Karika 42
पुरुषार्थहेतुकमिदं निमित्तनैमित्तिकप्रसङ्गेन। प्रकृतेर्विभुत्वयोगान्नटवद् व्यवतिष्ठते लिङ्गम् ॥४२॥
puruṣārthahētukamidaṁ nimittanaimittikaprasaṅgēna। prakr̥tērvibhutvayōgānnaṭavad vyavatiṣṭhatē liṅgam ॥42॥
[पुरुष अर्थ हेतुकम् इदं निमित्त नैमित्तिक प्रसङ्गेन। प्रकृतेः विभुत्व योगात् नटवत् व्यवतिष्ठते लिङ्गम्॥
puruṣa = the purusha; artha = for the sake of; hētukam = being the cause; idaṁ = this; nimitta = instrumental; naimittika = special; prasaṅgēna = with the association of; prakr̥tēḥ = the prakruti; vibhutva = lordship / supremacy; yōgāt = in union; naṭavat = acts; vyavatiṣṭhatē = appears in different roles; liṅgam = the physical body;]
In union with material universe (prakr̥teḥ) the physical body displays lordship and acts in different roles for the sake of Purusha, driven by the instrumental and special causes.
The union of the purusha with the prakr̥ti causes physical body is implicit.
