Core-Pancharatra:Vyasa's visit and advice to stay at Ekachakra.
vaiśampāyana uvāca॥
Vaiśampāyana said:
te vanena vanaṁ vīrā ghnanto mṛga-gaṇān bahūn। apakramya yayū rājan tvaramāṇā mahā-rathāḥ॥1॥
Those heroic great chariot-warriors, slaying many groups of deer, proceeded from one forest to another with haste, O King.
matsyāṁs trigartān pāñcālān kīcakān antaraṇa ca। ramaṇīyān vana-uddeśān prekṣamāṇāḥ sarāṁsi ca॥2॥
Passing through the lands of the Matsyas, Trigartas, Pāñcālas, and Kīcakas, they beheld many beautiful forest regions and lakes.
jaṭāḥ kṛtvātmanaḥ sarve valkala-ājina-vāsasaḥ। saha kuntyā mahātmāno bibhrataḥ tāpasaṁ vapuḥ॥3॥
All of them, with Kuntī, adopted matted locks, wore bark and deer-skin garments, and took on the appearance of ascetics.
kvacid vahanto jananīṁ tvaramāṇā mahā-rathāḥ। kvacit chandena gacchantas te jagmuḥ prasabhaṁ punaḥ॥4॥
Sometimes those great warriors carried their mother in haste, sometimes walked at their own pace — thus they moved forward with determination.
brāhmaṁ vedam adhīyānā vedāṅgāni ca sarvaśaḥ। nīti-śāstraṁ ca dharma-jñā dadṛśus te pitāmaham॥5॥
They, studying the Vedas and all its auxiliaries as well as the science of ethics and being knowers of dharma, saw their grandsire.
te'bhivādya mahātmānaṁ kṛṣṇa-dvaipāyanaṁ tadā। tasthuḥ prāñjalayaḥ sarve saha mātrā parantapāḥ॥6॥
Having bowed to the great soul Kṛṣṇa Dvaipāyana, all of them, scorcher of foes, stood with joined palms along with their mother.
vyāsa uvāca॥
Vyāsa said:
mayedaṁ manasā pūrvaṁ viditaṁ bharatarṣabhāḥ। yathā sthitair adharmeṇa dhārtarāṣṭrair vivāsitāḥ॥7॥
O best of Bharatas, I had previously known in my mind how, being set in unrighteousness, the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra would exile you.
tad viditvā asmi samprāptaḥ cikīrṣuḥ paramaṁ hitam। na viṣādo'tra kartavyaḥ sarvam etat sukhāya vaḥ॥8॥
Knowing that, I have come now, desiring your supreme welfare. Do not grieve — all this shall be for your happiness.
samās te caiva me sarve yūyaṁ caiva na saṁśayaḥ। dīnato bālataś caiva snehaṁ kurvanti bāndhavāḥ॥9॥
All of you are equally dear to me, no doubt. Relatives show affection due to helplessness or youth.
tasmād abhyadhikaḥ sneho yuṣmāsu mama sāmpratam। sneha-pūrvaṁ cikīrṣāmi hitaṁ vas tan nibodhata॥10॥
Therefore, my affection for you is now even greater. I desire to do what is good for you with affection — understand this well.
idaṁ nagaram abhyāśe ramaṇīyaṁ nirāmayam। vasateha praticchannā mamāgamana-kāṅkṣiṇaḥ॥11॥
This city nearby is delightful and free from trouble. Here, in concealment, those who await my arrival reside.
vaiśampāyana uvāca॥
Vaiśampāyana said:
evaṁ sa tān samāśvāsya vyāsaḥ pārthān ariṁdamān। ekacakrām abhigataḥ kuntīm āśvāsayat prabhuḥ॥12॥
Thus having consoled the sons of Pṛthā, the subduers of foes, Vyāsa the master went to Ekacakrā and consoled Kuntī.
jīva-putri sutas te'yaṁ dharma-putro yudhiṣṭhiraḥ। pṛthivyāṁ pārthivān sarvān praśāsiṣyati dharma-rāṭ॥13॥
Live, O mother of sons! This son of yours, Yudhiṣṭhira, born of Dharma, will rule over all kings on earth as a righteous king.
dharmeṇa jitvā pṛthivīm akhilāṁ dharma-vid vaśī। bhīmasena-arjuna-balāt bhokṣyaty ayam asaṁśayaḥ॥14॥
This knower of dharma will righteously conquer the entire earth and, through the strength of Bhīma and Arjuna, will surely enjoy it.
putrās tava ca mādryāś ca sarva eva mahā-rathāḥ। sva-rāṣṭre vihariṣyanti sukhaṁ sumanasas tadā॥15॥
Your sons and those of Mādrī, all great warriors, will happily live in their own kingdom with content minds.
yakṣyanti ca nara-vyāghrā vijitya pṛthivīm imām। rājasūya-aśvamedha-ādyaiḥ kratu-bhiḥ bhūri-dakṣiṇaiḥ॥16॥
Having conquered the earth, those tiger-like men will perform Rājasūya, Aśvamedha, and other grand sacrifices with abundant gifts.
anugṛhya suhṛd-vargaṁ dhanena ca sukhena ca। pitṛ-paitāmahaṁ rājyam iha bhokṣyanti te sutāḥ॥17॥
Having favored their friends with wealth and happiness, your sons will enjoy here the ancestral kingdom of their fathers and grandfathers.
evam uktvā niveśyainān brāhmaṇasya niveśane। abravīt pārthiva-śreṣṭham ṛṣir dvaipāyanaḥ tadā॥18॥
Having said thus and settled them in a brāhmaṇa’s house, the sage Dvaipāyana then spoke to the best of kings.
iha māṁ sampratīkṣadhvam āgamiṣyāmy ahaṁ punaḥ। deśa-kālau viditvā eva vetsyadhvaṁ paramāṁ mudam॥19॥
Wait for me here; I shall return again. Knowing the proper place and time, you shall attain supreme joy.
sa taiḥ prāñjalibhiḥ sarvaiḥ tathety ukto narādhipa। jagāma bhagavān vyāso yathākāmaṁ ṛṣiḥ prabhuḥ॥20॥
Then, having been addressed with folded hands by all with "so be it," the divine sage Vyāsa departed as he desired, O king.
