ततस्तीर्थवरं रामो ययौ बदरपाचनम्। तपस्विसिद्धचरितं यत्र कन्या धृतव्रता ॥९-४७-१॥
tatastīrthavaraṃ rāmo yayau badarapācanam। tapasvisiddhacaritaṃ yatra kanyā dhṛtavratā ॥9-47-1॥

Priyamvada, who was knowledgeable of the rules and auspicious, said: "O revered sage, what do you wish to command, O lord?"
सर्वमद्य यथाशक्ति तव दास्यामि सुव्रत। शक्रभक्त्या तु ते पाणिं न दास्यामि कथञ्चन ॥९-४७-९॥
sarvam adya yathāśakti tava dāsyāmi suvrata। śakrabhaktyā tu te pāṇiṁ na dāsyāmi kathañcana ॥9-47-9॥
[सर्वम् (sarvam) - everything; अद्य (adya) - today; यथा (yathā) - as; शक्ति (śakti) - ability; तव (tava) - your; दास्यामि (dāsyāmi) - I will give; सुव्रत (suvrata) - O virtuous one; शक्र (śakra) - Indra; भक्त्या (bhaktyā) - with devotion; तु (tu) - but; ते (te) - to you; पाणिम् (pāṇim) - hand; न (na) - not; दास्यामि (dāsyāmi) - I will give; कथञ्चन (kathañcana) - in any way;]
(Today, I will give you everything according to my ability, O virtuous one. But with devotion to Indra, I will not give you my hand in any way.)
Today, I will offer you everything I can, O virtuous one. However, due to my devotion to Indra, I cannot give you my hand in marriage.
व्रतैश्च नियमैश्चैव तपसा च तपोधन। शक्रस्तोषयितव्यो वै मया त्रिभुवनेश्वरः ॥९-४७-१०॥
vrataiśca niyamaiścaiva tapasā ca tapodhana। śakrastoṣayitavyo vai mayā tribhuvaneśvaraḥ ॥9-47-10॥

(By vows and disciplines, and indeed by penance, O sage rich in penance, Indra must indeed be pleased by me, the lord of the three worlds.)
"O sage rich in penance, I must please Indra, the lord of the three worlds, through vows, disciplines, and penance."
इत्युक्तो भगवान्देवः स्मयन्निव निरीक्ष्य ताम्। उवाच नियमज्ञां तां सान्त्वयन्निव भारत ॥९-४७-११॥
ityukto bhagavāndevaḥ smayanniva nirīkṣya tām। uvāca niyamajñāṃ tāṃ sāntvayanniva bhārata ॥9-47-11॥

(Thus spoken, the Lord god, smiling as if, having looked at her, said to her, the knower of rules, as if consoling, O Bhārata.)

उग्रं तपश्चरसि वै विदिता मेऽसि सुव्रते। यदर्थमयमारम्भस्तव कल्याणि हृद्गतः ॥९-४७-१२॥
ugraṁ tapaścarasi vai viditā me'si suvrate। yadarthamayamārambhastava kalyāṇi hṛdgataḥ ॥9-47-12॥
[उग्रम् (ugram) - intense; तपः (tapaḥ) - austerity; चरसि (carasi) - you perform; वै (vai) - indeed; विदिता (viditā) - known; मे (me) - to me; असि (asi) - you are; सुव्रते (suvrate) - O virtuous one; यदर्थम् (yadartham) - for which purpose; अयम् (ayam) - this; आरम्भः (ārambhaḥ) - beginning; तव (tava) - your; कल्याणि (kalyāṇi) - O auspicious one; हृत् (hṛt) - heart; गतः (gataḥ) - gone;]
(You indeed perform intense austerity, you are known to me, O virtuous one. The purpose for which this beginning of yours has gone to the heart, O auspicious one.)
You are indeed performing intense austerities, and you are known to me, O virtuous lady. The purpose for which you have begun this endeavor is dear to your heart, O auspicious one.
तच्च सर्वं यथाभूतं भविष्यति वरानने। तपसा लभ्यते सर्वं सर्वं तपसि तिष्ठति ॥९-४७-१३॥
tacca sarvaṁ yathābhūtaṁ bhaviṣyati varānane। tapasā labhyate sarvaṁ sarvaṁ tapasi tiṣṭhati ॥9-47-13॥
[तत् (tat) - that; च (ca) - and; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; यथा (yathā) - as; अभूतम् (abhūtam) - has been; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - will be; वरानने (varānane) - O beautiful-faced one; तपसा (tapasā) - by penance; लभ्यते (labhyate) - is obtained; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; तपसि (tapasi) - in penance; तिष्ठति (tiṣṭhati) - abides;]
(And that all, as it has been, will be, O beautiful-faced one. All is obtained by penance, all abides in penance.)
O beautiful-faced one, everything that has been will be as it is. All things are obtained through penance, and everything resides in penance.
यानि स्थानानि दिव्यानि विबुधानां शुभानने। तपसा तानि प्राप्यानि तपोमूलं महत्सुखम् ॥९-४७-१४॥
yāni sthānāni divyāni vibudhānāṃ śubhānane। tapasā tāni prāpyāni tapomūlaṃ mahatsukham ॥9-47-14॥
[यानि (yāni) - which; स्थानानि (sthānāni) - places; दिव्यानि (divyāni) - divine; विबुधानां (vibudhānāṃ) - of the wise; शुभानने (śubhānane) - O auspicious-faced one; तपसा (tapasā) - by penance; तानि (tāni) - those; प्राप्यानि (prāpyāni) - are attained; तपोमूलं (tapomūlaṃ) - rooted in penance; महत्सुखम् (mahatsukham) - great happiness;]
(The places which are divine and belong to the wise, O auspicious-faced one, are attained by penance; great happiness is rooted in penance.)

इह कृत्वा तपो घोरं देहं संन्यस्य मानवाः। देवत्वं यान्ति कल्याणि शृणु चेदं वचो मम ॥९-४७-१५॥
iha kṛtvā tapo ghoraṃ dehaṃ saṃnyasya mānavāḥ। devatvaṃ yānti kalyāṇi śṛṇu cedaṃ vaco mama ॥9-47-15॥

(Here, having performed severe penance and renouncing the body, humans attain divinity. O auspicious one, listen to these my words.)

(Cook these berries, O fortunate and virtuous one. Having said thus, the Lord, destroyer of Bala, went.)

आमन्त्र्य तां तु कल्याणीं ततो जप्यं जजाप सः। अविदूरे ततस्तस्मादाश्रमात्तीर्थ उत्तमे ॥ इन्द्रतीर्थे महाराज त्रिषु लोकेषु विश्रुते ॥९-४७-१७॥
āmantrya tāṃ tu kalyāṇīṃ tato japyaṃ jajāpa saḥ। avidūre tatastasmādāśramāttīrtha uttame ॥ indratīrthe mahārāja triṣu lokeṣu viśrute ॥9-47-17॥

(Then he, prepared, O king, speechless and free from fatigue, devoted, pure, and clothed, entered the fire. O tiger among kings, she of great vow cooked the berries.)

(Her cooking took a very long time, O best of men. And indeed, those were not cooked, and the day came to an end.)

(This best of pilgrimage sites will be stable in the world. O beautiful one, known by the name Badarapachana, it is the remover of all sins, famous in the three worlds, and immersed by the Brahmarshis.)

(Then the revered one said again to Arundhati, "O auspicious one, choose the boon that is desired in your heart.")
Then the revered one spoke again to Arundhati, "O blessed one, choose the boon that your heart desires."
साब्रवीत्पृथुताम्राक्षी देवं सप्तर्षिसंसदि। भगवान्यदि मे प्रीतस्तीर्थं स्यादिदमुत्तमम् ॥ सिद्धदेवर्षिदयितं नाम्ना बदरपाचनम् ॥९-४७-४४॥
sābravīt pṛthutāmrākṣī devaṃ saptarṣisaṃsadi। bhagavān yadi me prītas tīrthaṃ syād idam uttamam ॥ siddhadevarṣidayitaṃ nāmnā badarapācanam ॥9-47-44॥

(She, with broad copper-red eyes, said to the god in the assembly of the seven sages: "O Lord, if you are pleased with me, may this place become an excellent holy site, beloved of the perfected divine sages, by the name of Badarapachana.")
In the assembly of the seven sages, she, with her broad copper-red eyes, addressed the god: "O Lord, if you are pleased with me, let this place be known as the excellent holy site, cherished by the perfected divine sages, and called Badarapachana."
तथास्मिन्देवदेवेश त्रिरात्रमुषितः शुचिः। प्राप्नुयादुपवासेन फलं द्वादशवार्षिकम् ॥ एवमस्त्विति तां चोक्त्वा हरो यातस्तदा दिवम् ॥९-४७-४५॥
tathāsmin devadeveśa trirātram uṣitaḥ śuciḥ। prāpnuyād upavāsena phalaṃ dvādaśavārṣikam॥ evam astv iti tāṃ coktvā haro yātaḥ tadā divam॥9-47-45॥
[तथा (tathā) - thus; अस्मिन् (asmin) - in this; देवदेवेश (devadeveśa) - O lord of lords; त्रिरात्रम् (trirātram) - for three nights; उषितः (uṣitaḥ) - having stayed; शुचिः (śuciḥ) - pure; प्राप्नुयात् (prāpnuyāt) - may obtain; उपवासेन (upavāsena) - by fasting; फलं (phalam) - fruit; द्वादशवार्षिकम् (dvādaśavārṣikam) - twelve years; एवम् (evam) - thus; अस्तु (astu) - so be it; इति (iti) - thus; ताम् (tām) - her; च (ca) - and; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having said; हरः (haraḥ) - Shiva; यातः (yātaḥ) - went; तदा (tadā) - then; दिवम् (divam) - to heaven;]
(Thus, O lord of lords, having stayed pure for three nights, one may obtain the fruit of twelve years by fasting. Having said thus, "So be it," Shiva then went to heaven.)
Thus, O lord of lords, by staying pure for three nights and fasting, one can achieve the merit equivalent to twelve years. Having said "So be it," Shiva ascended to heaven.
ऋषयो विस्मयं जग्मुस्तां दृष्ट्वा चाप्यरुन्धतीम्। अश्रान्तां चाविवर्णां च क्षुत्पिपासासहां सतीम् ॥९-४७-४६॥
ṛṣayo vismayaṃ jagmustāṃ dṛṣṭvā cāpyarundhatīm। aśrāntāṃ cāvivarṇāṃ ca kṣutpipāsāsahāṃ satīm ॥9-47-46॥
[ऋषयः (ṛṣayaḥ) - sages; विस्मयम् (vismayam) - amazement; जग्मुः (jagmuḥ) - went; ताम् (tām) - her; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; अरुन्धतीम् (arundhatīm) - Arundhati; अश्रान्ताम् (aśrāntām) - untiring; च (ca) - and; अविवर्णाम् (avivarṇām) - unfaded; च (ca) - and; क्षुत्पिपासासहाम् (kṣutpipāsāsahām) - enduring hunger and thirst; सतीम् (satīm) - being;]
(The sages went into amazement, having seen Arundhati, who was untiring, unfaded, and enduring hunger and thirst.)
The sages were amazed when they saw Arundhati, who remained untiring, unfaded, and capable of enduring hunger and thirst.
एवं सिद्धिः परा प्राप्ता अरुन्धत्या विशुद्धया। यथा त्वया महाभागे मदर्थं संशितव्रते ॥९-४७-४७॥
evaṁ siddhiḥ parā prāptā arundhatyā viśuddhayā। yathā tvayā mahābhāge madarthaṁ saṁśitavrate ॥9-47-47॥
[एवं (evaṁ) - thus; सिद्धिः (siddhiḥ) - perfection; परा (parā) - supreme; प्राप्ता (prāptā) - attained; अरुन्धत्या (arundhatyā) - by Arundhati; विशुद्धया (viśuddhayā) - by purity; यथा (yathā) - as; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; महाभागे (mahābhāge) - O greatly fortunate one; मदर्थं (madarthaṁ) - for my sake; संशितव्रते (saṁśitavrate) - O resolute in vows;]
(Thus, supreme perfection was attained by Arundhati through purity, as by you, O greatly fortunate one, for my sake, O resolute in vows.)
In this way, Arundhati achieved supreme perfection through her purity, just as you have, O greatly fortunate one, for my sake, being resolute in your vows.
विशेषो हि त्वया भद्रे व्रते ह्यस्मिन्समर्पितः। तथा चेदं ददाम्यद्य नियमेन सुतोषितः ॥९-४७-४८॥
viśeṣo hi tvayā bhadre vrate hyasmin samarpitaḥ। tathā cedaṃ dadāmy adya niyamena sutoṣitaḥ ॥9-47-48॥
[विशेषः (viśeṣaḥ) - special; हि (hi) - indeed; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; भद्रे (bhadre) - O auspicious one; व्रते (vrate) - in the vow; हि (hi) - indeed; अस्मिन (asmin) - in this; समर्पितः (samarpitaḥ) - dedicated; तथा (tathā) - thus; च (ca) - and; इदम् (idam) - this; ददामि (dadāmi) - I give; अद्य (adya) - today; नियमेन (niyamena) - with discipline; सुतोषितः (sutoṣitaḥ) - well-pleased;]
(Indeed, a special dedication has been made by you, O auspicious one, in this vow. Thus, I give this today with discipline, being well-pleased.)
"O auspicious one, you have indeed made a special dedication in this vow. Therefore, being well-pleased, I give this today with discipline."
विशेषं तव कल्याणि प्रयच्छामि वरं वरे। अरुन्धत्या वरस्तस्या यो दत्तो वै महात्मना ॥९-४७-४९॥
viśeṣaṃ tava kalyāṇi prayacchāmi varaṃ vare। arundhatyā varastasyā yo datto vai mahātmanā ॥9-47-49॥

(I grant you a special boon, O auspicious one. The boon which was given to her by Arundhati, indeed by the great soul.)

तस्य चाहं प्रसादेन तव कल्याणि तेजसा। प्रवक्ष्याम्यपरं भूयो वरमत्र यथाविधि ॥९-४७-५०॥
tasya cāhaṃ prasādena tava kalyāṇi tejasā। pravakṣyāmyaparaṃ bhūyo varamatra yathāvidhi ॥9-47-50॥
[तस्य (tasya) - his; च (ca) - and; अहम् (aham) - I; प्रसादेन (prasādena) - by grace; तव (tava) - your; कल्याणि (kalyāṇi) - auspicious one; तेजसा (tejasā) - by brilliance; प्रवक्ष्यामि (pravakṣyāmi) - I shall speak; अपरम् (aparam) - another; भूयः (bhūyaḥ) - again; वरम् (varam) - boon; अत्र (atra) - here; यथाविधि (yathāvidhi) - as per rule;]
(By his grace and your brilliance, O auspicious one, I shall speak another boon here again as per rule.)

यस्त्वेकां रजनीं तीर्थे वत्स्यते सुसमाहितः। स स्नात्वा प्राप्स्यते लोकान्देहन्यासाच्च दुर्लभान् ॥९-४७-५१॥
yastvekāṃ rajanīṃ tīrthe vatsyate susamāhitaḥ। sa snātvā prāpsyate lokāndeha-nyāsācca durlabhān ॥9-47-51॥
[यः (yaḥ) - who; तु (tu) - indeed; एकाम् (ekām) - one; रजनीम् (rajanīm) - night; तीर्थे (tīrthe) - in a sacred place; वत्स्यते (vatsyate) - will stay; सुसमाहितः (susamāhitaḥ) - with full concentration; सः (saḥ) - he; स्नात्वा (snātvā) - having bathed; प्राप्स्यते (prāpsyate) - will attain; लोकान् (lokān) - worlds; देह (deha) - body; न्यासात् (nyāsāt) - by leaving; च (ca) - and; दुर्लभान् (durlabhān) - difficult to obtain;]
(Who indeed stays one night in a sacred place with full concentration, having bathed, he will attain worlds difficult to obtain by leaving the body.)
"Whoever stays for one night in a sacred place with full concentration, after bathing, will attain worlds that are difficult to obtain even by leaving the body."
इत्युक्त्वा भगवान्देवः सहस्राक्षः प्रतापवान्। स्रुचावतीं ततः पुण्यां जगाम त्रिदिवं पुनः ॥९-४७-५२॥
ityuktvā bhagavāndevaḥ sahasrākṣaḥ pratāpavān। srucāvatīṃ tataḥ puṇyāṃ jagāma tridivaṃ punaḥ ॥9-47-52॥
[इति (iti) - thus; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having spoken; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the blessed one; देवः (devaḥ) - god; सहस्राक्षः (sahasrākṣaḥ) - thousand-eyed; प्रतापवान् (pratāpavān) - mighty; स्रुचावतीं (srucāvatīṃ) - to Srucāvatī; ततः (tataḥ) - then; पुण्यां (puṇyāṃ) - sacred; जगाम (jagāma) - went; त्रिदिवं (tridivaṃ) - to heaven; पुनः (punaḥ) - again;]
(Thus having spoken, the blessed god, the thousand-eyed and mighty one, went to the sacred Srucāvatī, then again to heaven.)
Having spoken thus, the mighty thousand-eyed god returned to the sacred Srucāvatī and then ascended once more to heaven.
गते वज्रधरे राजंस्तत्र वर्षं पपात ह। पुष्पाणां भरतश्रेष्ठ दिव्यानां दिव्यगन्धिनाम् ॥९-४७-५३॥
gate vajradhare rājanstatra varṣaṃ papāta ha। puṣpāṇāṃ bharataśreṣṭha divyānāṃ divyagandhinām ॥9-47-53॥
[गते (gate) - having gone; वज्रधरे (vajradhare) - Vajradhara; राजन् (rājan) - O king; तत्र (tatra) - there; वर्षम् (varṣam) - rain; पपात (papāta) - fell; ह (ha) - indeed; पुष्पाणाम् (puṣpāṇām) - of flowers; भरतश्रेष्ठ (bharataśreṣṭha) - O best of the Bharatas; दिव्यानाम् (divyānām) - divine; दिव्यगन्धिनाम् (divyagandhinām) - with divine fragrance;]
(Having gone, Vajradhara, O king, there indeed fell a rain of flowers, O best of the Bharatas, divine with divine fragrance.)
When Vajradhara departed, O king, there was a shower of divine flowers with a heavenly fragrance, O best of the Bharatas.
नेदुर्दुन्दुभयश्चापि समन्तात्सुमहास्वनाः। मारुतश्च ववौ युक्त्या पुण्यगन्धो विशां पते ॥९-४७-५४॥
nedur dundubhayaś cāpi samantāt sumahāsvanāḥ। mārutaś ca vavau yuktyā puṇyagandho viśāṃ pate ॥9-47-54॥
[नेदुः (neduḥ) - sounded; दुन्दुभयः (dundubhayaḥ) - drums; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; समन्तात् (samantāt) - all around; सुमहास्वनाः (sumahāsvanāḥ) - very loud; मारुतः (mārutaḥ) - wind; च (ca) - and; ववौ (vavau) - blew; युक्त्या (yuktyā) - appropriately; पुण्यगन्धः (puṇyagandhaḥ) - fragrant; विशाम् (viśām) - of the people; पते (pate) - O lord;]
(The drums sounded all around with very loud noise, and the wind blew appropriately with a fragrant scent, O lord of the people.)
The drums resounded loudly in all directions, and the wind blew gently carrying a sweet fragrance, O lord of the people.
उत्सृज्य तु शुभं देहं जगामेन्द्रस्य भार्यताम्। तपसोग्रेण सा लब्ध्वा तेन रेमे सहाच्युत ॥९-४७-५५॥
utsṛjya tu śubhaṃ dehaṃ jagāmendrasya bhāryatām। tapasogreṇa sā labdhvā tena reme sahācyuta ॥9-47-55॥
[उत्सृज्य (utsṛjya) - having abandoned; तु (tu) - but; शुभं (śubham) - auspicious; देहं (deham) - body; जगाम (jagāma) - went; इन्द्रस्य (indrasya) - of Indra; भार्यताम् (bhāryatām) - to the state of being a wife; तपसोग्रेण (tapasogreṇa) - by severe penance; सा (sā) - she; लब्ध्वा (labdhvā) - having obtained; तेन (tena) - with him; रेमे (reme) - enjoyed; सह (saha) - together; अच्युत (acyuta) - Acyuta (another name for Vishnu);]
(Having abandoned the auspicious body, she went to the state of being the wife of Indra. Having obtained that by severe penance, she enjoyed together with Acyuta.)
After leaving her auspicious body, she became the wife of Indra. Through her intense penance, she gained that status and enjoyed life with Acyuta (Vishnu).

(Who is her divine mother, where was the beautiful one grown? I wish to hear, O Brahman, for my curiosity is indeed great.)
I am eager to know, O Brahman, who her divine mother is and where the beautiful one was raised, for my curiosity is indeed immense.
वैशम्पायन उवाच॥

bhāradvājasya viprarṣeḥ skannaṃ reto mahātmanaḥ। dṛṣṭvāpsarasamāyāntīṃ ghṛtācīṃ pṛthulocanām ॥9-47-57॥
[भारद्वाजस्य (bhāradvājasya) - of Bharadvaja; विप्रर्षेः (viprarṣeḥ) - of the sage; स्कन्नं (skannam) - fallen; रेतः (retaḥ) - semen; महात्मनः (mahātmanaḥ) - of the great soul; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; अप्सरसमायान्तीं (apsarasamāyāntīm) - the apsara coming; घृताचीं (ghṛtācīm) - Ghritachi; पृथुलोचनाम् (pṛthulocanām) - large-eyed;]
(Seeing the apsara Ghritachi with large eyes coming, the semen of the great sage Bharadvaja fell.)
Upon seeing the large-eyed apsara Ghritachi approaching, the great sage Bharadvaja's semen was discharged.
स तु जग्राह तद्रेतः करेण जपतां वरः। तदावपत्पर्णपुटे तत्र सा सम्भवच्छुभा ॥९-४७-५८॥
sa tu jagrāha tadretaḥ kareṇa japatāṃ varaḥ। tadāvapatparṇapuṭe tatra sā sambhavacchubhā ॥9-47-58॥
[स (sa) - he; तु (tu) - but; जग्राह (jagrāha) - took; तत् (tat) - that; रेतः (retaḥ) - semen; करेण (kareṇa) - with hand; जपतां (japatāṃ) - of the chanters; वरः (varaḥ) - the best; तदा (tadā) - then; अवपत् (avapat) - dropped; पर्णपुटे (parṇapuṭe) - in the leaf cup; तत्र (tatra) - there; सा (sā) - she; सम्भवत् (sambhavat) - was born; शुभा (śubhā) - auspicious; ॥९-४७-५८॥ (॥9-47-58॥) - (verse number);]
(He, the best of the chanters, took that semen with his hand. Then he dropped it in the leaf cup, and there she was born auspicious.)

तस्यास्तु जातकर्मादि कृत्वा सर्वं तपोधनः। नाम चास्याः स कृतवान्भारद्वाजो महामुनिः ॥९-४७-५९॥
tasyāstu jātakarmādi kṛtvā sarvaṃ tapodhanaḥ। nāma cāsyāḥ sa kṛtavānbhāradvājo mahāmuniḥ ॥9-47-59॥
[तस्याः (tasyāḥ) - her; तु (tu) - indeed; जातकर्म (jātakarma) - birth ceremony; आदि (ādi) - and so on; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having performed; सर्वं (sarvaṃ) - all; तपोधनः (tapodhanaḥ) - the sage; नाम (nāma) - name; च (ca) - and; अस्याः (asyāḥ) - her; स (sa) - he; कृतवान् (kṛtavān) - made; भारद्वाजः (bhāradvājaḥ) - Bharadvaja; महामुनिः (mahāmuniḥ) - the great sage;]
(Indeed, having performed her birth ceremony and so on, the sage made all. Bharadvaja, the great sage, gave her a name.)
The great sage Bharadvaja performed all the birth ceremonies and other rituals for her and gave her a name.
स्रुचावतीति धर्मात्मा तदर्षिगणसंसदि। स च तामाश्रमे न्यस्य जगाम हिमवद्वनम् ॥९-४७-६०॥
srucāvatīti dharmātmā tadarṣigaṇasaṁsadi। sa ca tāmāśrame nyasya jagāma himavadvanam ॥9-47-60॥
[स्रुचावती (srucāvati) - Srucavati; इति (iti) - thus; धर्मात्मा (dharmātmā) - the virtuous one; तत् (tat) - that; ऋषिगण (ṛṣigaṇa) - of sages; संसदि (saṁsadi) - in the assembly; स (sa) - he; च (ca) - and; ताम् (tām) - that; आश्रम (āśrama) - hermitage; न्यस्य (nyasya) - having placed; जगाम (jagāma) - went; हिमवत् (himavat) - Himalayas; वनम् (vanam) - forest;]
(Srucavati, thus the virtuous one in the assembly of sages. And he, having placed that in the hermitage, went to the Himalayan forest.)
In the assembly of sages, the virtuous one named Srucavati was present. He then left that in the hermitage and proceeded to the forest of the Himalayas.
तत्राप्युपस्पृश्य महानुभावो; वसूनि दत्त्वा च महाद्विजेभ्यः। जगाम तीर्थं सुसमाहितात्मा; शक्रस्य वृष्णिप्रवरस्तदानीम् ॥९-४७-६१॥
tatrāpyupaspṛśya mahānubhāvo; vasūni dattvā ca mahādvijebhyaḥ। jagāma tīrthaṃ susamāhitātmā; śakrasya vṛṣṇipravarastadānīm ॥9-47-61॥
[तत्र (tatra) - there; अपि (api) - also; उपस्पृश्य (upaspṛśya) - having touched; महानुभावः (mahānubhāvaḥ) - great soul; वसूनि (vasūni) - wealth; दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; च (ca) - and; महाद्विजेभ्यः (mahādvijebhyaḥ) - to the great Brahmins; जगाम (jagāma) - went; तीर्थम् (tīrtham) - to the holy place; सुसमाहितात्मा (susamāhitātmā) - with concentrated mind; शक्रस्य (śakrasya) - of Indra; वृष्णिप्रवरः (vṛṣṇipravaraḥ) - the best of the Vrishnis; तदानीम् (tadānīm) - then;]
(There also, having touched, the great soul, having given wealth to the great Brahmins, went to the holy place with a concentrated mind, the best of the Vrishnis of Indra then.)
There, the great soul, after performing the rituals and giving wealth to the great Brahmins, went to the holy place with a focused mind. At that time, he was the best among the Vrishnis, favored by Indra.
