Pancharatra and Core: Karna takes blessings from Bhishma and goes to the battle field where he is welcomed with various sounds of whistling, clapping, lion's roars, and bows.
sañjaya uvāca॥
Sanjaya said:
tasya lālapyataḥ śrutvā vṛddhaḥ kurupitāmahaḥ। deśakālocitaṃ vākyamabravītpṛtamanasaḥ ॥7-4-1॥
Upon hearing his lamentation, the venerable Kuru patriarch, with a content heart, spoke words that were fitting for the time and situation.
samudra iva sindhūnāṃ jyotiṣāmiva bhāskaraḥ। satyasya ca yathā santo bījānāmiva corvarā ॥7-4-2॥
Just as the ocean is to rivers, the sun is to lights, and saints are to truth, so is fertile land to seeds.
parjanya iva bhūtānāṃ pratiṣṭhā suhṛdāṃ bhava। bāndhavāstvānujīvantu sahasrākṣamivāmarāḥ ॥7-4-3॥
Be the support for all beings like the rain is, and may your relatives thrive like the immortals with Indra.
svabāhubalavīryeṇa dhārtarāṣṭrapriyaiṣiṇā। karṇa rājapuraṃ gatvā kāmbojā nihatāstvayā ॥7-4-4॥
With your own strength and valor, as a supporter of Dhritarashtra, you went to the city and defeated the Kambojas.
girivrajagatāścāpi nagnajitpramukhā nṛpāḥ। ambaṣṭhāśca videhāśca gāndhārāśca jitāstvayā ॥7-4-5॥
You have conquered the kings of Girivraja, including Nagnajit, as well as the Ambashthas, Videhas, and Gandharas.
himavaddurganilayāḥ kirātā raṇakarkaśāḥ। duryodhanasya vaśagāḥ kṛtāḥ karṇa tvayā purā ॥7-4-6॥
The hunters who lived in the fortresses of the Himalayas, known for their harshness in battle, were once brought under Duryodhana's control by you, Karna.
tatra tatra ca saṅgrāme duryodhanahitaiṣiṇā। bahavaśca jitā vīrāstvayā karṇa mahaujasā ॥7-4-7॥
In various battles, for the sake of Duryodhana, you, Karna, with immense energy, have defeated many heroes.
yathā duryodhanastāta sajñātikulabāndhavaḥ। tathā tvamapi sarveṣāṃ kauravāṇāṃ gatirbhava ॥7-4-8॥
Just as Duryodhana is the relative of the family, O father, you too should be the refuge for all the Kauravas.
śivenābhivadāmi tvāṃ gaccha yudhyasva śatrubhiḥ। anuśādhi kurūnsaṅkhye dhatsva duryodhane jayam ॥7-4-9॥
"With auspiciousness, I greet you. Go and fight the enemies. Guide the Kurus in battle and secure victory for Duryodhana."
bhavān pautrasamo'smākaṃ yathā duryodhanastathā। tavāpi dharmataḥ sarve yathā tasya vayaṃ tathā ॥7-4-10॥
You are like a grandson to us, just as Duryodhana is. By duty, we all regard you as we do him.
yōnātsaṁbandhakāllōkē viśiṣṭaṁ saṅgataṁ satām. sadbhiḥ saha naraśrēṣṭha pravadanti manīṣiṇaḥ ॥7-4-11॥
O best of men, the wise say that in the world, the distinguished association of the virtuous with the good originates from the source and connection.
sa satyasaṅgaro bhūtvā mamedamiti niścitam। kurūṇāṃ pālaya balaṃ yathā duryodhanastathā ॥7-4-12॥
He, having become true to his word and determined that 'this is mine', should protect the strength of the Kurus just as Duryodhana does.
iti śrutvā vacaḥ so'tha caraṇāvabhivādya ca। yayau vaikartanaḥ karṇastūrṇamāyodhanaṃ prati ॥7-4-13॥
Upon hearing these words, Vaikartana Karṇa respectfully saluted the feet and swiftly proceeded to the battlefield.
so'bhivīkṣya naraughāṇāṃ sthānamapratimaṃ mahat। vyūḍhaprahraṇoraskaṃ sainyaṃ tatsamabṛṃhayat ॥7-4-14॥
He observed the great and unmatched position of the multitude of men and strengthened that army, arrayed with weapons and chest.
karṇaṁ dṛṣṭvā maheṣvāsaṁ yuddhāya samavasthitam। kṣveḍitāsphoṭitaravaiḥ siṁhanādaravairapi ॥ dhanuḥśabdaiśca vividhaiḥ kuravaḥ samapūjayan ॥7-4-15॥
Upon seeing Karna, the great archer, prepared for battle, the Kauravas honored him with various sounds of whistling, clapping, lion's roars, and bows.
