Mīmāmsa Sūtra 01.01.24

उत्पत्तौ वाऽवचनाः स्युः अर्थस्यातन्निमित्तत्वात् ॥१-१-२४॥

At the time of origination, or due to non-utterances - may be, because meaning is not the cause.

(Question is posed on the sentence formed by a collection of words and its capacity to convey the same meaning, even if the words are eternal.)

ॐ असतो मा सद्गमय। तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय। मृत्योर्माऽमृतं गमय। ॐ शान्ति: शान्ति: शान्ति: ॥ - बृहदारण्यकोपनिषद् 1.3.28
