सभायां वसतोस्तस्यां निहत्यारीन्महात्मनोः। केशवार्जुनयोः का नु कथा समभवद्द्विज ॥१४-१६-१॥
sabhāyāṃ vasatostasyāṃ nihatya ārīn mahātmanoḥ। keśavārjunayoḥ kā nu kathā samabhavad dvija ॥14-16-1॥

कृष्णेन सहितः पार्थः स्वराज्यं प्राप्य केवलम्। तस्यां सभायां रम्यायां विजहार मुदा युतः ॥१४-१६-२॥
kṛṣṇena sahitaḥ pārthaḥ svarājyaṃ prāpya kevalam। tasyāṃ sabhāyāṃ ramyāyāṃ vijahāra mudā yutaḥ॥14-16-2॥
[कृष्णेन (kṛṣṇena) - by Kṛṣṇa; सहितः (sahitaḥ) - accompanied; पार्थः (pārthaḥ) - Pārtha; स्वराज्यं (svarājyaṃ) - his own kingdom; प्राप्य (prāpya) - having obtained; केवलम् (kevalam) - only; तस्यां (tasyāṃ) - in that; सभायां (sabhāyāṃ) - assembly hall; रम्यायां (ramyāyāṃ) - delightful; विजहार (vijahāra) - enjoyed; मुदा (mudā) - with joy; युतः (yutaḥ) - endowed;]
(By Kṛṣṇa accompanied Pārtha his own kingdom having obtained only in that assembly hall delightful enjoyed with joy endowed.)
Accompanied by Kṛṣṇa, Pārtha, having attained his own kingdom, enjoyed himself with delight in that beautiful assembly hall. (14-16-2)
ततः कञ्चित्सभोद्देशं स्वर्गोद्देशसमं नृप। यदृच्छया तौ मुदितौ जग्मतुः स्वजनावृतौ ॥१४-१६-३॥
tataḥ kañcit sabhoddeśaṃ svargoddeśasamaṃ nṛpa। yadṛcchayā tau muditau jagmatuḥ svajanāvṛtau ॥14-16-3॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - from then; after that; कञ्चित् (kañcit) - some; a certain; सभोद्देशं (sabhoddeśam) - assembly region; a place in the assembly; स्वर्गोद्देशसमं (svargoddeśasamam) - equal to the abode of heaven; like heaven; नृप (nṛpa) - O king; यदृच्छया (yadṛcchayā) - by chance; by happenstance; तौ (tau) - those two; मुदितौ (muditau) - gladdened; joyful; जग्मतुः (jagmatuḥ) - they both went; स्वजनावृतौ (svajanāvṛtau) - surrounded by their own people;]
(From then, to a certain assembly region, equal to the abode of heaven, O king; by chance those two, gladdened, both went, surrounded by their own people.)
O king, after that, those two, filled with joy and surrounded by their own people, by chance went to a certain assembly hall equal to the abode of heaven. (14-16-3)
ततः प्रतीतः कृष्णेन सहितः पाण्डवोऽर्जुनः। निरीक्ष्य तां सभां रम्यामिदं वचनमब्रवीत् ॥१४-१६-४॥
tataḥ pratītaḥ kṛṣṇena sahitaḥ pāṇḍavo'rjunaḥ। nirīkṣya tāṃ sabhāṃ ramyām idaṃ vacanam abravīt ॥14-16-4॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; प्रतीतः (pratītaḥ) - having been cheered; कृष्णेन (kṛṣṇena) - by Kṛṣṇa; सहितः (sahitaḥ) - accompanied; पाण्डवः (pāṇḍavaḥ) - the son of Pāṇḍu; अर्जुनः (arjunaḥ) - Arjuna; निरीक्ष्य (nirīkṣya) - having seen; तां (tāṃ) - that; सभां (sabhām) - assembly; रम्याम् (ramyām) - splendid; इदं (idaṃ) - this; वचनम् (vacanam) - speech; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - (he) spoke;]
(Then, having been cheered by Kṛṣṇa, accompanied, the son of Pāṇḍu Arjuna, having seen that splendid assembly, this speech (he) spoke.)
Then, cheered and accompanied by Kṛṣṇa, Pāṇḍava Arjuna, upon beholding that splendid assembly, spoke this speech. (14-16-4)
विदितं ते महाबाहो सङ्ग्रामे समुपस्थिते। माहात्म्यं देवकीमातस्तच्च ते रूपमैश्वरम् ॥१४-१६-५॥
viditaṃ te mahābāho saṅgrāme samupasthite. māhātmyaṃ devakīmātas tac ca te rūpam aiśvaram ॥14-16-5॥
[विदितं (viditaṃ) - known; ते (te) - to you; महाबाहो (mahābāho) - O mighty-armed; सङ्ग्रामे (saṅgrāme) - in the battle; समुपस्थिते (samupasthite) - when arrived; माहात्म्यं (māhātmyaṃ) - greatness; देवकीमातः (devakīmātas) - of Devakī’s son (Kṛṣṇa); तत् (tat) - that; च (ca) - and; ते (te) - to you; रूपम् (rūpam) - form; ऐश्वरम् (aiśvaram) - divine;]
(Known to you, O mighty-armed, when the battle has arrived, the greatness of Devakī’s son, and that divine form to you.)
O mighty-armed, when the battle had arisen, you knew the greatness of Devakī’s son and his divine form. (14-16-5)
यत्तु तद्भवता प्रोक्तं तदा केशव सौहृदात्। तत्सर्वं पुरुषव्याघ्र नष्टं मे नष्टचेतसः ॥१४-१६-६॥
yattu tadbhavatā proktaṃ tadā keśava sauhṛdāt। tatsarvaṃ puruṣavyāghra naṣṭaṃ me naṣṭacetasaḥ ॥14-16-6॥
[यत् (yat) - which; तु (tu) - however; तत् (tat) - that; भवता (bhavatā) - by you; प्रोक्तं (proktam) - spoken; तदा (tadā) - then; केशव (keśava) - Keśava; सौहृदात् (sauhṛdāt) - from friendship; तत् (tat) - that; सर्वं (sarvaṃ) - all; पुरुषव्याघ्र (puruṣavyāghra) - tiger among men; नष्टं (naṣṭam) - lost; मे (me) - for me; नष्टचेतसः (naṣṭacetasaḥ) - of me whose mind is lost;]
(However, that which was spoken by you then, Keśava, out of friendship—tiger among men—all that is lost to me, whose mind is lost.)
However, O Keśava, what you had said to me then out of friendship, O tiger among men, all that has been lost for me whose mind is lost. (14-16-6)
मम कौतूहलं त्वस्ति तेष्वर्थेषु पुनः प्रभो। भवांश्च द्वारकां गन्ता नचिरादिव माधव ॥१४-१६-७॥
mama kautūhalaṃ tv asti teṣv artheṣu punaḥ prabho. bhavāṃś ca dvārakāṃ gantā nacirād iva mādhava ॥14-16-7॥
[मम (mama) - my; कौतूहलं (kautūhalam) - curiosity; त्व (tv) - indeed; अस्ति (asti) - is; तेषु (teṣu) - in those; अर्थेषु (artheṣu) - matters; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; प्रभो (prabho) - O Lord; भवान् (bhavān) - you; च (ca) - and; द्वारकां (dvārakāṃ) - Dwaraka; गन्ता (gantā) - will go; नचिराद् (nacirād) - soon; इव (iva) - as if; माधव (mādhava) - O Mādhava;]
(My curiosity indeed is in those matters again, O Lord. You also will go to Dwaraka soon, as if, O Mādhava.)
O Lord, my curiosity about those matters remains once again. And you, O Mādhava, will soon be going to Dwaraka, it seems. (14-16-7)
एवमुक्तस्ततः कृष्णः फल्गुनं प्रत्यभाषत। परिष्वज्य महातेजा वचनं वदतां वरः ॥१४-१६-८॥
evam-uktas tataḥ kṛṣṇaḥ phalgunaṃ pratyabhāṣata। pariṣvajya mahā-tejā vacanaṃ vadatāṃ varaḥ ॥14-16-8॥
[एवमुक्तः (evam-uktaḥ) - thus addressed; ततः (tataḥ) - then; कृष्णः (kṛṣṇaḥ) - Kṛṣṇa; फल्गुनं (phalgunaṃ) - Phalguna (Arjuna); प्रत्यभाषत (pratyabhāṣata) - addressed; परिष्वज्य (pariṣvajya) - having embraced; महातेजा (mahā-tejā) - of great brilliance; वचनं (vacanaṃ) - words; वदतां (vadatām) - of the speakers; वरः (varaḥ) - the best;]
(Thus addressed, then Kṛṣṇa addressed Phalguna, having embraced (him), the one of great brilliance, the best of speakers, with words.)
Then, when thus addressed, Kṛṣṇa, the one of great brilliance and best among speakers, embraced Phalguna (Arjuna) and spoke these words. (14-16-8)
श्रावितस्त्वं मया गुह्यं ज्ञापितश्च सनातनम्। धर्मं स्वरूपिणं पार्थ सर्वलोकांश्च शाश्वतान् ॥१४-१६-९॥
śrāvitas tvaṃ mayā guhyaṃ jñāpitaś ca sanātanam। dharmaṃ svarūpiṇaṃ pārtha sarvalokāṃś ca śāśvatān॥14-16-9॥
[श्रावितः (śrāvitaḥ) - caused to be heard; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; मया (mayā) - by me; गुह्यम् (guhyam) - secret; ज्ञापितः (jñāpitaḥ) - caused to be known; च (ca) - and; सनातनम् (sanātanam) - eternal; धर्मम् (dharmaṃ) - Dharma; स्वरूपिणम् (svarūpiṇam) - having its own true nature; पार्थ (pārtha) - O Pārtha; सर्वलोकान् (sarvalokān) - all worlds; च (ca) - and; शाश्वतान् (śāśvatān) - eternal;]
(You, by me, have been made to hear the secret and caused to know the eternal, and the Dharma endowed with its own true nature, O Pārtha, and also all the worlds which are eternal.)
O Pārtha, you have been made to hear the secret and to know the eternal truth by me, as well as the Dharma in its true nature and all the eternal worlds. (14-16-9)
अबुद्ध्वा यन्न गृह्णीथास्तन्मे सुमहदप्रियम्। नूनमश्रद्दधानोऽसि दुर्मेधाश्चासि पाण्डव ॥१४-१६-१०॥
abuddhvā yan na gṛhṇīthās tan me sumahad apriyam। nūnam aśraddadhāno 'si durmedhāś cāsi pāṇḍava ॥14-16-10॥
[अबुद्ध्वा (abuddhvā) - without understanding; यत् (yat) - that which; न (na) - not; गृह्णीथाः (gṛhṇīthāḥ) - you accept; तत् (tat) - that; मे (me) - to me; सुमहत् (sumahat) - very great; अप्रियम् (apriyam) - displeasing; नूनम् (nūnam) - surely; अश्रद्दधानः (aśraddadhānaḥ) - lacking faith; असि (asi) - you are; दुर्मेधा (durmedhāḥ) - having poor understanding; च (ca) - and; असि (asi) - you are; पाण्डव (pāṇḍava) - O son of Pandu;]
(Without understanding that which you do not accept, that to me is very greatly displeasing. Surely you are lacking faith; you are of poor understanding also, O son of Pandu.)
Without understanding, that which you do not accept is very displeasing to me. Surely, you are lacking in faith and have poor understanding, O son of Pandu. (14-16-10)
स हि धर्मः सुपर्याप्तो ब्रह्मणः पदवेदने। न शक्यं तन्मया भूयस्तथा वक्तुमशेषतः ॥१४-१६-११॥
sa hi dharmaḥ suparyāpto brahmaṇaḥ padavedane। na śakyaṃ tanmayā bhūyastathā vaktumaśeṣataḥ ॥14-16-11॥
[स (sa) - he; that; हि (hi) - for; indeed; धर्मः (dharmaḥ) - duty; law; righteousness; सुपर्याप्तः (suparyāptaḥ) - well-wrought; thoroughly expounded; ब्रह्मणः (brahmaṇaḥ) - of Brahman; (or) of the Veda; of the Absolute; पदवेदने (padavedane) - in the comprehension of the word; in understanding the steps/words; न (na) - not; शक्यं (śakyaṃ) - possible; तत् (tat) - that; मया (mayā) - by me; भूयः (bhūyaḥ) - further; again; more; तथा (tathā) - thus; in that way; वक्तुम् (vaktum) - to speak; अशेषतः (aśeṣataḥ) - entirely; exhaustively; without remainder;]
(He indeed duty well-expounded of Brahman in the comprehension of the word; not possible that by me further thus to speak entirely.)
Indeed, that duty which has been thoroughly expounded in the comprehension of the words of Brahman is not possible for me to explain further in its entirety in this way. (14-16-11)
परं हि ब्रह्म कथितं योगयुक्तेन तन्मया। इतिहासं तु वक्ष्यामि तस्मिन्नर्थे पुरातनम् ॥१४-१६-१२॥
paraṃ hi brahma kathitaṃ yogayuktena tanmayā। itihāsaṃ tu vakṣyāmi tasminnathe purātanam ॥14-16-12॥
[परं (paraṃ) - supreme; हि (hi) - indeed; ब्रह्म (brahma) - Brahman; कथितं (kathitaṃ) - told; योगयुक्तेन (yogayuktena) - by one endowed with yoga; तन्मया (tanmayā) - by me absorbed in That; इतिहासं (itihāsaṃ) - history; तु (tu) - but; वक्ष्यामि (vakṣyāmi) - I shall tell; तस्मिन्नर्थे (tasmin-arthe) - in that meaning; पुरातनम् (purātanam) - ancient;]
(Indeed, the supreme Brahman was told by one endowed with yoga, by me absorbed in That. But history I shall tell in that meaning, ancient.)
Indeed, the supreme Brahman has been described by me who is absorbed in yoga. But now, in that context, I will tell the ancient history. (14-16-12)
यथा तां बुद्धिमास्थाय गतिमग्र्यां गमिष्यसि। शृणु धर्मभृतां श्रेष्ठ गदतः सर्वमेव मे ॥१४-१६-१३॥
yathā tāṃ buddhim āsthāya gatim agryāṃ gamiṣyasi। śṛṇu dharmabhṛtāṃ śreṣṭha gadataḥ sarvam eva me॥14-16-13॥
[यथा (yathā) - as; तां (tāṃ) - that; बुद्धिम् (buddhim) - understanding; आस्थाय (āsthāya) - having resorted to; गतिम् (gatim) - path; अग्र्यां (agryāṃ) - excellent; गमिष्यसि (gamiṣyasi) - you will attain; शृणु (śṛṇu) - listen; धर्मभृताम् (dharmabhṛtām) - of the upholders of dharma; श्रेष्ठ (śreṣṭha) - best; गदतः (gadataḥ) - speaking; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; एव (eva) - indeed; मे (me) - of me;]
(As that understanding having resorted to, the excellent path you will attain. Listen, O best of the upholders of dharma, to all indeed from me as I speak.)
By resorting to that understanding, you will attain the excellent path. Listen attentively to everything I say, O best among the upholders of dharma. (14-16-13)
आगच्छद्ब्राह्मणः कश्चित्स्वर्गलोकादरिंदम। ब्रह्मलोकाच्च दुर्धर्षः सोऽस्माभिः पूजितोऽभवत् ॥१४-१६-१४॥
āgacchad brāhmaṇaḥ kaścit svargalokād ariṁdama। brahmalokāc ca durdharṣaḥ saḥ asmābhiḥ pūjitaḥ abhavat ॥14-16-14॥
[आगच्छत् (āgacchat) - coming; ब्राह्मणः (brāhmaṇaḥ) - a brāhmaṇa; कश्चित् (kaścit) - some; स्वर्गलोकात् (svargalokāt) - from heaven (svarga) world; अरिंदम (ariṁdama) - O subduer of enemies; ब्रह्मलोकाच् (brahmalokāt) - from Brahmaloka; च (ca) - and; दुर्धर्षः (durdharṣaḥ) - Durdharṣa (name); सः (saḥ) - he; अस्माभिः (asmābhiḥ) - by us; पूजितः (pūjitaḥ) - honored; अभवत् (abhavat) - became;]
(A certain brāhmaṇa coming from the world of heaven, O subduer of enemies. Durdharṣa from Brahmaloka also, he became honored by us.)
O subduer of enemies, a certain brāhmaṇa came from heaven, and Durdharṣa from Brahmaloka was also honored by us. (14-16-14)
अस्माभिः परिपृष्टश्च यदाह भरतर्षभ। दिव्येन विधिना पार्थ तच्छृणुष्वाविचारयन् ॥१४-१६-१५॥
asmābhiḥ paripṛṣṭaśca yadāha bharatarṣabha. divyena vidhinā pārtha tacchṛṇuṣvāvicārayan ॥14-16-15॥
[अस्माभिः (asmābhiḥ) - by us; परिपृष्टः (paripṛṣṭaḥ) - asked; च (ca) - and; यद् (yad) - which; आह (āha) - spoke; भरतर्षभ (bharatarṣabha) - O bull among the Bharatas; दिव्येन (divyena) - by divine; विधिना (vidhinā) - rule; पार्थ (pārtha) - O Pārtha; तत् (tat) - that; श्रुणु (śṛṇu) - hear; ष्व (ṣva) - you; अविचारयन् (avicārayan) - without doubt;]
(By us asked and which he spoke, O bull among the Bharatas, by the divine rule, O Pārtha, that hear you without doubting.)
O Pārtha, whatever he spoke when asked by us, O best of the Bharatas, hear that which was spoken according to the divine ordinance without any doubt. (14-16-15)

मोक्षधर्मं समाश्रित्य कृष्ण यन्मानुपृच्छसि। भूतानामनुकम्पार्थं यन्मोहच्छेदनं प्रभो ॥१४-१६-१६॥
mokṣadharmaṃ samāśritya kṛṣṇa yan mānupṛcchasi| bhūtānāmanukampārthaṃ yan mohacchedanaṃ prabho ॥14-16-16॥
[मोक्षधर्मं (mokṣadharmaṃ) - the dharma (doctrine) of liberation (mokṣa); समाश्रित्य (samāśritya) - having resorted to; कृष्ण (kṛṣṇa) - O Kṛṣṇa; यत् (yat) - which; मा (mā) - me; अनुपृच्छसि (anupṛcchasi) - you are asking; भूतानाम् (bhūtānām) - of beings; अनुकम्पार्थं (anukampārthaṃ) - for the sake of compassion; यत् (yat) - which; मोहच्छेदनं (mohacchedanaṃ) - the cutting off of delusion; प्रभो (prabho) - O Lord;]
(Having resorted to the dharma of liberation, O Kṛṣṇa, which you are asking me, for the sake of compassion for beings, which is the cutting off of delusion, O Lord.)
O Kṛṣṇa, resorting to the dharma of liberation, the questions you ask me out of compassion for beings, which are intended to cut off delusion, O Lord, (14-16-16)
तत्तेऽहं सम्प्रवक्ष्यामि यथावन्मधुसूदन। शृणुष्वावहितो भूत्वा गदतो मम माधव ॥१४-१६-१७॥
tat te ’haṃ sampravakṣyāmi yathāvan madhusūdana। śṛṇuṣva āvahitaḥ bhūtvā gadataḥ mama mādhava ॥14-16-17॥
[तत् (tat) - that; ते (te) - to you; अहम् (aham) - I; सम्प्रवक्ष्यामि (sampravakṣyāmi) - will fully explain; यथावत् (yathāvat) - properly; मधुसूदन (madhusūdana) - slayer of Madhu; शृणुष्व (śṛṇuṣva) - listen; आवहितः (āvahitaḥ) - attentive; भूत्वा (bhūtvā) - having become; गदतः (gadataḥ) - speaking; मम (mama) - my; माधव (mādhava) - descendant of Madhu;]
(That to you I will fully explain properly, O slayer of Madhu. Listen, being attentive, to my speaking, O Mādhava. (14-16-17))
O Mādhava, I will now explain that to you properly, O slayer of Madhu. Listen attentively as I speak. (14-16-17)
कश्चिद्विप्रस्तपोयुक्तः काश्यपो धर्मवित्तमः। आससाद द्विजं कञ्चिद्धर्माणामागतागमम् ॥१४-१६-१८॥
kaścid vipraḥ tapo-yuktaḥ kāśyapaḥ dharma-vittamaḥ। āsasāda dvijaṃ kaṃcit dharmāṇām āgata-āgamam ॥14-16-18॥
[कश्चित् (kaścit) - some; विप्रः (vipraḥ) - Brāhmaṇa; तपःयुक्तः (tapo-yuktaḥ) - engaged in asceticism; काश्यपः (kāśyapaḥ) - Kashyapa (descendant of Kaśyapa); धर्मवित्तमः (dharma-vittamaḥ) - most knowing in dharma; आससाद (āsasāda) - approached; द्विजम् (dvijam) - a twice-born (Brāhmaṇa); कञ्चित् (kaṃcit) - some; धर्माणाम् (dharmāṇām) - of dharmas; आगतागमम् (āgata-āgamam) - versed in scriptures and tradition;]
(Some Brāhmaṇa, engaged in asceticism, Kashyapa, most knowing in dharma, approached some twice-born versed in the scriptures and traditions of dharmas.)
Once a certain Brāhmaṇa named Kashyapa, devoted to austerities and most learned in dharma, approached another Brāhmaṇa who was well-versed in the received and traditional dharmas. (14-16-18)
गतागते सुबहुशो ज्ञानविज्ञानपारगम्। लोकतत्त्वार्थकुशलं ज्ञातारं सुखदुःखयोः ॥१४-१६-१९॥
gatāgate subahuśo jñānavijñānapāragam। lokatattvārthakuśalaṃ jñātāraṃ sukhaduḥkhayoḥ ॥14-16-19॥
[गतागते (gatāgate) - in what has gone and what has come; (in past and future;) सुबहुशः (subahuśaḥ) - very often; repeatedly; ज्ञानविज्ञानपारगम् (jñānavijñānapāragam) - one who has crossed (become skillful in) knowledge and wisdom; लोकतत्त्वार्थकुशलम् (lokatattvārthakuśalam) - skilled in the true meaning of the principles of the world; ज्ञातारम् (jñātāram) - one who knows; सुखदुःखयोः (sukhaduḥkhayoḥ) - of happiness and sorrow;]
(In what has gone and come, very often, one who has mastered knowledge and wisdom, skilled in the true meaning of the principles of the world, knower of happiness and sorrow.)
One who repeatedly reflects on past and future, is accomplished in knowledge and wisdom, skilled in understanding the true principles of the world, and knows the nature of both happiness and sorrow. (14-16-19)
जातीमरणतत्त्वज्ञं कोविदं पुण्यपापयोः। द्रष्टारमुच्चनीचानां कर्मभिर्देहिनां गतिम् ॥१४-१६-२०॥
jātīmaraṇatattvajñaṃ kovidaṃ puṇyapāpayoḥ। draṣṭāram uccanīcānāṃ karmabhir dehināṃ gatim ॥14-16-20॥

(One who knows the reality of birth and death, is expert, of merit and demerit, witness of the course of embodied beings, high and low, by actions.)
One who understands the reality of birth and death, who is expert in the distinctions of merit and demerit, and who perceives the destiny of all embodied beings, high and low, as determined by their actions, (such a one...) (14-16-20)
चरन्तं मुक्तवत्सिद्धं प्रशान्तं संयतेन्द्रियम्। दीप्यमानं श्रिया ब्राह्म्या क्रममाणं च सर्वशः ॥१४-१६-२१॥
carantaṁ muktavatsiddhaṁ praśāntaṁ saṁyatendriyam। dīpyamānaṁ śriyā brāhmyā kramamāṇaṁ ca sarvaśaḥ॥14-16-21॥
[चरन्तं (carantam) - moving; मुक्तवत् (muktavat) - like one liberated; सिद्धं (siddham) - perfected; प्रशान्तं (praśāntam) - peaceful; संयतेन्द्रियम् (saṁyatendriyam) - having controlled senses; दीप्यमानं (dīpyamānam) - shining; श्रिया (śriyā) - with splendour; ब्राह्म्या (brāhmyā) - of Brahman; क्रममाणं (kramamāṇam) - advancing; च (ca) - and; सर्वशः (sarvaśaḥ) - in every way;]
(Moving like one liberated, perfected, peaceful, having controlled senses; shining with the splendour of Brahman, advancing and in every way.)
He moves like one who is liberated, perfected, peaceful, and self-controlled; glowing with the splendour of Brahman, advancing in every way. (14-16-21)
अन्तर्धानगतिज्ञं च श्रुत्वा तत्त्वेन काश्यपः। तथैवान्तर्हितैः सिद्धैर्यान्तं चक्रधरैः सह ॥१४-१६-२२॥
antardhānagatijñaṃ ca śrutvā tattvena kāśyapaḥ। tathaivāntarhitaiḥ siddhairyāntaṃ cakradharaiḥ saha॥14-16-22॥
[अन्तर्धानगतिज्ञं (antardhānagatijñam) - knower of the movement of disappearance; च (ca) - and; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; तत्त्वेन (tattvena) - truly; काश्यपः (kāśyapaḥ) - Kāśyapa; तथा (tathā) - so; एव (eva) - indeed; अन्तर्हितैः (antarhitaiḥ) - with those who had disappeared; सिद्धैः (siddhaiḥ) - with perfected beings; यान्तं (yāntam) - proceeding; चक्रधरैः (cakradharaiḥ) - with the bearers of the discus; सह (saha) - together;]
(Having truly heard (about) the knower of the movement of disappearance, Kāśyapa, so indeed with those disappeared perfected beings, proceeding with the bearers of the discus, together.)
After truly hearing about the one who knows the movement of disappearance, Kāśyapa, along with disappeared siddhas and those bearing the discus, proceeded together. (14-16-22)
सम्भाषमाणमेकान्ते समासीनं च तैः सह। यदृच्छया च गच्छन्तमसक्तं पवनं यथा ॥१४-१६-२३॥
sambhāṣamāṇam-ekānte samāsīnaṃ ca taiḥ saha। yadṛcchayā ca gacchantam-asaktaṃ pavanaṃ yathā॥14-16-23॥
[सम्भाषमाणम् (sambhāṣamāṇam) - speaking; एकान्ते (ekānte) - in solitude; समासीनम् (samāsīnam) - seated; च (ca) - and; तैः (taiḥ) - with them; सह (saha) - together; यदृच्छया (yadṛcchayā) - by chance; च (ca) - and; गच्छन्तम् (gacchantam) - going; असक्तम् (asaktam) - unattached; पवनम् (pavanam) - wind; यथा (yathā) - like;]
(Speaking in solitude, seated together with them, and by chance going unattached, like the wind.)
Seated in solitude and conversing with them, or moving about by chance, unattached, like the wind. (14-16-23)
तं समासाद्य मेधावी स तदा द्विजसत्तमः। चरणौ धर्मकामो वै तपस्वी सुसमाहितः ॥ प्रतिपेदे यथान्यायं भक्त्या परमया युतः ॥१४-१६-२४॥
taṃ samāsādya medhāvī sa tadā dvijasattamaḥ। caraṇau dharmakāmo vai tapasvī susamāhitaḥ॥ pratipede yathānyāyaṃ bhaktyā paramayā yutaḥ॥14-16-24॥
[तं (taṃ) - him; समासाद्य (samāsādya) - having approached; मेधावी (medhāvī) - wise; स (sa) - he; तदा (tadā) - then; द्विजसत्तमः (dvijasattamaḥ) - the best of Brāhmaṇas; चरणौ (caraṇau) - feet (dual); धर्मकामः (dharmakāmaḥ) - desirous of dharma; वै (vai) - indeed; तपस्वी (tapasvī) - ascetic; सुसमाहितः (susamāhitaḥ) - well composed; प्रतिपेदे (pratipede) - he approached (took hold of); यथान्यायं (yathānyāyam) - according to custom; भक्त्या (bhaktyā) - with devotion; परमया (paramayā) - supreme; युतः (yutaḥ) - endowed (with);]
(He, the wise, then, having approached him, the best of Brāhmaṇas, the desirous of dharma, indeed, the ascetic, well composed, approached (the feet) according to custom, with devotional, supreme (attitude), endowed (with such).)
Then that wise ascetic, greatly self-composed and intent on dharma, having approached the best of Brāhmaṇas, reverently took hold of his feet according to custom, with supreme devotion. (14-16-24)
विस्मितश्चाद्भुतं दृष्ट्वा काश्यपस्तं द्विजोत्तमम्। परिचारेण महता गुरुं वैद्यमतोषयत् ॥१४-१६-२५॥
vismitaś cādbhutaṃ dṛṣṭvā kāśyapas taṃ dvijottamam. paricāreṇa mahatā guruṃ vaidyam atoṣayat ॥14-16-25॥

(Astonished and wonderful having seen Kāśyapa him, the best among the twice-born, by great service gratified the teacher, the physician.)

प्रीतात्मा चोपपन्नश्च श्रुतचारित्रसंयुतः। भावेन तोषयच्चैनं गुरुवृत्त्या परन्तपः ॥१४-१६-२६॥
prītātmā copapannaś ca śrutacāritrasaṃyutaḥ। bhāvena toṣayac cainaṃ guru-vṛttyā parantapaḥ ॥14-16-26॥

(With a delighted mind and endowed with learning and conduct, with feeling he pleased him by the conduct towards the teacher, O chastiser of the foe.)
O chastiser of the foe, with a delighted mind, endowed with learning and good conduct, he pleased him with feeling by his conduct as a disciple. (14-16-26)
तस्मै तुष्टः स शिष्याय प्रसन्नोऽथाब्रवीद्गुरुः। सिद्धिं परामभिप्रेक्ष्य शृणु तन्मे जनार्दन ॥१४-१६-२७॥
tasmai tuṣṭaḥ sa śiṣyāya prasanno’thābravīd guruḥ। siddhiṃ parām abhiprekṣya śṛṇu tan me janārdana॥14-16-27॥

(To him, being pleased, he, to the disciple, gracious, then spoke the teacher. Success, supreme, having considered, hear that from me, O Janardana.)
Being pleased with him, the gracious teacher then spoke to the disciple: Having considered supreme success, hear that from me, O Janardana. (14-16-27)
विविधैः कर्मभिस्तात पुण्ययोगैश्च केवलैः। गच्छन्तीह गतिं मर्त्या देवलोकेऽपि च स्थितिम् ॥१४-१६-२८॥
vividhaiḥ karmabhiḥ tāta puṇyayogaiḥ ca kevalaiḥ। gacchanti iha gatim martyāḥ devaloke api ca sthitim॥14-16-28॥
[विविधैः (vividhaiḥ) - by various; कर्मभिः (karmabhiḥ) - by actions; तात (tāta) - O dear; पुण्ययोगैः (puṇyayogaiḥ) - by connections with merit; च (ca) - and; केवलैः (kevalaiḥ) - by only (solely); गच्छन्ति (gacchanti) - they go; इह (iha) - here; गतिम् (gatim) - way; मर्त्याः (martyāḥ) - mortals; देवलोकेऽपि (devaloke'pi) - even in the world of the gods; च (ca) - and; स्थितिम् (sthitim) - state;]
(By various actions, O dear, and by only connections with merit, mortals here go to a way and (even) obtain a state in the world of the gods.)
O dear, through various actions and solely through meritorious deeds, mortals attain paths here and also attain states in the world of the gods. (14-16-28)
न क्वचित्सुखमत्यन्तं न क्वचिच्छाश्वती स्थितिः। स्थानाच्च महतो भ्रंशो दुःखलब्धात्पुनः पुनः ॥१४-१६-२९॥
na kvacit sukham atyantaṃ na kvacit śāśvatī sthitiḥ। sthānāc ca mahataḥ bhraṃśaḥ duḥkha-labdhāt punaḥ punaḥ॥14-16-29॥
[न (na) - not; क्वचित् (kvacit) - anywhere; at any time; सुखम् (sukham) - happiness; अत्यन्तम् (atyantam) - eternally; entirely; न (na) - not; क्वचित् (kvacit) - anywhere; at any time; शाश्वती (śāśvatī) - eternal; स्थितिः (sthitiḥ) - abiding; existence; स्थानात् (sthānāt) - from position; च (ca) - and; महतः (mahataḥ) - great; भ्रंशः (bhraṃśaḥ) - fall; loss; दुःखलब्धात् (duḥkha-labdhāt) - from what is attained by suffering; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; पुनः (punaḥ) - again;]
(Not anywhere happiness eternal, not anywhere eternal abiding; from position and great fall, from what is attained by suffering, again and again.)
There is never eternal happiness anywhere, nor any everlasting state of existence; from high positions, a great fall happens, and what is gained through suffering is lost again and again. (14-16-29)
अशुभा गतयः प्राप्ताः कष्टा मे पापसेवनात्। काममन्युपरीतेन तृष्णया मोहितेन च ॥१४-१६-३०॥
aśubhā gatayaḥ prāptāḥ kaṣṭā me pāpasevanāt। kāmāmanyuparītena tṛṣṇayā mohitena ca ॥14-16-30॥
[अशुभा (aśubhā) - inauspicious; गतयः (gatayaḥ) - courses; प्राप्ताः (prāptāḥ) - have obtained; कष्टा (kaṣṭā) - painful; मे (me) - to me; पापसेवनात् (pāpasevanāt) - from indulgence in sin; काममन्युपरीतेन (kāmāmanyuparītena) - overpowered by desire and anger; तृष्णया (tṛṣṇayā) - by thirst (craving); मोहितेन (mohitena) - deluded; च (ca) - and;]
(Inauspicious courses have obtained, painful to me, from indulgence in sin; overpowered by desire and anger, by craving, deluded and;)
I have encountered painful and inauspicious paths because of sinful indulgence, being overpowered by desire, anger, and delusion born of craving. (14-16-30)
पुनः पुनश्च मरणं जन्म चैव पुनः पुनः। आहारा विविधा भुक्ताः पीता नानाविधाः स्तनाः ॥१४-१६-३१॥
punaḥ punaś ca maraṇaṃ janma caiva punaḥ punaḥ। āhārā vividhā bhuktāḥ pītā nānāvidhāḥ stanāḥ॥14-16-31॥
[पुनः (punaḥ) - again; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; च (ca) - and; मरणं (maraṇam) - death; जन्म (janma) - birth; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - verily; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; आहारा (āhārāḥ) - foods; विविधा (vividhāḥ) - various; भुक्ताः (bhuktāḥ) - eaten; पीता (pītāḥ) - drunk; नानाविधाः (nānāvidhāḥ) - of many kinds; स्तनाः (stanāḥ) - breasts;]
(Again and again death, birth and verily again and again; foods various eaten, breasts of many kinds drunk;)
Again and again, there is death and birth, again and again; various kinds of foods have been eaten, and breasts of many kinds have been suckled. (14-16-31)
मातरो विविधा दृष्टाः पितरश्च पृथग्विधाः। सुखानि च विचित्राणि दुःखानि च मयानघ ॥१४-१६-३२॥
mātaro vividhā dṛṣṭāḥ pitaraś ca pṛthag-vidhāḥ। sukhāni ca vicitrāṇi duḥkhāni ca mayānagha ॥14-16-32॥
[मातरः (mātaraḥ) - mothers; विविधाः (vividhāḥ) - various; दृष्टाः (dṛṣṭāḥ) - have been seen; पितरः (pitaraḥ) - fathers; च (ca) - and; पृथग्विधाः (pṛthag-vidhāḥ) - of different kinds; सुखानि (sukhāni) - pleasures; च (ca) - and; विचित्राणि (vicitrāṇi) - of various kinds; दुःखानि (duḥkhāni) - sorrows; च (ca) - and; मया (mayā) - by me; अनघ (anagha) - O sinless one;]
(Mothers various have been seen, and fathers of different kinds; pleasures and of various kinds, sorrows and by me, O sinless one.)
O sinless one, various types of mothers and different kinds of fathers have been seen by me, as well as many kinds of pleasures and sorrows. (14-16-32)
प्रियैर्विवासो बहुशः संवासश्चाप्रियैः सह। धननाशश्च सम्प्राप्तो लब्ध्वा दुःखेन तद्धनम् ॥१४-१६-३३॥
priyair vivāso bahuśaḥ saṁvāsaś cāpriyaiḥ saha। dhananāśaś ca samprāpto labdhvā duḥkhena taddhanam॥14-16-33॥
[प्रियैः (priyaiḥ) - with dear ones; विवासः (vivāsaḥ) - separation; बहुशः (bahuśaḥ) - many times; संवासः (saṁvāsaḥ) - association; च (ca) - and; अप्रियैः (apriyaiḥ) - with unpleasant ones; सह (saha) - together; धन-नाशः (dhana-nāśaḥ) - loss of wealth; च (ca) - and; सम्प्राप्तः (samprāptaḥ) - occurred; लब्ध्वा (labdhvā) - having obtained; दुःखेन (duḥkhena) - with suffering; तत्-धनम् (tad-dhanam) - that wealth;]
(With dear ones, separation, many times; association and with unpleasant ones together; loss of wealth and occurred; having obtained with suffering that wealth.)
There has often been separation from dear ones, association with unpleasant ones; and, having obtained that wealth with suffering, its loss has occurred. (14-16-33)
अवमानाः सुकष्टाश्च परतः स्वजनात्तथा। शारीरा मानसाश्चापि वेदना भृशदारुणाः ॥१४-१६-३४॥
avamānāḥ sukaṣṭāś ca parataḥ svajanāt tathā। śārīrā mānasāś cāpi vedanā bhṛśadāruṇāḥ ॥14-16-34॥
[अवमानाः (avamānāḥ) - insults; सुकष्टाः (sukaṣṭāḥ) - great sufferings; च (ca) - and; परतः (parataḥ) - from others; स्वजनात् (svajanāt) - from one's own people; तथा (tathā) - also; शारीराः (śārīrāḥ) - bodily; मानसाः (mānasāḥ) - mental; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; वेदनाः (vedanāḥ) - pains; भृशदारुणाः (bhṛśadāruṇāḥ) - very severe;]
(Insults, great sufferings and from others, from one's own people also; bodily, mental and also pains very severe.)
There are insults and great sufferings, both from others and one’s own people; and very severe bodily and mental pains also. (14-16-34)
प्राप्ता विमाननाश्चोग्रा वधबन्धाश्च दारुणाः। पतनं निरये चैव यातनाश्च यमक्षये ॥१४-१६-३५॥
prāptā vimānanāś cogrā vadhabandhāś ca dāruṇāḥ। patanaṃ niraye caiva yātanāś ca yamakṣaye ॥14-16-35॥
[प्राप्ता (prāptā) - (they have) obtained; विमाननाः (vimānanāḥ) - disgraces; च (ca) - and; उग्रा (ugrā) - terrible; वधबन्धाः (vadhabandhāḥ) - slaughters and bonds; च (ca) - and; दारुणाः (dāruṇāḥ) - cruel; पतनम् (patanam) - fall; निरये (niraye) - in hell; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; यातनाः (yātanāḥ) - torments; च (ca) - and; यमक्षये (yamakṣaye) - in the abode of Yama;]
(They have obtained disgraces and, terrible, cruel slaughters and bonds; also fall in hell indeed and torments in the abode of Yama.)
They have incurred disgrace and severe, terrible punishments—slaughter and binding, a fall into hell, and sufferings in Yama's realm. (14-16-35)
जरा रोगाश्च सततं वासनानि च भूरिशः। लोकेऽस्मिन्ननुभूतानि द्वंद्वजानि भृशं मया ॥१४-१६-३६॥
jarā rogāś ca satataṃ vāsanāni ca bhūriśaḥ। loke'smin anubhūtāni dvaṃdvajāni bhṛśaṃ mayā॥14-16-36॥
[जरा (jarā) - old age; रोगाः (rogāḥ) - diseases; च (ca) - and; सततं (satataṃ) - constantly; वासनानि (vāsanāni) - impressions; च (ca) - and; भूरिशः (bhūriśaḥ) - frequently; लोकेऽस्मिन् (loke'smin) - in this world; अनुभूतानि (anubhūtāni) - experienced; द्वंद्वजानि (dvaṃdvajāni) - born of dualities; भृशं (bhṛśaṃ) - intensely; मया (mayā) - by me;]
(Old age, diseases and constantly impressions and frequently in this world, experienced, born of dualities, intensely by me.)
Old age, diseases, and many impressions—I have intensely experienced these frequent results of dualities in this world. (14-16-36)
ततः कदाचिन्निर्वेदान्निकारान्निकृतेन च। लोकतन्त्रं परित्यक्तं दुःखार्तेन भृशं मया ॥ ततः सिद्धिरियं प्राप्ता प्रसादादात्मनो मया ॥१४-१६-३७॥
tataḥ kadācin nirvedāt nikārāt nikṛtena ca। loka-tantraṃ parityaktaṃ duḥkhārtena bhṛśaṃ mayā॥ tataḥ siddhir iyaṃ prāptā prasādāt ātmano mayā॥14-16-37॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; कदाचित् (kadācit) - at some time; निर्वेदात् (nirvedāt) - from detachment; निकारात् (nikārāt) - from contempt; निकृतेन (nikṛtena) - by being deceived; च (ca) - and; लोकतन्त्रं (loka-tantram) - worldly order; परित्यक्तं (parityaktam) - having abandoned; दुःखार्तेन (duḥkhārtena) - by one afflicted by sorrow; भृशं (bhṛśam) - greatly; मया (mayā) - by me; ततः (tataḥ) - then; सिद्धिः (siddhiḥ) - accomplishment; इयम् (iyam) - this; प्राप्ता (prāptā) - obtained; प्रसादात् (prasādāt) - by the grace; आत्मनः (ātmanaḥ) - of the self; मया (mayā) - by me;]
(Then, at some time, from detachment, from contempt, and by being deceived, the worldly order was greatly abandoned by me who was afflicted by sorrow. Then this accomplishment was obtained by me by the grace of the self. (14-16-37))
Then, once, because of detachment, contempt, and having been deceived, I, greatly afflicted by sorrow, abandoned the worldly life. Then, by the grace of the self, I obtained this accomplishment. (14-16-37)
नाहं पुनरिहागन्ता लोकानालोकयाम्यहम्। आ सिद्धेरा प्रजासर्गादात्मनो मे गतिः शुभा ॥१४-१६-३८॥
nāhaṃ punarihāgantā lokānālokayāmyaham। ā siddherā prajāsargādātmano me gatiḥ śubhā ॥14-16-38॥
[न (na) - not; अहम् (aham) - I; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; इह (iha) - here; आगन्ता (āgantā) - one who will come; लोकान् (lokān) - worlds (accusative plural); अनालोकयामि (anālokayāmi) - do not look upon; अहम् (aham) - I; आ (ā) - from (up to the point of); सिद्धेः (siddheḥ) - attainment (ablative singular); प्रजासर्गात् (prajāsargāt) - from the creation of beings; आत्मनः (ātmanaḥ) - of the self; मे (me) - my; गतिः (gatiḥ) - path; moving; way; शुभा (śubhā) - auspicious;]
(Not I again here (am) one who will come, worlds I do not look upon, I. From attainment, from the creation of beings, of the self, my path (is) auspicious.)
I will not return here again, nor do I look upon the worlds. From the attainment (of the goal), from the creation of beings, my own path is auspicious. (14-16-38)
उपलब्धा द्विजश्रेष्ठ तथेयं सिद्धिरुत्तमा। इतः परं गमिष्यामि ततः परतरं पुनः ॥ ब्रह्मणः पदमव्यग्रं मा ते भूदत्र संशयः ॥१४-१६-३९॥
upalabdhā dvijaśreṣṭha tatheyaṁ siddhiruttamā. itaḥ paraṁ gamiṣyāmi tataḥ parataraṁ punaḥ ॥ brahmaṇaḥ padamavyagraṁ mā te bhūdatra saṁśayaḥ ॥14-16-39॥
[उपलब्धा (upalabdhā) - having been obtained; द्विजश्रेष्ठ (dvijaśreṣṭha) - O best of twice-born; तथ (tatha) - thus; इयं (iyaṁ) - this; सिद्धिरुत्तमा (siddhiruttamā) - attainment supreme; इतः (itaḥ) - from here; परं (paraṁ) - further; गमिष्यामि (gamiṣyāmi) - I shall go; ततः (tataḥ) - thereafter; परतरं (parataraṁ) - more supreme; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; ब्रह्मणः (brahmaṇaḥ) - of Brahman; पदमव्यग्रं (padam avyagraṁ) - the calm abode; मा (mā) - do not; ते (te) - to you; भूत् (bhūt) - let be; अत्र (atra) - here; संशयः (saṁśayaḥ) - doubt;]
(Having been obtained, O best of twice-born, thus is this supreme attainment. From here, further, I shall go, thereafter, more supreme again. Of Brahman, the calm abode, do not let to you here doubt.)
O best of twice-born, this supreme attainment has thus been achieved. From here I shall go further, and then advance still higher. The unperturbed abode of Brahman—do not have any doubt about this here. (14-16-39)
नाहं पुनरिहागन्ता मर्त्यलोकं परन्तप। प्रीतोऽस्मि ते महाप्राज्ञ ब्रूहि किं करवाणि ते ॥१४-१६-४०॥
nāhaṃ punarihāgāntā martyalokaṃ parantapa। prīto'smi te mahāprājña brūhi kiṃ karavāṇi te ॥14-16-40॥
[न (na) - not; अहम् (aham) - I; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; इह (iha) - here; आगन्ता (āgantā) - will come; मर्त्यलोकं (martyalokaṃ) - mortal world; परन्तप (parantapa) - O chastiser of enemies; प्रीतः (prītaḥ) - pleased; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; ते (te) - with you; महाप्राज्ञ (mahāprājña) - O greatly wise one; ब्रूहि (brūhi) - tell; किम् (kim) - what; करवाणि (karavāṇi) - shall I do; ते (te) - for you;]
(Not I again here will come to the mortal world, O chastiser of enemies. Pleased I am with you, O greatly wise one, tell what shall I do for you.)
I will not come again here to the mortal world, O chastiser of enemies. I am pleased with you, O greatly wise one; tell me, what shall I do for you? (14-16-40)
यदीप्सुरुपपन्नस्त्वं तस्य कालोऽयमागतः। अभिजाने च तदहं यदर्थं मा त्वमागतः ॥ अचिरात्तु गमिष्यामि येनाहं त्वामचूचुदम् ॥१४-१६-४१॥
yadīpsurupapannastvaṁ tasya kālo'yamāgataḥ। abhijāne ca tadahaṁ yadarthaṁ mā tvamāgataḥ ॥ acirāttu gamiṣyāmi yenāhaṁ tvāmacūcudam ॥14-16-41॥
[यदि (yadi) - if; ईप्सुः (īpsuḥ) - one desiring; उपपन्नः (upapannaḥ) - having arrived; त्वं (tvaṁ) - you; तस्य (tasya) - of that; कालः (kālaḥ) - time; अयम् (ayam) - this; आगतः (āgataḥ) - has come; अभिजाने (abhijāne) - I know; च (ca) - and; तत् (tat) - that; अहम् (aham) - I; यदर्थम् (yadartham) - for which purpose; मा (mā) - not; त्वम् (tvam) - you; आगतः (āgataḥ) - have come; अचिरात् (acirāt) - soon; तु (tu) - but; गमिष्यामि (gamiṣyāmi) - I shall go; येन (yena) - by which; अहम् (aham) - I; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; अचूचुदम् (acūcudam) - I touched;]
(If desiring, having arrived, you, of that, this time has come. I know also that I, for which purpose, not, you, have come. Soon indeed I will go, by which I, you, touched.)
If you, desiring, have come now, this is the proper time for that. I also know the purpose for which you have not come. But soon I will depart by the same way by which I touched you. (14-16-41)
भृशं प्रीतोऽस्मि भवतश्चारित्रेण विचक्षण। परिपृच्छ यावद्भवते भाषेयं यत्तवेप्सितम् ॥१४-१६-४२॥
bhṛśaṃ prīto'smi bhavataścāritreṇa vicakṣaṇa। paripṛccha yāvadbhavate bhāṣeyaṃ yattavepsitam ॥14-16-42॥
[भृशं (bhṛśam) - exceedingly; प्रीतः (prītaḥ) - pleased; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; भवतः (bhavataḥ) - with your; चारित्रेण (cāritreṇa) - conduct; विचक्षण (vicakṣaṇa) - O wise one; परिपृच्छ (paripṛccha) - ask; यावत् (yāvat) - as much as; भवते (bhavate) - to you; भाषे (bhāṣe) - I will speak; अयम् (ayam) - this; यत् (yat) - which; तव (tava) - your; इप्सितम् (ipsitam) - desired;]
(Exceedingly pleased I am with your conduct, O wise one; ask as much as to you I will speak this which your desired.)
I am exceedingly pleased with your conduct, O wise one. Ask whatever you wish, and I will speak about whatever you desire. (14-16-42)
बहु मन्ये च ते बुद्धिं भृशं सम्पूजयामि च। येनाहं भवता बुद्धो मेधावी ह्यसि काश्यप ॥१४-१६-४३॥
bahu manye ca te buddhiṃ bhṛśaṃ sampūjayāmi ca। yenāhaṃ bhavatā buddho medhāvī hyasi kāśyapa ॥14-16-43॥

(Much I consider and your intellect exceedingly I honor and. By whom I have been enlightened by you, wise indeed you are, O Kāśyapa.)
