Yōga Sūtra 2.34
वितर्का हिंसादयः कृतकारितानुमोदिता लोभक्रोधमोहपूर्वका मृदुमध्याधिमात्रा दुःखाज्ञानानन्तफला इति प्रतिपक्षभावनम्।
vitarkā hiṁsādayaḥ kr̥takāritānumōditā lōbhakrōdhamōhapūrvakā mr̥dumadhyādhimātrā duḥkhājñānānantaphalā iti pratipakṣabhāvanam।
[वितर्का हिंसादयः कृत कारित अनुमोदिता लोभ क्रोध मोह पूर्वका मृदु मध्य अधिमात्रा दुःख अज्ञान अनन्त फला इति प्रतिपक्ष भावनम्।
vitarkā = illogical arguments or over thinking; hiṁsādayaḥ = violence and other defects; kr̥ta = whether done directly; kārita = performed through others; anumōditā = or instigated or influenced; lōbha = greed; krōdha = anger; mōha = delusion; pūrvakā = under the influence of; mr̥du = mild; madhya = moderate; adhimātrā = intense; duḥkha = misery; ajñāna = wrong knowledge, ignorance; ananta = endless, infinite; phalā = results / fruits; iti = hence; pratipakṣa = counter it by opposing; bhāvanam = thoughts;]
Overthinking (illogical thinking), violence and other defects, whether done directly, performed through others, or performed through influence; under the influence of greed, anger, or delusion; whether mild, moderate, or intense; results in endless pain and ignorance. Hence counter it by opposing thoughts.
