādi) - from mahat (the great) and onwards; विशेषान्त (viśeṣānta) - ending with viśeṣa (particulars); मसक्त (masakta) - unattached; प्रभव (prabhava) - origin; अव्ययम् (avyayam) - imperishable; मनोजवनम् (manojavanam) - swift as the mind; अश्रान्तम् (aśrāntam) - unwearied; not tired; कालचक्रम् (kālacakram) - the wheel of time; प्रवर्तते (pravartate) - revolves;]
(From the great (mahat) and onwards, ending with the particulars, unattached, origin, imperishable, swift as the mind, unwearied, the wheel of time revolves.)
The imperishable wheel of time, which begins from mahat (the great) down to the particulars, remains unattached, is the origin of all, moves swiftly as the mind, and tirelessly revolves. (14-45-9)
एतद्द्वंद्वसमायुक्तं कालचक्रमचेतनम्। विसृजेत्सङ्क्षिपेच्चापि बोधयेत्सामरं जगत् ॥१४-४५-१०॥
etad-dvandva-samāyuktaṃ kāla-cakram-acetanam। visṛjet saṅkṣipet cāpi bodhayet sāmaraṃ jagat ॥14-45-10॥
[एतत् (etat) - this; द्वंद्व (dvandva) - pair; duality; समायुक्तं (samāyuktam) - joined with; connected; कालचक्रम् (kāla-cakram) - wheel of time; अचेतनम् (acetanam) - unconscious; devoid of mind; विसृजेत् (visṛjet) - should emit; should create; सङ्क्षिपेत् (saṅkṣipet) - should contract; should withdraw; चापि (cāpi) - and also; बोधयेत् (bodhayet) - should awaken; should make aware; सामरम् (sāmaraṃ) - together with the immortals; with the gods; जगत् (jagat) - world; universe;]
(This joined-with-duality wheel of time, unconscious, should create, should contract, and indeed should awaken the world together with the immortals.)
This unconscious wheel of time, joined with duality, should create, contract, and also awaken the world along with the gods. (14-45-10)
कालचक्रप्रवृत्तिं च निवृत्तिं चैव तत्त्वतः। यस्तु वेद नरो नित्यं न स भूतेषु मुह्यति ॥१४-४५-११॥
kālacakrapravṛttiṁ ca nivṛttiṁ caiva tattvataḥ। yastu veda naro nityaṁ na sa bhūteṣu muhyati॥14-45-11॥
[कालचक्रप्रवृत्तिं (kālacakrapravṛttiṁ) - the turning of the wheel of time;' च (ca) - and; निवृत्तिं (nivṛttiṁ) - cessation; withdrawal; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; तत्त्वतः (tattvataḥ) - in reality; in essence; यः (yaḥ) - who; तु (tu) - but; वेद (veda) - knows; नरः (naraḥ) - man; नित्यम् (nityam) - always; न (na) - not; सः (saḥ) - he; भूतेषु (bhūteṣu) - among beings; मुह्यति (muhyati) - is deluded;]
(The turning of the wheel of time and withdrawal indeed in essence; who but knows man always, not he among beings is deluded.)
He who truly knows both the working and cessation of the wheel of time is never deluded among beings. (14-45-11)
विमुक्तः सर्वसङ्क्लेशैः सर्वद्वंद्वातिगो मुनिः। विमुक्तः सर्वपापेभ्यः प्राप्नोति परमां गतिम् ॥१४-४५-१२॥
vimuktaḥ sarvasaṅkleśaiḥ sarvadvandvātigo muniḥ। vimuktaḥ sarvapāpebhyaḥ prāpnoti paramāṃ gatim ॥14-45-12॥
[विमुक्तः (vimuktaḥ) - liberated; सर्वसङ्क्लेशैः (sarvasaṅkleśaiḥ) - from all afflictions; सर्वद्वंद्वातिगः (sarvadvandvātigaḥ) - having gone beyond all dualities; मुनिः (muniḥ) - sage; विमुक्तः (vimuktaḥ) - liberated; सर्वपापेभ्यः (sarvapāpebhyaḥ) - from all sins; प्राप्नोति (prāpnoti) - attains; परमां (paramāṃ) - supreme; गतिम् (gatim) - state;]
(Liberated from all afflictions, having gone beyond all dualities, the sage, liberated from all sins, attains the supreme state.)
The sage who is freed from all afflictions and all dualities, and is liberated from all sins, attains the supreme state. (14-45-12)
गृहस्थो ब्रह्मचारी च वानप्रस्थोऽथ भिक्षुकः। चत्वार आश्रमाः प्रोक्ताः सर्वे गार्हस्थ्यमूलकाः ॥१४-४५-१३॥
gṛhastho brahmacārī ca vānaprastho'tha bhikṣukaḥ। catvāra āśramāḥ proktāḥ sarve gārhasthyamūlakāḥ॥14-45-13॥
[गृहस्थः (gṛhasthaḥ) - householder; ब्रह्मचारी (brahmacārī) - celibate student; च (ca) - and; वानप्रस्थः (vānaprasthaḥ) - forest-dweller; अथ (atha) - and; भिक्षुकः (bhikṣukaḥ) - mendicant; चत्वारः (catvāraḥ) - four; आश्रमाः (āśramāḥ) - stages of life; प्रोक्ताः (proktāḥ) - are said; सर्वे (sarve) - all; गार्हस्थ्यमूलकाः (gārhasthyamūlakāḥ) - rooted in householder;]
(Householder, celibate student and forest-dweller and mendicant; four stages of life are said, all rooted in householder;)
Householder, celibate student, forest-dweller and mendicant—these four stages of life are said to be all rooted in the householder. (14-45-13)
यः कश्चिदिह लोके च ह्यागमः सम्प्रकीर्तितः। तस्यान्तगमनं श्रेयः कीर्तिरेषा सनातनी ॥१४-४५-१४॥
yaḥ kaścid iha loke ca hy āgamaḥ samprakīrtitaḥ। tasya antagamanam śreyaḥ kīrtir eṣā sanātanī॥14-45-14॥
[यः (yaḥ) - who; कश्चित् (kaścit) - anyone; इह (iha) - here; लोके (loke) - in the world; च (ca) - and; हि (hi) - indeed; आगमः (āgamaḥ) - arrival; सम्प्रकीर्तितः (samprakīrtitaḥ) - proclaimed; तस्य (tasya) - his; अन्तगमनम् (antagamanam) - departure; passing away; श्रेयः (śreyaḥ) - better; auspicious; कीर्तिः (kīrtiḥ) - fame; एषा (eṣā) - this; सनातनी (sanātanī) - eternal;]
(Who anyone here in the world and indeed arrival is proclaimed, his departure is better; this fame is eternal (14-45-14))
Whoever in this world is indeed proclaimed as having come, for him, departure is better; this fame is eternal. (14-45-14)
संस्कारैः संस्कृतः पूर्वं यथावच्चरितव्रतः। जातौ गुणविशिष्टायां समावर्तेत वेदवित् ॥१४-४५-१५॥
saṁskāraiḥ saṁskṛtaḥ pūrvaṁ yathāvat-carita-vrataḥ। jātau guṇa-viśiṣṭāyāṁ samāvarteta vedavit ॥14-45-15॥
[संस्कारैः (saṁskāraiḥ) - by purificatory rites; संस्कृतः (saṁskṛtaḥ) - purified; पूर्वं (pūrvam) - before; यथावत् (yathāvat) - duly; चरितव्रतः (carita-vrataḥ) - one who has observed the vows; जातौ (jātau) - in the family/by birth; गुणविशिष्टायां (guṇa-viśiṣṭāyām) - endowed with qualities; समावर्तेत (samāvarteta) - should complete the study; वेदवित् (vedavit) - knower of the Veda;]
(By purificatory rites, purified, before, duly, having observed the vows, in the family endowed with qualities, should complete the study, the knower of the Veda.)
The knower of the Veda who has been purified through sacraments, has duly observed the vows beforehand, and is born in a family endowed with good qualities, should complete his study. (14-45-15)
स्वदारनिरतो दान्तः शिष्टाचारो जितेन्द्रियः। पञ्चभिश्च महायज्ञैः श्रद्दधानो यजेत ह ॥१४-४५-१६॥
svadāranirato dāntaḥ śiṣṭācāro jitendriyaḥ। pañcabhiśca mahāyajñaiḥ śraddadhāno yajeta ha ॥14-45-16॥
[स्वदारनिरतः (svadāranirataḥ) - devoted to one's own wife; दान्तः (dāntaḥ) - self-controlled; शिष्टाचारः (śiṣṭācāraḥ) - observing proper conduct; जितेन्द्रियः (jitendriyaḥ) - one who has subdued the senses; पञ्चभिः (pañcabhiḥ) - with five; च (ca) - and; महायज्ञैः (mahāyajñaiḥ) - great sacrifices; श्रद्दधानः (śraddadhānaḥ) - having faith; यजेत (yajeta) - should perform (sacrifice); ह (ha) - indeed;]
(Devoted to one's own wife, self-controlled, observing proper conduct, one who has subdued the senses, with five great sacrifices and having faith, should indeed perform (sacrifice).)
A man devoted to his own wife, self-controlled, upholding proper conduct, and with subdued senses, should, with faith, indeed perform the five great sacrifices. (14-45-16)
देवतातिथिशिष्टाशी निरतो वेदकर्मसु। इज्याप्रदानयुक्तश्च यथाशक्ति यथाविधि ॥१४-४५-१७॥
devatātithiśiṣṭāśī nirato vedakarmasu। ijyāpradānayuktaś ca yathāśakti yathāvidhi ॥14-45-17॥
[देवतातिथिशिष्टाशी (devatātithiśiṣṭāśī) - one who eats what remains after being offered to gods and guests; निरतः (nirataḥ) - engaged; वेदकर्मसु (vedakarmasu) - in Vedic rituals; इज्याप्रदानयुक्तः (ijyāpradānayuktaḥ) - connected with worship and giving; च (ca) - and; यथाशक्ति (yathāśakti) - according to ability; यथाविधि (yathāvidhi) - according to rule;]
(One who eats what is left after offering to gods and guests, engaged in Vedic rituals, associated with worship and giving, and according to ability, according to rule.)
He eats only what is left after offerings to gods and guests, is engaged in Vedic rituals, is devoted to worship and charity, and acts according to his ability and prescribed rules. (14-45-17)
न पाणिपादचपलो न नेत्रचपलो मुनिः। न च वागङ्गचपल इति शिष्टस्य गोचरः ॥१४-४५-१८॥
na pāṇi-pāda-capalaḥ na netra-capalaḥ muniḥ। na ca vāg-aṅga-capala iti śiṣṭasya gocaraḥ॥14-45-18॥
[न (na) - not; पाणिपादचपलः (pāṇi-pāda-capalaḥ) - restless in hands and feet; न (na) - not; नेत्रचपलः (netra-capalaḥ) - restless in eyes; मुनिः (muniḥ) - sage; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; वागङ्गचपलः (vāg-aṅga-capalaḥ) - restless in speech and limbs; इति (iti) - thus; शिष्टस्य (śiṣṭasya) - of the cultured person; गोचरः (gocaraḥ) - characteristic;]
(Not restless in hands and feet, not restless in eyes is the sage; nor restless in speech and limbs—thus is the characteristic of the cultured person.)
A sage is not restless in hands and feet, nor in eyes; nor is he restless in speech and limbs—this is the characteristic of a cultured person. (14-45-18)
नित्ययज्ञोपवीती स्याच्छुक्लवासाः शुचिव्रतः। नियतो दमदानाभ्यां सदा शिष्टैश्च संविशेत् ॥१४-४५-१९॥
nityayajñopavītī syāc chuklavāsāḥ śucivrataḥ। niyato damadānābhyāṁ sadā śiṣṭaiś ca saṁviśet ॥14-45-19॥
[नित्ययज्ञोपवीती (nityayajñopavītī) - constantly (nitya) wearing the sacred thread (yajñopavītī); स्यात् (syāt) - he should be; शुक्लवासाः (śuklavāsāḥ) - wearing white garments; शुचिव्रतः (śucivrataḥ) - engaged in a pure vow (of cleanliness); नियतः (niyataḥ) - self-controlled; दमदानाभ्यां (damadānābhyāṁ) - by restraint (dama) and by charity (dāna); सदा (sadā) - always; शिष्टैः (śiṣṭaiḥ) - with the virtuous; च (ca) - and; संविशेत् (saṁviśet) - he should reside;]
(He should be constantly wearing the sacred thread, wearing white garments, engaged in a vow of purity, self-controlled by restraint and charity, always with the virtuous, and should reside (with them).)
One should always wear the sacred thread, be dressed in white, maintain a vow of purity, discipline oneself through self-control and charity, always associate with virtuous people, and reside in their company. (14-45-19)
जितशिश्नोदरो मैत्रः शिष्टाचारसमाहितः। वैणवीं धारयेद्यष्टिं सोदकं च कमण्डलुम् ॥१४-४५-२०॥
jitaśiśnodaro maitraḥ śiṣṭācārasamāhitaḥ। vaiṇavīṃ dhārayedyaṣṭiṃ sodakaṃ ca kamaṇḍalum ॥14-45-20॥
[जितशिश्नोदरो (jitaśiśnodaraḥ) - he whose organ and belly are conquered; मैत्रः (maitraḥ) - friendly; शिष्टाचारसमाहितः (śiṣṭācārasamāhitaḥ) - intent on good conduct; वैणवीं (vaiṇavīṃ) - made of bamboo; धारयेत् (dhārayet) - should hold; यष्टिं (yaṣṭim) - staff; सोदकं (sodakam) - with water; च (ca) - and; कमण्डलुम् (kamaṇḍalum) - water-pot;]
(He whose organ and belly are conquered, friendly, intent on good conduct, should hold a staff made of bamboo and a water-pot with water.)
A person who has controlled his organ and stomach, who is friendly and committed to proper conduct, should carry a bamboo staff and a water-pot filled with water. (14-45-20)
अधीत्याध्यापनं कुर्यात्तथा यजनयाजने। दानं प्रतिग्रहं चैव षड्गुणां वृत्तिमाचरेत् ॥१४-४५-२१॥
adhītyādhyāpanaṃ kuryāttathā yajanayājane. dānaṃ pratigrahaṃ caiva ṣaḍguṇāṃ vṛttim ācaret ॥14-45-21॥
[अधीत्य (adhītya) - having studied; अध्यापनं (adhyāpanam) - teaching; कुर्यात् (kuryāt) - should do; तथा (tathā) - likewise; यजन (yajana) - sacrificing (performing sacrifice); याजने (yājane) - causing to offer sacrifice; दानं (dānam) - giving; प्रतिग्रहं (pratigraham) - receiving (gifts); च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; षड्गुणां (ṣaḍguṇām) - sixfold; वृत्तिम् (vṛttim) - activity; आचरेत् (ācaret) - should practice;]
(Having studied, one should teach; likewise, sacrifice, cause others to sacrifice; giving, receiving also indeed—the sixfold activity one should practice.)
Having mastered the Veda, one should teach it; likewise, perform sacrifices and cause others to perform them; give gifts and receive gifts also—these six are the duties one should practice. (14-45-21)
त्रीणि कर्माणि यानीह ब्राह्मणानां तु जीविका। याजनाध्यापने चोभे शुद्धाच्चापि प्रतिग्रहः ॥१४-४५-२२॥
trīṇi karmāṇi yāni iha brāhmaṇānām tu jīvikā। yājanādhyāpane ca ubhe śuddhāt ca api pratigrahaḥ ॥14-45-22॥

(Three actions which here of Brāhmaṇas but (are) livelihood; causing others to perform sacrifice and teaching both; from the pure (source) and also acceptance (of gifts).)
There are three actions which are here the livelihood of Brāhmaṇas: causing others to perform sacrifice, teaching, and, when from a pure source, also the acceptance of gifts. (14-45-22)
अवशेषाणि चान्यानि त्रीणि कर्माणि यानि तु। दानमध्ययनं यज्ञो धर्मयुक्तानि तानि तु ॥१४-४५-२३॥
avaśeṣāṇi cānyāni trīṇi karmāṇi yāni tu। dānamadhyayanaṃ yajño dharmayuktāni tāni tu ॥14-45-23॥

(In those, non-negligence should do in three actions, one who knows dharma, self-restrained, friendly, endowed with patience, equal to all beings, sage.)
One who knows dharma should not be negligent in those three kinds of actions; a sage is self-restrained, friendly, patient, and equal to all beings. (14-45-24)
सर्वमेतद्यथाशक्ति विप्रो निर्वर्तयञ्शुचिः। एवं युक्तो जयेत्स्वर्गं गृहस्थः संशितव्रतः ॥१४-४५-२५॥
sarvam etad yathāśakti vipraḥ nirvartayañ śuciḥ। evaṃ yukto jayet svargaṃ gṛhasthaḥ saṃśitavrataḥ॥14-45-25॥
[सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; everything; एतत् (etad) - this; these; यथाशक्ति (yathāśakti) - according to ability; विप्रः (vipraḥ) - Brāhmaṇa; sage; निर्वर्तयन् (nirvartayan) - performing; accomplishing; शुचिः (śuciḥ) - pure; clean; एवं (evaṃ) - thus; in this way; युक्तः (yuktaḥ) - engaged; endowed; जयेत्त् (jayet) - may conquer; may attain; स्वर्गम् (svargam) - heaven; गृहस्थः (gṛhasthaḥ) - householder; संशितव्रतः (saṃśitavrataḥ) - firm in vow; steadfast in observance;]
(All this, according to ability, Brāhmaṇa, performing, pure; thus, engaged, may attain heaven, householder, firm in vow.)
A householder, firm in his vow, who is pure and performs all this according to his ability, thus engaged, may attain heaven. (14-45-25)
