Nārada said:

This world belongs to the Suparnas, the serpent-eating birds, for whom there is no fatigue in their prowess, movement, or in bearing burdens. (5-99-1)

Sūta, this lineage has been filled by six sons of Garuḍa: by Sumukha, Sunāman, Sunetra, and Suvarcas. (5-99-2)

By Surūpa, lord of birds, by Subala, and by Mātali, indeed, the clans were increased by birth by those who made the lineage of Vinatā. (5-99-3)

And of the noble descendants of the king of birds, hundreds and thousands were born in Kaśyapa's lineage—these increased prosperity. (5-99-4)

All these are indeed endowed with splendour, all are marked by the Śrīvatsa; all, desiring splendour, possess strengths indeed. (5-99-5)

By their actions, these are Kṣatriyas—merciless, enjoying and consuming; because they destroy their kin, they certainly do not attain the status of Brāhmaṇas. (5-99-6)

Mātali, I will tell you the names of these, in order of prominence—listen. Indeed, this family is praiseworthy, cherished by Viṣṇu. (5-99-7)

Viṣṇu is their deity; Viṣṇu alone is their supreme goal. In their hearts always is Viṣṇu, and Viṣṇu alone is always their refuge. (5-99-8)

Suvarṇachūḍa, Nāgāśī, Dāruṇa, Caṇḍatuṇḍaka, Anala, and Anila, as well as Viśālākṣa and Kuṇḍalī. (5-99-9)

Kāśyapi, Dhvajaviṣkambha, Vainateya, and Vāmana, Vātavega, Diśācakṣu, Nimeṣa, and also Nimiṣa. (5-99-10)

Trivara, Saptavara, Valmiki, Dvipaka, Daityadwipa, Sariddwipa, Saras, and Padmakesara. (5-99-11)

Sumukha, Sukhaketu, Citrabarha, Anagha, Meghakrit, Kumuda, Daksha, Sarpanta, and Somabhojana; (5-99-12)

Gurubhara, Kapota, Suryanetra, Chirantaka, Vishnudhanva, Kumara, Paribarha, and also Hari. (5-99-13)

Su-svara, Madhuparka, the golden-complexioned one, also Malaya, Mātariśvan, and the Moon and the Sun. (5-99-14)

These sons of Garuḍa were named by me merely by proximity, listed in order of importance and then by fame, and I mentioned them after bowing. (5-99-15)
