 Core and Pancharatra: Arjuna assures Yudhisthira he will sacrifice his own life, but will not allow Drona to capture him. By midday, Drona disperses Pandava army led by Drishtadyumna.

tataste sainikāḥ śrutvā taṃ yudhiṣṭhiranigraham। siṃhanādaravāṃścakrurbāṇaśaṅkharavaiḥ saha ॥7-12-1॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; ते (te) - they; सैनिकाः (sainikāḥ) - soldiers; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; तं (taṃ) - that; युधिष्ठिर (yudhiṣṭhira) - Yudhishthira; निग्रहम् (nigraham) - capture; सिंहनादरवाः (siṃhanādaravāḥ) - lion's roar sounds; चक्रुः (cakruḥ) - made; बाण (bāṇa) - arrows; शङ्खरवैः (śaṅkharavaiḥ) - conch sounds; सह (saha) - with;]
(Then the soldiers, having heard that capture of Yudhishthira, made lion's roar sounds with arrows and conch sounds.)
Upon hearing about the capture of Yudhishthira, the soldiers roared like lions and sounded their conches and arrows.
तत्तु सर्वं यथावृत्तं धर्मराजेन भारत। आप्तैराशु परिज्ञातं भारद्वाजचिकीर्षितम् ॥७-१२-२॥
tattu sarvaṃ yathāvṛttaṃ dharmarājena bhārata। āptairāśu parijñātaṃ bhāradvājacikīrṣitam ॥7-12-2॥
[तत् (tat) - that; तु (tu) - but; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; यथावृत्तम् (yathāvṛttam) - as it happened; धर्मराजेन (dharmarājena) - by Dharmaraja; भारत (bhārata) - O Bharata; आप्तैः (āptaiḥ) - by the trusted ones; आशु (āśu) - quickly; परिज्ञातम् (parijñātam) - was known; भारद्वाजचिकीर्षितम् (bhāradvājacikīrṣitam) - the intention of Bharadvaja;]
(But all that, as it happened, was quickly known by the trusted ones to Dharmaraja, O Bharata, the intention of Bharadvaja.)
O Bharata, Dharmaraja quickly learned all that had happened through his trusted ones, regarding the intention of Bharadvaja.
ततः सर्वान्समानाय्य भ्रातॄन्सैन्यांश्च सर्वशः। अब्रवीद्धर्मराजस्तु धनञ्जयमिदं वचः ॥७-१२-३॥
tataḥ sarvānsamānāyya bhrātṝnsainyāṃśca sarvaśaḥ। abravīddharmarājastu dhanañjayamidaṃ vacaḥ ॥7-12-3॥

(Then, having gathered all the brothers and armies completely, Dharmaraja said these words to Dhananjaya.)
Dharmaraja, after assembling all his brothers and the entire army, addressed Dhananjaya with these words.
श्रुतं ते पुरुषव्याघ्र द्रोणस्याद्य चिकीर्षितम्। यथा तन्न भवेत्सत्यं तथा नीतिर्विधीयताम् ॥७-१२-४॥
śrutaṃ te puruṣavyāghra droṇasyādya cikīrṣitam। yathā tanna bhavetsatyaṃ tathā nītirvidhīyatām ॥7-12-4॥
[श्रुतं (śrutam) - heard; ते (te) - your; पुरुषव्याघ्र (puruṣavyāghra) - tiger among men; द्रोणस्य (droṇasya) - of Drona; आद्य (ādya) - today; चिकीर्षितम् (cikīrṣitam) - intended; यथा (yathā) - so that; तत् (tat) - that; न (na) - not; भवेत् (bhavet) - becomes; सत्यं (satyaṃ) - true; तथा (tathā) - thus; नीतिः (nītiḥ) - policy; विधीयताम् (vidhīyatām) - should be established;]
(Heard your, tiger among men, of Drona today intended. So that that not becomes true, thus policy should be established.)
"O tiger among men, you have heard today what Drona intends. Ensure that it does not come true by establishing the right policy."
सान्तरं हि प्रतिज्ञातं द्रोणेनामित्रकर्शन। तच्चान्तरममोघेषौ त्वयि तेन समाहितम् ॥७-१२-५॥
sāntaraṃ hi pratijñātaṃ droṇenāmitrakarśana। taccāntaramamogheṣau tvayi tena samāhitam ॥7-12-5॥
[सान्तरम् (sāntaram) - with end; हि (hi) - indeed; प्रतिज्ञातम् (pratijñātam) - promised; द्रोणेन (droṇena) - by Drona; अमित्रकर्शन (amitrakarśana) - O enemy-scorcher; तत् (tat) - that; च (ca) - and; अन्तरम् (antaram) - gap; अमोघेषौ (amogheṣau) - infallible arrows; त्वयि (tvayi) - in you; तेन (tena) - by him; समाहितम् (samāhitam) - fixed;]
(Indeed, the end was promised by Drona, O enemy-scorcher. That gap was fixed in you by him with infallible arrows.)

स त्वमद्य महाबाहो युध्यस्व मदनन्तरम्। यथा दुर्योधनः कामं नेमं द्रोणादवाप्नुयात् ॥७-१२-६॥
sa tvamadya mahābāho yudhyasva madanantaram। yathā duryodhanaḥ kāmaṃ nemaṃ droṇādavāpnuyāt ॥7-12-6॥
[स (sa) - you; त्वम् (tvam) - you; अद्य (adya) - today; महाबाहो (mahābāho) - mighty-armed one; युध्यस्व (yudhyasva) - fight; मदनन्तरम् (madanantaram) - after me; यथा (yathā) - so that; दुर्योधनः (duryodhanaḥ) - Duryodhana; कामम् (kāmam) - desire; न (na) - not; इमम् (imam) - this; द्रोणात् (droṇāt) - from Drona; अवाप्नुयात् (avāpnuyāt) - may obtain;]
(You, mighty-armed one, fight today after me, so that Duryodhana may not obtain this desire from Drona.)

[यथा (yathā) - as; मे (me) - my; न (na) - not; वधः (vadhaḥ) - killing; कार्य (kārya) - to be done; आचार्यस्य (ācāryasya) - of the teacher; कथञ्चन (kathañcana) - in any way; तथा (tathā) - so; तव (tava) - your; परित्यागः (parityāgaḥ) - abandonment; न (na) - not; मे (me) - my; राजन् (rājan) - O king; चिकीर्षितः (cikīrṣitaḥ) - intended;]
(As my killing of the teacher is not to be done in any way, so your abandonment is not intended by me, O king.)
Just as I should not kill the teacher in any way, similarly, O king, I do not intend to abandon you.
अप्येवं पाण्डव प्राणानुत्सृजेयमहं युधि। प्रतीयां नाहमाचार्यं त्वां न जह्यां कथञ्चन ॥७-१२-८॥
apyevaṃ pāṇḍava prāṇānutsṛjeyamahaṃ yudhi। pratīyāṃ nāhamācāryaṃ tvāṃ na jahyāṃ kathaṃcana ॥7-12-8॥
[अपि (api) - even; एवं (evaṃ) - thus; पाण्डव (pāṇḍava) - O son of Pandu; प्राणान् (prāṇān) - life; उत्सृजेयम् (utsṛjeyam) - I would give up; अहम् (aham) - I; युधि (yudhi) - in battle; प्रतीयाम् (pratīyām) - I would perceive; न (na) - not; अहम् (aham) - I; आचार्यम् (ācāryam) - teacher; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; न (na) - not; जह्याम् (jahyām) - I would abandon; कथञ्चन (kathaṃcana) - in any way;]
(Even thus, O son of Pandu, I would give up my life in battle; I would not perceive you, my teacher, nor would I abandon you in any way.)

त्वां निगृह्याहवे राजन्धार्तराष्ट्रो यमिच्छति। न स तं जीवलोकेऽस्मिन्कामं प्राप्तः कथञ्चन ॥७-१२-९॥
tvāṃ nigṛhyāhave rājandhārtarāṣṭro yamicchati। na sa taṃ jīvaloke'sminkāmaṃ prāptaḥ kathaṃcana ॥7-12-9॥
[त्वां (tvām) - you; निगृह्य (nigṛhya) - having seized; आहवे (āhave) - in battle; राजन् (rājan) - O king; धार्तराष्ट्रः (dhārtarāṣṭraḥ) - Dhritarashtra's son; यम् (yam) - whom; इच्छति (icchati) - desires; न (na) - not; सः (saḥ) - he; तम् (tam) - that; जीवलोके (jīvaloke) - in the world of the living; अस्मिन् (asmin) - in this; कामम् (kāmam) - desire; प्राप्तः (prāptaḥ) - obtained; कथञ्चन (kathaṃcana) - in any way;]
(Having seized you in battle, O king, Dhritarashtra's son desires whom. He has not obtained that desire in this world of the living in any way.)
O king, having captured you in battle, Dhritarashtra's son desires something. However, he has not achieved that desire in this world in any way.
प्रपतेद्द्यौः सनक्षत्रा पृथिवी शकलीभवेत्। न त्वां द्रोणो निगृह्णीयाज्जीवमाने मयि ध्रुवम् ॥७-१२-१०॥
prapateddyauḥ sanakṣatrā pṛthivī śakalībhavet। na tvāṃ droṇo nigṛhṇīyājjīvamāne mayi dhruvam ॥7-12-10॥
[प्रपतेत् (prapatet) - would fall; द्यौः (dyauḥ) - sky; सनक्षत्रा (sanakṣatrā) - with stars; पृथिवी (pṛthivī) - earth; शकलीभवेत् (śakalībhavet) - would shatter; न (na) - not; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; द्रोणः (droṇaḥ) - Drona; निगृह्णीयात् (nigṛhṇīyāt) - would capture; जीवमाने (jīvamāne) - living; मयि (mayi) - in me; ध्रुवम् (dhruvam) - certainly;]
(The sky with stars would fall, the earth would shatter; Drona would not capture you while I am living, certainly.)
Even if the sky with its stars were to fall and the earth were to shatter, Drona would not capture you as long as I am alive, certainly.
यदि तस्य रणे साह्यं कुरुते वज्रभृत्स्वयम्। देवैर्वा सहितो दैत्यैर्न त्वां प्राप्स्यत्यसौ मृधे ॥७-१२-११॥
yadi tasya raṇe sāhyaṃ kurute vajrabhṛtsvayam। devairvā sahito daityairna tvāṃ prāpsyatyasau mṛdhe ॥7-12-11॥

(If Indra himself or accompanied by gods or demons helps him in battle, he will not obtain you in battle.)
Even if Indra himself, along with gods or demons, assists him in battle, he will not be able to defeat you.
मयि जीवति राजेन्द्र न भयं कर्तुमर्हसि। द्रोणादस्त्रभृतां श्रेष्ठात्सर्वशस्त्रभृतामपि ॥७-१२-१२॥
mayi jīvati rājendra na bhayaṃ kartum arhasi। droṇādastrabhr̥tāṃ śreṣṭhātsarvaśastrabhr̥tāmapi ॥7-12-12॥
[मयि (mayi) - in me; जीवति (jīvati) - living; राजेन्द्र (rājendra) - O king; न (na) - not; भयम् (bhayam) - fear; कर्तुम् (kartum) - to do; अर्हसि (arhasi) - you should; द्रोणात् (droṇāt) - than Drona; अस्त्रभृताम् (astrabhr̥tām) - of the wielders of weapons; श्रेष्ठात् (śreṣṭhāt) - better; सर्व (sarva) - all; शस्त्रभृताम् (śastrabhr̥tām) - of the wielders of arms; अपि (api) - also;]
(While I am alive, O king, you should not fear anyone better than Drona, the best of all wielders of weapons.)
O King, as long as I am alive, you need not fear anyone, even those superior to Drona, the greatest among all warriors.
न स्मराम्यनृतां वाचं न स्मरामि पराजयम्। न स्मरामि प्रतिश्रुत्य किञ्चिदप्यनपाकृतम् ॥७-१२-१३॥
na smarāmy anṛtāṃ vācaṃ na smarāmi parājayam। na smarāmi pratiśrutya kiñcid apy anapākṛtam ॥7-12-13॥

(The lion's roar arose from the Pandavas, the great souls, and the sound of the bowstring touching the sky was very terrifying.)
The Pandavas, known for their greatness, let out a lion's roar, and the sound of their bowstrings echoed through the sky, creating a very terrifying atmosphere.
तं श्रुत्वा शङ्खनिर्घोषं पाण्डवस्य महात्मनः। त्वदीयेष्वप्यनीकेषु वादित्राण्यभिजघ्निरे ॥७-१२-१६॥

(Then commenced a fierce, hair-raising battle of the Pandavas and the Kauravas, and also between Drona and the Panchalas.)

(Endeavoring with effort to penetrate Drona's army, the Srinjayas, O king, were not able, for it was protected by Drona.)

तथैव तव पुत्रस्य रथोदाराः प्रहारिणः। न शेकुः पाण्डवीं सेनां पाल्यमानां किरीटिना ॥७-१२-२०॥
tathaiva tava putrasya rathodārāḥ prahāriṇaḥ। na śekuḥ pāṇḍavīṃ senāṃ pālyamānāṃ kirīṭinā ॥7-12-20॥

आस्तां ते स्तिमिते सेने रक्ष्यमाणे परस्परम्। सम्प्रसुप्ते यथा नक्तं वनराज्यौ सुपुष्पिते ॥७-१२-२१॥
āstāṁ te stimite sene rakṣyamāṇe parasparam। samprasupte yathā naktaṁ vanarājyau supuṣpite ॥7-12-21॥

(And not anyone of the Pandavas, O honorable one, is able to look upon this angry one in battle, like the demons upon Mahendra.)
O honorable one, none among the Pandavas can face him when he is angry in battle, just as demons cannot face Mahendra.
मोहयित्वा ततः सैन्यं भारद्वाजः प्रतापवान्। धृष्टद्युम्नबलं तूर्णं व्यधमन्निशितैः शरैः ॥७-१२-२७॥
