Pancharatra-Ext: Yudhishthira mourns Karna's loss and enquires about his fate.

कृतोदकास्ते सुहृदां सर्वेषां पाण्डुनन्दनाः। विदुरो धृतराष्ट्रश्च सर्वाश्च भरतस्त्रियः ॥१२-१-१॥
kṛtodakās te suhṛdāṃ sarveṣāṃ pāṇḍunandanāḥ। viduro dhṛtarāṣṭraś ca sarvāś ca bharatastriyaḥ ॥12-1-1॥
[कृतोदकाः (kṛtodakāḥ) - having performed water-rites; ते (te) - they; सुहृदां (suhṛdām) - of friends; सर्वेषां (sarveṣām) - of all; पाण्डुनन्दनाः (pāṇḍunandanāḥ) - descendants of Pāṇḍu; विदुरः (viduraḥ) - Vidura; धृतराष्ट्रः (dhṛtarāṣṭraḥ) - Dhṛtarāṣṭra; च (ca) - and; सर्वाः (sarvāḥ) - all; च (ca) - and; भरतस्त्रियः (bharatastriyaḥ) - women of the Bharata (family);]
(Having performed water-rites, they, the descendants of Pāṇḍu, for all friends; Vidura, Dhṛtarāṣṭra and all the women of the Bharata (family).)
After performing the water-rites for all their friends, the sons of Pāṇḍu, Vidura, Dhṛtarāṣṭra, and all the women of the Bharata family gathered.
तत्र ते सुमहात्मानो न्यवसन्कुरुनन्दनाः। शौचं निवर्तयिष्यन्तो मासमेकं बहिः पुरात् ॥१२-१-२॥
tatra te sumahātmāno nyavasankurunandanāḥ। śaucaṃ nivartayiṣyanto māsamekaṃ bahiḥ purāt ॥12-1-2॥
[तत्र (tatra) - there; ते (te) - they; सुमहात्मानः (sumahātmānaḥ) - very great-souled ones; न्यवसन् (nyavasan) - dwelt; कुरुनन्दनाः (kurunandanāḥ) - descendants of Kuru; शौचं (śaucaṃ) - purification; निवर्तयिष्यन्तः (nivartayiṣyantaḥ) - about to complete; मासम् (māsam) - month; एकम् (ekam) - one; बहिः (bahiḥ) - outside; पुरात् (purāt) - from the city;]
(There those very great-souled descendants of Kuru dwelt, about to complete the purification, for one month outside from the city.)
There, those noble Kuru princes stayed outside the city for a month to complete their purification.
कृतोदकं तु राजानं धर्मात्मानं युधिष्ठिरम्। अभिजग्मुर्महात्मानः सिद्धा ब्रह्मर्षिसत्तमाः ॥१२-१-३॥
kṛtodakaṃ tu rājānaṃ dharmātmānaṃ yudhiṣṭhiram। abhijagmurmahātmānaḥ siddhā brahmarṣisattamāḥ ॥12-1-3॥

(Having performed the water-rite, but the righteous-souled king Yudhishthira, the great-souled ones, the perfected beings, and the foremost of Brahmarshis approached.)
After the water-rite was performed, the great-souled Siddhas and the foremost Brahmarshis approached the righteous king Yudhishthira.
द्वैपायनो नारदश्च देवलश्च महानृषिः। देवस्थानश्च कण्वश्च तेषां शिष्याश्च सत्तमाः ॥१२-१-४॥
dvaipāyano nāradaś ca devalaś ca mahān ṛṣiḥ। devasthānaś ca kaṇvaś ca teṣāṃ śiṣyāś ca sattamāḥ॥12-1-4॥

Vyāsa, Nārada, Devala, the great sage, Devasthāna, Kaṇva, and their most excellent disciples.
अन्ये च वेदविद्वांसः कृतप्रज्ञा द्विजातयः। गृहस्थाः स्नातकाः सर्वे ददृशुः कुरुसत्तमम् ॥१२-१-५॥
anye ca vedavidvāṃsaḥ kṛtaprajñā dvijātayaḥ। gṛhasthāḥ snātakāḥ sarve dadṛśuḥ kurusattamam ॥12-1-5॥
[अन्ये (anye) - others; च (ca) - and; वेदविद्वांसः (vedavidvāṃsaḥ) - knowers of the Veda; कृतप्रज्ञाः (kṛtaprajñāḥ) - those whose wisdom is accomplished; द्विजातयः (dvijātayaḥ) - twice-borns; गृहस्थाः (gṛhasthāḥ) - householders; स्नातकाः (snātakāḥ) - those who have completed their studies; सर्वे (sarve) - all; ददृशुः (dadṛśuḥ) - saw; कुरुसत्तमम् (kurusattamam) - the best of the Kurus;]
(Others and knowers of the Veda, those whose wisdom is accomplished, twice-borns, householders, those who have completed their studies, all saw the best of the Kurus.)
All the others, including the Vedic scholars, the wise, the twice-borns, householders, and graduates, saw the best among the Kurus.
अभिगम्य महात्मानः पूजिताश्च यथाविधि। आसनेषु महार्हेषु विविशुस्ते महर्षयः ॥१२-१-६॥
abhigamya mahātmānaḥ pūjitāś ca yathāvidhi। āsaneṣu mahārheṣu viviśus te maharṣayaḥ ॥12-1-6॥
[अभिगम्य (abhigamya) - having approached; महात्मानः (mahātmānaḥ) - great-souled ones; पूजिताः (pūjitāḥ) - having been honored; च (ca) - and; यथाविधि (yathāvidhi) - according to the proper rule; आसनेषु (āsaneṣu) - on the seats; महार्हेषु (mahārheṣu) - most excellent; विविशुः (viviśuḥ) - entered; ते (te) - they; महर्षयः (maharṣayaḥ) - the great sages;]
(Having approached, the great-souled ones, having been honored according to the proper rule, entered the most excellent seats, those great sages.)
The great sages, having approached and been duly honored, took their seats of high honor.
प्रतिगृह्य ततः पूजां तत्कालसदृशीं तदा। पर्युपासन्यथान्यायं परिवार्य युधिष्ठिरम् ॥१२-१-७॥
pratigṛhya tataḥ pūjāṃ tatkālasadṛśīṃ tadā। paryupāsanyathānyāyaṃ parivārya yudhiṣṭhiram ॥12-1-7॥
[प्रतिगृह्य (pratigṛhya) - having received; ततः (tataḥ) - thereafter; पूजां (pūjām) - honor; तत्कालसदृशीं (tatkālasadṛśīm) - appropriate to that time; तदा (tadā) - then; पर्युपासन् (paryupāsan) - having worshipped around; यथान्यायं (yathā-nyāyam) - according to rule; परिवार्य (parivārya) - having surrounded; युधिष्ठिरम् (yudhiṣṭhiram) - Yudhishthira;]
(Having received then the honor appropriate to that time, then, having worshipped around according to rule, having surrounded Yudhishthira.)
Then, having received the honor appropriate for that time, they worshipped as per the proper rules and surrounded Yudhishthira.
पुण्ये भागीरथीतीरे शोकव्याकुलचेतसम्। आश्वासयन्तो राजानं विप्राः शतसहस्रशः ॥१२-१-८॥
puṇye bhāgīrathītīre śokavyākulacetasam। āśvāsayanto rājānaṃ viprāḥ śatasahasraśaḥ ॥12-1-8॥
[पुण्ये (puṇye) - in the holy; भागीरथीतीरे (bhāgīrathītīre) - on the bank of the Bhagirathi; शोकव्याकुलचेतसम् (śokavyākulacetasam) - whose minds were agitated by grief; आश्वासयन्तः (āśvāsayantaḥ) - consoling; राजानम् (rājānam) - the king; विप्राः (viprāḥ) - the Brāhmaṇas; शतसहस्रशः (śatasahasraśaḥ) - by hundreds of thousands;]
(In the holy place, on the bank of the Bhagirathi, whose minds were agitated by grief, the Brāhmaṇas by hundreds of thousands were consoling the king.)
On the sacred bank of the Bhagirathi, as the king's mind was overwhelmed with grief, hundreds of thousands of Brāhmaṇas consoled him.
नारदस्त्वब्रवीत्काले धर्मात्मानं युधिष्ठिरम्। विचार्य मुनिभिः सार्धं तत्कालसदृशं वचः ॥१२-१-९॥
nāradas tv abravīt kāle dharmātmānaṃ yudhiṣṭhiram। vicārya munibhiḥ sārdhaṃ tatkālasadṛśaṃ vacaḥ ॥12-1-9॥
[नारदः (nāradaḥ) - Nārada; (the sage Nārada;) तु (tu) - but; (however;) अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke; (said;) काले (kāle) - at the time; (in due time;) धर्मात्मानम् (dharmātmānam) - the righteous one; (the virtuous one;) युधिष्ठिरम् (yudhiṣṭhiram) - Yudhiṣṭhira; (King Yudhiṣṭhira;) विचार्य (vicārya) - having considered; (after deliberation;) मुनिभिः (munibhiḥ) - by the sages; (with sages;) सार्धम् (sārdham) - together with; (along with;) तत्कालसदृशम् (tatkālasadṛśam) - appropriate to that time; (suitable for the occasion;) वचः (vacaḥ) - speech; (words;]
(But Nārada, having considered together with the sages, spoke to the righteous Yudhiṣṭhira at the proper time words appropriate to that occasion.)
But Nārada, after deliberating with the sages, spoke to the virtuous Yudhiṣṭhira words suited to the moment.
भवतो बाहुवीर्येण प्रसादान्माधवस्य च। जितेयमवनिः कृत्स्ना धर्मेण च युधिष्ठिर ॥१२-१-१०॥
bhavato bāhuvīryeṇa prasādān mādhavasya ca। jiteyam avaniḥ kṛtsnā dharmeṇa ca yudhiṣṭhira ॥12-1-10॥
[भवतः (bhavataḥ) - of you; (plural, respectful); बाहु (bāhu) - arm; वीर्येण (vīryeṇa) - by strength; प्रसादात् (prasādāt) - by favor; माधवस्य (mādhavasya) - of Mādhava (Krishna); च (ca) - and; जिता (jitā) - conquered; इयम् (iyam) - this; अवनिः (avniḥ) - earth; कृत्स्ना (kṛtsnā) - entire; धर्मेण (dharmeṇa) - by righteousness; च (ca) - and; युधिष्ठिर (yudhiṣṭhira) - Yudhishthira;]
(By your arm's strength, by the favor of Mādhava, and by righteousness, O Yudhishthira, this entire earth has been conquered.)
O Yudhishthira, this entire earth has been conquered by your strength, by the favor of Mādhava, and by righteousness.
दिष्ट्या मुक्ताः स्थ सङ्ग्रामादस्माल्लोकभयङ्करात्। क्षत्रधर्मरतश्चापि कच्चिन्मोदसि पाण्डव ॥१२-१-११॥
diṣṭyā muktāḥ stha saṅgrāmādasmāllokabhayaṅkarāt। kṣatradharmarataścāpi kaccinmodasi pāṇḍava ॥12-1-11॥
[दिष्ट्या (diṣṭyā) - by fortune; by destiny; मुक्ताः (muktāḥ) - freed; released; स्थ (stha) - you are; (plural); सङ्ग्रामात् (saṅgrāmāt) - from battle; अस्मात् (asmāt) - from this; लोक (loka) - world; भयङ्करात् (bhayaṅkarāt) - from the terrible; from the frightening; क्षत्रधर्मरतः (kṣatradharmarataḥ) - delighting in the duty of a warrior; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; कच्चित् (kaccit) - whether; surely; मोदसि (modasi) - you rejoice; पाण्डव (pāṇḍava) - O Pāṇḍava;]
(By fortune you are freed from this battle, from this world-terrifying (event); and are you, delighting in the duty of a warrior, also rejoicing, O Pāṇḍava?)
By good fortune you have been freed from this battle, dreadful to the world; and, O Pāṇḍava, are you, who delight in the warrior's duty, also rejoicing?
कच्चिच्च निहतामित्रः प्रीणासि सुहृदो नृप। कच्चिच्छ्रियमिमां प्राप्य न त्वां शोकः प्रबाधते ॥१२-१-१२॥
kaccic ca nihatāmitraḥ prīṇāsi suhṛdo nṛpa। kaccic chriyam imāṃ prāpya na tvāṃ śokaḥ prabādhate ॥12-1-12॥
[कच्चित् (kaccit) - whether; च (ca) - and; निहत-अमित्रः (nihata-amitraḥ) - with enemies destroyed; प्रीणासि (prīṇāsi) - you please; सुहृदः (suhṛdaḥ) - friends; नृप (nṛpa) - O king; कच्चित् (kaccit) - whether; श्रियं (śriyam) - prosperity; इमाम् (imām) - this; प्राप्य (prāpya) - having obtained; न (na) - not; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; शोकः (śokaḥ) - grief; प्रबाधते (prabādhate) - afflicts;]
(Whether, with enemies destroyed, you please your friends, O king? Whether, having obtained this prosperity, grief does not afflict you?)
O king, do you, having destroyed your enemies, please your friends? And having attained this prosperity, does grief not afflict you?
युधिष्ठिर उवाच॥

विजितेयं मही कृत्स्ना कृष्णबाहुबलाश्रयात्। ब्राह्मणानां प्रसादेन भीमार्जुनबलेन च ॥१२-१-१३॥
vijiteyaṃ mahī kṛtsnā kṛṣṇabāhubalāśrayāt। brāhmaṇānāṃ prasādena bhīmārjunabalena ca ॥12-1-13॥
[विजिता (vijitā) - conquered; इयं (iyaṃ) - this; मही (mahī) - earth; कृत्स्ना (kṛtsnā) - entire; कृष्ण (kṛṣṇa) - Kṛṣṇa; बाहु (bāhu) - arm; बल (bala) - strength; आश्रयात् (āśrayāt) - by the support; ब्राह्मणानाम् (brāhmaṇānām) - of the Brāhmaṇas; प्रसादेन (prasādena) - by the grace; भीम (bhīma) - Bhīma; अर्जुन (arjuna) - Arjuna; बलेन (balena) - by the strength; च (ca) - and;]
(This entire earth has been conquered by the support of Kṛṣṇa's arm strength, by the grace of the Brāhmaṇas, and by the strength of Bhīma and Arjuna.)
This whole earth has been conquered through the might of Kṛṣṇa's arms, the favor of the Brāhmaṇas, and the strength of Bhīma and Arjuna.
इदं तु मे महद्दुःखं वर्तते हृदि नित्यदा। कृत्वा ज्ञातिक्षयमिमं महान्तं लोभकारितम् ॥१२-१-१४॥
idaṃ tu me mahadduḥkhaṃ vartate hṛdi nityadā। kṛtvā jñātikṣayam imaṃ mahāntaṃ lobhakāritam ॥12-1-14॥
[इदं (idaṃ) - this; तु (tu) - but; मे (me) - to me; महत्-दुःखं (mahat-duḥkhaṃ) - great sorrow; वर्तते (vartate) - exists; हृदि (hṛdi) - in (my) heart; नित्यदा (nityadā) - always; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having caused; ज्ञाति-क्षयम् (jñāti-kṣayam) - destruction of relatives; इमं (imaṃ) - this; महान्तं (mahāntam) - great; लोभ-कारितम् (lobha-kāritam) - caused by greed;]
(But this great sorrow always exists in my heart, having caused this great destruction of relatives, caused by greed.)
But this great sorrow always remains in my heart, for I have caused this great destruction of my relatives out of greed.
सौभद्रं द्रौपदेयांश्च घातयित्वा प्रियान्सुतान्। जयोऽयमजयाकारो भगवन्प्रतिभाति मे ॥१२-१-१५॥
saubhadraṃ draupadeyāṃś ca ghātayitvā priyān sutān। jayo' yam ajayākāro bhagavan pratibhāti me ॥12-1-15॥
[सौभद्रं (saubhadraṃ) - Abhimanyu; (son of Subhadra); द्रौपदेयान् (draupadeyān) - the sons of Draupadī; च (ca) - and; घातयित्वा (ghātayitvā) - having caused to be killed; प्रियान् (priyān) - dear; सुतान् (sutān) - sons; जयः (jayaḥ) - victory; अयम् (ayam) - this; अजयाकारः (ajayākāraḥ) - of the nature of defeat; भगवन् (bhagavan) - O Lord; प्रतिभाति (pratibhāti) - appears; मे (me) - to me;]
(Having caused Abhimanyu and the sons of Draupadī, my dear sons, to be killed, this victory, O Lord, appears to me of the nature of defeat.)
O Lord, having caused the death of Abhimanyu and the sons of Draupadī, my beloved sons, this victory now seems to me like defeat.
किं नु वक्ष्यति वार्ष्णेयी वधूर्मे मधुसूदनम्। द्वारकावासिनी कृष्णमितः प्रतिगतं हरिम् ॥१२-१-१६॥
kiṁ nu vakṣyati vārṣṇeyī vadhūr me madhusūdanam। dvārakāvāsinī kṛṣṇam itaḥ pratigataṁ harim ॥12-1-16॥
[किं (kiṁ) - what; नु (nu) - indeed; वक्ष्यति (vakṣyati) - will say; वार्ष्णेयी (vārṣṇeyī) - the descendant of Vṛṣṇi; वधूः (vadhūḥ) - bride; मे (me) - my; मधुसूदनम् (madhusūdanam) - Madhusūdana; द्वारकावासिनी (dvārakāvāsinī) - she who dwells in Dvārakā; कृष्णम् (kṛṣṇam) - Kṛṣṇa; इतः (itaḥ) - from here; प्रतिगतं (pratigatam) - returned; हरिम् (harim) - Hari;]
(What indeed will the bride, the descendant of Vṛṣṇi, say to my Madhusūdana? The lady dwelling in Dvārakā (will say) to Kṛṣṇa, Hari, who has returned from here.)
What will the bride of the Vṛṣṇi line say to my Madhusūdana? The lady of Dvārakā will speak to Kṛṣṇa, Hari, who has now returned.
द्रौपदी हतपुत्रेयं कृपणा हतबान्धवा। अस्मत्प्रियहिते युक्ता भूयः पीडयतीव माम् ॥१२-१-१७॥
draupadī hataputreyam kṛpaṇā hatabāndhavā। asmatpriyahite yuktā bhūyaḥ pīḍayatīva mām ॥12-1-17॥
[द्रौपदी (draupadī) - Draupadī; हत (hata) - slain; पुत्रा (putra) - sons; इयं (iyaṃ) - this; कृपणा (kṛpaṇā) - wretched; हत (hata) - slain; बान्धवा (bāndhavā) - kinsmen; अस्मत् (asmat) - our; प्रिय (priya) - dear; हिते (hite) - welfare; युक्ता (yuktā) - engaged; भूयः (bhūyaḥ) - again; पीडयतीव (pīḍayatīva) - seems to torment; माम् (mām) - me;]
(This Draupadī, whose sons are slain, wretched, whose kinsmen are slain, engaged in our dear welfare, again seems to torment me.)
Draupadī, bereft of her sons and kinsmen, wretched and devoted to our welfare, now seems to torment me once more.
इदमन्यच्च भगवन्यत्त्वां वक्ष्यामि नारद। मन्त्रसंवरणेनास्मि कुन्त्या दुःखेन योजितः ॥१२-१-१८॥
idam anyac ca bhagavan yat tvām vakṣyāmi nārada। mantra-saṁvaraṇena asmi kuntayā duḥkhena yojitaḥ ॥12-1-18॥
[इदम् (idam) - this; अन्यत् (anyat) - other; च (ca) - and; भगवन् (bhagavan) - O venerable one; यत् (yat) - which; त्वाम् (tvām) - to you; वक्ष्यामि (vakṣyāmi) - I will say; नारद (nārada) - Nārada; मन्त्रसंवरणेन (mantra-saṁvaraṇena) - by the concealment of the mantra; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; कुन्त्या (kuntayā) - by Kuntī; दुःखेन (duḥkhena) - by sorrow; योजितः (yojitaḥ) - joined;]
(This other (thing), O venerable one, which I will say to you, Nārada: by the concealment of the mantra, I am joined by Kuntī with sorrow.)
O Nārada, I will tell you another thing: because the mantra was concealed, I have been joined by Kuntī in sorrow.
योऽसौ नागायुतबलो लोकेऽप्रतिरथो रणे। सिंहखेलगतिर्धीमान्घृणी दान्तो यतव्रतः ॥१२-१-१९॥
yo'sau nāgāyutabalo loke'pratiratho raṇe. siṃhakhelagatirdhīmānghṛṇī dānto yatavrataḥ ॥12-1-19॥
[यः (yaḥ) - who; असौ (asau) - that; नागायुतबलः (nāgāyutabalaḥ) - having the strength of ten thousand elephants; लोके (loke) - in the world; अप्रतिरथः (apratirathaḥ) - without an equal chariot-warrior; रणे (raṇe) - in battle; सिंहखेलगतिः (siṃhakhelagatiḥ) - having the gait of a lion at play; धीमान् (dhīmān) - wise; घृणी (ghṛṇī) - compassionate; दान्तः (dāntaḥ) - self-controlled; यतव्रतः (yatavrataḥ) - firm in vows;]
(Who is that one, having the strength of ten thousand elephants, in the world, without an equal chariot-warrior in battle, having the gait of a lion at play, wise, compassionate, self-controlled, firm in vows?)
Who is he, that one in the world, possessing the strength of ten thousand elephants, unmatched in battle, moving with the playful gait of a lion, wise, compassionate, self-controlled, and steadfast in his vows?
आश्रयो धार्तराष्ट्राणां मानी तीक्ष्णपराक्रमः। अमर्षी नित्यसंरम्भी क्षेप्तास्माकं रणे रणे ॥१२-१-२०॥
āśrayo dhārtarāṣṭrāṇāṃ mānī tīkṣṇaparākramaḥ। amarṣī nityasaṃrambhī kṣeptāsmākaṃ raṇe raṇe ॥12-1-20॥
[आश्रयः (āśrayaḥ) - refuge; support; धार्तराष्ट्राणाम् (dhārtarāṣṭrāṇām) - of the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra; मानी (mānī) - proud; arrogant; तीक्ष्णपराक्रमः (tīkṣṇaparākramaḥ) - of sharp prowess; very powerful; अमर्षी (amarṣī) - intolerant; impatient; नित्यसंरम्भी (nityasaṃrambhī) - ever wrathful; always angry; क्षेप्ता (kṣeptā) - one who hurls; attacker; अस्माकम् (asmākam) - of us; our; रणे रणे (raṇe raṇe) - in every battle; in battle after battle;]
(Refuge of the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, proud, of sharp prowess, intolerant, ever wrathful, attacker of us in every battle.)

गता किल पृथा तस्य सकाशमिति नः श्रुतम्। अस्माकं शमकामा वै त्वं च पुत्रो ममेत्यथ ॥१२-१-२६॥

पृथाया न कृतः कामस्तेन चापि महात्मना। अतिपश्चादिदं मातर्यवोचदिति नः श्रुतम् ॥१२-१-२७॥

न हि शक्ष्याम्यहं त्यक्तुं नृपं दुर्योधनं रणे। अनार्यं च नृशंसं च कृतघ्नं च हि मे भवेत् ॥१२-१-२८॥

(Indeed, O mother, you will certainly have five sons; either with Karṇa, if Pārtha (Arjuna) is slain, or with Arjuna, if I am slain.)

(Desiring a son, the mother again said to him: "May you do well-being for those brothers for whom you wish to do well-being.")

(Having thus spoken to him, Pṛthā, having dismissed (him), went to the houses. He, the hero, the brother born of the same womb, was slain by Arjuna, by his brother.)
After saying this to him, Pṛthā dismissed him and went to her chambers. He, the heroic brother born of the same mother, was slain by Arjuna, his own brother.
न चैव विवृतो मन्त्रः पृथायास्तस्य वा मुने। अथ शूरो महेष्वासः पार्थेनासौ निपातितः ॥१२-१-३६॥

(I indeed came to know afterwards, O best of Brāhmaṇas, that Karṇa, the elder brother, was my own uterine brother, from the words of Kuntī, O lord.)

(When indeed I hear his harsh words, bitter-arising, in the assembly, speaking in the game (of dice), seeking Duryodhana's benefit.)
Whenever I hear his harsh and bitter words in the assembly, spoken during the game of dice, seeking Duryodhana's advantage.
तदा नश्यति मे क्रोधः पादौ तस्य निरीक्ष्य ह। कुन्त्या हि सदृशौ पादौ कर्णस्येति मतिर्मम ॥१२-१-४१॥
tadā naśyati me krodhaḥ pādau tasya nirīkṣya ha। kuntyā hi sadṛśau pādau karṇasyeti matirmama ॥12-1-41॥

(Then my anger is destroyed, having seen his feet indeed; by Kunti indeed, similar are the feet of Karṇa—thus is my thought.)
Then my anger vanishes when I see his feet; for the feet of Karṇa are indeed like Kunti's—this is my thought.
सादृश्यहेतुमन्विच्छन्पृथायास्तव चैव ह। कारणं नाधिगच्छामि कथञ्चिदपि चिन्तयन् ॥१२-१-४२॥
sādṛśya-hetum anvicchan pṛthāyās tava ca eva ha। kāraṇam na adhigacchāmi kathaṃcit api cintayan ॥12-1-42॥

(Seeking the cause of similarity of Pṛthā and yours indeed, I do not find the reason in any way, even while thinking.)
While seeking the cause of the resemblance between Pṛthā and yourself, I am unable to find any reason at all, no matter how much I ponder.
कथं नु तस्य सङ्ग्रामे पृथिवी चक्रमग्रसत्। कथं च शप्तो भ्राता मे तत्त्वं वक्तुमिहार्हसि ॥१२-१-४३॥
kathaṁ nu tasya saṅgrāme pṛthivī cakram agrasat। kathaṁ ca śapto bhrātā me tattvaṁ vaktum iha arhasi ॥12-1-43॥

(I wish to hear, O revered one, from you, all (things), as they are. For you, indeed, are the all-knower, the wise one in the world, who knows what is done and not done.)
O revered one, I wish to hear everything from you exactly as it is. For you are the all-knowing, the wise one in the world, who knows what has been done and what has not.
