citraṁ yathāśrayamr̥tē sthāṇvādibhyō vinā yathā chāyā। tadvadvivinā viśēṣairna tiṣṭhati nirāśrayaṁ liṅgam ॥41॥
[चित्रं यथ आश्रयम् ऋते स्थाणु अदिभ्यो विना यथा छाया। तत् वत् विना विशेषैः न तिष्ठति निराश्रयं लिङ्गम्॥
citraṁ = the picture / painting; yatha = the way; āśrayam r̥tē = taking shelter; sthāṇu = stake / nail / support; adibhyō = and others; vinā = without; yathā = similarly; chāyā = shadow; tat vat vinā = without the principle; viśēṣaiḥ = special object; na = cannot; tiṣṭhati = stand; nirāśrayaṁ = without shelter; liṅgam = of physical body;]
The way wall painting cannot be sheltered without the nail, shadow cannot exist without the principal object, similarly, without being sheltered (by the GOD) the physical body cannot stand.
Again, reference to the God here is indirect and subtle.
