Vaisesika Sūtra 5.1.08

नोदनविशेषाभावान्नोर्ध्वं न तिर्यग्गमनम् ॥८॥

nodanaviśeṣābhāvān nordhvaṁ na tiryaggamanam ॥8॥

[नोदन-विशेष-अभावात् (nodana-viśeṣa-abhāvāt) - due to absence of specific propulsion; न (na) - not; ऊर्ध्वम् (ūrdhvam) - upward; न (na) - nor; तिर्यग्गमनम् (tiryaggamanam) - lateral movement;]

Due to absence of specific propulsion, there is neither upward nor lateral movement.
