भगवानुवाच॥
bhagavānuvāca॥
[भगवान् (bhagavān) - the Blessed One; उवाच (uvāca) - said;]
The Blessed One said:
यथा ब्रूयान्महाप्राज्ञो यथा ब्रूयाद्विचक्षणः। यथा वाच्यस्त्वद्विधेन सुहृदा मद्विधः सुहृत् ॥५-९१-१॥
yathā brūyānmahāprājñō yathā brūyādvicakṣaṇaḥ। yathā vācyastvadvidhēna suhr̥dā madvidhaḥ suhr̥t ॥5-91-1॥
[यथा (yathā) - just as; ब्रूयात् (brūyāt) - should speak; महाप्राज्ञः (mahāprājñaḥ) - a very wise person; यथा (yathā) - just as; ब्रूयात् (brūyāt) - should speak; विचक्षणः (vicakṣaṇaḥ) - a discerning person; यथा (yathā) - in the way; वाच्यः (vācyaḥ) - ought to be addressed; त्वत्-विधेन (tvat-vidhēna) - by one like you; सुहृदा (suhr̥dā) - a friend; मत्-विधः (mat-vidhaḥ) - like me; सुहृत् (suhr̥t) - a friend;]
Just as a very wise person should speak, as a discerning person should speak, and just as a friend like me ought to be addressed by a friend like you... (5-91-1)
धर्मार्थयुक्तं तथ्यं च यथा त्वय्युपपद्यते। तथा वचनमुक्तोऽस्मि त्वयैतत्पितृमातृवत् ॥५-९१-२॥
dharmārthayuktaṁ tathyaṁ ca yathā tvayyupapadyatē। tathā vacanamuktō’smi tvayaitatpitr̥mātr̥vat ॥5-91-2॥
[धर्मार्थयुक्तं (dharmārthayuktaṁ) - joined with righteousness and purpose; तथ्यं (tathyaṁ) - true; च (ca) - and; यथा (yathā) - as; त्वयि (tvayi) - by you; उपपद्यते (upapadyatē) - is fitting; तथा (tathā) - just so; वचनम् (vacanam) - words; उक्तः (uktaḥ) - I have spoken; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; एतत् (ētat) - this; पितृमातृवत् (pitr̥mātr̥vat) - as to a father or mother;]
I have spoken words that are joined with righteousness, purpose, and truth, as is fitting for you; you, to me, are like a father or mother. (5-91-2)
सत्यं प्राप्तं च युक्तं चाप्येवमेव यथात्थ माम्। शृणुष्वागमने हेतुं विदुरावहितो भव ॥५-९१-३॥
satyaṁ prāptaṁ ca yuktaṁ cāpyēvamēva yathāttha mām। śr̥ṇuṣvāgamanē hētuṁ vidurāvahitō bhava ॥5-91-3॥
[सत्यं (satyaṁ) - true; प्राप्तं (prāptaṁ) - appropriate; च (ca) - and; युक्तं (yuktaṁ) - well-reasoned; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; एवम् (ēvam) - in this way; एव (ēva) - indeed; यथा (yathā) - as; अत्थ (attha) - you say; माम् (mām) - to me; शृणुष्व (śr̥ṇuṣva) - listen; आगमने (āgamanē) - regarding my coming; हेतुं (hētuṁ) - the reason; विदुर (vidura) - Vidura; आवहितः (āvahitaḥ) - attentively; भव (bhava) - be;]
What you have said to me is true, appropriate, and reasonable indeed; now listen attentively, Vidura, to the reason for my coming. (5-91-3)
दौरात्म्यं धार्तराष्ट्रस्य क्षत्रियाणां च वैरिताम्। सर्वमेतदहं जानन्क्षत्तः प्राप्तोऽद्य कौरवान् ॥५-९१-४॥
daurātmyaṁ dhārtarāṣṭrasya kṣatriyāṇāṁ ca vairitām। sarvamētadahaṁ jānankṣattaḥ prāptō’dya kauravān ॥5-91-4॥
[दौरात्म्यं (daurātmyaṁ) - the wickedness; धार्तराष्ट्रस्य (dhārtarāṣṭrasya) - of Dhritarashtra's son; क्षत्रियाणां (kṣatriyāṇāṁ) - among the kshatriyas; च (ca) - and; वैरिताम् (vairitām) - hostility; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all of this; एतत् (ētat) - this; अहं (ahaṁ) - I; जानन् (jānan) - knowing; क्षत्तः (kṣattaḥ) - O Kshatta; प्राप्तः (prāptaḥ) - have come; अद्य (adya) - today; कौरवान् (kauravān) - to the Kauravas;]
Knowing all this—the wickedness of Dhritarashtra's son and the hostility among the kshatriyas—I have come to the Kauravas today, O Kshatta. (5-91-4)
पर्यस्तां पृथिवीं सर्वां साश्वां सरथकुञ्जराम्। यो मोचयेन्मृत्युपाशात्प्राप्नुयाद्धर्ममुत्तमम् ॥५-९१-५॥
paryastāṁ pr̥thivīṁ sarvāṁ sāśvāṁ sarathakuñjarām। yō mōcayēnmr̥tyupāśātprāpnuyāddharmamuttamam ॥5-91-5॥
[पर्यस्तां (paryastāṁ) - afflicted; पृथिवीं (pr̥thivīṁ) - earth; सर्वां (sarvāṁ) - entire; साश्वां (sāśvāṁ) - with its horses; सरथकुञ्जराम् (sarathakuñjarām) - with its chariots and elephants; यः (yaḥ) - whoever; मोचयेत् (mōcayēt) - were to free; मृत्युपाशात् (mr̥tyupāśāt) - from the noose of death; प्राप्नुयात् (prāpnuyāt) - would obtain; धर्मम् (dharmam) - merit; उत्तमम् (uttamam) - supreme;]
Whoever were to free the entire afflicted earth—together with its horses, chariots, and elephants—from the noose of death would obtain supreme merit. (5-91-5)
धर्मकार्यं यतञ्शक्त्या न चेच्छक्नोति मानवः। प्राप्तो भवति तत्पुण्यमत्र मे नास्ति संशयः ॥५-९१-६॥
dharmakāryaṁ yatañśaktyā na cēcchaknōti mānavaḥ। prāptō bhavati tatpuṇyamatra mē nāsti saṁśayaḥ ॥5-91-6॥
[धर्मकार्यं (dharmakāryaṁ) - righteous action; यतन् (yatan) - striving; शक्त्या (śaktyā) - with all his ability; न च (na ca) - but not; इच्छेत् (icchēt) - he desires; शक्नोति (śaknōti) - is able; मानवः (mānavaḥ) - a person; प्राप्तः (prāptaḥ) - has attained; भवति (bhavati) - becomes; तत् (tat) - that; पुण्यम् (puṇyam) - merit; अत्र (atra) - here; मे (mē) - for me; नास्ति (nāsti) - there is no; संशयः (saṁśayaḥ) - doubt;]
If a person strives to perform a righteous action with all his ability but is not able to accomplish it, he still attains that merit; of this I have no doubt. (5-91-6)
मनसा चिन्तयन्पापं कर्मणा नाभिरोचयन्। न प्राप्नोति फलं तस्य एवं धर्मविदो विदुः ॥५-९१-७॥
manasā cintayanpāpaṁ karmaṇā nābhirōcayan। na prāpnōti phalaṁ tasya ēvaṁ dharmavidō viduḥ ॥5-91-7॥
[मनसा (manasā) - in the mind; चिन्तयन् (cintayan) - contemplating; पापं (pāpaṁ) - wrongdoing; कर्मणा (karmaṇā) - in action; न (na) - not; अभिरोचयन् (abhirōcayan) - approving; न (na) - does not; प्राप्नोति (prāpnōti) - incur; फलं (phalaṁ) - the result; तस्य (tasya) - of that; एवं (ēvaṁ) - thus; धर्मविदः (dharmavidaḥ) - those who know dharma; विदुः (viduḥ) - know;]
If someone contemplates wrongdoing in their mind, but does not approve it in action, they do not incur its result—thus, those who know dharma understand. (5-91-7)
सोऽहं यतिष्ये प्रशमं क्षत्तः कर्तुममायया। कुरूणां सृञ्जयानां च सङ्ग्रामे विनशिष्यताम् ॥५-९१-८॥
sō’haṁ yatiṣyē praśamaṁ kṣattaḥ kartumamāyayā। kurūṇāṁ sr̥ñjayānāṁ ca saṅgrāmē vinaśiṣyatām ॥5-91-8॥
[सः (saḥ) - therefore I; अहम् (aham) - I; यतिष्ये (yatiṣyē) - will strive; प्रशमम् (praśamam) - for quelling; क्षत्तः (kṣattaḥ) - O Kshatta; कर्तुम् (kartum) - to bring about; अमायया (amāyayā) - by honest means; कुरूणाम् (kurūṇām) - of the Kurus; सृञ्जयानाम् च (sr̥ñjayānām ca) - and the Srinjayas; सङ्ग्रामे (saṅgrāmē) - in the battle; विनशिष्यताम् (vinaśiṣyatām) - while they are perishing;]
Therefore, O Kshatta, I will strive by honest means to bring about appeasement while the Kurus and the Srinjayas are perishing in battle. (5-91-8)
सेयमापन्महाघोरा कुरुष्वेव समुत्थिता। कर्णदुर्योधनकृता सर्वे ह्येते तदन्वयाः ॥५-९१-९॥
sēyamāpanmahāghōrā kuruṣvēva samutthitā। karṇaduryōdhanakr̥tā sarvē hyētē tadanvayāḥ ॥5-91-9॥
[सा (sā) - that; इयम् (iyam) - this; आपत् (āpat) - calamity; महाघोरा (mahāghōrā) - very terrible; कुरुषु (kuruṣu) - among the Kurus; एव (ēva) - indeed; समुत्थिता (samutthitā) - has arisen; कर्णदुर्योधनकृता (karṇaduryōdhanakr̥tā) - caused by Karna and Duryodhana; सर्वे (sarvē) - all; हि (hi) - indeed; एते (ētē) - these; तदन्वयाः (tadanvayāḥ) - are of their following;]
This very terrible calamity has indeed arisen among the Kurus, caused by Karna and Duryodhana, for all these men are their followers. (5-91-9)
व्यसनैः क्लिश्यमानं हि यो मित्रं नाभिपद्यते। अनुनीय यथाशक्ति तं नृशंसं विदुर्बुधाः ॥५-९१-१०॥
vyasanaiḥ kliśyamānaṁ hi yō mitraṁ nābhipadyatē। anunīya yathāśakti taṁ nr̥śaṁsaṁ vidurbudhāḥ ॥5-91-10॥
[व्यसनैः (vyasanaiḥ) - with misfortunes; क्लिश्यमानं (kliśyamānaṁ) - distressed; हि (hi) - indeed; यः (yaḥ) - who; मित्रं (mitraṁ) - a friend; न (na) - does not; अभिपद्यते (abhipadyatē) - assist; अनुनीय (anunīya) - having brought along; यथाशक्ति (yathāśakti) - to the best of their ability; तम् (tam) - such a person; नृशंसं (nr̥śaṁsaṁ) - cruel; विदुः (viduḥ) - they consider; बुधाः (budhāḥ) - the wise;]
The wise consider as cruel one who does not assist a friend distressed by misfortunes and, having brought them along, helps to the best of their ability. (5-91-10)
आ केशग्रहणान्मित्रमकार्यात्संनिवर्तयन्। अवाच्यः कस्यचिद्भवति कृतयत्नो यथाबलम् ॥५-९१-११॥
ā kēśagrahaṇānmitramakāryātsaṁnivartayan। avācyaḥ kasyacidbhavati kr̥tayatnō yathābalam ॥5-91-11॥
[आ केशग्रहणात् (ā kēśagrahaṇāt) - until being seized by the hair; मित्रम् (mitram) - a friend; अकार्यात् (akāryāt) - from misdeed; संनिवर्तयन् (saṁnivartayan) - turning away; अवाच्यः (avācyaḥ) - subject to reproach; कस्यचित् (kasyacit) - by anyone; भवति (bhavati) - becomes; कृतयत्नः (kr̥tayatnaḥ) - having made the effort; यथाबलम् (yathābalam) - to the best of one's ability;]
One who, turning a friend back from wrongdoing to the best of his ability before he is seized by the hair, becomes subject to reproach by no one, having made the effort. (5-91-11)
तत्समर्थं शुभं वाक्यं धर्मार्थसहितं हितम्। धार्तराष्ट्रः सहामात्यो ग्रहीतुं विदुरार्हति ॥५-९१-१२॥
tatsamarthaṁ śubhaṁ vākyaṁ dharmārthasahitaṁ hitam। dhārtarāṣṭraḥ sahāmātyō grahītuṁ vidurārhati ॥5-91-12॥
[तत् (tat) - that; समर्थं (samarthaṁ) - capable; शुभं (śubhaṁ) - auspicious; वाक्यम् (vākyam) - speech; धर्म-अर्थ-सहितं (dharma-artha-sahitaṁ) - joined with righteousness and purpose; हितम् (hitam) - beneficial; धार्तराष्ट्रः (dhārtarāṣṭraḥ) - the son of Dhritarashtra; सह-अमात्यः (saha-amātyaḥ) - together with his counselors; ग्रहीतुं (grahītuṁ) - to accept; विदुरः (viduraḥ) - Vidura; अर्हति (arhati) - deserves;]
Vidura deserves to have the son of Dhritarashtra, along with his counselors, accept that capable, auspicious, and beneficial speech, united with righteousness and purpose. (5-91-12)
हितं हि धार्तराष्ट्राणां पाण्डवानां तथैव च। पृथिव्यां क्षत्रियाणां च यतिष्येऽहममायया ॥५-९१-१३॥
hitaṁ hi dhārtarāṣṭrāṇāṁ pāṇḍavānāṁ tathaiva ca। pr̥thivyāṁ kṣatriyāṇāṁ ca yatiṣyē’hamamāyayā ॥5-91-13॥
[हितं (hitaṁ) - what is beneficial; हि (hi) - indeed; धार्तराष्ट्राणां (dhārtarāṣṭrāṇāṁ) - for the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra; पाण्डवानां (pāṇḍavānāṁ) - for the Pāṇḍavas; तथैव (tathaiva) - and likewise; च (ca) - also; पृथिव्यां (pr̥thivyāṁ) - on earth; क्षत्रियाणां (kṣatriyāṇāṁ) - for the kṣatriyas; च (ca) - and; यतिष्ये (yatiṣyē) - I will strive; अहम् (aham) - I; अमायया (amāyayā) - without deceit;]
Indeed, I will sincerely strive for what is beneficial for the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, for the Pāṇḍavas, and likewise for all the kṣatriyas on earth, without deceit. (5-91-13)
हिते प्रयतमानं मां शङ्केद्दुर्योधनो यदि। हृदयस्य च मे प्रीतिरानृण्यं च भविष्यति ॥५-९१-१४॥
hitē prayatamānaṁ māṁ śaṅkēdduryōdhanō yadi। hr̥dayasya ca mē prītirānr̥ṇyaṁ ca bhaviṣyati ॥5-91-14॥
[हिते (hitē) - in what is beneficial; प्रयतमानं (prayatamānaṁ) - acting; मां (māṁ) - me; शङ्केत् (śaṅkēt) - might distrust; दुर्योधनः (duryōdhanaḥ) - Duryodhana; यदि (yadi) - if; हृदयस्य (hr̥dayasya) - of my heart; च (ca) - and; मे (mē) - my; प्रीतिः (prītiḥ) - satisfaction; आनृण्यं (ānr̥ṇyaṁ) - freedom from debt; च (ca) - and; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - will result;]
If Duryodhana should distrust me as I act for their welfare, still my heart will be satisfied and I will be free from obligation. (5-91-14)
ज्ञातीनां हि मिथो भेदे यन्मित्रं नाभिपद्यते। सर्वयत्नेन मध्यस्थं न तन्मित्रं विदुर्बुधाः ॥५-९१-१५॥
jñātīnāṁ hi mithō bhēdē yanmitraṁ nābhipadyatē। sarvayatnēna madhyasthaṁ na tanmitraṁ vidurbudhāḥ ॥5-91-15॥
[ज्ञातीनाम् (jñātīnām) - of kinsmen; हि (hi) - indeed; मिथः (mithaḥ) - with each other; भेदे (bhēdē) - when there is discord; यत् (yat) - that which; मित्रम् (mitram) - a friend; न (na) - does not; अभिपद्यते (abhipadyatē) - take sides; सर्वयत्नेन (sarvayatnēna) - with every effort; मध्यस्थम् (madhyastham) - remaining neutral; न (na) - not; तत् (tat) - that; मित्रम् (mitram) - friend; विदुः (viduḥ) - regard as; बुधाः (budhāḥ) - the wise;]
Indeed, when there is discord among kinsmen, that person who with every effort remains neutral and does not side with either party is not regarded as a friend by the wise. (5-91-15)
न मां ब्रूयुरधर्मज्ञा मूढा असुहृदस्तथा। शक्तो नावारयत्कृष्णः संरब्धान्कुरुपाण्डवान् ॥५-९१-१६॥
na māṁ brūyuradharmajñā mūḍhā asuhr̥dastathā। śaktō nāvārayatkr̥ṣṇaḥ saṁrabdhānkurupāṇḍavān ॥5-91-16॥
[न (na) - not; मां (māṁ) - me; ब्रूयुः (brūyuḥ) - would call; अधर्मज्ञा (adharmajñā) - those ignorant of righteousness; मूढाः (mūḍhāḥ) - fools; असुहृतः (asuhr̥taḥ) - enemies; तथा (tathā) - likewise; शक्तः (śaktaḥ) - able; न (na) - not; अवारयत् (avārayat) - did restrain; कृष्णः (kr̥ṣṇaḥ) - Kṛṣṇa; संरब्धान् (saṁrabdhān) - angry; कुरुपाण्डवान् (kurupāṇḍavān) - the Kuru and Pāṇḍava factions;]
Those ignorant of righteousness, fools, and enemies would not call me someone whom Kṛṣṇa, though able, did not restrain from the enraged Kuru and Pāṇḍava parties. (5-91-16)
उभयोः साधयन्नर्थमहमागत इत्युत। तत्र यत्नमहं कृत्वा गच्छेयं नृष्ववाच्यताम् ॥५-९१-१७॥
ubhayōḥ sādhayannarthamahamāgata ityuta। tatra yatnamahaṁ kr̥tvā gacchēyaṁ nr̥ṣvavācyatām ॥5-91-17॥
[उभयोः (ubhayōḥ) - of both sides; साधयन् (sādhayan) - bringing about; अर्थम् (artham) - a settlement; अहम् (aham) - I; आगत (āgata) - have come; इति (iti) - thus; उत् (ut) - indeed; तत्र (tatra) - in that; यत्नम् (yatnam) - effort; अहम् (aham) - I; कृत्वा (kr̥tvā) - having made; गच्छेयं (gacchēyaṁ) - I might incur; नृषु (nr̥ṣu) - among men; अवाच्यताम् (avācyatām) - blameworthiness;]
Saying, 'I have come to bring about a settlement between both sides,' if I make an effort for that, I might incur blame among men. (5-91-17)
मम धर्मार्थयुक्तं हि श्रुत्वा वाक्यमनामयम्। न चेदादास्यते बालो दिष्टस्य वशमेष्यति ॥५-९१-१८॥
mama dharmārthayuktaṁ hi śrutvā vākyamanāmayam। na cēdādāsyatē bālō diṣṭasya vaśamēṣyati ॥5-91-18॥
[मम (mama) - my; धर्मार्थयुक्तं (dharmārthayuktaṁ) - righteous and purposeful; हि (hi) - indeed; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; वाक्यम् (vākyam) - words; अनामयम् (anāmayam) - without harm; न चेत् (na cēt) - if not; आदास्यते (ādāsyatē) - (he) accepts; बालः (bālaḥ) - the boy; दिष्टस्य (diṣṭasya) - of fate; वशम् (vaśam) - the power; एष्यति (ēṣyati) - he will fall under;]
If the boy does not accept my harmless words, which are connected with righteousness and purpose, then he will fall under the power of fate. (5-91-18)
अहापयन्पाण्डवार्थं यथाव; च्छमं कुरूणां यदि चाचरेयम्। पुण्यं च मे स्याच्चरितं महार्थं; मुच्येरंश्च कुरवो मृत्युपाशात् ॥५-९१-१९॥
ahāpayanpāṇḍavārthaṁ yathāva; cchamaṁ kurūṇāṁ yadi cācarēyam। puṇyaṁ ca mē syāccaritaṁ mahārthaṁ; mucyēraṁśca kuravō mr̥tyupāśāt ॥5-91-19॥
[अहापयन् (ahāpayan) - offering; पाण्डवार्थम् (pāṇḍavārtham) - for the sake of the Pāṇḍavas; यथा (yathā) - as; उच्छमम् (ucchamam) - possible; कुरूणाम् (kurūṇām) - for the Kurus; यदि (yadi) - if; च (ca) - also; आचरेयम् (ācarēyam) - I should act; पुण्यम् (puṇyam) - meritorious; च (ca) - and; मे (mē) - to me; स्यात् (syāt) - would be; चरितम् (caritam) - deed; महा-अर्थम् (mahā-artham) - of great value; मुच्येरन् (mucyēran) - would be freed; च (ca) - and; कुरवः (kuravaḥ) - the Kurus; मृत्यु-पाशात् (mr̥tyu-pāśāt) - from the noose of death;]
If, acting for the sake of the Pāṇḍavas as much as is possible for the Kurus, I should conduct myself accordingly, then my action would be meritorious and of great value, and the Kurus would be freed from the noose of death. (5-91-19)
अपि वाचं भाषमाणस्य काव्यां; धर्मारामामर्थवतीमहिंस्राम्। अवेक्षेरन्धार्तराष्ट्राः समर्थां; मां च प्राप्तं कुरवः पूजयेयुः ॥५-९१-२०॥
api vācaṁ bhāṣamāṇasya kāvyāṁ; dharmārāmāmarthavatīmahiṁsrām। avēkṣērandhārtarāṣṭrāḥ samarthāṁ; māṁ ca prāptaṁ kuravaḥ pūjayēyuḥ ॥5-91-20॥
[अपि (api) - even; वाचं (vācaṁ) - speech; भाषमाणस्य (bhāṣamāṇasya) - when I speak; काव्यां (kāvyāṁ) - skillful; धर्मारामाम् (dharmārāmām) - delighting in righteousness; अर्थवतीम् (arthavatīm) - meaningful; अहिंस्राम् (ahiṁsrām) - non-harmful; अवेक्षेरन् (avēkṣēran) - they would consider; धार्तराष्ट्राः (dhārtarāṣṭrāḥ) - the sons of Dhritarashtra; समर्थाम् (samarthām) - effective; मां (māṁ) - me; च (ca) - and; प्राप्तम् (prāptam) - having arrived; कुरवः (kuravaḥ) - the Kurus; पूजयेयुः (pūjayēyuḥ) - would honor;]
If, as I spoke words both skillful and meaningful, rooted in righteousness and free from harm, the sons of Dhritarashtra would recognize their force, and if, upon my arrival, the Kurus would honor me... (5-91-20)
न चापि मम पर्याप्ताः सहिताः सर्वपार्थिवाः। क्रुद्धस्य प्रमुखे स्थातुं सिंहस्येवेतरे मृगाः ॥५-९१-२१॥
na cāpi mama paryāptāḥ sahitāḥ sarvapārthivāḥ। kruddhasya pramukhē sthātuṁ siṁhasyēvētarē mr̥gāḥ ॥5-91-21॥
[न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - even; मम (mama) - by me; पर्याप्ताः (paryāptāḥ) - sufficient; सहिताः (sahitāḥ) - joined together; सर्वपार्थिवाः (sarvapārthivāḥ) - all the kings; क्रुद्धस्य (kruddhasya) - when enraged; प्रमुखे (pramukhē) - before; स्थातुं (sthātuṁ) - to stand; सिंहस्य (siṁhasya) - of a lion; इव (iva) - like; इतरे (itarē) - other; मृगाः (mr̥gāḥ) - beasts;]
Nor would all the kings together be sufficient to stand before me when I am enraged, just as other beasts cannot face a lion. (5-91-21)
वैशम्पायन उवाच॥
vaiśampāyana uvāca॥
[वैशम्पायन (vaiśampāyana) - Vaiśampāyana; उवाच (uvāca) - said;]
Vaiśampāyana said:
इत्येवमुक्त्वा वचनं वृष्णीनामृषभस्तदा। शयने सुखसंस्पर्शे शिश्ये यदुसुखावहः ॥५-९१-२२॥
ityēvamuktvā vacanaṁ vr̥ṣṇīnāmr̥ṣabhastadā। śayanē sukhasaṁsparśē śiśyē yadusukhāvahaḥ ॥5-91-22॥
[इति एवम् उक्त्वा (iti ēvam uktvā) - having spoken thus; वचनं (vacanaṁ) - these words; वृष्णीनाम् ऋषभः तदा (vr̥ṣṇīnām r̥ṣabhaḥ tadā) - the foremost of the Vṛṣṇis at that time; शयने सुखसंस्पर्शे (śayanē sukhasaṁsparśē) - on a bed soft to the touch; शिश्ये (śiśyē) - lay down; यदु-सुखावहः (yadu-sukhāvahaḥ) - bringing joy to the Yadus;]
Having spoken these words, the foremost of the Vṛṣṇis then lay down on a bed soft to the touch, bringing joy to the Yadus. (5-91-22)
