धर्मराजस्ततस्तूर्णमभिगम्य जनार्दनम्। भ्रातृभिः सहितः सर्वैः सर्वैश्चैव जनेश्वरैः ॥६-४६-२॥

Krishna, behold the mighty archer Bhishma, whose prowess is formidable, as he scorches my army with his arrows, akin to how a fire consumes a forest in the heat of summer.
कथमेनं महात्मानं शक्ष्यामः प्रतिवीक्षितुम्। लेलिह्यमानं सैन्यं मे हविष्मन्तमिवानलम् ॥६-४६-५॥

(How shall we be able to face this great soul, licking my army like fire rich in oblations?)
How can we confront this great soul, who is consuming my army like a fire fed with oblations?
एतं हि पुरुषव्याघ्रं धनुष्मन्तं महाबलम्। दृष्ट्वा विप्रद्रुतं सैन्यं मदीयं मार्गणाहतम् ॥६-४६-६॥
etaṃ hi puruṣavyāghraṃ dhanuṣmantaṃ mahābalam। dṛṣṭvā vipradrutaṃ sainyaṃ madīyaṃ mārgaṇāhatam ॥6-46-6॥

शक्यो जेतुं यमः क्रुद्धो वज्रपाणिश्च संयुगे। वरुणः पाशभृच्चापि कुबेरो वा गदाधरः ॥६-४६-७॥

(It is possible to conquer Yama when angry, Vajrapani in battle, Varuna the noose-bearer, or even Kubera or Gadadhara.)

न तु भीष्मो महातेजाः शक्यो जेतुं महाबलः। सोऽहमेवं गते मग्नो भीष्मागाधजलेऽप्लवः ॥६-४६-८॥
na tu bhīṣmo mahātejāḥ śakyo jetuṃ mahābalaḥ। so'ham evaṃ gate magno bhīṣmāgādhajale'plavaḥ ॥6-46-8॥
[न (na) - not; तु (tu) - but; भीष्मः (bhīṣmaḥ) - Bhishma; महातेजाः (mahātejāḥ) - greatly powerful; शक्यः (śakyaḥ) - capable; जेतुम् (jetum) - to conquer; महाबलः (mahābalaḥ) - very strong; सः (saḥ) - he; अहम् (aham) - I; एवं (evaṃ) - thus; गते (gate) - in this situation; मग्नः (magnaḥ) - immersed; भीष्म (bhīṣma) - Bhishma; अगाधजले (agādhajale) - in the unfathomable water; अप्लवः (aplavaḥ) - without a boat;]
(But Bhishma, greatly powerful and very strong, cannot be conquered. Thus, I am immersed in this situation, like one without a boat in the unfathomable water of Bhishma.)
Bhishma, being immensely powerful, is invincible. In this situation, I find myself overwhelmed, like someone without a boat in the deep waters of Bhishma's prowess.
आत्मनो बुद्धिदौर्बल्याद्भीष्ममासाद्य केशव। वनं यास्यामि गोविन्द श्रेयो मे तत्र जीवितुम् ॥६-४६-९॥
ātmano buddhidaurbalyādbhīṣmamāsādya keśava। vanaṃ yāsyāmi govinda śreyo me tatra jīvitum ॥6-46-9॥

(Due to the weakness of my intellect, approaching Bhishma, O Keshava, I shall go to the forest, O Govinda, it is better for me to live there.)
O Keshava, due to the weakness of my intellect, having approached Bhishma, I have decided to go to the forest, O Govinda, as it is better for me to live there.
न त्विमान्पृथिवीपालान्दातुं भीष्माय मृत्यवे। क्षपयिष्यति सेनां मे कृष्ण भीष्मो महास्त्रवित् ॥६-४६-१०॥
na tvimān pṛthivīpālān dātuṃ bhīṣmāya mṛtyave। kṣapayiṣyati senāṃ me kṛṣṇa bhīṣmo mahāstravit ॥6-46-10॥
[न (na) - not; तू (tu) - but; इमान् (imān) - these; पृथिवीपालान् (pṛthivīpālān) - kings of the earth; दातुं (dātuṃ) - to give; भीष्माय (bhīṣmāya) - to Bhishma; मृत्यवे (mṛtyave) - to death; क्षपयिष्यति (kṣapayiṣyati) - will destroy; सेनां (senāṃ) - army; मे (me) - my; कृष्ण (kṛṣṇa) - O Krishna; भीष्मः (bhīṣmaḥ) - Bhishma; महास्त्रवित् (mahāstravit) - great archer;]
(But these kings of the earth will not give Bhishma to death; Bhishma, the great archer, will destroy my army, O Krishna.)
O Krishna, Bhishma, the great archer, will not allow these kings of the earth to die; instead, he will destroy my army.
यथानलं प्रज्वलितं पतङ्गाः समभिद्रुताः। विनाशायैव गच्छन्ति तथा मे सैनिको जनः ॥६-४६-११॥
yathānalaṃ prajvalitaṃ pataṅgāḥ samabhidrutāḥ। vināśāyaiva gacchanti tathā me sainiko janaḥ ॥6-46-11॥
[यथा (yathā) - just as; अनलम् (analam) - fire; प्रज्वलितम् (prajvalitam) - blazing; पतङ्गाः (pataṅgāḥ) - moths; समभिद्रुताः (samabhidrutāḥ) - rush towards; विनाशाय (vināśāya) - to destruction; एव (eva) - indeed; गच्छन्ति (gacchanti) - go; तथा (tathā) - so; मे (me) - my; सैनिकः (sainikaḥ) - soldiers; जनः (janaḥ) - people;]
(Just as moths rush towards a blazing fire to their destruction, so do my soldiers go.)

(I am led to destruction, O descendant of Vṛṣṇi, for the sake of the kingdom; and my brothers, the heroes, are indeed emaciated, afflicted by arrows.)
I have been brought to ruin, O Vārṣṇeya, for the sake of the kingdom; and my valiant brothers are worn out, tormented by arrows.
मत्कृते भ्रातृसौहार्दाद्राज्याद्भ्रष्टास्तथा सुखात्। जीवितं बहु मन्येऽहं जीवितं ह्यद्य दुर्लभम् ॥६-४६-१३॥
matkṛte bhrātṛsauhārdādrājyādbhraṣṭāstathā sukhāt। jīvitaṃ bahu manye'haṃ jīvitaṃ hyadya durlabham ॥6-46-13॥

रथान्मे बहुसाहस्रान्दिव्यैरस्त्रैर्महाबलः। घातयत्यनिशं भीष्मः प्रवराणां प्रहारिणाम् ॥६-४६-१५॥
rathānme bahusāhasrāndivyairastrairmahābalaḥ। ghātayatyaniśaṃ bhīṣmaḥ pravarāṇāṃ prahāriṇām ॥6-46-15॥
[रथान् (rathān) - chariots; मे (me) - my; बहुसाहस्रान् (bahusāhasrān) - many thousands; दिव्यैः (divyaiḥ) - divine; अस्त्रैः (astraiḥ) - weapons; महाबलः (mahābalaḥ) - greatly powerful; घातयति (ghātayati) - kills; अनिशम् (aniśam) - constantly; भीष्मः (bhīṣmaḥ) - Bhishma; प्रवराणाम् (pravarāṇām) - of the best; प्रहारिणाम् (prahāriṇām) - of the attackers;]
(Bhishma, the greatly powerful, constantly kills my many thousands of chariots with divine weapons, of the best attackers.)
Bhishma, with his immense power, continuously destroys my numerous chariots using divine weapons, being the foremost among attackers.
किं नु कृत्वा कृतं मे स्याद्ब्रूहि माधव माचिरम्। मध्यस्थमिव पश्यामि समरे सव्यसाचिनम् ॥६-४६-१६॥

एको भीमः परं शक्त्या युध्यत्येष महाभुजः। केवलं बाहुवीर्येण क्षत्रधर्ममनुस्मरन् ॥६-४६-१७॥

नालमेष क्षयं कर्तुं परसैन्यस्य मारिष। आर्जवेनैव युद्धेन वीर वर्षशतैरपि ॥६-४६-१९॥

कृष्ण भीष्मः सुसंरब्धः सहितः सर्वपार्थिवैः। क्षपयिष्यति नो नूनं यादृशोऽस्य पराक्रमः ॥६-४६-२२॥
kṛṣṇa bhīṣmaḥ susaṁrabdhaḥ sahitaḥ sarvapārthivaiḥ। kṣapayiṣyati no nūnaṁ yādṛśo'sya parākramaḥ ॥6-46-22॥

स त्वं पश्य महेष्वासं योगीष्वर महारथम्। यो भीष्मं शमयेत्सङ्ख्ये दावाग्निं जलदो यथा ॥६-४६-२३॥
sa tvaṃ paśya maheṣvāsaṃ yogīṣvara mahāratham। yo bhīṣmaṃ śamayetsaṅkhye dāvāgniṃ jalado yathā ॥6-46-23॥

(He, you see, the great archer, lord of yogis, great chariot-warrior, who can calm Bhishma in battle like a cloud calms a forest fire.)
Behold him, the great archer and lord of yogis, a mighty chariot-warrior, who can pacify Bhishma in battle just as a cloud extinguishes a forest fire.
तव प्रसादाद्गोविन्द पाण्डवा निहतद्विषः। स्वराज्यमनुसम्प्राप्ता मोदिष्यन्ति सबान्धवाः ॥६-४६-२४॥
tava prasādādgovinda pāṇḍavā nihatadviṣaḥ। svarājyamanusamprāptā modiṣyanti sabāndhavāḥ ॥6-46-24॥
[तव (tava) - by your; प्रसादात् (prasādāt) - grace; गोविन्द (govinda) - O Govinda; पाण्डवाः (pāṇḍavāḥ) - the Pandavas; निहतद्विषः (nihatadviṣaḥ) - having slain enemies; स्वराज्यम् (svarājyam) - own kingdom; अनुसम्प्राप्ताः (anusamprāptāḥ) - having attained; मोदिष्यन्ति (modiṣyanti) - will rejoice; स-बान्धवाः (sa-bāndhavāḥ) - with relatives;]
(By your grace, O Govinda, the Pandavas, having slain their enemies and attained their own kingdom, will rejoice with their relatives.)
Thanks to your grace, O Govinda, the Pandavas have defeated their enemies and will enjoy their kingdom with their relatives.
एवमुक्त्वा ततः पार्थो ध्यायन्नास्ते महामनाः। चिरमन्तर्मना भूत्वा शोकोपहतचेतनः ॥६-४६-२५॥
evamuktvā tataḥ pārtho dhyāyannāste mahāmanāḥ। ciramantarmanā bhūtvā śokopahatacetanaḥ ॥6-46-25॥

(Thus having spoken, then Arjuna, the great-minded, sits meditating, having become introspective for a long time, with consciousness overcome by grief.)
After speaking thus, Arjuna, the son of Pritha, sat down to meditate. He was deeply introspective, his mind overwhelmed by sorrow, and remained in this state for a long time.
शोकार्तं पाण्डवं ज्ञात्वा दुःखेन हतचेतसम्। अब्रवीत्तत्र गोविन्दो हर्षयन्सर्वपाण्डवान् ॥६-४६-२६॥
śokārtaṃ pāṇḍavaṃ jñātvā duḥkhena hatacetasam। abravīttatra govindo harṣayansarvapāṇḍavān ॥6-46-26॥
[शोकार्तं (śokārtam) - afflicted by sorrow; पाण्डवं (pāṇḍavam) - Pāṇḍava; ज्ञात्वा (jñātvā) - knowing; दुःखेन (duḥkhena) - with grief; हतचेतसम् (hatacetasam) - distressed in mind; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; तत्र (tatra) - there; गोविन्दः (govindaḥ) - Govinda; हर्षयन् (harṣayan) - cheering; सर्वपाण्डवान् (sarvapāṇḍavān) - all the Pāṇḍavas;]
(Knowing the Pāṇḍava afflicted by sorrow and distressed in mind with grief, Govinda said there, cheering all the Pāṇḍavas.)
Seeing the Pāṇḍava in sorrow and distress, Govinda spoke to cheer all the Pāṇḍavas.
मा शुचो भरतश्रेष्ठ न त्वं शोचितुमर्हसि। यस्य ते भ्रातरः शूराः सर्वलोकस्य धन्विनः ॥६-४६-२७॥
mā śuco bharataśreṣṭha na tvaṃ śocitumarhasi। yasya te bhrātaraḥ śūrāḥ sarvalokasya dhanvinaḥ ॥6-46-27॥
[मा (mā) - do not; शुचः (śucaḥ) - grieve; भरतश्रेष्ठ (bharataśreṣṭha) - O best of the Bharatas; न (na) - not; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; शोचितुम् (śocitum) - to grieve; अर्हसि (arhasi) - ought; यस्य (yasya) - whose; ते (te) - your; भ्रातरः (bhrātaraḥ) - brothers; शूराः (śūrāḥ) - heroes; सर्वलोकस्य (sarvalokasya) - of all the worlds; धन्विनः (dhanvinaḥ) - archers;]
(Do not grieve, O best of the Bharatas, you ought not to grieve. Your brothers, who are heroes and archers of all the worlds.)
Do not worry, O best of the Bharatas, you should not lament. Your brothers are valiant and skilled archers known throughout all the worlds.
अहं च प्रियकृद्राजन्सात्यकिश्च महारथः। विराटद्रुपदौ वृद्धौ धृष्टद्युम्नश्च पार्षतः ॥६-४६-२८॥

तथैव सबलाः सर्वे राजानो राजसत्तम। त्वत्प्रसादं प्रतीक्षन्ते त्वद्भक्ताश्च विशां पते ॥६-४६-२९॥
tathaiva sabalāḥ sarve rājāno rājasattama। tvatprasādaṃ pratīkṣante tvadbhaktāśca viśāṃ pate ॥6-46-29॥
[तथैव (tathaiva) - in the same way; सबलाः (sabalāḥ) - with strength; सर्वे (sarve) - all; राजानः (rājānaḥ) - kings; राजसत्तम (rājasattama) - O best of kings; त्वत्-प्रसादम् (tvat-prasādam) - your favor; प्रतीक्षन्ते (pratīkṣante) - are waiting; त्वत्-भक्ताः (tvad-bhaktāḥ) - your devotees; च (ca) - and; विशाम् (viśām) - of the people; पते (pate) - O lord;]
(In the same way, all the kings with strength, O best of kings, are waiting for your favor, and your devotees, O lord of the people.)
Similarly, all the powerful kings and your devotees, O best of kings and lord of the people, await your favor.
एष ते पार्षतो नित्यं हितकामः प्रिये रतः। सेनापत्यमनुप्राप्तो धृष्टद्युम्नो महाबलः ॥ शिखण्डी च महाबाहो भीष्मस्य निधनं किल ॥६-४६-३०॥
eṣa te pārṣato nityaṃ hitakāmaḥ priye rataḥ। senāpatyamanuprāpto dhṛṣṭadyumno mahābalaḥ ॥ śikhaṇḍī ca mahābāho bhīṣmasya nidhanaṃ kila ॥6-46-30॥

(This son of Prishata, always desiring your welfare, dear one, is engaged. Dhrishtadyumna, the mighty one, has obtained generalship. Shikhandi, O mighty-armed, is indeed the death of Bhishma.)
This son of Prishata, Dhrishtadyumna, who always desires your welfare and is dear to you, has obtained the position of general. Shikhandi, O mighty-armed one, is indeed destined to bring about the death of Bhishma.
एतच्छ्रुत्वा ततो राजा धृष्टद्युम्नं महारथम्। अब्रवीत्समितौ तस्यां वासुदेवस्य शृण्वतः ॥६-४६-३१॥
etacchrutvā tato rājā dhṛṣṭadyumnaṃ mahāratham। abravītsamitau tasyāṃ vāsudevasya śṛṇvataḥ ॥6-46-31॥
[एतत् (etat) - this; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; ततः (tataḥ) - then; राजा (rājā) - king; धृष्टद्युम्नं (dhṛṣṭadyumnam) - Dhṛṣṭadyumna; महारथम् (mahāratham) - great chariot-warrior; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; समितौ (samitau) - in the assembly; तस्याम् (tasyām) - in that; वासुदेवस्य (vāsudevasya) - of Vāsudeva; शृण्वतः (śṛṇvataḥ) - listening;]
(Having heard this, then King Dhṛṣṭadyumna, the great chariot-warrior, said in the assembly, in the presence of Vāsudeva, who was listening.)
Upon hearing this, King Dhṛṣṭadyumna, the great warrior, addressed the assembly while Vāsudeva was listening.
धृष्टद्युम्न निबोधेदं यत्त्वा वक्ष्यामि मारिष। नातिक्रम्यं भवेत्तच्च वचनं मम भाषितम् ॥६-४६-३२॥
dhṛṣṭadyumna nibodhedaṃ yattvā vakṣyāmi māriṣa। nātikramyaṃ bhavettacca vacanaṃ mama bhāṣitam ॥6-46-32॥
[धृष्टद्युम्न (dhṛṣṭadyumna) - Dhṛṣṭadyumna; निबोध (nibodha) - hear; इदं (idaṃ) - this; यत् (yat) - which; त्वा (tvā) - to you; वक्ष्यामि (vakṣyāmi) - I will speak; मारिष (māriṣa) - O gentle one; न (na) - not; अतिक्रम्यं (atikramyaṃ) - to be transgressed; भवेत् (bhavet) - should be; तत् (tat) - that; वचनं (vacanaṃ) - word; मम (mama) - my; भाषितम् (bhāṣitam) - spoken;]
(Dhṛṣṭadyumna, hear this which I will speak to you, O gentle one. That word of mine spoken should not be transgressed.)
O Dhṛṣṭadyumna, listen to what I am about to tell you, dear one. My words should not be disregarded.
भवान्सेनापतिर्मह्यं वासुदेवेन संमतः। कार्त्तिकेयो यथा नित्यं देवानामभवत्पुरा ॥ तथा त्वमपि पाण्डूनां सेनानीः पुरुषर्षभ ॥६-४६-३३॥
bhavānsenāpatirmahyaṃ vāsudevena saṃmataḥ। kārttikeyo yathā nityaṃ devānāmabhavatpurā ॥ tathā tvamapi pāṇḍūnāṃ senānīḥ puruṣarṣabha ॥6-46-33॥
[भवान् (bhavān) - you; सेनापतिः (senāpatiḥ) - commander; मह्यम् (mahyaṃ) - to me; वासुदेवेन (vāsudevena) - by Vāsudeva; संमतः (saṃmataḥ) - approved; कार्त्तिकेयः (kārttikeyaḥ) - Kārttikeya; यथा (yathā) - as; नित्यम् (nityam) - always; देवानाम् (devānām) - of the gods; अभवत् (abhavat) - was; पुरा (purā) - in ancient times; तथा (tathā) - so; त्वम् (tvam) - you; अपि (api) - also; पाण्डूनाम् (pāṇḍūnām) - of the Pāṇḍavas; सेनानीः (senānīḥ) - commander; पुरुषर्षभ (puruṣarṣabha) - O best of men;]
(You are the commander approved by Vāsudeva for me, just as Kārttikeya was always the commander of the gods in ancient times. So you also are the commander of the Pāṇḍavas, O best of men.)
You are appointed as the commander by Vāsudeva for me, just as Kārttikeya was the eternal commander of the gods in ancient times. Similarly, you are the commander of the Pāṇḍavas, O best among men.
स त्वं पुरुषशार्दूल विक्रम्य जहि कौरवान्। अहं च त्वानुयास्यामि भीमः कृष्णश्च मारिष ॥६-४६-३४॥
sa tvaṁ puruṣaśārdūla vikramya jahi kauravān। ahaṁ ca tvānuyāsyāmi bhīmaḥ kṛṣṇaśca māriṣa ॥6-46-34॥
[स (sa) - he; त्वं (tvaṁ) - you; पुरुषशार्दूल (puruṣaśārdūla) - tiger among men; विक्रम्य (vikramya) - having conquered; जहि (jahi) - slay; कौरवान् (kauravān) - the Kauravas; अहं (ahaṁ) - I; च (ca) - and; त्वा (tvā) - you; अनुयास्यामि (anuyāsyāmi) - will follow; भीमः (bhīmaḥ) - Bhima; कृष्णः (kṛṣṇaḥ) - Krishna; च (ca) - and; मारिष (māriṣa) - O lord;]
(He, you, tiger among men, having conquered, slay the Kauravas. I and Bhima and Krishna will follow you, O lord.)
You, O tiger among men, go forth and defeat the Kauravas. I, along with Bhima and Krishna, will follow you, O lord.
माद्रीपुत्रौ च सहितौ द्रौपदेयाश्च दंशिताः। ये चान्ये पृथिवीपालाः प्रधानाः पुरुषर्षभ ॥६-४६-३५॥
mādrīputrau ca sahitau draupadeyāśca daṃśitāḥ। ye cānye pṛthivīpālāḥ pradhānāḥ puruṣarṣabha ॥6-46-35॥
[माद्रीपुत्रौ (mādrīputrau) - sons of Madri; च (ca) - and; सहितौ (sahitau) - together; द्रौपदेयाः (draupadeyāḥ) - sons of Draupadi; च (ca) - and; दंशिताः (daṃśitāḥ) - pierced; ये (ye) - who; च (ca) - and; अन्ये (anye) - other; पृथिवीपालाः (pṛthivīpālāḥ) - kings of the earth; प्रधानाः (pradhānāḥ) - chief; पुरुषर्षभ (puruṣarṣabha) - O best of men;]
(The sons of Madri and the sons of Draupadi, together, were pierced. And other chief kings of the earth, O best of men.)
The sons of Madri and Draupadi, along with other prominent kings of the earth, were struck down, O best of men.
तत उद्धर्षयन्सर्वान्धृष्टद्युम्नोऽभ्यभाषत। अहं द्रोणान्तकः पार्थ विहितः शम्भुना पुरा ॥६-४६-३६॥
tata uddharṣayansarvāndhṛṣṭadyumno'bhyabhāṣata। ahaṃ droṇāntakaḥ pārtha vihitaḥ śambhunā purā ॥6-46-36॥
[तत् (tat) - then; उद्धर्षयन् (uddharṣayan) - encouraging; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; धृष्टद्युम्नः (dhṛṣṭadyumnaḥ) - Dhrishtadyumna; अभ्यभाषत (abhyabhāṣata) - spoke; अहम् (aham) - I; द्रोण-अन्तकः (droṇa-antakaḥ) - Drona's end; पार्थ (pārtha) - O son of Pritha; विहितः (vihitaḥ) - appointed; शम्भुना (śambhunā) - by Shambhu; पुरा (purā) - formerly;]
(Then, encouraging all, Dhrishtadyumna spoke: "I am appointed as Drona's end, O son of Pritha, by Shambhu formerly.")
Then, Dhrishtadyumna, encouraging everyone, said: "I was appointed by Lord Shiva in the past to bring an end to Drona, O Arjuna."
रणे भीष्मं तथा द्रोणं कृपं शल्यं जयद्रथम्। सर्वानद्य रणे दृप्तान्प्रतियोत्स्यामि पार्थिव ॥६-४६-३७॥
raṇe bhīṣmaṃ tathā droṇaṃ kṛpaṃ śalyaṃ jayadratham। sarvānadya raṇe dṛptānpratiyotsyāmi pārthiva ॥6-46-37॥

(In battle, Bhishma, and Drona, Kripa, Shalya, Jayadratha, all today in battle, proud, I will fight, O king.)
O king, today I will fight against Bhishma, Drona, Kripa, Shalya, and Jayadratha, all of whom are proud in battle.
अथोत्क्रुष्टं महेष्वासैः पाण्डवैर्युद्धदुर्मदैः। समुद्यते पार्थिवेन्द्रे पार्षते शत्रुसूदने ॥६-४६-३८॥
athotkruṣṭaṃ maheṣvāsaiḥ pāṇḍavairyuddhadurmadaiḥ। samudyate pārthivendre pārṣate śatrusūdane ॥6-46-38॥
[अथ (atha) - then; उत्क्रुष्टं (utkruṣṭaṃ) - shouted; महेष्वासैः (maheṣvāsaiḥ) - by great archers; पाण्डवैः (pāṇḍavaiḥ) - by the Pandavas; युद्धदुर्मदैः (yuddhadurmadaiḥ) - intoxicated with battle; समुद्यते (samudyate) - prepared; पार्थिवेन्द्रे (pārthivendre) - the king; पार्षते (pārṣate) - the son of Prishata; शत्रुसूदने (śatrusūdane) - the destroyer of enemies;]
(Then shouted by great archers, the Pandavas, intoxicated with battle, prepared the king, the son of Prishata, the destroyer of enemies.)
Then, the great archers, the Pandavas, intoxicated with the fervor of battle, prepared themselves along with the king, the son of Prishata, who is the destroyer of enemies.
तमब्रवीत्ततः पार्थः पार्षतं पृतनापतिम्। व्यूहः क्रौञ्चारुणो नाम सर्वशत्रुनिबर्हणः ॥६-४६-३९॥
tamabravīttataḥ pārthaḥ pārṣataṃ pṛtanāpatim। vyūhaḥ krauñcāruṇo nāma sarvaśatrunibarhaṇaḥ ॥6-46-39॥

(Then Arjuna said to the son of Prishata, the commander of the army: "The formation named Krauncha and Aruna is the destroyer of all enemies.")
Arjuna then addressed the son of Prishata, the commander of the army, saying that the formation called Krauncha and Aruna is capable of destroying all enemies.
यं बृहस्पतिरिन्द्राय तदा देवासुरेऽब्रवीत्। तं यथावत्प्रतिव्यूह परानीकविनाशनम् ॥ अदृष्टपूर्वं राजानः पश्यन्तु कुरुभिः सह ॥६-४६-४०॥
yaṁ bṛhaspatir indrāya tadā devāsure 'bravīt। taṁ yathāvat prativyūha parānīka-vināśanam ॥ adṛṣṭapūrvaṁ rājānaḥ paśyantu kurubhiḥ saha ॥6-46-40॥

(Whom Bṛhaspati then said to Indra in the battle of gods and demons, arrange that properly for the destruction of the enemy's army. May the kings see, together with the Kauravas, something never seen before.)
Bṛhaspati advised Indra during the battle of gods and demons to strategically arrange for the destruction of the enemy's army. Let the kings witness, along with the Kauravas, something unprecedented.
तथोक्तः स नृदेवेन विष्णुर्वज्रभृता इव। प्रभाते सर्वसैन्यानामग्रे चक्रे धनञ्जयम् ॥६-४६-४१॥
tathoktaḥ sa nṛdevena viṣṇurvajrabhṛtā iva। prabhāte sarvasainyānāmagre cakre dhanañjayam ॥6-46-41॥
