icchāmi tvāṃ varārohe bhajamānāmanindite। tvadarthaṃ māṃ sthitaṃ viddhi tvadgataṃ hi mano mama ॥1-67-6॥

(I desire you, O beautiful and faultless one, worshipping. Know me as situated for you, indeed my mind is directed towards you.)
I long for you, O beautiful and faultless lady, who is worshipped. Know that I am here for you, as my mind is indeed focused on you.
आत्मनो बन्धुरात्मैव गतिरात्मैव चात्मनः। आत्मनैवात्मनो दानं कर्तुमर्हसि धर्मतः ॥१-६७-७॥
ātmano bandhuraatmaiva gatiraatmaiva caātmanaḥ। ātmanaivātmano dānaṃ kartumarhasi dharmataḥ ॥1-67-7॥

(Of oneself, the friend is only the self, the goal is only the self, and of oneself, by oneself only, the gift should be done righteously.)
One's own self is truly one's friend and goal. Therefore, by oneself, one should righteously give of oneself.
अष्टावेव समासेन विवाहा धर्मतः स्मृताः। ब्राह्मो दैवस्तथैवार्षः प्राजापत्यस्तथासुरः ॥१-६७-८॥
aṣṭāveva samāsena vivāhā dharmataḥ smṛtāḥ| brāhmo daivastathaivārṣaḥ prājāpatyastathāsuraḥ ॥1-67-8॥

(Demonic and demonic indeed are not to be done in any way. By this method, the path of dharma is considered to be done.)
Demonic acts and those of demons should never be performed. This method is considered the path of righteousness.
गान्धर्वराक्षसौ क्षत्रे धर्म्यौ तौ मा विशङ्किथाः। पृथग्वा यदि वा मिश्रौ कर्तव्यौ नात्र संशयः ॥१-६७-१३॥
gāndharvarākṣasau kṣatre dharmyau tau mā viśaṅkithāḥ| pṛthagvā yadi vā miśrau kartavyau nātra saṃśayaḥ ॥1-67-13॥
[गान्धर्वराक्षसौ (gāndharvarākṣasau) - Gandharva and Rakshasa; क्षत्रे (kṣatre) - in the Kshatriya; धर्म्यौ (dharmyau) - righteous; तौ (tau) - those two; मा (mā) - do not; विशङ्किथाः (viśaṅkithāḥ) - doubt; पृथग्वा (pṛthagvā) - separately; यदि (yadi) - if; वा (vā) - or; मिश्रौ (miśrau) - together; कर्तव्यौ (kartavyau) - to be done; न (na) - not; अत्र (atra) - here; संशयः (saṃśayaḥ) - doubt;]
(Gandharva and Rakshasa in the Kshatriya are righteous; those two do not doubt. Separately or together, they are to be done; here is no doubt.)

सा त्वं मम सकामस्य सकामा वरवर्णिनि। गान्धर्वेण विवाहेन भार्या भवितुमर्हसि ॥१-६७-१४॥
sā tvaṃ mama sakāmasya sakāmā varavarṇini। gāndharveṇa vivāhena bhāryā bhavitumarhasi ॥1-67-14॥
[सा (sā) - she; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; मम (mama) - my; सकामस्य (sakāmasya) - of the desirous one; सकामा (sakāmā) - desirous; वरवर्णिनि (varavarṇini) - O beautiful one; गान्धर्वेण (gāndharveṇa) - by Gandharva; विवाहेन (vivāhena) - by marriage; भार्या (bhāryā) - wife; भवितुम् (bhavitum) - to become; अर्हसि (arhasi) - you deserve;]
(She, you, my desirous one, desirous, O beautiful one, by Gandharva marriage, wife to become you deserve.)

yadi dharmapathastveṣa yadi cātmā prabhurmama। pradāne pauravaśreṣṭha śṛṇu me samayaṃ prabho ॥1-67-15॥

(If this is the path of righteousness and my soul is the lord, O best of the Pauravas, listen to my promise, O lord.)

एवमस्त्विति तां राजा प्रत्युवाचाविचारयन्। अपि च त्वां नयिष्यामि नगरं स्वं शुचिस्मिते ॥ यथा त्वमर्हा सुश्रोणि सत्यमेतद्ब्रवीमि ते ॥१-६७-१८॥
evam astv iti tāṃ rājā pratyuvāca avicārayan। api ca tvāṃ nayiṣyāmi nagaraṃ svaṃ śucismite ॥ yathā tvam arhā suśroṇi satyam etad bravīmi te ॥1-67-18॥

(Thus, let it be, the king replied to her without thinking. Also, I will take you to my own city, O pure-smiled one, as you deserve, O beautiful-hipped one. Truly, I say this to you.)
The king, without much thought, agreed and said to her, "Indeed, I will take you to my city, O lady with a pure smile, as you truly deserve, O lady with beautiful hips. I sincerely mean this."
एवमुक्त्वा स राजर्षिस्तामनिन्दितगामिनीम्। जग्राह विधिवत्पाणावुवास च तया सह ॥१-६७-१९॥
evamuktvā sa rājarṣistāmaninditagāminīm। jagrāha vidhivatpāṇāvuvāsa ca tayā saha ॥1-67-19॥

(Thus having spoken, the royal sage took the blameless lady by the hand duly and dwelt together with her.)
Thus, after speaking, the royal sage took the blameless lady by the hand in the proper manner and lived with her.
विश्वास्य चैनां स प्रायादब्रवीच्च पुनः पुनः। प्रेषयिष्ये तवार्थाय वाहिनीं चतुरङ्गिणीम् ॥ तया त्वामानयिष्यामि निवासं स्वं शुचिस्मिते ॥१-६७-२०॥

The Lord, absorbed in penance, pondered over 'What indeed will he do?' and thus, while contemplating, he entered his own city.
मुहूर्तयाते तस्मिंस्तु कण्वोऽप्याश्रममागमत्। शकुन्तला च पितरं ह्रिया नोपजगाम तम् ॥१-६७-२३॥
muhūrtayāte tasmiṃstu kaṇvo'pyāśramamāgamat। śakuntalā ca pitaraṃ hriyā nopajagāma tam ॥1-67-23॥

Then, having realized her true nature, the sage Kaṇva, endowed with divine insight and great penance, spoke with satisfaction, perceiving with his divine vision.
त्वयाद्य राजान्वयया मामनादृत्य यत्कृतः। पुंसा सह समायोगो न स धर्मोपघातकः ॥१-६७-२५॥
tvayādya rājānvyayā māmanādṛtya yatkṛtaḥ। puṃsā saha samāyogo na sa dharmopaghātakaḥ ॥1-67-25॥

kṣatriyasya hi gāndharvo vivāhaḥ śreṣṭha ucyate। sakāmāyāḥ sakāmena nirmantro rahasi smṛtaḥ ॥1-67-26॥
