शक्रस्तु वीर्यसदृशमिध्मभारं गिरिप्रभम्। समुद्यम्यानयामास नातिकृच्छ्रादिव प्रभुः ॥१-२७-७॥

जुहुवुस्ते सुतपसो विधिवज्जातवेदसम्। मन्त्रैरुच्चावचैर्विप्रा येन कामेन तच्छृणु ॥१-२७-१२॥
juhuvuste sutapaso vidhivajjātavedasam। mantrairuccāvacairviprā yena kāmena tacchṛṇu ॥1-27-12॥

कामवीर्यः कामगमो देवराजभयप्रदः। इन्द्रोऽन्यः सर्वदेवानां भवेदिति यतव्रताः ॥१-२७-१३॥
kāmavīryaḥ kāmagamo devarājabhayapradaḥ। indro'nyah sarvadevānāṃ bhavediti yatavratāḥ ॥1-27-13॥
[कामवीर्यः (kāmavīryaḥ) - of love and strength; कामगमः (kāmagamaḥ) - attainer of desires; देवराजभयप्रदः (devarājabhayapradaḥ) - giver of fear to the king of gods; इन्द्रः (indraḥ) - Indra; अन्यः (anyaḥ) - another; सर्वदेवानां (sarvadevānāṃ) - of all gods; भवेत् (bhavet) - may become; इति (iti) - thus; यतव्रताः (yatavratāḥ) - those with controlled vows;]
(Of love and strength, attainer of desires, giver of fear to the king of gods, another Indra may become of all gods, thus those with controlled vows.)
The one who possesses the power of love and strength, who fulfills desires and instills fear in the king of gods, is considered another Indra among all gods, as those with disciplined vows believe.
इन्द्राच्छतगुणः शौर्ये वीर्ये चैव मनोजवः। तपसो नः फलेनाद्य दारुणः सम्भवत्विति ॥१-२७-१४॥
indrācchataguṇaḥ śaurye vīrye caiva manojavaḥ। tapaso naḥ phalenādya dāruṇaḥ sambhavatviti ॥1-27-14॥
[इन्द्रात् (indrāt) - than Indra; शतगुणः (śataguṇaḥ) - hundred times more; शौर्ये (śaurye) - in valor; वीर्ये (vīrye) - in strength; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; मनोजवः (manojavaḥ) - speed of mind; तपसः (tapasaḥ) - of penance; नः (naḥ) - our; फलेन (phalena) - by the fruit; अद्य (adya) - today; दारुणः (dāruṇaḥ) - terrible; सम्भवत्विति (sambhavatviti) - let it be born;]
(Than Indra, hundred times more in valor, in strength, and indeed with the speed of mind. By the fruit of our penance today, let the terrible one be born.)
Let the one who is a hundred times more valorous and stronger than Indra, and who possesses the speed of mind, be born today as a result of our penance.
तद्बुद्ध्वा भृशसन्तप्तो देवराजः शतक्रतुः। जगाम शरणं तत्र कश्यपं संशितव्रतम् ॥१-२७-१५॥
tadbud'dhvā bhṛśasantapto devarājaḥ śatakratuḥ। jagāma śaraṇaṃ tatra kaśyapaṃ saṃśitavratam ॥1-27-15॥
[तत् (tad) - that; बुद्ध्वा (bud'dhvā) - having understood; भृश (bhṛśa) - intensely; सन्तप्तः (santaptaḥ) - distressed; देवराजः (devarājaḥ) - the king of gods; शतक्रतुः (śatakratuḥ) - Indra; जगाम (jagāma) - went; शरणम् (śaraṇam) - refuge; तत्र (tatra) - there; कश्यपम् (kaśyapam) - to Kashyapa; संशितव्रतम् (saṃśitavratam) - of firm vows;]
(Having understood that, the king of gods, Indra, intensely distressed, went there to take refuge in Kashyapa of firm vows.)
Realizing the situation, the greatly troubled king of gods, Indra, sought refuge with Kashyapa, who was steadfast in his vows.
तच्छ्रुत्वा देवराजस्य कश्यपोऽथ प्रजापतिः। वालखिल्यानुपागम्य कर्मसिद्धिमपृच्छत ॥१-२७-१६॥
tacchrutvā devarājasya kaśyapo'tha prajāpatiḥ। vālakhilyānupāgamya karmasiddhimapṛcchat ॥1-27-16॥
[तत् (tat) - that; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; देवराजस्य (devarājasya) - of the king of gods; कश्यपः (kaśyapaḥ) - Kaśyapa; अथ (atha) - then; प्रजापतिः (prajāpatiḥ) - the lord of creatures; वालखिल्यान् (vālakhilyān) - the Vālakhilyas; उपागम्य (upāgamya) - approaching; कर्मसिद्धिम् (karmasiddhim) - the accomplishment of the task; अपृच्छत (apṛcchat) - asked;]
(Having heard that, Kaśyapa, the lord of creatures, then approached the Vālakhilyas and asked about the accomplishment of the task.)
Upon hearing this, Kaśyapa, the progenitor, approached the Vālakhilyas and inquired about the success of their task.
एवमस्त्विति तं चापि प्रत्यूचुः सत्यवादिनः। तान्कश्यप उवाचेदं सान्त्वपूर्वं प्रजापतिः ॥१-२७-१७॥
evam astv iti taṃ cāpi pratyūcuḥ satyavādinaḥ। tān kaśyapa uvācedaṃ sāntvapūrvaṃ prajāpatiḥ ॥1-27-17॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; अस्तु (astu) - let it be; इति (iti) - thus; तम् (tam) - him; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; प्रत्यूचुः (pratyūcuḥ) - replied; सत्यवादिनः (satyavādinaḥ) - truth-speakers; तान् (tān) - to them; कश्यपः (kaśyapaḥ) - Kaśyapa; उवाच (uvāca) - said; इदम् (idam) - this; सान्त्वपूर्वम् (sāntvapūrvam) - with conciliation; प्रजापतिः (prajāpatiḥ) - the lord of creatures;]
(Thus, let it be, they also replied to him, the truth-speakers. To them, Kaśyapa, the lord of creatures, said this with conciliation.)
The truth-speakers replied to him, "Let it be so." Then Kaśyapa, the lord of creatures, addressed them with words of conciliation.
अयमिन्द्रस्त्रिभुवने नियोगाद्ब्रह्मणः कृतः। इन्द्रार्थं च भवन्तोऽपि यत्नवन्तस्तपोधनाः ॥१-२७-१८॥
ayam indras tribhuvane niyogād brahmaṇaḥ kṛtaḥ। indrārthaṃ ca bhavanto'pi yatnavantas tapodhanāḥ ॥1-27-18॥
[अयम् (ayam) - this; इन्द्रः (indraḥ) - Indra; त्रिभुवने (tribhuvane) - in the three worlds; नियोगात् (niyogāt) - by the command; ब्रह्मणः (brahmaṇaḥ) - of Brahma; कृतः (kṛtaḥ) - made; इन्द्रार्थं (indrārtham) - for Indra's sake; च (ca) - and; भवन्तः (bhavantaḥ) - you all; अपि (api) - also; यत्नवन्तः (yatnavantaḥ) - diligent; तपोधनाः (tapodhanāḥ) - sages;]
(This Indra was made in the three worlds by the command of Brahma. For Indra's sake, you all, the diligent sages, also (act).)

न मिथ्या ब्रह्मणो वाक्यं कर्तुमर्हथ सत्तमाः। भवतां च न मिथ्यायं सङ्कल्पो मे चिकीर्षितः ॥१-२७-१९॥
na mithyā brahmaṇo vākyaṃ kartumarhatha sattamāḥ। bhavatāṃ ca na mithyāyaṃ saṅkalpo me cikīrṣitaḥ ॥1-27-19॥
[न (na) - not; मिथ्या (mithyā) - false; ब्रह्मणः (brahmaṇaḥ) - of Brahma; वाक्यं (vākyaṃ) - word; कर्तुम् (kartum) - to do; अर्हथ (arhatha) - you should; सत्तमाः (sattamāḥ) - O best ones; भवतां (bhavatāṃ) - of you; च (ca) - and; न (na) - not; मिथ्या (mithyā) - false; अयम् (ayam) - this; सङ्कल्पः (saṅkalpaḥ) - resolve; मे (me) - my; चिकीर्षितः (cikīrṣitaḥ) - intended;]

भवत्वेष पतत्रीणामिन्द्रोऽतिबलसत्त्ववान्। प्रसादः क्रियतां चैव देवराजस्य याचतः ॥१-२७-२०॥
bhavatveṣa patatrīṇāmindro'tibalasattvavān। prasādaḥ kriyatāṃ caiva devarājasya yācataḥ ॥1-27-20॥
[भवतु (bhavatu) - let it be; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this; पतत्रीणाम् (patatrīṇām) - of the birds; इन्द्रः (indraḥ) - Indra; अतिबलसत्त्ववान् (atibalasattvavān) - very powerful and virtuous; प्रसादः (prasādaḥ) - grace; क्रियताम् (kriyatām) - be done; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; देवराजस्य (devarājasya) - of the king of gods; याचतः (yācataḥ) - of the one who is asking;]

एवमुक्ताः कश्यपेन वालखिल्यास्तपोधनाः। प्रत्यूचुरभिसम्पूज्य मुनिश्रेष्ठं प्रजापतिम् ॥१-२७-२१॥

[एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्ताः (uktāḥ) - spoken; कश्यपेन (kaśyapena) - by Kashyapa; वालखिल्याः (vālakhilyāḥ) - Valakhilyas; तपोधनाः (tapodhanāḥ) - ascetics; प्रत्यूचुः (pratyūcuḥ) - replied; अभिसम्पूज्य (abhisampūjya) - after honoring; मुनिश्रेष्ठम् (muniśreṣṭham) - the best of sages; प्रजापतिम् (prajāpatim) - the lord of creatures;]
(Thus spoken by Kashyapa, the Valakhilyas, ascetics, replied after honoring the best of sages, the lord of creatures.)
After being addressed by Kashyapa, the Valakhilya sages, who were ascetics, respectfully replied to the eminent sage and lord of creatures.
इन्द्रार्थोऽयं समारम्भः सर्वेषां नः प्रजापते। अपत्यार्थं समारम्भो भवतश्चायमीप्सितः ॥१-२७-२२॥
indrārtho'yaṃ samārambhaḥ sarveṣāṃ naḥ prajāpate। apatyārthaṃ samārambho bhavataścāyamīpsitaḥ ॥1-27-22॥

(By these two, no fault will be from you, Purandara. Let your sorrow go, Shakra; you will indeed become Indra.)

(And thus, the speakers of Brahman are not to be insulted again by you; nor should they be disrespected out of your arrogance with poisonous words, very angry.)

(Thus spoken, Indra went fearlessly to heaven. Vinata also became successful and happy then.)

[जनयामास (janayāmāsa) - produced; पुत्रौ (putrau) - sons; द्वा (dvā) - two; वरुणं (varuṇaṃ) - Varuna; गरुडं (garuḍaṃ) - Garuda; तथा (tathā) - and; अरुणः (aruṇaḥ) - Aruna; तयोः (tayoḥ) - of them; तु (tu) - but; विकलः (vikalaḥ) - imperfect; आदित्यस्य (ādityasya) - of Aditya; पुरःसरः (puraḥsaraḥ) - charioteer;]
(Produced two sons, Varuna and Garuda. Aruna, of them, but imperfect, was the charioteer of Aditya.)

(But Garuda was anointed as the lord of birds. This very great act of his may be heard, O descendant of Bhrigu.)
