Pancharatra-Ext: After the war, Bhargava expresses his inability to defeat Bhishma. Then Amba, staying aloof, performs severe austerities with the intent to bring harm to Bhishma.

प्रत्यक्षमेतल्लोकानां सर्वेषामेव भामिनि। यथा मया परं शक्त्या कृतं वै पौरुषं महत् ॥५-१८७-१॥
pratyakṣametallokānāṃ sarveṣāmeva bhāmini। yathā mayā paraṃ śaktyā kṛtaṃ vai pauruṣaṃ mahat ॥5-187-1॥
[प्रत्यक्षम् (pratyakṣam) - directly; एतत् (etat) - this; लोकानाम् (lokānām) - of the worlds; सर्वेषाम् (sarveṣām) - of all; एव (eva) - indeed; भामिनि (bhāmini) - O beautiful lady; यथा (yathā) - as; मया (mayā) - by me; परम् (param) - supreme; शक्त्या (śaktyā) - by power; कृतम् (kṛtam) - done; वै (vai) - indeed; पौरुषम् (pauruṣam) - effort; महत् (mahat) - great;]
(Directly this of the worlds of all indeed, O beautiful lady, as by me by supreme power done indeed effort great.)
O beautiful lady, this is directly known to all the worlds, as the great effort has indeed been done by me with supreme power.
न चैव युधि शक्नोमि भीष्मं शस्त्रभृतां वरम्। विशेषयितुमत्यर्थमुत्तमास्त्राणि दर्शयन् ॥५-१८७-२॥
na caiva yudhi śaknomi bhīṣmaṃ śastrabhṛtāṃ varam। viśeṣayitum atyartham uttamāstrāṇi darśayan ॥5-187-2॥

(And certainly, in battle, I am not able to exceedingly distinguish Bhishma, the best of the wielders of weapons, displaying excellent weapons.)
In the battle, I find myself unable to distinguish Bhishma, the greatest among the wielders of weapons, even while displaying the most excellent weapons.
एषा मे परमा शक्तिरेतन्मे परमं बलम्। यथेष्टं गम्यतां भद्रे किमन्यद्वा करोमि ते ॥५-१८७-३॥

भीष्ममेव प्रपद्यस्व न तेऽन्या विद्यते गतिः। निर्जितो ह्यस्मि भीष्मेण महास्त्राणि प्रमुञ्चता ॥५-१८७-४॥

(Surrender only to Bhishma; no other way exists for you. Indeed, I am conquered by Bhishma releasing great weapons.)

भगवन्नेवमेवैतद्यथाह भगवांस्तथा। अजेयो युधि भीष्मोऽयमपि देवैरुदारधीः ॥५-१८७-६॥

(O Lord, thus indeed, this is as the Lord said, so Bhishma is invincible in battle, also by the gods, noble-minded.)

यथाशक्ति यथोत्साहं मम कार्यं कृतं त्वया। अनिधाय रणे वीर्यमस्त्राणि विविधानि च ॥५-१८७-७॥
yathāśakti yathotsāhaṃ mama kāryaṃ kṛtaṃ tvayā। anidhāya raṇe vīryamastrāṇi vividhāni ca ॥5-187-7॥

न चैष शक्यते युद्धे विशेषयितुमन्ततः। न चाहमेनं यास्यामि पुनर्भीष्मं कथञ्चन ॥५-१८७-८॥
na caiṣa śakyate yuddhe viśeṣayitumantataḥ। na cāhamenaṃ yāsyāmi punarbhīṣmaṃ kathaṃcana ॥5-187-8॥

(Thus, having spoken, the girl with eyes agitated by anger went for penance, with a firm resolve, thinking of my destruction.)

अपि चैतन्मया राजन्नारदेऽपि निवेदितम्। व्यासे चैव भयात्कार्यं तौ चोभौ मामवोचताम् ॥५-१८७-१६॥

निराहारा कृशा रूक्षा जटिला मलपङ्किनी। षण्मासान्वायुभक्षा च स्थाणुभूता तपोधना ॥५-१८७-१९॥
