satstrīṇāṃ samudācāraṃ sarvadharmabhṛtāṃ vara। śrotum icchāmi ahaṃ tvattaḥ tam me brūhi pitāmaha ॥13-124-1॥

केन वृत्तेन कल्याणि समाचारेण केन वा। विधूय सर्वपापानि देवलोकं त्वमागता ॥१३-१२४-३॥
kena vṛttena kalyāṇi samācāreṇa kena vā। vidhūya sarvapāpāni devalokaṃ tvamāgatā ॥13-124-3॥

हुताशनशिखेव त्वं ज्वलमाना स्वतेजसा। सुता ताराधिपस्येव प्रभया दिवमागता ॥१३-१२४-४॥
hutāśana-śikheva tvaṃ jvalamānā sva-tejasā। sutā tārādhipasyaiva prabhayā divam āgatā ॥13-124-4॥

You, shining with your own brilliance like a flame of fire, have come to heaven radiant, like the daughter of the moon. (13-124-4)
अरजांसि च वस्त्राणि धारयन्ती गतक्लमा। विमानस्था शुभे भासि सहस्रगुणमोजसा ॥१३-१२४-५॥
arajāṃsi ca vastrāṇi dhārayantī gataklamā। vimānasthā śubhe bhāsi sahasraguṇamojasā ॥13-124-5॥

न त्वमल्पेन तपसा दानेन नियमेन वा। इमं लोकमनुप्राप्ता तस्मात्तत्त्वं वदस्व मे ॥१३-१२४-६॥
na tvam alpena tapasā dānena niyamena vā। imaṃ lokam anuprāptā tasmāt tattvaṃ vadasva me ॥13-124-6॥

You have not attained this world by little austerity, charity, or discipline; therefore, speak the truth to me. (13-124-6)
इति पृष्टा सुमनया मधुरं चारुहासिनी। शाण्डिली निभृतं वाक्यं सुमनामिदमब्रवीत् ॥१३-१२४-७॥
iti pṛṣṭā sumanayā madhuraṃ cāruhāsinī। śāṇḍilī nibhṛtaṃ vākyaṃ sumanāmidamabravīt ॥13-124-7॥

नाहं काषायवसना नापि वल्कलधारिणी। न च मुण्डा न जटिला भूत्वा देवत्वमागता ॥१३-१२४-८॥
nāhaṃ kāṣāyavasanā nāpi valkaladhāriṇī। na ca muṇḍā na jaṭilā bhūtvā devatvamāgatā ॥13-124-8॥

I am not one who wears ochre robes, nor one clad in bark; nor am I shaven-headed, nor with matted hair—having become such, I have not attained divinity. (13-124-8)
अहितानि च वाक्यानि सर्वाणि परुषाणि च। अप्रमत्ता च भर्तारं कदाचिन्नाहमब्रुवम् ॥१३-१२४-९॥
ahitāni ca vākyāni sarvāṇi paruṣāṇi ca. apramattā ca bhartāraṃ kadācinnāham abruvam ॥13-124-9॥
[अहितानि (ahitāni) - unwholesome; undesirable; harmful; च (ca) - and; वाक्यानि (vākyāni) - statements; words; speeches; सर्वाणि (sarvāṇi) - all; परुषाणि (paruṣāṇi) - harsh; rough; च (ca) - and; अप्रमत्ता (apramattā) - unremiss; attentive; careful (feminine); च (ca) - and; भर्तारं (bhartāram) - husband; lord; कदाचित् (kadācit) - at any time; ever; न (na) - not; अहम् (aham) - I; अब्रुवम् (abruvam) - spoke; uttered (imperfect first person singular);]
(Unwholesome and all words, harsh and,—being attentive and—husband, at any time not I spoke.)
I, being attentive, never spoke any unwholesome or harsh words to my husband. (13-124-9)
देवतानां पितॄणां च ब्राह्मणानां च पूजने। अप्रमत्ता सदायुक्ता श्वश्रूश्वशुरवर्तिनी ॥१३-१२४-१०॥
devatānāṃ pitṝṇāṃ ca brāhmaṇānāṃ ca pūjane. apramattā sadāyuktā śvaśrūśvaśuravartinī ॥13-124-10॥

One who is not heedless, always engaged in the worship of deities, ancestors, and brāhmaṇas, and serves her mother-in-law and father-in-law. (13-124-10)
पैशुन्ये न प्रवर्तामि न ममैतन्मनोगतम्। अद्वारे न च तिष्ठामि चिरं न कथयामि च ॥१३-१२४-११॥
paiśunye na pravartāmi na mamaitanmanogatam। advāre na ca tiṣṭhāmi ciraṃ na kathayāmi ca ॥13-124-11॥
[पैशुन्ये (paiśunye) - in tale-bearing; न (na) - not; प्रवर्तामि (pravartāmi) - I engage; न (na) - not; मम (mama) - my; एतत् (etat) - this; मनोगतम् (manogatam) - gone to (in) the mind; अद्वारे (advāre) - at the wrong place; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; तिष्ठामि (tiṣṭhāmi) - I stay; चिरम् (ciram) - for a long time; न (na) - not; कथयामि (kathayāmi) - I speak; च (ca) - and;]
(In tale-bearing not I engage, not in my this mind gone; at the wrong place not and I stay, for a long time not I speak and.)
I do not engage in tale-bearing, neither does such thought occur in my mind; I do not stay at improper places, nor do I speak for a long time. (13-124-11)
असद्वा हसितं किञ्चिदहितं वापि कर्मणा। रहस्यमरहस्यं वा न प्रवर्तामि सर्वथा ॥१३-१२४-१२॥
asadvā hasitaṃ kiñcidahitaṃ vāpi karmaṇā। rahasyamarahasyaṃ vā na pravartāmi sarvathā॥13-124-12॥
[असद्वा (asad vā) - untrue or; हसितं (hasitam) - laughter; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - a little; अहितं (ahitam) - unwholesome; वा अपि (vā api) - or even; कर्मणा (karmaṇā) - by action; रहस्यम् (rahasyam) - a secret; अरहस्यम् (arahasyam) - not secret; वा (vā) - or; न (na) - not; प्रवर्तामि (pravartāmi) - I engage; सर्वथा (sarvathā) - at all;]
(Untrue or laughter, a little unwholesome or even by action; secret or not secret or, not I engage at all.)
I never engage in untruthful words, laughter, any unwholesome act, whether openly or secretly. (13-124-12)
कार्यार्थे निर्गतं चापि भर्तारं गृहमागतम्। आसनेनोपसंयोज्य पूजयामि समाहिता ॥१३-१२४-१३॥
kāryārthe nirgataṃ cāpi bhartāraṃ gṛhamāgatam। āsanena upasaṃyojya pūjayāmi samāhitā ॥13-124-13॥
[कार्यार्थे (kāryārthe) - for a matter; for a task; निर्गतं (nirgataṃ) - having gone out; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; भर्तारं (bhartāram) - husband; गृहम् (gṛham) - home; आगतम् (āgatam) - having come; आसनेन (āsanena) - with a seat; उपसंयोज्य (upasaṃyojya) - having settled; having caused to sit; पूजयामि (pūjayāmi) - I honor; I worship; समाहिता (samāhitā) - attentively; with concentration;]
(For a task having gone out and also husband to home having come, with a seat having settled, I honor attentively.)
When my husband, who had gone out for a task, returns home, I seat him and worship him attentively. (13-124-13)
यद्यच्च नाभिजानाति यद्भोज्यं नाभिनन्दति। भक्ष्यं वाप्यथ वा लेह्यं तत्सर्वं वर्जयाम्यहम् ॥१३-१२४-१४॥
yadyacca nābhijānāti yadbhōjyaṃ nābhinandati। bhakṣyaṃ vāpyatha vā lehyam tatsarvaṃ varjayāmyaham ॥13-124-14॥
[यद्यत् (yadyat) - whatsoever; च (ca) - and; न (na) - not; अभिजानाति (abhijānāti) - knows; यत् (yat) - what; भोज्यं (bhojyaṃ) - to be eaten; न (na) - not; अभिनन्दति (abhinandati) - approves; भक्ष्यं (bhakṣyaṃ) - to be consumed; वा (vā) - or; अपि (api) - also; अथ (atha) - or; वा (vā) - or; लेह्यं (lehyam) - to be licked; तत् (tat) - that; सर्वं (sarvaṃ) - all; वर्जयामि (varjayāmi) - I abandon; अहम् (aham) - I;]
(Whatsoever and does not know, what to be eaten does not approve, to be consumed or also or to be licked, that all I abandon, I.)
Whatever I do not know and whatever food I do not approve, whether it is to be eaten, consumed, or to be licked, I abandon all of that. (13-124-14)
कुटुम्बार्थे समानीतं यत्किञ्चित्कार्यमेव तु। प्रातरुत्थाय तत्सर्वं कारयामि करोमि च ॥१३-१२४-१५॥
kuṭumbārthe samānītaṃ yatkiñcit kāryam eva tu। prātar utthāya tat sarvaṃ kārayāmi karomi ca ॥13-124-15॥
[कुटुम्बार्थे (kuṭumbārthe) - for the sake of the family; समानीतं (samānītam) - collected; assembled; यत्किञ्चित् (yatkiñcit) - whatever; कार्यं (kāryam) - task; एव (eva) - indeed; तु (tu) - but; प्रातर् (prātar) - in the morning; उत्थाय (utthāya) - having risen; तत् (tat) - that; सर्वं (sarvam) - all; कारयामि (kārayāmi) - I cause (it) to be done; करोमि (karomi) - I do; च (ca) - and;]
(For the sake of the family, whatever task is indeed assembled, but having risen in the morning, all that I cause to be done and do.)
For the sake of the family, whatever task has been assembled, I rise in the morning and both have it done and do it myself. (13-124-15)
प्रवासं यदि मे भर्ता याति कार्येण केनचित्। मङ्गलैर्बहुभिर्युक्ता भवामि नियता सदा ॥१३-१२४-१६॥
pravāsaṃ yadi me bhartā yāti kāryeṇa kenacit. maṅgalair bahubhir yuktā bhavāmi niyatā sadā ॥13-124-16॥
[प्रवासं (pravāsaṃ) - journey; (departure; exile;) यदि (yadi) - if; मे (me) - of me; (my;) भर्ता (bhartā) - husband; याति (yāti) - goes; कार्येण (kāryeṇa) - for some business; (with an affair;) केनचित् (kenacit) - by some; (by someone; by something;) मङ्गलैः (maṅgalaiḥ) - with auspicious things; बहुभिः (bahubhiḥ) - with many; युक्ता (yuktā) - endowed; (joined; provided;) भवामि (bhavāmi) - I become; नियता (niyatā) - devoted; (restrained; fixed;) सदा (sadā) - always;]
(Journey if of me husband goes for business by some, with auspicious things with many endowed I become devoted always.)
If my husband goes on a journey for some business, I always remain devoted, endowed with many auspicious things. (13-124-16)
अञ्जनं रोचनां चैव स्नानं माल्यानुलेपनम्। प्रसाधनं च निष्क्रान्ते नाभिनन्दामि भर्तरि ॥१३-१२४-१७॥
añjanaṁ rocanaṁ caiva snānaṁ mālyānulepanam। prasādhanaṁ ca niṣkrānte nābhinandāmi bhartari ॥13-124-17॥
[अञ्जनं (añjanam) - collyrium; रोचनां (rocanām) - yellow pigment; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; स्नानं (snānam) - bathing; माल्यानुलेपनम् (mālyānulepanam) - garlands and unguents; प्रसाधनं (prasādhanam) - adornment; च (ca) - and; निष्क्रान्ते (niṣkrānte) - when departed; न (na) - not; अभिनन्दामि (abhinandāmi) - I welcome; भर्तरि (bhartari) - when (my) husband;]

I do not enjoy collyrium, yellow pigment, bathing, garlands, unguents, or adornment when my husband is absent. (13-124-17)
नोत्थापयामि भर्तारं सुखसुप्तमहं सदा। आतुरेष्वपि कार्येषु तेन तुष्यति मे मनः ॥१३-१२४-१८॥
notthāpayāmi bhartāraṃ sukhasuptam ahaṃ sadā। ātureṣv api kāryeṣu tena tuṣyati me manaḥ ॥13-124-18॥
[नोत्थापयामि (notthāpayāmi) - I do not awaken; भर्तारं (bhartāram) - (my) husband; सुखसुप्तम् (sukhasuptam) - comfortably sleeping; अहम् (aham) - I; सदा (sadā) - always; आतुर्षु (ātureṣu) - in (times of) illness; अपि (api) - even; कार्येषु (kāryeṣu) - in duties; तेन (tena) - with that; तुष्यति (tuṣyati) - is satisfied; मे (me) - my; मनः (manaḥ) - mind;]
(I do not awaken (my) husband who is comfortably sleeping, I always (do this); even in (times of) illness, in duties, with that, my mind is satisfied.)
I never awaken my husband when he is sleeping comfortably; even during times of illness or duties, my mind is content with this. (13-124-18)
नायासयामि भर्तारं कुटुम्बार्थे च सर्वदा। गुप्तगुह्या सदा चास्मि सुसंमृष्टनिवेशना ॥१३-१२४-१९॥
nāyāsayāmi bhartāraṃ kuṭumbārthe ca sarvadā. guptaguhyā sadā cāsmi susaṃmṛṣṭaniveśanā ॥13-124-19॥

(Not do I distress husband for family purpose and always. One whose private parts are concealed, always and I am of well-cleaned dwelling.)
I never distress my husband about family matters. I am always modest and keep my dwelling well cleaned. (13-124-19)
इमं धर्मपथं नारी पालयन्ती समाहिता। अरुन्धतीव नारीणां स्वर्गलोके महीयते ॥१३-१२४-२०॥
imaṃ dharmapathaṃ nārī pālayantī samāhitā। arundhatīva nārīṇāṃ svargaloke mahīyate ॥13-124-20॥

एतदाख्याय सा देवी सुमनायै तपस्विनी। पतिधर्मं महाभागा जगामादर्शनं तदा ॥१३-१२४-२१॥
etadākhyāya sā devī sumanāyai tapasvinī। patidharmaṃ mahābhāgā jagāmādarśanaṃ tadā॥13-124-21॥

Having narrated this to Sumanā, the ascetic goddess, who was greatly fortunate, followed her husband's duty and then disappeared from sight. (13-124-21)
यश्चेदं पाण्डवाख्यानं पठेत्पर्वणि पर्वणि। स देवलोकं सम्प्राप्य नन्दने सुसुखं वसेत् ॥१३-१२४-२२॥
yaś cedaṃ pāṇḍavākhyānaṃ paṭhet parvaṇi parvaṇi। sa devalokaṃ samprāpya nandane susukhaṃ vaset ॥13-124-22॥
