तानाचख्यौ तदा सूतः सर्वान्नामाभिनामतः। सञ्जयो द्रौपदीं चैव सर्वाश्चान्याः कुरुस्त्रियः ॥१५-३२-४॥
tān ācakhyau tadā sūtaḥ sarvān nāmābhināmataḥ। sañjayaḥ draupadīṃ caiva sarvāś ca anyāḥ kuru-striyaḥ॥15-32-4॥

य एष जाम्बूनदशुद्धगौर; तनुर्महासिंह इव प्रवृद्धः। प्रचण्डघोणः पृथुदीर्घनेत्र; स्ताम्रायतास्यः कुरुराज एषः ॥१५-३२-५॥
ya eṣa jāmbūnadaśuddhagaur; tanurmahāsiṃha iva pravṛddhaḥ. pracaṇḍaghoṇaḥ pṛthudīrghanetra; stāmrāyatāsyaḥ kururāja eṣaḥ ॥15-32-5॥

This person, whose complexion is bright like pure gold from the Jambu river, whose body is grown like a great lion, with a fierce nose, broad and long eyes, and a reddish elongated face—this is the king of the Kurus. (15-32-5)
अयं पुनर्मत्तगजेन्द्रगामी; प्रतप्तचामीकरशुद्धगौरः। पृथ्वायतांसः पृथुदीर्घबाहु; र्वृकोदरः पश्यत पश्यतैनम् ॥१५-३२-६॥
ayaṃ punarmattagajendragāmī; prataptacāmīkaraśuddhagāuraḥ. pṛthvāyatāṃsaḥ pṛthudīrghabāhuḥ vṛkodaraḥ paśyata paśyataiṣam ॥15-32-6॥
[अयम् (ayam) - this (one); पुनः (punaḥ) - again; मत्तगजेन्द्रगामी (mattagajendra-gāmī) - who moves like an intoxicated king elephant; प्रतप्तचामीकरशुद्धगौरः (prataptacāmīkara-śuddha-gauraḥ) - whose fair (complexion) is pure as refined gold; पृथ्वायतांसः (pṛthvāyata-aṃsaḥ) - having broad and long shoulders; पृथु-दीर्घ-बाहुः (pṛthu-dīrgha-bāhuḥ) - with thick and long arms; वृकोदरः (vṛkodaraḥ) - Vṛkodara (Bhīma); पश्यत (paśyata) - look; पश्यत (paśyata) - look; एनम् (enam) - at him;]
(This again, who moves like an intoxicated king elephant; whose fair (complexion) is pure as refined gold; having broad and long shoulders, with thick and long arms; Vṛkodara—look, look at him.)
Here again is Vṛkodara, who advances like a frenzied king elephant; whose fair complexion shines pure as refined gold; with broad, long shoulders and massive, lengthy arms—look, look at him! (15-32-6)
यस्त्वेष पार्श्वेऽस्य महाधनुष्मा; ञ्श्यामो युवा वारणयूथपाभः। सिंहोन्नतांसो गजखेलगामी; पद्मायताक्षोऽर्जुन एष वीरः ॥१५-३२-७॥
yas tveṣa pārśve'sya mahādhanuṣmā; śyāmo yuvā vāraṇayūthapābhaḥ. siṃhonnatāṃso gajakhelagāmī; padmāyatākṣo'rjuna eṣa vīraḥ ॥15-32-7॥

(Who but this (one), at the side of him, possessing a great bow, dark-complexioned, young, having the appearance of a leader of elephant-herds, with lion-like raised shoulders, moving in the track of elephants, with eyes long like lotus petals—Arjuna, this hero.)
But this hero at his side, possessing a great bow, dark-complexioned, young, resembling a leader among elephants, with lion-like raised shoulders, moving among elephant troops, and with eyes like lotus petals—this is Arjuna. (15-32-7)
कुन्तीसमीपे पुरुषोत्तमौ तु; यमाविमौ विष्णुमहेन्द्रकल्पौ। मनुष्यलोके सकले समोऽस्ति; ययोर्न रूपे न बले न शीले ॥१५-३२-८॥
kuntīsāmīpe puruṣottamau tu; yamāvimau viṣṇumahaindrakalpau. manuṣyaloke sakale samo'sti; yayor na rūpe na bale na śīle ॥15-32-8॥
[कुन्ती समीपे (kuntī samīpe) - near Kuntī; पुरुषोत्तमौ (puruṣottamau) - the two best among men; तु (tu) - but; यमौ इमौ (yamau imau) - these two Yama-like; विष्णु-महेन्द्र-कल्पौ (viṣṇu-mahendra-kalpau) - equal to Viṣṇu and Mahendra (Indra); मनुष्यलोके (manuṣyaloke) - in the world of men; सकले (sakale) - in all; समः अस्ति (samaḥ asti) - equal exists; ययोः (yayor) - of both of whom; न (na) - not; रूपे (rūpe) - in form; न (na) - not; बले (bale) - in strength; न (na) - not; शीले (śīle) - in character;]
(Near Kuntī, but the two best among men, these two are like Yama, equal to Viṣṇu and Mahendra; in all the world of men, an equal exists not, to both of whom, neither in form, nor in strength, nor in character.)
Near Kuntī, these two chief men are like Yama, and equal to Viṣṇu and Indra; in the entire world of men, there is none equal to them, neither in appearance, nor strength, nor in character. (15-32-8)
इयं पुनः पद्मदलायताक्षी; मध्यं वयः किञ्चिदिव स्पृशन्ती। नीलोत्पलाभा पुरदेवतेव; कृष्णा स्थिता मूर्तिमतीव लक्ष्मीः ॥१५-३२-९॥
iyaṁ punaḥ padmadalāyatākṣī; madhyaṁ vayaḥ kiñcidiva spṛśantī. nīlotpalābhā puradevateva; kṛṣṇā sthitā mūrtimatīva lakṣmīḥ ॥15-32-9॥
[इयं (iyaṁ) - this one (feminine); पुनः (punaḥ) - again; पद्मदलायताक्षी (padmadalāyatākṣī) - having eyes long like lotus petals; मध्यं (madhyaṁ) - middle (in age); वयः (vayaḥ) - age; किञ्चितिव (kiñcidiva) - just as if a little; स्पृशन्ती (spṛśantī) - touching (feminine singular nominative present participle); नीlot्पलाभा (nīlotpalābhā) - having the complexion of a blue lotus; पुरदेवतेव (puradevateva) - like the goddess of the city; कृष्णा (kṛṣṇā) - Kṛṣṇā (proper noun, also 'dark-complexioned'); स्थितā (sthitā) - standing; मूर्तिमतीव (mūrtimatīva) - as if embodied; लक्ष्मीः (lakṣmīḥ) - Lakṣmī;]
(This one again, having eyes long like lotus petals; at the middle age (just as if a little) touching, having the complexion of a blue lotus, like the goddess of the city; Kṛṣṇā stands as if Lakṣmī embodied.)
Here again, this lady with eyes like lotus petals, just at the very flower of her youth, possessing a complexion like a blue lotus, stands as if she were the very embodiment of Lakṣmī, resembling the goddess of the city, Kṛṣṇā. (15-32-9)
अस्यास्तु पार्श्वे कनकोत्तमाभा; यैषा प्रभा मूर्तिमतीव गौरी। मध्ये स्थितैषा भगिनी द्विजाग्र्या; चक्रायुधस्याप्रतिमस्य तस्य ॥१५-३२-१०॥
asyāstu pārśve kanakottamābhā; yaiṣā prabhā mūrtimatīva gaurī. madhye sthitaiṣā bhaginī dvijāgryā; cakrāyudhasyāpratimasya tasya ॥15-32-10॥
[अस्याः (asyāḥ) - of her; तु (tu) - but; पार्श्वे (pārśve) - at the side; कनकोत्तमाभा (kanakottamābhā) - having the brilliance of excellent gold; यैषा (yaiṣā) - this (she who); प्रभा (prabhā) - radiance; मूर्तिमती (mūrtimatī) - embodied; इव (iva) - as if; गौरी (gaurī) - Fair (one); मध्ये (madhye) - in the midst; स्थित (sthita) - standing; एषा (eṣā) - she; भगिनी (bhaginī) - sister; द्विजाग्र्या (dvijāgryā) - foremost among the twice-born; चक्रायुधस्य (cakrāyudhasya) - of him who wields the discus; अप्रतिमस्य (apratimasya) - unrivalled; तस्य (tasya) - of that (one);]
(But at her side, having the brilliance of excellent gold, this radiance, as if embodied, Fair (one); in the midst stands she, the sister, foremost among the twice-born, of him who wields the discus, unrivalled, of that one.)
But at her side, the one with the radiance of the finest gold—this embodied splendor, the fair one—stands in the midst; she is the foremost among the twice-born sisters of the unrivalled wielder of the discus. (15-32-10)
इयं स्वसा राजचमूपतेस्तु; प्रवृद्धनीलोत्पलदामवर्णा। पस्पर्ध कृष्णेन नृपः सदा यो; वृकोदरस्यैष परिग्रहोऽग्र्यः ॥१५-३२-११॥
iyaṁ svasā rājacamūpates tu; pravṛddhanīlotpaladāmavarṇā. paspardha kṛṣṇena nṛpaḥ sadā yo; vṛkodarasya eṣa parigraho'gryaḥ ॥15-32-11॥

(This sister of the king, chief of the royal army, but with the color of a garland of fully grown blue lotuses, always vied with Kṛṣṇa—the king who is the excellent wife of Vṛkodara, this.)
This is the sister of the king, commander of the royal army; her complexion was like a garland of fully bloomed blue lotuses. She always rivaled Kṛṣṇa. She is the excellent wife of Vṛkodara. (15-32-11)
इयं च राज्ञो मगधाधिपस्य; सुता जरासन्ध इति श्रुतस्य। यवीयसो माद्रवतीसुतस्य; भार्या मता चम्पकदामगौरी ॥१५-३२-१२॥
iyaṃ ca rājño magadhādhipasya; sutā jarāsandha iti śrutasya. yavīyaso mādravatīsutasya; bhāryā matā campakadāmagaurī ॥15-32-12॥

इन्दीवरश्यामतनुः स्थिता तु; यैषापरासन्नमहीतले च। भार्या मता माद्रवतीसुतस्य; ज्येष्ठस्य सेयं कमलायताक्षी ॥१५-३२-१३॥

इयं तु निष्टप्तसुवर्णगौरी; राज्ञो विराटस्य सुता सपुत्रा। भार्याभिमन्योर्निहतो रणे यो; द्रोणादिभिस्तैर्विरथो रथस्थैः ॥१५-३२-१४॥
iyaṃ tu niṣṭaptasuvarṇagaurī; rājño virāṭasya sutā saputrā. bhāryābhimanyornihato raṇe yo; droṇādibhistairviratho rathasthaiḥ ॥15-32-14॥
[इयं (iyaṃ) - this (woman); तु (tu) - but; निष्टप्तसुवर्णगौरी (niṣṭapta-suvarṇa-gaurī) - having the fairness of refined gold; राज्ञः (rājñaḥ) - of the king; विराटस्य (virāṭasya) - of Virāta; सुता (sutā) - daughter; सपुत्रा (sapuṭrā) - with her son; भार्या (bhāryā) - wife; अभिमन्योर् (abhimanyor) - of Abhimanyu; निहतः (nihataḥ) - slain; रणे (raṇe) - in battle; यः (yaḥ) - who; द्रोणादिभिः (droṇādibhiḥ) - by Droṇa and others; तैः (taiḥ) - by those; विरथः (virathaḥ) - deprived of his chariot; रथस्थैः (rathasthaiḥ) - by those stationed on chariots;]
(This but, having the fairness of refined gold, of the king Virāta, daughter, with her son, wife of Abhimanyu, slain in battle, who, by Droṇa and others, by those, deprived of his chariot, by those stationed on chariots.)
This is the fair daughter of King Virāta, golden like purified gold, together with her son—the wife of Abhimanyu, who was slain in battle, deprived of his chariot, by Droṇa and others, by those fighting from their chariots. (15-32-14)
एतास्तु सीमन्तशिरोरुहा याः; शुक्लोत्तरीया नरराजपत्न्यः। राज्ञोऽस्य वृद्धस्य परंशताख्याः; स्नुषा विवीरा हतपुत्रनाथाः ॥१५-३२-१५॥
etās tu sīmantasiro-ruhā yāḥ; śuklottarīyā nararāja-patnyaḥ। rājño'sya vṛddhasya paraṃśatākhyāḥ; snuṣā vivīrā hataputra-nāthāḥ ॥15-32-15॥

एता यथामुख्यमुदाहृता वो; ब्राह्मण्यभावादृजुबुद्धिसत्त्वाः। सर्वा भवद्भिः परिपृच्छ्यमाना; नरेन्द्रपत्न्यः सुविशुद्धसत्त्वाः ॥१५-३२-१६॥

एवं स राजा कुरुवृद्धवर्यः; समागतस्तैर्नरदेवपुत्रैः। पप्रच्छ सर्वान्कुशलं तदानीं; गतेषु सर्वेष्वथ तापसेषु ॥१५-३२-१७॥

(Thus he, the king, the best among the elders of the Kurus, having come together with those princes, then asked all (about their) well-being, when all the ascetics had gone.)

योधेषु चाप्याश्रममण्डलं तं; मुक्त्वा निविष्टेषु विमुच्य पत्रम्। स्त्रीवृद्धबाले च सुसंनिविष्टे; यथार्हतः कुशलं पर्यपृच्छत् ॥१५-३२-१८॥
