सुपर्ण उवाच॥
suparṇa uvāca॥
[सुपर्ण (suparṇa) - Suparṇa; उवाच (uvāca) - said;]
Suparṇa said:
यस्मादुत्तार्यते पापाद्यस्मान्निःश्रेयसोऽश्नुते। तस्मादुत्तारणफलादुत्तरेत्युच्यते बुधैः ॥५-१०९-१॥
yasmāduttāryatē pāpādyasmānniḥśrēyasō’śnutē। tasmāduttāraṇaphalāduttarētyucyatē budhaiḥ ॥5-109-1॥
[यस्मात् (yasmāt) - because of which; उत्तार्यते (uttāryatē) - one is rescued; पापात् (pāpāt) - from sin; यस्मात् (yasmāt) - because of which; निःश्रेयसः (niḥśrēyasaḥ) - the highest good; अश्नुते (aśnutē) - one attains; तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; उत्तारणफलात् (uttāraṇaphalāt) - since it has the result of deliverance; उत्तरेति (uttarēti) - it is called uttara; उच्यते (ucyatē) - is called; बुधैः (budhaiḥ) - by the wise;]
Because it rescues one from sin and grants the highest good, and since its result is deliverance, the wise call it 'uttara' (deliverance). (5-109-1)
उत्तरस्य हिरण्यस्य परिवापस्य गालव। मार्गः पश्चिमपूर्वाभ्यां दिग्भ्यां वै मध्यमः स्मृतः ॥५-१०९-२॥
uttarasya hiraṇyasya parivāpasya gālava। mārgaḥ paścimapūrvābhyāṁ digbhyāṁ vai madhyamaḥ smr̥taḥ ॥5-109-2॥
[उत्तरस्य (uttarasya) - to the north; हिरण्यस्य (hiraṇyasya) - of gold; परिवापस्य (parivāpasya) - of the purifying vessel; गालव (gālava) - Gālava; मार्गः (mārgaḥ) - the path; पश्चिमपूर्वाभ्यां दिग्भ्यां (paścimapūrvābhyāṁ digbhyāṁ) - from the western and eastern directions; वै (vai) - indeed; मध्यमः स्मृतः (madhyamaḥ smr̥taḥ) - is considered central;]
Gālava, to the north of the golden purifying vessel, the path lying between the western and eastern directions is regarded as central. (5-109-2)
अस्यां दिशि वरिष्ठायामुत्तरायां द्विजर्षभ। नासौम्यो नाविधेयात्मा नाधर्म्यो वसते जनः ॥५-१०९-३॥
asyāṁ diśi variṣṭhāyāmuttarāyāṁ dvijarṣabha। nāsaumyō nāvidhēyātmā nādharmyō vasatē janaḥ ॥5-109-3॥
[अस्याम् दिशि (asyām diśi) - in this direction; वरिष्ठायाम् (variṣṭhāyām) - foremost; उत्तरायाम् (uttarāyām) - northern; द्विजर्षभ (dvijarṣabha) - O best of twice-born; न (na) - not; असौम्यः (asaumyaḥ) - harsh person; न (na) - not; अविधेयात्मा (avidhēyātmā) - one who is not self-controlled; न (na) - not; अधर्म्यः (adharmyaḥ) - unrighteous person; वसते (vasatē) - dwells; जनः (janaḥ) - person;]
In this foremost northern direction, O best of twice-born, no harsh, unrighteous, or undisciplined person dwells. (5-109-3)
अत्र नारायणः कृष्णो जिष्णुश्चैव नरोत्तमः। बदर्यामाश्रमपदे तथा ब्रह्मा च शाश्वतः ॥५-१०९-४॥
atra nārāyaṇaḥ kr̥ṣṇō jiṣṇuścaiva narōttamaḥ। badaryāmāśramapadē tathā brahmā ca śāśvataḥ ॥5-109-4॥
[अत्र (atra) - here; नारायणः (nārāyaṇaḥ) - Nārāyaṇa; कृष्णः (kr̥ṣṇaḥ) - Kṛṣṇa; जिष्णुः (jiṣṇuḥ) - Jishnu (Arjuna); च एव (ca ēva) - and also; नर-उत्तमः (nara-uttamaḥ) - the best of men; बदर्याम् (badaryām) - in Badarī; आश्रम-पदे (āśrama-padē) - the hermitage; तथा (tathā) - as well as; ब्रह्मा च (brahmā ca) - and Brahmā; शाश्वतः (śāśvataḥ) - the eternal;]
Here, Nārāyaṇa, Kṛṣṇa, Jishnu—the best of men—at the hermitage of Badarī, and also the eternal Brahmā (reside). (5-109-4)
अत्र वै हिमवत्पृष्ठे नित्यमास्ते महेश्वरः। अत्र राज्येन विप्राणां चन्द्रमाश्चाभ्यषिच्यत ॥५-१०९-५॥
atra vai himavatpr̥ṣṭhē nityamāstē mahēśvaraḥ। atra rājyēna viprāṇāṁ candramāścābhyaṣicyata ॥5-109-5॥
[अत्र वै (atra vai) - here indeed; हिमवत्पृष्ठे (himavatpr̥ṣṭhē) - on the slopes of the Himalaya; नित्यम् (nityam) - always; आस्ते (āstē) - dwells; महेश्वरः (mahēśvaraḥ) - Maheshvara; अत्र (atra) - here; राज्येन (rājyēna) - with royal authority; विप्राणाम् (viprāṇām) - of the Brahmins; चन्द्रमाः च (candramāḥ ca) - and the Moon; अभ्यषिच्यत् (abhyaṣicyat) - was consecrated;]
Here indeed, on the slopes of the Himalaya, Maheshvara always dwells. Here, the Moon was also consecrated with the sovereign power of the Brahmins. (5-109-5)
अत्र गङ्गां महादेवः पतन्तीं गगनाच्च्युताम्। प्रतिगृह्य ददौ लोके मानुषे ब्रह्मवित्तम ॥५-१०९-६॥
atra gaṅgāṁ mahādēvaḥ patantīṁ gaganāccyutām। pratigr̥hya dadau lōkē mānuṣē brahmavittama ॥5-109-6॥
[अत्र (atra) - here; गङ्गां (gaṅgāṁ) - Gaṅgā; महादेवः (mahādēvaḥ) - Mahādeva; पतन्तीं (patantīṁ) - falling; गगनात् च्युताम् (gaganāt cyutām) - descended from the sky; प्रतिगृह्य (pratigr̥hya) - having received; ददौ (dadau) - gave; लोके (lōkē) - on earth; मानुषे (mānuṣē) - among humans; ब्रह्मवित्तम (brahmavittama) - O knower of Brahman;]
Here, Mahādeva, having received Gaṅgā as she fell from the sky, gave her to the world of men, O knower of Brahman. (5-109-6)
अत्र देव्या तपस्तप्तं महेश्वरपरीप्सया। अत्र कामश्च रोषश्च शैलश्चोमा च सम्बभुः ॥५-१०९-७॥
atra dēvyā tapastaptaṁ mahēśvaraparīpsayā। atra kāmaśca rōṣaśca śailaścōmā ca sambabhuḥ ॥5-109-7॥
[अत्र (atra) - here; देव्या (dēvyā) - by the goddess; तपः (tapaḥ) - austerity; तप्तं (taptaṁ) - was performed; महेश्वरपरीप्सया (mahēśvaraparīpsayā) - seeking to reach Maheshvara; अत्र (atra) - here; कामः (kāmaḥ) - desire; च (ca) - and; रोषः (rōṣaḥ) - anger; च (ca) - and; शैलः (śailaḥ) - the mountain; च (ca) - and; ओमा (ōmā) - Uma; च (ca) - and; सम्भभुः (sambhabhuḥ) - arose;]
Here, the goddess performed austerities desiring Maheshvara; here, desire, anger, the mountain, and Uma all arose. (5-109-7)
अत्र राक्षसयक्षाणां गन्धर्वाणां च गालव। आधिपत्येन कैलासे धनदोऽप्यभिषेचितः ॥५-१०९-८॥
atra rākṣasayakṣāṇāṁ gandharvāṇāṁ ca gālava। ādhipatyēna kailāsē dhanadō’pyabhiṣēcitaḥ ॥5-109-8॥
[अत्र (atra) - here; राक्षसयक्षाणां (rākṣasayakṣāṇāṁ) - of the Rākṣasas and Yakṣas; गन्धर्वाणां (gandharvāṇāṁ) - of the Gandharvas; च (ca) - and; गालव (gālava) - O Gālava; आधिपत्येन (ādhipatyēna) - with sovereignty; कैलासे (kailāsē) - on Kailāsa; धनदः (dhanadaḥ) - Dhanada; अपि (api) - also; अभिषेचितः (abhiṣēcitaḥ) - was installed;]
Here, O Gālava, Dhanada was also installed as the ruler over the Rākṣasas, Yakṣas, and Gandharvas on Kailāsa. (5-109-8)
अत्र चैत्ररथं रम्यमत्र वैखानसाश्रमः। अत्र मन्दाकिनी चैव मन्दरश्च द्विजर्षभ ॥५-१०९-९॥
atra caitrarathaṁ ramyamatra vaikhānasāśramaḥ। atra mandākinī caiva mandaraśca dvijarṣabha ॥5-109-9॥
[अत्र (atra) - here; चैत्ररथं (caitrarathaṁ) - the Caitraratha grove; रम्यम् (ramyam) - beautiful; अत्र (atra) - here; वैखानसाश्रमः (vaikhānasāśramaḥ) - the hermitage of the Vaikhānasas; अत्र (atra) - here; मन्दाकिनी (mandākinī) - the Mandākinī (river); च (ca) - and; एव (ēva) - also; मन्दरः (mandaraḥ) - Mount Mandara; च (ca) - and; द्विजर्षभ (dvijarṣabha) - O best of Brāhmans;]
Here is the beautiful Caitraratha grove, here is the hermitage of the Vaikhānasas, here also is the Mandākinī and Mount Mandara, O best of Brāhmans. (5-109-9)
अत्र सौगन्धिकवनं नैरृतैरभिरक्ष्यते। शाड्वलं कदलीस्कन्धमत्र सन्तानका नगाः ॥५-१०९-१०॥
atra saugandhikavanaṁ nairr̥tairabhirakṣyatē। śāḍvalaṁ kadalīskandhamatra santānakā nagāḥ ॥5-109-10॥
[अत्र (atra) - here; सौगन्धिकवनं (saugandhikavanaṁ) - the Sugandhika grove; नैरृतैः (nairr̥taiḥ) - by spirits; अभिरक्ष्यते (abhirakṣyatē) - is guarded; शाड्वलं (śāḍvalaṁ) - marshes; कदलीस्कन्धम् (kadalīskandham) - banana stems; अत्र (atra) - here; सन्तानकाः (santānakāḥ) - Santāna trees; नगाः (nagāḥ) - trees;]
Here is the Sugandhika grove, guarded by spirits, marshes and banana stems, and here are Santāna trees. (5-109-10)
अत्र संयमनित्यानां सिद्धानां स्वैरचारिणाम्। विमानान्यनुरूपाणि कामभोग्यानि गालव ॥५-१०९-११॥
atra saṁyamanityānāṁ siddhānāṁ svairacāriṇām। vimānānyanurūpāṇi kāmabhōgyāni gālava ॥5-109-11॥
[अत्र (atra) - here; संयम-नित्यानाम् (saṁyama-nityānām) - of those who constantly practise self-restraint; सिद्धानाम् (siddhānām) - of perfected beings; स्वैऱचारिणाम् (svaiऱcāriṇām) - who roam freely; विमानानि (vimānāni) - aerial palaces; अनुरूपाणि (anurūpāṇi) - appropriate; काम-भोग्यानि (kāma-bhōgyāni) - enjoyed according to their wishes; गालव (gālava) - O Gālava;]
Here, O Gālava, are appropriate aerial palaces, pleasurable according to their wishes, for those perfected beings who constantly practise self-restraint and roam freely. (5-109-11)
अत्र ते ऋषयः सप्त देवी चारुन्धती तथा। अत्र तिष्ठति वै स्वातिरत्रास्या उदयः स्मृतः ॥५-१०९-१२॥
atra tē r̥ṣayaḥ sapta dēvī cārundhatī tathā। atra tiṣṭhati vai svātiratrāsyā udayaḥ smr̥taḥ ॥5-109-12॥
[अत्र (atra) - here; ते (tē) - those; ऋषयः (r̥ṣayaḥ) - seers; सप्त (sapta) - seven; देवी (dēvī) - the goddess; चारुन्धती (cārundhatī) - Arundhati; तथा (tathā) - also; अत्र (atra) - here; तिष्ठति (tiṣṭhati) - dwells; वै (vai) - indeed; स्वातिः (svātiḥ) - Svati; अत्र (atra) - here; अस्या (asyā) - of her; उदयः (udayaḥ) - rising; स्मृतः (smr̥taḥ) - is known;]
Here dwell those seven seers, the goddess Arundhati as well; here Svati indeed resides, and her rising is recognized here. (5-109-12)
अत्र यज्ञं समारुह्य ध्रुवं स्थाता पितामहः। ज्योतींषि चन्द्रसूर्यौ च परिवर्तन्ति नित्यशः ॥५-१०९-१३॥
atra yajñaṁ samāruhya dhruvaṁ sthātā pitāmahaḥ। jyōtīṁṣi candrasūryau ca parivartanti nityaśaḥ ॥5-109-13॥
[अत्र (atra) - here; यज्ञम् (yajñam) - the sacrificial altar; समारुह्य (samāruhya) - having ascended; ध्रुवम् (dhruvam) - Dhruva; स्थाता (sthātā) - remains; पितामहः (pitāmahaḥ) - the Grandfather (Brahma); ज्योतींषि (jyōtīṁṣi) - the stars; चन्द्रसूर्यौ (candrasūryau) - the Moon and the Sun; च (ca) - and; परिवर्तन्ति (parivartanti) - revolve; नित्यशः (nityaśaḥ) - constantly;]
Here, having ascended the sacrificial altar, Dhruva stands firm, and the Grandfather; the stars, the Moon, and the Sun revolve constantly. (5-109-13)
अत्र गायन्तिकाद्वारं रक्षन्ति द्विजसत्तमाः। धामा नाम महात्मानो मुनयः सत्यवादिनः ॥५-१०९-१४॥
atra gāyantikādvāraṁ rakṣanti dvijasattamāḥ। dhāmā nāma mahātmānō munayaḥ satyavādinaḥ ॥5-109-14॥
[अत्र (atra) - here; गायन्तिका-द्वारम् (gāyantikā-dvāram) - the gate of the Gayantika; रक्षन्ति (rakṣanti) - guard; द्विज-सत्तमाः (dvija-sattamāḥ) - excellent twice-born ones; धामा नाम (dhāmā nāma) - called Dhama; महात्मानः (mahātmānaḥ) - great-souled; मुनयः (munayaḥ) - sages; सत्यवादिनः (satyavādinaḥ) - speaking truth;]
Here, at the Gayantika gate, dwell great-souled, truth-speaking sages called Dhama, excellent among the twice-born, who serve as guardians. (5-109-14)
न तेषां ज्ञायते सूतिर्नाकृतिर्न तपश्चितम्। परिवर्तसहस्राणि कामभोग्यानि गालव ॥५-१०९-१५॥
na tēṣāṁ jñāyatē sūtirnākr̥tirna tapaścitam। parivartasahasrāṇi kāmabhōgyāni gālava ॥5-109-15॥
[न (na) - not; तेषां (tēṣāṁ) - of them; ज्ञायते (jñāyatē) - is known; सूतिर्न (sūtirna) - birth nor; आकृतिर्न (ākr̥tirna) - appearance nor; तपःचितम् (tapaḥcitam) - cultivated austerity; परिवर्तसहस्राणि (parivartasahasrāṇi) - for thousands of cycles; कामभोग्यानि (kāmabhōgyāni) - enjoyments of pleasure; गालव (gālava) - O Gālava;]
O Gālava, neither their birth, nor their appearance, nor their practiced austerities are known; for thousands of cycles, they remain in enjoyments of pleasure. (5-109-15)
यथा यथा प्रविशति तस्मात्परतरं नरः। तथा तथा द्विजश्रेष्ठ प्रविलीयति गालव ॥५-१०९-१६॥
yathā yathā praviśati tasmātparataraṁ naraḥ। tathā tathā dvijaśrēṣṭha pravilīyati gālava ॥5-109-16॥
[यथा यथा (yathā yathā) - just as; प्रविशति (praviśati) - enters; तस्मात् (tasmāt) - from that; परतरं (parataraṁ) - higher; नरः (naraḥ) - a man; तथा तथा (tathā tathā) - so too; द्विजश्रेष्ठ (dvijaśrēṣṭha) - O best of the twice-born; प्रविलीयति (pravilīyati) - is dissolved; गालव (gālava) - Gālava;]
O best of the twice-born Gālava, just as a man enters a state higher than that, so too he is dissolved. (5-109-16)
न तत्केनचिदन्येन गतपूर्वं द्विजर्षभ। ऋते नारायणं देवं नरं वा जिष्णुमव्ययम् ॥५-१०९-१७॥
na tatkēnacidanyēna gatapūrvaṁ dvijarṣabha। r̥tē nārāyaṇaṁ dēvaṁ naraṁ vā jiṣṇumavyayam ॥5-109-17॥
[न (na) - not; तत् (tat) - that way; केनचित् (kēnacit) - by anyone; अन्येन (anyēna) - else; गतपूर्वं (gatapūrvaṁ) - has been gone before; द्विजर्षभ (dvijarṣabha) - O best of twice-born; ऋते (r̥tē) - except; नारायणं (nārāyaṇaṁ) - Narayana; देवम् (dēvam) - the god; नरं (naraṁ) - Nara; वा (vā) - or; जिष्णुम् (jiṣṇum) - Jishnu; अव्ययम् (avyayam) - the imperishable;]
O best of the twice-born, no one else has ever gone that way except Narayana the god, or Nara, or imperishable Jishnu. (5-109-17)
अत्र कैलासमित्युक्तं स्थानमैलविलस्य तत्। अत्र विद्युत्प्रभा नाम जज्ञिरेऽप्सरसो दश ॥५-१०९-१८॥
atra kailāsamityuktaṁ sthānamailavilasya tat। atra vidyutprabhā nāma jajñirē’psarasō daśa ॥5-109-18॥
[अत्र (atra) - here; कैलासम् (kailāsam) - Kailasa; इति (iti) - by this name; उक्तं (uktaṁ) - is called; स्थानम् (sthānam) - place; ऐलविलस्य (ailavilasya) - of Ilavila; तत् (tat) - that; अत्र (atra) - here; विद्युत्प्रभा (vidyutprabhā) - Vidyuprabha; नाम (nāma) - named; जज्ञिरे (jajñirē) - were born; अप्सरसः (apsarasaḥ) - apsarases; दश (daśa) - ten;]
Here, the place of Ilavila is called Kailasa. Here, ten apsarases named Vidyuprabha were born. (5-109-18)
अत्र विष्णुपदं नाम क्रमता विष्णुना कृतम्। त्रिलोकविक्रमे ब्रह्मन्नुत्तरां दिशमाश्रितम् ॥५-१०९-१९॥
atra viṣṇupadaṁ nāma kramatā viṣṇunā kr̥tam। trilōkavikramē brahmannuttarāṁ diśamāśritam ॥5-109-19॥
[अत्र (atra) - here; विष्णुपदं (viṣṇupadaṁ) - Vishnu's footprint; नाम (nāma) - called; क्रमता (kramatā) - by striding; विष्णुना (viṣṇunā) - by Vishnu; कृतम् (kr̥tam) - was made; त्रिलोकविक्रमे (trilōkavikramē) - in his three-step stride; ब्रह्मन् (brahman) - O Brahman; उत्तरां (uttarāṁ) - the northern; दिशम् (diśam) - direction; आश्रितम् (āśritam) - situated;]
Here, O Brahman, is what is called Vishnu's footprint—made by Vishnu when he strode the three worlds—situated in the northern direction. (5-109-19)
अत्र राज्ञा मरुत्तेन यज्ञेनेष्टं द्विजोत्तम। उशीरबीजे विप्रर्षे यत्र जाम्बूनदं सरः ॥५-१०९-२०॥
atra rājñā maruttēna yajñēnēṣṭaṁ dvijōttama। uśīrabījē viprarṣē yatra jāmbūnadaṁ saraḥ ॥5-109-20॥
[अत्र (atra) - here; राज्ञा मरुत्तेन (rājñā maruttēna) - by King Marutta; यज्ञेन इष्टम् (yajñēna iṣṭam) - a sacrifice was performed; द्विजोत्तम (dvijōttama) - O best of Brāhmins; उशीरबीजे (uśīrabījē) - in Uśīrabīja; विप्रर्षे (viprarṣē) - O Brāhmin sage; यत्र (yatra) - where; जाम्बूनदं (jāmbūnadaṁ) - golden; सरः (saraḥ) - lake;]
Here, O best of Brāhmins, King Marutta performed a sacrifice in Uśīrabīja, O Brāhmin sage, where there is a golden lake. (5-109-20)
जीमूतस्यात्र विप्रर्षेरुपतस्थे महात्मनः। साक्षाद्धैमवतः पुण्यो विमलः कमलाकरः ॥५-१०९-२१॥
jīmūtasyātra viprarṣērupatasthē mahātmanaḥ। sākṣāddhaimavataḥ puṇyō vimalaḥ kamalākaraḥ ॥5-109-21॥
[जीमूतस्य (jīmūtasya) - of Jīmūta; अत्र (atra) - here; विप्रर्षेः (viprarṣēḥ) - of the great sage; उपतस्थे (upatasthē) - stood near; महात्मनः (mahātmanaḥ) - the great-souled one; साक्षात् (sākṣāt) - directly; हैमवतः (haimavataḥ) - from Himavat; पुण्यः (puṇyaḥ) - holy; विमलः (vimalaḥ) - clear; कमलाकरः (kamalākaraḥ) - lotus lake;]
Here, beside the great sage Jīmūta, stood directly a holy, clear lotus lake from the Himalayas. (5-109-21)
ब्राह्मणेषु च यत्कृत्स्नं स्वन्तं कृत्वा धनं महत्। वव्रे वनं महर्षिः स जैमूतं तद्वनं ततः ॥५-१०९-२२॥
brāhmaṇēṣu ca yatkr̥tsnaṁ svantaṁ kr̥tvā dhanaṁ mahat। vavrē vanaṁ maharṣiḥ sa jaimūtaṁ tadvanaṁ tataḥ ॥5-109-22॥
[ब्राह्मणेषु (brāhmaṇēṣu) - among the Brahmins; च (ca) - and; यत् (yat) - whatever; कृत्स्नं (kr̥tsnaṁ) - all; स्वन्तं (svantaṁ) - his own; कृत्वा (kr̥tvā) - having given; धनं (dhanaṁ) - wealth; महत् (mahat) - great; वव्रे (vavrē) - chose; वनं (vanaṁ) - the forest; महर्षिः (maharṣiḥ) - the great sage; स (sa) - he; जैमूतं (jaimūtaṁ) - Jaimuta (the name of the forest); तद् (tad) - that; वनं (vanaṁ) - forest; ततः (tataḥ) - from then on;]
And after distributing all his great wealth among the Brahmins, the great sage chose the Jaimuta forest—thus that forest was called Jaimuta from then on. (5-109-22)
अत्र नित्यं दिशापालाः सायं प्रातर्द्विजर्षभ। कस्य कार्यं किमिति वै परिक्रोशन्ति गालव ॥५-१०९-२३॥
atra nityaṁ diśāpālāḥ sāyaṁ prātardvijarṣabha। kasya kāryaṁ kimiti vai parikrōśanti gālava ॥5-109-23॥
[अत्र (atra) - here; नित्यं (nityaṁ) - constantly; दिशापालाः (diśāpālāḥ) - the guardians of the directions; सायं (sāyaṁ) - in the evening; प्रातः (prātaḥ) - in the morning; द्विजर्षभ (dvijarṣabha) - O best of Brahmins; कस्य (kasya) - whose; कार्यम् (kāryam) - business; किम् (kim) - what; इति (iti) - thus; वै (vai) - indeed; परिक्रोशन्ति (parikrōśanti) - they cry out; गालव (gālava) - O Galava;]
Here, O best of Brahmins, O Galava, the guardians of the directions are always calling out morning and evening, 'Whose business is this, what must be done?' (5-109-23)
एवमेषा द्विजश्रेष्ठ गुणैरन्यैर्दिगुत्तरा। उत्तरेति परिख्याता सर्वकर्मसु चोत्तरा ॥५-१०९-२४॥
ēvamēṣā dvijaśrēṣṭha guṇairanyairdiguttarā। uttarēti parikhyātā sarvakarmasu cōttarā ॥5-109-24॥

In this way, O best of the twice-born, this direction, surpassing others in qualities, is known as the northern one and is considered superior in all undertakings. (5-109-24)
एता विस्तरशस्तात तव सङ्कीर्तिता दिशः। चतस्रः क्रमयोगेन कामाशां गन्तुमिच्छसि ॥५-१०९-२५॥
ētā vistaraśastāta tava saṅkīrtitā diśaḥ। catasraḥ kramayōgēna kāmāśāṁ gantumicchasi ॥5-109-25॥
[एता (ētā) - these; विस्तरशः (vistaraśaḥ) - in detail; तात (tāta) - dear one; तव (tava) - for you; सङ्कीर्तिता (saṅkīrtitā) - have been recounted; दिशः (diśaḥ) - directions; चतस्रः (catasraḥ) - the four; क्रमयोगेन (kramayōgēna) - in order; काम (kāma) - desiring; आशाम् (āśām) - destination; गन्तुम् (gantum) - to go; इच्छसि (icchasi) - you wish;]
These four directions have been described to you in detail, dear one, in order, since you wish to go to your desired destination. (5-109-25)
उद्यतोऽहं द्विजश्रेष्ठ तव दर्शयितुं दिशः। पृथिवीं चाखिलां ब्रह्मंस्तस्मादारोह मां द्विज ॥५-१०९-२६॥
udyatō’haṁ dvijaśrēṣṭha tava darśayituṁ diśaḥ। pr̥thivīṁ cākhilāṁ brahmaṁstasmādārōha māṁ dvija ॥5-109-26॥
