श्रीभगवानुवाच॥
śrībhagavānuvāca॥
[श्री (śrī) - auspicious; भगवान् (bhagavān) - Lord; उवाच (uvāca) - said;]
(The auspicious Lord said:)
The Blessed Lord said:
मय्यासक्तमनाः पार्थ योगं युञ्जन्मदाश्रयः। असंशयं समग्रं मां यथा ज्ञास्यसि तच्छृणु ॥६-२९-१॥
mayyāsaktamanāḥ pārtha yogaṃ yuñjanmadāśrayaḥ। asaṃśayaṃ samagraṃ māṃ yathā jñāsyasi tacchṛṇu ॥6-29-1॥
[मयि (mayi) - in me; आसक्तमनाः (āsaktamanāḥ) - with mind attached; पार्थ (pārtha) - O son of Pritha; योगं (yogam) - yoga; युञ्जन् (yuñjan) - practicing; मत् (mat) - my; आश्रयः (āśrayaḥ) - shelter; असंशयं (asaṃśayam) - without doubt; समग्रम् (samagram) - completely; माम् (mām) - me; यथा (yathā) - as; ज्ञास्यसि (jñāsyasi) - you will know; तत् (tat) - that; शृणु (śṛṇu) - hear;]
(With mind attached to me, O son of Pritha, practicing yoga, taking shelter in me, without doubt, you will completely know me. Hear that.)
O son of Pritha, with your mind attached to me and practicing yoga under my shelter, you will undoubtedly come to know me completely. Listen to this.
ज्ञानं तेऽहं सविज्ञानमिदं वक्ष्याम्यशेषतः। यज्ज्ञात्वा नेह भूयोऽन्यज्ज्ञातव्यमवशिष्यते ॥६-२९-२॥
jñānaṃ te'haṃ savijñānamidaṃ vakṣyāmyaśeṣataḥ। yajjñātvā neha bhūyo'nyajjñātavyamavaśiṣyate ॥6-29-2॥
[ज्ञानम् (jñānam) - knowledge; ते (te) - to you; अहम् (aham) - I; सविज्ञानम् (savijñānam) - with realization; इदम् (idam) - this; वक्ष्यामि (vakṣyāmi) - will explain; अशेषतः (aśeṣataḥ) - completely; यत् (yat) - which; ज्ञात्वा (jñātvā) - having known; न (na) - not; इह (iha) - here; भूयः (bhūyaḥ) - further; अन्यत् (anyat) - other; ज्ञातव्यम् (jñātavyam) - to be known; अवशिष्यते (avaśiṣyate) - remains;]
(I will explain to you this knowledge along with realization completely; having known which, nothing else remains to be known here.)
I will impart to you this knowledge in full, along with its realization, after knowing which, nothing else remains to be known in this world.
मनुष्याणां सहस्रेषु कश्चिद्यतति सिद्धये। यततामपि सिद्धानां कश्चिन्मां वेत्ति तत्त्वतः ॥६-२९-३॥
manuṣyāṇāṃ sahasreṣu kaścidyatati siddhaye। yatatāmapi siddhānāṃ kaścinmāṃ vetti tattvataḥ ॥6-29-3॥
[मनुष्याणां (manuṣyāṇāṃ) - of men; सहस्रेषु (sahasreṣu) - among thousands; कश्चित् (kaścit) - someone; यतति (yatati) - strives; सिद्धये (siddhaye) - for perfection; यतताम् (yatatām) - of those who strive; अपि (api) - even; सिद्धानां (siddhānāṃ) - of the perfected; कश्चित् (kaścit) - someone; माम् (mām) - me; वेत्ति (vetti) - knows; तत्त्वतः (tattvataḥ) - in truth;]
(Among thousands of men, someone strives for perfection. Even among those who strive and are perfected, someone knows me in truth.)
Out of thousands of people, only one strives for spiritual success, and even among those successful ones, only a rare individual truly understands me.
भूमिरापोऽनलो वायुः खं मनो बुद्धिरेव च। अहङ्कार इतीयं मे भिन्ना प्रकृतिरष्टधा ॥६-२९-४॥
bhūmir āpo 'nalo vāyuḥ khaṃ mano buddhir eva ca। ahaṅkāra itīyaṃ me bhinnā prakṛtir aṣṭadhā ॥6-29-4॥
[भूमिः (bhūmiḥ) - earth; आपः (āpaḥ) - water; अनलः (analaḥ) - fire; वायुः (vāyuḥ) - air; खम् (kham) - ether; मनः (manaḥ) - mind; बुद्धिः (buddhiḥ) - intellect; एव (eva) - certainly; च (ca) - and; अहङ्कारः (ahaṅkāraḥ) - ego; इति (iti) - thus; इयम् (iyam) - this; मे (me) - my; भिन्ना (bhinnā) - divided; प्रकृतिः (prakṛtiḥ) - nature; अष्टधा (aṣṭadhā) - eightfold;]
(Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intellect, and ego—thus, this is my nature divided eightfold.)
The elements of earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intellect, and ego constitute my eightfold divided nature.
अपरेयमितस्त्वन्यां प्रकृतिं विद्धि मे पराम्। जीवभूतां महाबाहो ययेदं धार्यते जगत् ॥६-२९-५॥
apareyam itas tvanyāṁ prakṛtiṁ viddhi me parām। jīvabhūtāṁ mahābāho yayedaṁ dhāryate jagat ॥6-29-5॥
[अपरा (aparā) - inferior; इयम् (iyam) - this; इतः (itaḥ) - from this; त्व (tva) - but; अन्याम् (anyām) - another; प्रकृतिम् (prakṛtim) - nature; विद्धि (viddhi) - know; मे (me) - my; पराम् (parām) - superior; जीवभूताम् (jīvabhūtām) - living entity; महाबाहो (mahābāho) - O mighty-armed; या (yā) - which; येदम् (yedaṁ) - by which this; धार्यते (dhāryate) - is sustained; जगत् (jagat) - the world;]
(This is inferior, but know my superior nature, O mighty-armed, which is the living entity by which this world is sustained.)
"This inferior nature is different, but know my superior nature, O mighty-armed, which is the living entity that sustains the world."
एतद्योनीनि भूतानि सर्वाणीत्युपधारय। अहं कृत्स्नस्य जगतः प्रभवः प्रलयस्तथा ॥६-२९-६॥
etadyonīni bhūtāni sarvāṇītyupadhāraya। ahaṃ kṛtsnasya jagataḥ prabhavaḥ pralayastathā ॥6-29-6॥
[एतद् (etad) - this; योनीनि (yonīni) - origins; भूतानि (bhūtāni) - beings; सर्वाणि (sarvāṇi) - all; इति (iti) - thus; उपधारय (upadhāraya) - understand; अहम् (aham) - I; कृत्स्नस्य (kṛtsnasya) - of the entire; जगतः (jagataḥ) - world; प्रभवः (prabhavaḥ) - origin; प्रलयः (pralayaḥ) - dissolution; तथा (tathā) - also;]
(Understand that all beings have their origin in this. I am the origin and dissolution of the entire world.)
Understand that all beings originate from this source. I am the creator and destroyer of the entire universe.
मत्तः परतरं नान्यत्किञ्चिदस्ति धनञ्जय। मयि सर्वमिदं प्रोतं सूत्रे मणिगणा इव ॥६-२९-७॥
mattaḥ parataraṃ nānyatkiñcidasti dhanañjaya। mayi sarvamidaṃ protaṃ sūtre maṇigaṇā iva ॥6-29-7॥
[मत्तः (mattaḥ) - from me; परतरं (parataraṃ) - higher; न (na) - not; अन्यत् (anyat) - other; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - anything; अस्ति (asti) - exists; धनञ्जय (dhanañjaya) - O Dhananjaya; मयि (mayi) - in me; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; इदम् (idam) - this; प्रोतम् (protam) - is woven; सूत्रे (sūtre) - in the thread; मणिगणाः (maṇigaṇāḥ) - beads; इव (iva) - like;]
(There is nothing higher than me, O Dhananjaya. All this is woven in me, like beads in a thread.)
O Dhananjaya, there is nothing superior to me. Everything is pervaded by me, just as beads are strung on a thread.
रसोऽहमप्सु कौन्तेय प्रभास्मि शशिसूर्ययोः। प्रणवः सर्ववेदेषु शब्दः खे पौरुषं नृषु ॥६-२९-८॥
raso'hamapsu kaunteya prabhāsmi śaśisūryayoḥ। praṇavaḥ sarvavedeṣu śabdaḥ khe pauruṣaṃ nṛṣu ॥6-29-8॥
[रसः (rasaḥ) - essence; अहम् (aham) - I; अप्सु (apsu) - in water; कौन्तेय (kaunteya) - O son of Kunti; प्रभा (prabhā) - light; अस्मि (asmi) - am; शशि (śaśi) - moon; सूर्ययोः (sūryayoḥ) - and sun; प्रणवः (praṇavaḥ) - the syllable Om; सर्व (sarva) - in all; वेदेषु (vedeṣu) - Vedas; शब्दः (śabdaḥ) - sound; खे (khe) - in ether; पौरुषम् (pauruṣam) - ability; नृषु (nṛṣu) - in men;]
(I am the essence in water, O son of Kunti, the light in the moon and the sun; the syllable Om in all the Vedas, the sound in ether, and the ability in men.)
O son of Kunti, I am the essence present in water, the radiance in the moon and the sun, the sacred syllable Om in all the Vedas, the sound in the sky, and the prowess in men.
पुण्यो गन्धः पृथिव्यां च तेजश्चास्मि विभावसौ। जीवनं सर्वभूतेषु तपश्चास्मि तपस्विषु ॥६-२९-९॥
puṇyo gandhaḥ pṛthivyāṃ ca tejaścāsmi vibhāvasau। jīvanaṃ sarvabhūteṣu tapaścāsmi tapasviṣu ॥6-29-9॥
[पुण्यः (puṇyaḥ) - pure; गन्धः (gandhaḥ) - fragrance; पृथिव्यां (pṛthivyāṃ) - in the earth; च (ca) - and; तेजः (tejaḥ) - splendor; च (ca) - and; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; विभावसौ (vibhāvasau) - in the fire; जीवनं (jīvanaṃ) - life; सर्व (sarva) - all; भूतेषु (bhūteṣu) - in beings; तपः (tapaḥ) - austerity; च (ca) - and; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; तपस्विषु (tapasviṣu) - among ascetics;]
(I am the pure fragrance in the earth and the splendor in the fire. I am life in all beings and austerity among ascetics.)
I am the pure fragrance of the earth and the brilliance in the fire. I am the life force in all creatures and the austerity in ascetics.
बीजं मां सर्वभूतानां विद्धि पार्थ सनातनम्। बुद्धिर्बुद्धिमतामस्मि तेजस्तेजस्विनामहम् ॥६-२९-१०॥
bījaṃ māṃ sarvabhūtānāṃ viddhi pārtha sanātanam। buddhirbuddhimatāmasmi tejastejasvināmaham ॥6-29-10॥
[बीजम् (bījam) - seed; माम् (mām) - me; सर्वभूतानाम् (sarvabhūtānām) - of all beings; विद्धि (viddhi) - know; पार्थ (pārtha) - O son of Pritha; सनातनम् (sanātanam) - eternal; बुद्धिः (buddhiḥ) - intelligence; बुद्धिमताम् (buddhimatām) - of the intelligent; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; तेजः (tejaḥ) - splendor; तेजस्विनाम् (tejasvinām) - of the splendid; अहम् (aham) - I am;]
(Know me as the eternal seed of all beings, O son of Pritha. I am the intelligence of the intelligent and the splendor of the splendid.)
O Arjuna, understand that I am the eternal seed of all creatures. I am the intellect of the wise and the brilliance of the brilliant.
बलं बलवतां चाहं कामरागविवर्जितम्। धर्माविरुद्धो भूतेषु कामोऽस्मि भरतर्षभ ॥६-२९-११॥
balaṁ balavatāṁ cāhaṁ kāmarāgavivarjitam। dharmāviruddho bhūteṣu kāmo'smi bharatarṣabha ॥6-29-11॥
[बलम् (balam) - strength; बलवताम् (balavatām) - of the strong; च (ca) - and; अहम् (aham) - I; कामरागविवर्जितम् (kāmarāgavivarjitam) - free from desire and attachment; धर्माविरुद्धः (dharmāviruddhaḥ) - not against dharma; भूतेषु (bhūteṣu) - among beings; कामः (kāmaḥ) - desire; अस्मि (asmi) - am; भरतर्षभ (bharatarṣabha) - O chief of the Bharatas;]
(I am the strength of the strong, free from desire and attachment. I am the desire in beings that is not against dharma, O chief of the Bharatas.)
I am the strength of the strong, devoid of desire and attachment. I am the righteous desire present in all beings, O best of the Bharatas.
ये चैव सात्त्विका भावा राजसास्तामसाश्च ये। मत्त एवेति तान्विद्धि न त्वहं तेषु ते मयि ॥६-२९-१२॥
ye caiva sāttvikā bhāvā rājasāstāmasāśca ye। matta eveti tānviddhi na tvahaṃ teṣu te mayi ॥6-29-12॥
[ये (ye) - those who; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - certainly; सात्त्विका (sāttvikā) - in the mode of goodness; भावा (bhāvā) - natures; राजसाः (rājasāḥ) - in the mode of passion; तामसाः (tāmasāḥ) - in the mode of ignorance; च (ca) - and; ये (ye) - those who; मत्तः (mattaḥ) - from me; एव (eva) - certainly; इति (iti) - thus; तान् (tān) - them; विद्धि (viddhi) - know; न (na) - not; तु (tu) - but; अहम् (aham) - I; तेषु (teṣu) - in them; ते (te) - they; मयि (mayi) - in me;]
(Those who are in the mode of goodness, passion, and ignorance, know them to be from me alone, but I am not in them, they are in me.)
The qualities of goodness, passion, and ignorance are born of me. They are in me, but I am not in them.
त्रिभिर्गुणमयैर्भावैरेभिः सर्वमिदं जगत्। मोहितं नाभिजानाति मामेभ्यः परमव्ययम् ॥६-२९-१३॥
tribhirguṇamayairbhāvairebhiḥ sarvamidaṃ jagat। mohitaṃ nābhijānāti māmebhyaḥ paramavyayam ॥6-29-13॥
[त्रिभिः (tribhiḥ) - by the three; गुणमयैः (guṇamayaiḥ) - composed of qualities; भावैः (bhāvaiḥ) - by states; एभिः (ebhiḥ) - by these; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; इदम् (idam) - this; जगत् (jagat) - world; मोहितम् (mohitam) - deluded; न (na) - not; अभिजानाति (abhijānāti) - knows; माम् (mām) - me; एभ्यः (ebhyaḥ) - from these; परम् (param) - beyond; अव्ययम् (avyayam) - imperishable;]
(The entire world, deluded by these states composed of the three qualities, does not know Me, who is beyond these and imperishable.)
The whole world is deluded by these three modes of material nature and does not recognize Me as the Supreme, who is beyond these and eternal.
दैवी ह्येषा गुणमयी मम माया दुरत्यया। मामेव ये प्रपद्यन्ते मायामेतां तरन्ति ते ॥६-२९-१४॥
daivī hyeṣā guṇamayī mama māyā duratyayā। māmeva ye prapadyante māyāmetāṁ taranti te ॥6-29-14॥
[दैवी (daivī) - divine; हि (hi) - indeed; एषा (eṣā) - this; गुणमयी (guṇamayī) - composed of qualities; मम (mama) - my; माया (māyā) - illusion; दुरत्यया (duratyayā) - difficult to overcome; माम् (mām) - me; एव (eva) - only; ये (ye) - who; प्रपद्यन्ते (prapadyante) - surrender; मायाम् (māyām) - illusion; एताम् (etām) - this; तरन्ति (taranti) - cross; ते (te) - they;]
(Divine indeed is this illusion of mine, composed of qualities and difficult to overcome. Only those who surrender to me can cross this illusion.)
This divine illusion of mine, composed of the three modes of nature, is difficult to overcome. However, those who take refuge in me can easily cross beyond it.
न मां दुष्कृतिनो मूढाः प्रपद्यन्ते नराधमाः। माययापहृतज्ञाना आसुरं भावमाश्रिताः ॥६-२९-१५॥
na māṃ duṣkṛtino mūḍhāḥ prapadyante narādhamāḥ। māyayāpahṛtajñānā āsuraṃ bhāvamāśritāḥ ॥6-29-15॥
[न (na) - not; माम् (mām) - me; दुष्कृतिनः (duṣkṛtinaḥ) - evildoers; मूढाः (mūḍhāḥ) - fools; प्रपद्यन्ते (prapadyante) - surrender; नराधमाः (narādhamāḥ) - lowest among men; मायया (māyayā) - by illusion; अपहृत (apahṛta) - stolen; ज्ञानाः (jñānāḥ) - knowledge; आसुरम् (āsuram) - demonic; भावम् (bhāvam) - nature; आश्रिताः (āśritāḥ) - taken refuge;]
(Evildoers, fools, and the lowest among men, whose knowledge is stolen by illusion, do not surrender to me; they have taken refuge in a demonic nature.)
The evildoers, the foolish, and the lowest among men, whose knowledge has been stolen by illusion, do not surrender to me. They are absorbed in a demonic nature.
चतुर्विधा भजन्ते मां जनाः सुकृतिनोऽर्जुन। आर्तो जिज्ञासुरर्थार्थी ज्ञानी च भरतर्षभ ॥६-२९-१६॥
caturvidhā bhajante māṁ janāḥ sukṛtino'rjuna। ārto jijñāsurarthārthī jñānī ca bharatarṣabha ॥6-29-16॥
[चतुर्विधा (caturvidhā) - four kinds; भजन्ते (bhajante) - worship; मां (māṁ) - me; जनाः (janāḥ) - people; सुकृतिनः (sukṛtinaḥ) - the virtuous; अर्जुन (arjuna) - Arjuna; आर्तः (ārtaḥ) - the distressed; जिज्ञासुः (jijñāsuḥ) - the inquisitive; अर्थार्थी (arthārthī) - the seeker of wealth; ज्ञानी (jñānī) - the wise; च (ca) - and; भरतर्षभ (bharatarṣabha) - O best among the Bharatas;]
(Four kinds of virtuous people worship me, O Arjuna: the distressed, the inquisitive, the seeker of wealth, and the wise, O best among the Bharatas.)
O Arjuna, four types of virtuous people worship me: those who are distressed, those who seek knowledge, those who desire wealth, and those who are wise, O best of the Bharatas.
तेषां ज्ञानी नित्ययुक्त एकभक्तिर्विशिष्यते। प्रियो हि ज्ञानिनोऽत्यर्थमहं स च मम प्रियः ॥६-२९-१७॥
teṣāṃ jñānī nityayukta ekabhaktirviśiṣyate। priyo hi jñānino'tyarthamahaṃ sa ca mama priyaḥ ॥6-29-17॥
[तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; ज्ञानी (jñānī) - wise one; नित्ययुक्तः (nityayuktaḥ) - constantly engaged; एकभक्तिः (ekabhaktiḥ) - with single devotion; विशिष्यते (viśiṣyate) - is distinguished; प्रियः (priyaḥ) - dear; हि (hi) - indeed; ज्ञानिनः (jñāninaḥ) - to the wise one; अत्यर्थम् (atyartham) - exceedingly; अहम् (aham) - I; सः (saḥ) - he; च (ca) - and; मम (mama) - to me; प्रियः (priyaḥ) - dear;]
(Among them, the wise one, constantly engaged with single devotion, is distinguished. Indeed, the wise one is exceedingly dear to me, and I am dear to him.)
Among all, the wise person who is constantly engaged with single-minded devotion is the most distinguished. The wise are exceedingly dear to me, and I am dear to them.
उदाराः सर्व एवैते ज्ञानी त्वात्मैव मे मतम्। आस्थितः स हि युक्तात्मा मामेवानुत्तमां गतिम् ॥६-२९-१८॥
udārāḥ sarva evaite jñānī tvātmaiva me matam। āsthitaḥ sa hi yuktātmā māmevānuttamāṃ gatim ॥6-29-18॥
[उदाराः (udārāḥ) - noble; सर्वे (sarve) - all; एव (eva) - indeed; एते (ete) - these; ज्ञानी (jñānī) - wise; तु (tu) - but; आत्मा (ātmā) - self; एव (eva) - only; मे (me) - my; मतम् (matam) - opinion; आस्थितः (āsthitaḥ) - situated; स (sa) - he; हि (hi) - indeed; युक्तात्मा (yuktātmā) - united in mind; माम् (mām) - me; एव (eva) - only; अनुत्तमां (anuttamāṃ) - supreme; गतिम् (gatim) - goal;]
(Noble are all these indeed, but the wise one is considered as my very self. He, being united in mind, is indeed situated in me as the supreme goal.)

बहूनां जन्मनामन्ते ज्ञानवान्मां प्रपद्यते। वासुदेवः सर्वमिति स महात्मा सुदुर्लभः ॥६-२९-१९॥
bahūnāṁ janmanāmante jñānavānmāṁ prapadyate। vāsudevaḥ sarvamiti sa mahātmā sudurlabhaḥ ॥6-29-19॥
[बहूनाम् (bahūnām) - of many; जन्मनाम् (janmanām) - births; अन्ते (ante) - at the end; ज्ञानवान् (jñānavān) - one with knowledge; माम् (mām) - me; प्रपद्यते (prapadyate) - surrenders; वासुदेवः (vāsudevaḥ) - Vasudeva; सर्वम् (sarvam) - everything; इति (iti) - thus; स (sa) - that; महात्मा (mahātmā) - great soul; सुदुर्लभः (sudurlabhaḥ) - very rare;]
(At the end of many births, one with knowledge surrenders to me, realizing that Vasudeva is everything; such a great soul is very rare.)

कामैस्तैस्तैर्हृतज्ञानाः प्रपद्यन्तेऽन्यदेवताः। तं तं नियममास्थाय प्रकृत्या नियताः स्वया ॥६-२९-२०॥
kāmaistaistairhṛtajñānāḥ prapadyante'nyadevatāḥ। taṃ taṃ niyamamāsthāya prakṛtyā niyatāḥ svayā ॥6-29-20॥
[कामैः (kāmaiḥ) - by desires; तैः (taiḥ) - by those; तैः (taiḥ) - by those; हृत (hṛta) - stolen; ज्ञानाः (jñānāḥ) - knowledge; प्रपद्यन्ते (prapadyante) - surrender; अन्य (anya) - other; देवताः (devatāḥ) - gods; तं (tam) - that; तं (tam) - that; नियमम् (niyamam) - rule; आस्थाय (āsthāya) - following; प्रकृत्या (prakṛtyā) - by nature; नियताः (niyatāḥ) - controlled; स्वया (svayā) - by their own;]
(By those desires, whose knowledge is stolen, they surrender to other gods, following that rule, controlled by their own nature.)
Those whose knowledge is stolen by various desires surrender to other gods, following specific rules, and are controlled by their own nature.
यो यो यां यां तनुं भक्तः श्रद्धयार्चितुमिच्छति। तस्य तस्याचलां श्रद्धां तामेव विदधाम्यहम् ॥६-२९-२१॥
yo yo yāṃ yāṃ tanuṃ bhaktaḥ śraddhayārcitumicchati। tasya tasyācalāṃ śraddhāṃ tāmeva vidadhāmyaham ॥6-29-21॥
[यः (yaḥ) - who; यः (yaḥ) - who; याम् (yām) - which; याम् (yām) - which; तनुम् (tanum) - form; भक्तः (bhaktaḥ) - devotee; श्रद्धया (śraddhayā) - with faith; अर्चितुम् (arcitum) - to worship; इच्छति (icchati) - desires; तस्य (tasya) - of that; तस्य (tasya) - of that; अचलाम् (acalām) - unwavering; श्रद्धाम् (śraddhām) - faith; ताम् (tām) - that; एव (eva) - indeed; विदधामि (vidadhāmi) - I bestow; अहम् (aham) - I;]
(Whoever desires to worship whichever form with faith, I indeed bestow that unwavering faith of that devotee.)
Whenever a devotee desires to worship any form with faith, I make that faith steady and unwavering.
स तया श्रद्धया युक्तस्तस्या राधनमीहते। लभते च ततः कामान्मयैव विहितान्हि तान् ॥६-२९-२२॥
sa tayā śraddhayā yuktastasyā rādhanamīhate। labhate ca tataḥ kāmānmayaiva vihitānhi tān ॥6-29-22॥
[स (sa) - he; तया (tayā) - with that; श्रद्धया (śraddhayā) - faith; युक्तः (yuktaḥ) - endowed; तस्या (tasyā) - of her; राधनम् (rādhanam) - worship; ईहते (īhate) - desires; लभते (labhate) - obtains; च (ca) - and; ततः (tataḥ) - then; कामान् (kāmān) - desires; मया (mayā) - by me; एव (eva) - indeed; विहितान् (vihitān) - ordained; हि (hi) - certainly; तान् (tān) - those;]
(He, endowed with that faith, desires her worship. And then he obtains those desires, indeed ordained by me.)
With that faith, he engages in her worship and attains the desires that I have ordained for him.
अन्तवत्तु फलं तेषां तद्भवत्यल्पमेधसाम्। देवान्देवयजो यान्ति मद्भक्ता यान्ति मामपि ॥६-२९-२३॥
antavattu phalaṁ teṣāṁ tadbhavatyalpamedhasām। devāndevayajo yānti madbhaktā yānti māmapi ॥6-29-23॥
[अन्तवत् (antavat) - having an end; तु (tu) - but; फलं (phalaṁ) - fruit; तेषां (teṣāṁ) - of them; तत् (tat) - that; भवति (bhavati) - becomes; अल्पमेधसाम् (alpamedhasām) - of those with small intelligence; देवान् (devān) - to the gods; देवयजः (devayajaḥ) - worshippers of the gods; यान्ति (yānti) - go; मद्भक्ताः (madbhaktāḥ) - My devotees; यान्ति (yānti) - go; माम् (mām) - to Me; अपि (api) - also;]
(The fruit of those with small intelligence is indeed perishable; they go to the gods, but My devotees also come to Me.)
Those who worship the gods go to the gods, but My devotees come to Me. The results of worshipping the gods are temporary, while devotion to Me leads to eternal union.
अव्यक्तं व्यक्तिमापन्नं मन्यन्ते मामबुद्धयः। परं भावमजानन्तो ममाव्ययमनुत्तमम् ॥६-२९-२४॥
avyaktaṁ vyaktimāpannaṁ manyante māmabuddhayaḥ। paraṁ bhāvamajānanto mamāvyayamanuttamam ॥6-29-24॥
[अव्यक्तं (avyaktam) - unmanifest; व्यक्तिम् (vyaktim) - manifest; आपन्नं (āpannam) - having attained; मन्यन्ते (manyante) - think; माम् (mām) - me; अबुद्धयः (abuddhayaḥ) - foolish; परं (param) - supreme; भावम् (bhāvam) - nature; अजानन्तः (ajānantaḥ) - not knowing; मम (mama) - my; अव्ययम् (avyayam) - imperishable; अनुत्तमम् (anuttamam) - unsurpassed;]
(The foolish think of me as having attained manifestation from the unmanifest, not knowing my supreme, imperishable, unsurpassed nature.)
The ignorant believe that I, the unmanifest, have become manifest, not understanding my supreme, imperishable, and unsurpassed nature.
नाहं प्रकाशः सर्वस्य योगमायासमावृतः। मूढोऽयं नाभिजानाति लोको मामजमव्ययम् ॥६-२९-२५॥
nāhaṃ prakāśaḥ sarvasya yogamāyāsamāvṛtaḥ। mūḍho'yaṃ nābhijānāti loko māmajamavyayam ॥6-29-25॥
[न (na) - not; अहम् (aham) - I; प्रकाशः (prakāśaḥ) - manifest; सर्वस्य (sarvasya) - to everyone; योगमाया (yogamāyā) - by Yogamaya; समावृतः (samāvṛtaḥ) - covered; मूढः (mūḍhaḥ) - deluded; अयम् (ayam) - this; न (na) - not; अभिजानाति (abhijānāti) - know; लोकः (lokaḥ) - people; माम् (mām) - me; अजम् (ajam) - unborn; अव्ययम् (avyayam) - immutable;]
(I am not manifest to everyone, being covered by Yogamaya. This deluded people do not know me, the unborn and immutable.)
I am not visible to everyone because I am covered by my divine Yogamaya. The deluded people do not recognize me as the unborn and imperishable.
वेदाहं समतीतानि वर्तमानानि चार्जुन। भविष्याणि च भूतानि मां तु वेद न कश्चन ॥६-२९-२६॥
vedāhaṃ samatītāni vartamānāni cārjuna। bhaviṣyāṇi ca bhūtāni māṃ tu veda na kaścana ॥6-29-26॥
[वेद (veda) - know; अहम् (aham) - I; समतीतानि (samatītāni) - past; वर्तमानानि (vartamānāni) - present; च (ca) - and; अर्जुन (arjuna) - Arjuna; भविष्याणि (bhaviṣyāṇi) - future; च (ca) - and; भूतानि (bhūtāni) - beings; माम् (mām) - me; तु (tu) - but; वेद (veda) - know; न (na) - not; कश्चन (kaścana) - anyone;]
(I know the past, present, and future beings, Arjuna, but no one knows me.)
I am aware of all beings in the past, present, and future, Arjuna, but no one truly understands me.
इच्छाद्वेषसमुत्थेन द्वंद्वमोहेन भारत। सर्वभूतानि संमोहं सर्गे यान्ति परन्तप ॥६-२९-२७॥
icchādveṣasamutthena dvandvamohena bhārata। sarvabhūtāni saṃmohaṃ sarge yānti parantapa ॥6-29-27॥
[इच्छा (icchā) - desire; द्वेष (dveṣa) - hatred; समुत्थेन (samutthena) - arisen from; द्वंद्व (dvandva) - duality; मोहेन (mohena) - delusion; भारत (bhārata) - O Bharata; सर्व (sarva) - all; भूतानि (bhūtāni) - beings; संमोहं (saṃmohaṃ) - complete delusion; सर्गे (sarge) - at the time of creation; यान्ति (yānti) - go; परन्तप (parantapa) - O conqueror of enemies;]
(Arisen from desire and hatred, through the delusion of duality, O Bharata, all beings go into complete delusion at the time of creation, O conqueror of enemies.)
O Bharata, due to the delusion arising from desire and hatred, all beings fall into complete confusion at the time of creation, O conqueror of enemies.
येषां त्वन्तगतं पापं जनानां पुण्यकर्मणाम्। ते द्वंद्वमोहनिर्मुक्ता भजन्ते मां दृढव्रताः ॥६-२९-२८॥
yeṣāṃ tvantagataṃ pāpaṃ janānāṃ puṇyakarmaṇām। te dvaṃdvamohanirmuktā bhajante māṃ dṛḍhavratāḥ ॥6-29-28॥
[येषां (yeṣāṃ) - whose; तु (tu) - but; अन्तगतं (antagataṃ) - completely eradicated; पापं (pāpaṃ) - sin; जनानां (janānāṃ) - of the people; पुण्यकर्मणाम् (puṇyakarmaṇām) - of the pious; ते (te) - they; द्वंद्व (dvaṃdva) - duality; मोह (moha) - delusion; निर्मुक्ता (nirmuktā) - freed from; भजन्ते (bhajante) - worship; मां (māṃ) - me; दृढव्रताः (dṛḍhavratāḥ) - with determination;]
(But those people whose sins have been completely eradicated, who are pious, they, freed from the delusion of duality, worship me with determination.)
Those who have completely eradicated their sins and are engaged in pious activities, being freed from the delusion of duality, worship me with firm determination.
जरामरणमोक्षाय मामाश्रित्य यतन्ति ये। ते ब्रह्म तद्विदुः कृत्स्नमध्यात्मं कर्म चाखिलम् ॥६-२९-२९॥
jarāmaraṇamokṣāya māmāśritya yatanti ye। te brahma tadviduḥ kṛtsnamadhyātmaṃ karma cākhilam ॥6-29-29॥
[जरामरणमोक्षाय (jarāmaraṇamokṣāya) - for liberation from old age and death; माम् (mām) - me; आश्रित्य (āśritya) - taking refuge; यतन्ति (yatanti) - strive; ये (ye) - who; ते (te) - they; ब्रह्म (brahma) - Brahman; तत् (tad) - that; विदुः (viduḥ) - know; कृत्स्नम् (kṛtsnam) - entire; अध्यात्मं (adhyātmaṃ) - spiritual knowledge; कर्म (karma) - action; च (ca) - and; अखिलम् (akhilam) - all;]
(For liberation from old age and death, those who take refuge in Me strive; they know Brahman, the entire spiritual knowledge and all actions.)
Those who strive for liberation from old age and death by taking refuge in Me, they come to know Brahman, the entirety of spiritual knowledge and all actions.
साधिभूताधिदैवं मां साधियज्ञं च ये विदुः। प्रयाणकालेऽपि च मां ते विदुर्युक्तचेतसः ॥६-२९-३०॥
sādhibhūtādhidaivaṃ māṃ sādhiyajñaṃ ca ye viduḥ। prayāṇakāle'pi ca māṃ te viduruktacetasaḥ ॥6-29-30॥
[साधिभूताधिदैवं (sādhibhūtādhidaivam) - with the governing principles of elements and deities; मां (mām) - me; साधियज्ञं (sādhiyajñam) - with sacrifices; च (ca) - and; ये (ye) - who; विदुः (viduḥ) - know; प्रयाणकाले (prayāṇakāle) - at the time of departure; अपि (api) - even; च (ca) - and; मां (mām) - me; ते (te) - they; विदुः (viduḥ) - know; युक्तचेतसः (yuktacetasaḥ) - steadfast-minded;]
(Those who know me with the governing principles of elements and deities, and with sacrifices, even at the time of departure, they know me with steadfast minds.)
Those who understand me as the essence of all elements, deities, and sacrifices, even at the time of death, they remain steadfast in their minds and truly know me.
