Yōga Sūtra 3.17
शब्दार्थप्रत्ययानामितरेतराध्यासात्सङ्करस्तत्प्रविभागसंयमात्सर्वभूतरुतज्ञानम्।
śabdārthapratyayānāmitarētarādhyāsātsaṅkarastatpravibhāgasaṁyamātsarvabhūtarutajñānam।
[शब्द अर्थ प्रत्ययानाम् इतरेतर अध्यासात् सङ्करः तत् प्रविभाग संयमात् सर्व भूत रुत ज्ञानम्।
śabda = word; artha = meaning; pratyayānām = and belief; itarētara = being different; adhyāsāt = imposing on each other; saṅkaraḥ = get mixed up; tat = by their; pravibhāga = distinct understanding; saṁyamāt = through integration; sarva bhūta = of all beings; ruta = characteristic activities; jñānam knowledge of;]
The word, the meaning, and the belief, though different being imposed on each other, get mixed up; By integrating their distinct understanding, one gains knowledge of all beings and their characteristic activities.
