सा तु कन्या महाराज ब्राह्मणं संशितव्रतम्। तोषयामास शुद्धेन मनसा संशितव्रता ॥०३-२८९-१॥
sā tu kanyā mahārāja brāhmaṇaṁ saṁśitavratam। toṣayāmāsa śuddhena manasā saṁśitavratā ॥03-289-1॥
[सा (sā) - she; तु (tu) - but; कन्या (kanyā) - maiden; महाराज (mahārāja) - O great king; ब्राह्मणम् (brāhmaṇam) - Brāhmaṇa; संशितव्रतम् (saṁśitavratam) - of firm vow; तोषयामास (toṣayāmāsa) - she gratified; शुद्धेन (śuddhena) - with pure; मनसा (manasā) - mind; संशितव्रता (saṁśitavratā) - (she being) firm in vow;]
(She but maiden O great king Brāhmaṇa of firm vow she gratified with pure mind (she being) firm in vow.)
But she, the maiden, O great king, being herself firm in vow, gratified the Brāhmaṇa of firm vow with a pure mind. (03-289-1)
प्रातरायास्य इत्युक्त्वा कदाचिद्द्विजसत्तमः। तत आयाति राजेन्द्र साये रात्रावथो पुनः ॥०३-२८९-२॥
prātar-āyāsya ity uktvā kadācid dvija-sattamaḥ। tata āyāti rājeṃdra sāye rātrāv atho punaḥ॥03-289-2॥
[प्रातर् (prātar) - in the morning; आयास्य (āyāsya) - I will come; इति (iti) - thus; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having spoken; कदाचित् (kadācit) - once; द्विजसत्तमः (dvija-sattamaḥ) - the best among Brāhmaṇas; तत् (tat) - then; आयाति (āyāti) - he comes; राजेन्द्र (rājeṃdra) - O king; साये (sāye) - in the evening; रात्रौ (rātrau) - at night; अथः (atho) - then; पुनः (punaḥ) - again;]
(In the morning, 'I will come'—thus speaking, once the best among Brāhmaṇas; then comes, O king, in the evening, at night, then again.)
Saying in the morning, 'I will come,' once the best of Brāhmaṇas, he comes, O king, in the evening, at night, and again. (03-289-2)
तं च सर्वासु वेलासु भक्ष्यभोज्यप्रतिश्रयैः। पूजयामास सा कन्या वर्धमानैस्तु सर्वदा ॥०३-२८९-३॥
taṁ ca sarvāsu velāsu bhakṣyabhojyapratiśrayaiḥ। pūjayām āsa sā kanyā vardhamānais tu sarvadā॥03-289-3॥
[तं (taṁ) - him; च (ca) - and; सर्वासु (sarvāsu) - in all; वेलासु (velāsu) - times; भक्ष्यभोज्यप्रतिश्रयैः (bhakṣya-bhojya-pratiśrayaiḥ) - with eatables, food, and shelter; पूजयामास (pūjayām āsa) - honored; सा (sā) - she; कन्या (kanyā) - maiden; वर्धमानैः (vardhamānaiḥ) - increasing; तु (tu) - but; सर्वदा (sarvadā) - always;]
(Him and at all times with eatables, foods, and shelters honored she maiden with increasing but always.)
And she, the maiden, always honored him at all times with ever-increasing eatables, foods, and shelter. (03-289-3)
अन्नादिसमुदाचारः शय्यासनकृतस्तथा। दिवसे दिवसे तस्य वर्धते न तु हीयते ॥०३-२८९-४॥
annādisamudācāraḥ śayyāsanakṛtastathā। divase divase tasya vardhate na tu hīyate॥03-289-4॥
[अन्नादिसमुदाचारः (annādi-samudācāraḥ) - observance concerning food and the like; शय्यासनकृतः (śayyāsana-kṛtaḥ) - arrangement of bed and seat; तथा (tathā) - thus; दिवसे दिवसे (divase divase) - day by day; तस्य (tasya) - his; वर्धते (vardhate) - increases; न तु (na tu) - but not; हीयते (hīyate) - decreases;]
(Observance concerning food and the like, arrangement of bed and seat, thus, day by day, his increases, but not decreases.)
His observances regarding food and such matters, and the arrangement of his bed and seat, thus, increase day by day, but do not decrease. (03-289-4)
निर्भर्त्सनापवादैश्च तथैवाप्रियया गिरा। ब्राह्मणस्य पृथा राजन्न चकाराप्रियं तदा ॥०३-२८९-५॥
nirbhartsanāpavādaiś ca tathaivāpriyayā girā। brāhmaṇasya pṛthā rājann cakārāpriyaṃ tadā ॥03-289-5॥
[निर्भर्त्सनापवादैः (nirbhartsanāpavādaiḥ) - with reproach and blame; च (ca) - and; तथैव (tathaiva) - in the same way; अप्रियया (apriyayā) - with unpleasant; गिरा (girā) - words; ब्राह्मणस्य (brāhmaṇasya) - of the brāhmaṇa; पृथा (pṛthā) - Pṛthā (Kuntī); राजन् (rājan) - O king; चकार (cakāra) - did; अप्रियं (apriyaṃ) - unpleasant; तदा (tadā) - at that time;]
(With reproach and blame and in the same way with unpleasant words, Pṛthā, O king, did unpleasant (acts) to the brāhmaṇa at that time.)
O king, at that time, Kuntī (Pṛthā), with reproaches, blame, and unpleasant words, did what was displeasing to the brāhmaṇa. (03-289-5)
व्यस्ते काले पुनश्चैति न चैति बहुशो द्विजः। दुर्लभ्यमपि चैवान्नं दीयतामिति सोऽब्रवीत् ॥०३-२८९-६॥
vyaste kāle punaś caiti na caiti bahuśo dvijaḥ। durlabhyam api ca eva annaṃ dīyatām iti saḥ abravīt॥03-289-6॥
[व्यस्ते (vyaste) - disordered; काले (kāle) - in time; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; च (ca) - and; एति (aiti) - comes; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; एति (aiti) - comes; बहुशः (bahuśaḥ) - often; द्विजः (dvijaḥ) - the twice-born; दुर्लभ्यम् (durlabhyam) - difficult to attain; अपि (api) - even; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; अन्नम् (annam) - food; दीयताम् (dīyatām) - let it be given; इति (iti) - thus; सः (saḥ) - he; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said;]
(In disordered time, again he comes and does not come often, the twice-born. Even if food is difficult to attain, indeed let it be given—thus he said. (03-289-6))
At a disordered time, the twice-born often comes and sometimes does not come. Even if food is hard to obtain, it should indeed be given—thus he said. (03-289-6)
कृतमेव च तत्सर्वं पृथा तस्मै न्यवेदयत्। शिष्यवत्पुत्रवच्चैव स्वसृवच्च सुसंयता ॥०३-२८९-७॥
kṛtameva ca tatsarvaṃ pṛthā tasmai nyavedayat। śiṣyavatputravaccaiva svasṛvacc susaṃyatā ॥03-289-7॥
[कृतम् (kṛtam) - done; accomplished; एव (eva) - indeed; surely; only; च (ca) - and; तत् (tat) - that; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; पृथा (pṛthā) - Pṛthā (proper noun; person name); तस्मै (tasmai) - to him; न्यवेदयत् (nyavedayat) - she reported; she communicated; शिष्यवत् (śiṣya-vat) - like a disciple; पुत्रवत् (putra-vat) - like a son; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; स्वसृवत् (svasṛ-vat) - like a sister; च (ca) - and; सुसंयता (susaṃyatā) - well restrained; well controlled;]
(Pṛthā indeed and all that done to him she reported; like a disciple, like a son, and indeed like a sister, and well restrained.)
Pṛthā, being well disciplined, reported to him everything that had been done, with the regard one would show a disciple, a son, and even a sister. (03-289-7)
यथोपजोषं राजेन्द्र द्विजातिप्रवरस्य सा। प्रीतिमुत्पादयामास कन्या यत्नैरनिन्दिता ॥०३-२८९-८॥
yathopajoṣaṃ rājendra dvijātipravarasya sā। prītim utpādayām āsa kanyā yatnair aninditā ॥03-289-8॥
[यथोपजोषं (yathopajoṣam) - as suitable; as was agreeable; राजेन्द्र (rājendra) - O king; O chief of kings; द्विजातिप्रवरस्य (dvijātipravarasya) - of the best of the twice-born; of the foremost Brāhmaṇa; सा (sā) - that (woman); she; प्रीतिम् (prītim) - affection; love; उत्पादयाम् आस (utpādayām āsa) - caused to arise; generated; कन्या (kanyā) - the maiden; girl; यत्नैः (yatnaiḥ) - with efforts; through endeavors; अनिन्दिता (aninditā) - blameless; faultless;]
(As suitable, O king, for the best among the twice-born, she caused affection to arise, the maiden, with efforts, blameless.)
The blameless maiden, with every effort, aroused love for the foremost of the twice-born, as was appropriate, O king. (03-289-8)
तस्यास्तु शीलवृत्तेन तुतोष द्विजसत्तमः। अवधानेन भूयोऽस्य परं यत्नमथाकरोत् ॥०३-२८९-९॥
tasyāstu śīlavṛttena tutoṣa dvijasattamaḥ। avadhānena bhūyo'sya paraṃ yatnam athākarot ॥03-289-9॥
[तस्याः (tasyāḥ) - of her; तु (tu) - but; शीलवृत्तेन (śīlavṛttena) - by conduct and character; तुतोष (tutoṣa) - was satisfied; द्विजसत्तमः (dvijasattamaḥ) - the best among Brahmins; अवधानेन (avadhānena) - with attention; भूयः (bhūyaḥ) - again; अस्य (asya) - for him; परम् (param) - great; यत्नम् (yatnam) - effort; अथ (atha) - then; अकरोत् (akarot) - made;]
(Of her but by conduct and character, the best among Brahmins was satisfied; with attention again for him, great effort then he made.)
The best among Brahmins was indeed satisfied with her conduct and character; then, with greater attention, he made even more effort for him. (03-289-9)
तां प्रभाते च साये च पिता पप्रच्छ भारत। अपि तुष्यति ते पुत्रि ब्राह्मणः परिचर्यया ॥०३-२८९-१०॥
tāṁ prabhāte ca sāye ca pitā papraccha bhārata। api tuṣyati te putri brāhmaṇaḥ paricaryayā ॥03-289-10॥
[तां (tāṁ) - her; (accusative singular, feminine); प्रभाते (prabhāte) - at dawn; (locative singular, neuter); च (ca) - and; साये (sāye) - at dusk; (locative singular, neuter); च (ca) - and; पिता (pitā) - father; पप्रच्छ (papraccha) - asked; (3rd person singular, past perfect); भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata; (vocative); अपि (api) - whether; तुष्यति (tuṣyati) - is pleased; ते (te) - your; (genitive singular, feminine); पुत्रि (putri) - daughter; (vocative singular, feminine); ब्राह्मणः (brāhmaṇaḥ) - brāhmaṇa; (nominative singular, masculine); परिचर्यया (paricaryayā) - by service; (instrumental singular, feminine);]
(Her, at dawn and at dusk, the father asked, O Bhārata: "Is the brāhmaṇa pleased by your service, daughter?" (03-289-10))
At dawn and dusk, her father asked her, O Bhārata: "Daughter, is the brāhmaṇa pleased with your service?" (03-289-10)
तं सा परममित्येव प्रत्युवाच यशस्विनी। ततः प्रीतिमवापाग्र्यां कुन्तिभोजो महामनाः ॥०३-२८९-११॥
taṃ sā paramamityeva pratyuvāca yaśasvinī। tataḥ prītim avāpāgryāṃ kuntibhojo mahāmanāḥ ॥03-289-11॥
[तं (taṃ) - him; सा (sā) - she; परममिति एव (paramam iti eva) - ‘supreme’, thus, indeed; प्रत्युवाच (pratyuvāca) - replied; यशस्विनी (yaśasvinī) - the glorious one; ततः (tataḥ) - then; प्रीतिम् (prītim) - joy; अवाप (avāpa) - attained; आग्र्यां (āgryāṃ) - supreme; कुन्तिभोजः (kuntibhojaḥ) - Kuntibhoja; महामनाः (mahāmanāḥ) - great-minded;]
(Him she, ‘supreme’, thus indeed, replied, the glorious one. Then joy supreme attained Kuntibhoja, great-minded.)
She, the glorious one, replied to him only by saying 'supreme'. Then Kuntibhoja, the great-minded, attained supreme joy. (03-289-11)
ततः संवत्सरे पूर्णे यदासौ जपतां वरः। नापश्यद्दुष्कृतं किञ्चित्पृथायाः सौहृदे रतः ॥०३-२८९-१२॥
tataḥ saṁvatsare pūrṇe yadāsau japatāṁ varaḥ। nāpaśyad duṣkṛtaṁ kiñcit pṛthāyāḥ sauhṛde rataḥ॥03-289-12॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; संवत्सरे (saṁvatsare) - in the year; पूर्णे (pūrṇe) - completed; यदा (yadā) - when; असौ (asau) - he; जपतां (japatām) - of those who recite (japa); वरः (varaḥ) - the best; न (na) - not; अपश्यत् (apaśyat) - (he) saw; दुष्कृतं (duṣkṛtam) - misdeed; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - any; पृथायाः (pṛthāyāḥ) - of Pṛthā; सौहृदे (sauhṛde) - in affection; रतः (rataḥ) - engaged;]
(Then, in the year when it was completed, that best among those who recite (japa), he saw not any misdeed, being engaged in affection of Pṛthā.)
Then, when the year was completed, that best among those who recite japa, engaged in Pṛthā's affection, saw no misdeed whatsoever. (03-289-12)
ततः प्रीतमना भूत्वा स एनां ब्राह्मणोऽब्रवीत्। प्रीतोऽस्मि परमं भद्रे परिचारेण ते शुभे ॥०३-२८९-१३॥
tataḥ prītamanā bhūtvā sa enāṃ brāhmaṇo'bravīt। prīto'smi paramaṃ bhadre paricāreṇa te śubhe ॥03-289-13॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; प्रीतमना (prīta-manā) - with pleased mind; भूत्वा (bhūtvā) - having become; सः (saḥ) - he; एनाम् (enām) - her; ब्राह्मणः (brāhmaṇaḥ) - the Brāhmaṇa; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; प्रीतः (prītaḥ) - pleased; अस्मि (asmi) - am; परमम् (paramam) - supremely; भद्रे (bhadre) - O auspicious lady; परिचारेण (paricāreṇa) - by service; ते (te) - your; शुभे (śubhe) - O auspicious one;]
(Then, having become with a pleased mind, he, the Brāhmaṇa, said to her. Pleased am I supremely, O auspicious lady, by your service, O auspicious one.)
Then, with a pleased mind, the Brāhmaṇa spoke to her: "I am supremely pleased, O auspicious lady, by your service, O auspicious one." (03-289-13)
वरान्वृणीष्व कल्याणि दुरापान्मानुषैरिह। यैस्त्वं सीमन्तिनीः सर्वा यशसाभिभविष्यसि ॥०३-२८९-१४॥
varān-vṛṇīṣva kalyāṇi durāpān-mānuṣair-iha। yais-tvaṃ sīmantinīḥ sarvā yaśasābhibhaviṣyasi॥03-289-14॥
[वरान् (varān) - boons; वृणीष्व (vṛṇīṣva) - choose; कल्याणि (kalyāṇi) - O auspicious one; दुरापान् (durāpān) - difficult to obtain; मानुषैः (mānuṣaiḥ) - by humans; इह (iha) - here; यैः (yaiḥ) - by which; त्वम् (tvam) - you; सीमन्तिनीः (sīmantinīḥ) - married women; सर्वाः (sarvāḥ) - all; यशसा (yaśasā) - by fame; अभिभविष्यसि (abhibhaviṣyasi) - will surpass;]
(O auspicious one, choose boons here difficult to obtain by humans, by which you will surpass all married women by fame.)
O blessed lady, choose here those boons difficult for humans to obtain, by which you will excel all married women in fame. (03-289-14)

कृतानि मम सर्वाणि यस्या मे वेदवित्तम। त्वं प्रसन्नः पिता चैव कृतं विप्र वरैर्मम ॥०३-२८९-१५॥
kṛtāni mama sarvāṇi yasyā me vedavittama। tvaṃ prasannaḥ pitā caiva kṛtaṃ vipra varair mama ॥03-289-15॥
[कृतानि (kṛtāni) - done things; actions; मम (mama) - of me; my; सर्वाणि (sarvāṇi) - all; यस्या (yasyā) - of whom; whose; मे (me) - to me; for me; वेदवित्तम (vedavittama) - the best knower of the Vedas; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; प्रसन्नः (prasannaḥ) - well-disposed; pleased; पिता (pitā) - father; चैव (ca eva) - and indeed; and also; कृतं (kṛtaṃ) - done; accomplished; विप्र (vipra) - brāhmaṇa; sage; वरैः (varaiḥ) - by the best; by the excellent; मम (mama) - of me; my;]
(All actions of mine, O supreme knower of the Vedas, by whom for me—you, pleased, indeed (are) father—and what has been done by excellent brāhmaṇas (are) mine.)
All my actions, O supreme knower of the Vedas, for whom you, being pleased, are indeed as a father—and whatever is done by the best brāhmaṇas—is truly mine. (03-289-15)
ब्राह्मण उवाच॥

The brāhmaṇa said.
यदि नेच्छसि भद्रे त्वं वरं मत्तः शुचिस्मिते। इमं मन्त्रं गृहाण त्वमाह्वानाय दिवौकसाम् ॥०३-२८९-१६॥
yadi necchasi bhadre tvaṃ varaṃ mattaḥ śucismite। imaṃ mantraṃ gṛhāṇa tvam āhvānāya divaukasām ॥03-289-16॥
[यदि (yadi) - if; नेच्छसि (neccasi) - you do not desire; भद्रे (bhadre) - O auspicious one; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; वरं (varaṃ) - boon; मत्तः (mattaḥ) - from me; शुचिस्मिते (śucismite) - O pure-smiled one; इमं (imaṃ) - this; मन्त्रं (mantraṃ) - mantra; गृहाण (gṛhāṇa) - take; त्वम् (tvam) - you; आह्वानाय (āhvānāya) - for summoning; दिवौकसाम् (divaukasām) - of the celestial beings;]
(If you do not desire, O auspicious one, you, boon from me, O pure-smiled one, this mantra take you for summoning of the celestial beings.)
If you do not desire the boon from me, O auspicious one and pure-smiled lady, then take this mantra from me for summoning the celestial beings. (03-289-16)
यं यं देवं त्वमेतेन मन्त्रेणावाहयिष्यसि। तेन तेन वशे भद्रे स्थातव्यं ते भविष्यति ॥०३-२८९-१७॥
yaṃ yaṃ devaṃ tvam etena mantreṇāvāhayiṣyasi। tena tena vaśe bhadre sthātavyaṃ te bhaviṣyati ॥03-289-17॥
[यं यं (yaṃ yaṃ) - whichever; whichever; देवम् (devaṃ) - divinity; god; त्वम् (tvam) - you; एतेन (etena) - by this; मन्त्रेण (mantreṇa) - with mantra; with incantation; आवाहयिष्यसि (āvāhayiṣyasi) - you will invoke; तेन तेन (tena tena) - by him; by him; वशे (vaśe) - under control; भद्रे (bhadre) - O auspicious one; स्थातव्यम् (sthātavyam) - to be stood; must be abided; ते (te) - by you; for you; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - it will happen;]
(Whichever whichever god you by this mantra you will invoke, by him by him under control, O auspicious one, must be abided by you, it will be.)
O auspicious one, whichever god you invoke with this mantra, each of them will remain under your control. (03-289-17)
अकामो वा सकामो वा न स नैष्यति ते वशम्। विबुधो मन्त्रसंशान्तो वाक्ये भृत्य इवानतः ॥०३-२८९-१८॥
akāmo vā sakāmo vā na sa naiṣyati te vaśam। vibudho mantrasaṁśānto vākye bhṛtya ivānataḥ ॥03-289-18॥
[अकामः (akāmaḥ) - one without desire; वा (vā) - or; सकामः (sakāmaḥ) - one with desire; वा (vā) - or; न (na) - not; सः (saḥ) - he; नैष्यति (naiṣyati) - will go (will come to); ते (te) - your; वशम् (vaśam) - control; विबुधः (vibudhaḥ) - wise person; मन्त्रसंशान्तः (mantrasaṁśāntaḥ) - one pacified by counsel; वाक्ये (vākye) - to words; भृत्यः (bhṛtyaḥ) - servant; इव (iva) - like; आनतः (ānataḥ) - bowed; ॥ (॥) - ०३-२८९-१८ (03-289-18) -;]
(One without desire or with desire, he will not come under your control; the wise man, pacified by counsel, is like a bowed servant to words.)
Whether he is without desire or with desire, he will not come under your control; a wise man, pacified by counsel, is, in regard to words, like a servant who is bowed. (03-289-18)

न शशाक द्वितीयं सा प्रत्याख्यातुमनिन्दिता। तं वै द्विजातिप्रवरं तदा शापभयान्नृप ॥०३-२८९-१९॥
na śaśāka dvitīyaṃ sā pratyākhyātum aninditā। taṃ vai dvijāti-pravaraṃ tadā śāpa-bhayān nṛpa ॥03-289-19॥
[न (na) - not; शशाक (śaśāka) - was able; द्वितीयं (dvitīyam) - the second (time); सा (sā) - she; प्रत्याख्यातुम् (pratyākhyātum) - to refuse; अनिन्दिता (aninditā) - blameless; तं (taṃ) - him; वै (vai) - indeed; द्विजातिप्रवरं (dvijāti-pravaram) - the best among the twice-born; तदा (tadā) - at that time; शापभयात् (śāpa-bhayāt) - from fear of a curse; नृप (nṛpa) - O king;]
(Not was able the second time she to refuse, blameless one. Him indeed, the best among twice-born, at that time, from fear of a curse, O king.)
She, the blameless one, was not able to refuse a second time. She indeed did not refuse him, the best of the twice-born, at that time out of fear of a curse, O king. (03-289-19)
ततस्तामनवद्याङ्गीं ग्राहयामास वै द्विजः। मन्त्रग्रामं तदा राजन्नथर्वशिरसि श्रुतम् ॥०३-२८९-२०॥
tatastāmanavadyāṅgīṁ grāhayāmāsa vai dvijaḥ। mantragrāmaṁ tadā rājannatharvaśirasi śrutam॥03-289-20॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; ताम् (tām) - her; अनवद्याङ्गीं (anavadyāṅgīm) - one possessing flawless limbs; ग्रहयामास (grāhayāmāsa) - caused to learn; वै (vai) - indeed; द्विजः (dvijaḥ) - the twice-born (brāhmaṇa); मन्त्रग्रामं (mantragrāmam) - collection of mantras; तदा (tadā) - at that time; राजन् (rājan) - O king; अथर्वशिरसि (atharvaśirasi) - in the Atharvaśiras (Upaniṣad); श्रुतम् (śrutam) - (as) heard;]
(Then her, possessing flawless limbs, the twice-born indeed caused to learn the collection of mantras, at that time, O king, (as) heard in the Atharvaśiras.)
Then, O king, the brāhmaṇa indeed caused her, whose limbs were flawless, to learn the collection of mantras that had been heard in the Atharvaśiras (Upaniṣad). (03-289-20)
तं प्रदाय तु राजेन्द्र कुन्तिभोजमुवाच ह। उषितोऽस्मि सुखं राजन्कन्यया परितोषितः ॥०३-२८९-२१॥
taṃ pradāya tu rājedra kuntibhojam uvāca ha। uṣito'smi sukhaṃ rājan kanyayā paritoṣitaḥ॥03-289-21॥
[तं (taṃ) - him; प्रदाय (pradāya) - having given; तु (tu) - but; राजेन्द्र (rājedra) - O king; कुन्तिभोजम् (kuntibhojam) - Kuntibhoja; उवाच (uvāca) - said; ह (ha) - indeed; उषितः-अस्मि (uṣitaḥ-asmi) - I have stayed; सुखं (sukham) - happily; राजन् (rājan) - O king; कन्यया (kanyayā) - with the maiden; परितोषितः (paritoṣitaḥ) - satisfied;]
(Having given him, but, O king, Kuntibhoja indeed said: I have stayed happily, O king, satisfied with the maiden.)
Having given him away, Kuntibhoja, O king, indeed said: 'I have stayed happily, O king, and have been satisfied with the maiden.' (03-289-21)
तव गेहे सुविहितः सदा सुप्रतिपूजितः। साधयिष्यामहे तावदित्युक्त्वान्तरधीयत ॥०३-२८९-२२॥
tava gehe suvihitaḥ sadā supratipūjitaḥ। sādhayiṣyāmahe tāvad ity uktvā antaradhīyata ॥03-289-22॥
[तव (tava) - of you; गेहे (gehe) - in the house; सुविहितः (suvihitaḥ) - well-arranged; सदा (sadā) - always; सुप्रतिपूजितः (supratipūjitaḥ) - well-honored; साधयिष्यामहे (sādhayiṣyāmahe) - we shall accomplish; तावत् (tāvat) - so long; इति (iti) - thus; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having said; अन्तरधीयत (antaradhīyata) - disappeared;]
(Of you in the house well-arranged always well-honored, we shall accomplish so long—thus having said, disappeared.)
He, always well-honored and well-settled in your house, said 'We shall accomplish so long' and then disappeared. (03-289-22)
स तु राजा द्विजं दृष्ट्वा तत्रैवान्तर्हितं तदा। बभूव विस्मयाविष्टः पृथां च समपूजयत् ॥०३-२८९-२३॥
sa tu rājā dvijaṃ dṛṣṭvā tatraiva antarhitaṃ tadā। babhūva vismayāviṣṭaḥ pṛthāṃ ca samapūjayat ॥03-289-23॥
[स (sa) - he; तु (tu) - but; राजा (rājā) - the king; द्विजं (dvijaṃ) - the twice-born (brāhmaṇa); दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; तत्रैव (tatraiva) - right there; अन्तर्हितं (antarhitaṃ) - disappeared; hidden; तदा (tadā) - then; बभूव (babhūva) - became; विस्मयाविष्टः (vismayāviṣṭaḥ) - overwhelmed with amazement; पृथां (pṛthāṃ) - Pṛthā (proper noun, Kuntī); च (ca) - and; समपूजयत् (samapūjayat) - honored greatly;]
(He but the king, having seen the twice-born right there disappeared then, became overwhelmed with amazement, Pṛthā and honored greatly.)
But the king, seeing the twice-born brāhmaṇa disappear right there, was filled with amazement and honored Pṛthā greatly. (03-289-23)
