Sankhya Kārika
Karika 39
सूक्ष्मा मातापितृजाः सह प्रभूतैस्त्रिधा विशेषाः स्युः। सूक्ष्मास्तेषां नियता मातापितृजा निवर्तन्ते ॥३९॥
sūkṣmā mātāpitr̥jāḥ saha prabhūtaistridhā viśēṣāḥ syuḥ। sūkṣmāstēṣāṁ niyatā mātāpitr̥jā nivartantē ॥39॥
[सूक्ष्मा माता पितृजाः सह प्रभूतैः त्रिधा विशेषाः स्युः। सूक्षमाः तेषां नियता माता पितृ जा निवर्तन्ते॥
sūkṣmā = subtle; mātā = mother; pitr̥jāḥ = father burn of; saha = together; prabhūtaiḥ = along with great elements; tridhā = three-fold; viśēṣāḥ = distinguishable; syuḥ = will be; sūkṣamāḥ = subtle; tēṣāṁ = among them; niyatā = being restrained; mātā pitr̥ jā = being born from parents; nivartantē = leaves;]
The subtle one (purusha) having been born to mother and father, combined with the great elements, becomes distinguishable three-fold. The same subtle one (purusha) born to mother and father, being restrained, leaves (after death).
Between birth and death, the being manifests in three-fold, as per the qualities, and restrained by the three qualities he departs.
