Core and Pancharatra: Half-moon chariot formation by Trigarthas to attack Arjuna. Arjuna kills Sudhanvan, which makes them retreat. Susharman rallies Trigarthas again reminding them of the oath taken, and they attack.

ततः संशप्तका राजन्समे देशे व्यवस्थिताः। व्यूह्यानीकं रथैरेव चन्द्रार्धाख्यं मुदान्विताः ॥७-१७-१॥
tataḥ saṃśaptakā rājansame deśe vyavasthitāḥ। vyūhyānīkaṃ rathaireva candrārdhākhyaṃ mudānvitāḥ ॥7-17-1॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; संशप्तकाः (saṃśaptakāḥ) - the warriors sworn to conquer or die; राजन् (rājan) - O king; समे (same) - in the same; देशे (deśe) - place; व्यवस्थिताः (vyavasthitāḥ) - were positioned; व्यूह्य (vyūhya) - having arranged; आनीकं (ānīkaṃ) - the army; रथैः (rathaiḥ) - with chariots; एव (eva) - only; चन्द्रार्धाख्यम् (candrārdhākhyam) - called the half-moon; मुदा (mudā) - with joy; अन्विताः (anvitāḥ) - endowed;]
(Then, O king, the warriors sworn to conquer or die were positioned in the same place, having arranged the army with chariots only, called the half-moon, endowed with joy.)
Then, O king, the warriors who had vowed to fight to the death were joyfully positioned in the same place, arranging their army in a formation known as the half-moon using only chariots.
ते किरीटिनमायान्तं दृष्ट्वा हर्षेण मारिष। उदक्रोशन्नरव्याघ्राः शब्देन महता तदा ॥७-१७-२॥
te kirīṭinam āyāntaṃ dṛṣṭvā harṣeṇa māriṣa। udakrośann aravyāghrāḥ śabdena mahatā tadā ॥7-17-2॥
[ते (te) - they; किरीटिनम् (kirīṭinam) - the one with a crown; आयान्तम् (āyāntam) - coming; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; हर्षेण (harṣeṇa) - with joy; मारिष (māriṣa) - O gentle one; उदक्रोशन (udakrośan) - cried out; नरव्याघ्राः (naravyāghrāḥ) - tiger among men; शब्देन (śabdena) - with sound; महता (mahatā) - great; तदा (tadā) - then;]
(They, having seen the one with a crown coming, cried out with joy, O gentle one, the tigers among men, with a great sound, then.)
Upon seeing the crowned one approaching, the warriors, filled with joy, cried out loudly, O gentle one, like tigers among men.
स शब्दः प्रदिशः सर्वा दिशः खं च समावृणोत्। आवृतत्वाच्च लोकस्य नासीत्तत्र प्रतिस्वनः ॥७-१७-३॥
sa śabdaḥ pradiśaḥ sarvā diśaḥ khaṃ ca samāvṛṇot। āvṛtatvācca lokasya nāsīttatra pratisvanaḥ ॥7-17-3॥
[स (sa) - that; शब्दः (śabdaḥ) - sound; प्रदिशः (pradiśaḥ) - directions; सर्वा (sarvā) - all; दिशः (diśaḥ) - quarters; खं (khaṃ) - sky; च (ca) - and; समावृणोत् (samāvṛṇot) - covered; आवृतत्वात् (āvṛtatvāt) - due to covering; च (ca) - and; लोकस्य (lokasya) - of the world; न (na) - not; आसीत् (āsīt) - was; तत्र (tatra) - there; प्रतिस्वनः (pratisvanaḥ) - echo;]
(That sound covered all the directions, the quarters, and the sky. Due to the covering of the world, there was no echo.)
The sound enveloped all directions, the entire sky, and the world, leaving no room for an echo to exist.
अतीव सम्प्रहृष्टांस्तानुपलभ्य धनञ्जयः। किञ्चिदभ्युत्स्मयन्कृष्णमिदं वचनमब्रवीत् ॥७-१७-४॥
atīva samprahṛṣṭāṃstānupalabhya dhanañjayaḥ। kiñcidabhyutsmayankṛṣṇamidaṃ vacanamabravīt ॥7-17-4॥
[अतीव (atīva) - extremely; सम्प्रहृष्टान् (samprahṛṣṭān) - delighted; तान् (tān) - them; उपलभ्य (upalabhya) - having seen; धनञ्जयः (dhanañjayaḥ) - Arjuna; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - slightly; अभ्युत्स्मयन् (abhyutsmayan) - smiling; कृष्णम् (kṛṣṇam) - Krishna; इदम् (idam) - this; वचनम् (vacanam) - speech; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said;]
(Having seen them extremely delighted, Arjuna, slightly smiling, said this speech to Krishna.)
Seeing them extremely delighted, Arjuna, with a slight smile, spoke these words to Krishna.
पश्यैतान्देवकीमातर्मुमूर्षूनद्य संयुगे। भ्रातॄंस्त्रैगर्तकानेवं रोदितव्ये प्रहर्षितान् ॥७-१७-५॥
paśyaitāndevakīmātarmumūrṣūnadya saṃyuge। bhrātṝṃstraigartakānevaṃ roditavye praharṣitān ॥7-17-5॥
[पश्य (paśya) - see; एतान् (etān) - these; देवकी (devakī) - Devaki; मातर् (mātar) - mother; मुमूर्षून् (mumūrṣūn) - desiring to die; अद्य (adya) - today; संयुगे (saṃyuge) - in battle; भ्रातॄन् (bhrātṝn) - brothers; त्रैगर्तकान् (traigartakān) - the Trigartas; एवम् (evam) - thus; रोदितव्ये (roditavye) - to be lamented; प्रहर्षितान् (praharṣitān) - elated;]
(See these, O mother Devaki, desiring to die today in battle, the brothers, the Trigartas, thus to be lamented, elated.)
O mother Devaki, behold these Trigarta brothers who, elated and desiring to die, stand in battle today, thus to be lamented.
अथ वा हर्षकालोऽयं त्रैगर्तानामसंशयम्। कुनरैर्दुरवापान्हि लोकान्प्राप्स्यन्त्यनुत्तमान् ॥७-१७-६॥
atha vā harṣakālo'yaṃ traigartānām asaṃśayam। kunarair duravāpān hi lokān prāpsyanty anuttamān ॥7-17-6॥
[अथ (atha) - then; वा (vā) - or; हर्षकालः (harṣakālaḥ) - time of joy; अयम् (ayam) - this; त्रैगर्तानाम् (traigartānām) - of the Traigartas; असंशयम् (asaṃśayam) - undoubtedly; कुनरैः (kunaraiḥ) - by the Kunaras; दुरवापान् (duravāpān) - difficult to obtain; हि (hi) - indeed; लोकान् (lokān) - worlds; प्राप्स्यन्ति (prāpsyanti) - will attain; अनुत्तमान् (anuttamān) - excellent;]
(Then or this is undoubtedly the time of joy for the Traigartas. Indeed, the Kunaras will attain the excellent worlds that are difficult to obtain.)

एवमुक्त्वा महाबाहुर्हृषीकेशं ततोऽर्जुनः। आससाद रणे व्यूढां त्रैगर्तानामनीकिनीम् ॥७-१७-७॥
evamuktvā mahābāhurhṛṣīkeśaṃ tato'rjunaḥ। āsasāda raṇe vyūḍhāṃ traigartānāmanīkinīm ॥7-17-7॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having spoken; महाबाहुः (mahābāhuḥ) - mighty-armed; हृषीकेशम् (hṛṣīkeśam) - Hṛṣīkeśa; ततः (tataḥ) - then; अर्जुनः (arjunaḥ) - Arjuna; आससाद (āsasāda) - approached; रणे (raṇe) - in battle; व्यूढाम् (vyūḍhām) - arrayed; त्रैगर्तानाम् (traigartānām) - of the Trigartas; अनीकिनीम् (anīkinīm) - army;]
(Thus, having spoken to Hṛṣīkeśa, the mighty-armed Arjuna then approached the arrayed army of the Trigartas in battle.)
After speaking thus to Hṛṣīkeśa, the mighty-armed Arjuna approached the battle formation of the Trigarta army.
स देवदत्तमादाय शङ्खं हेमपरिष्कृतम्। दध्मौ वेगेन महता फल्गुनः पूरयन्दिशः ॥७-१७-८॥
sa devadattamādāya śaṅkhaṃ hemapariṣkṛtam। dadhmau vegena mahatā phalgunaḥ pūrayandiśaḥ ॥7-17-8॥
[स (sa) - he; देवदत्तम् (devadattam) - Devadatta; आदाय (ādāya) - taking; शङ्खम् (śaṅkham) - conch; हेम (hema) - gold; परिष्कृतम् (pariṣkṛtam) - adorned; दध्मौ (dadhmau) - blew; वेगेन (vegena) - with speed; महता (mahatā) - great; फल्गुनः (phalgunaḥ) - Arjuna; पूरयन् (pūrayan) - filling; दिशः (diśaḥ) - directions;]
(He, taking the conch Devadatta, adorned with gold, blew it with great speed, Arjuna, filling the directions.)
Arjuna, taking the beautifully adorned golden conch named Devadatta, blew it with great force, filling all directions with its sound.
तेन शब्देन वित्रस्ता संशप्तकवरूथिनी। निश्चेष्टावस्थिता सङ्क्ये अश्मसारमयी यथा ॥७-१७-९॥
tena śabdena vitrastā saṃśaptakavarūthinī। niśceṣṭāvasthitā saṅkye aśmasāramayī yathā ॥7-17-9॥
[तेन (tena) - by that; शब्देन (śabdena) - by sound; वित्रस्ता (vitrastā) - frightened; संशप्तकवरूथिनी (saṃśaptakavarūthinī) - the army of the Saṃśaptakas; निश्चेष्टावस्थिता (niśceṣṭāvasthitā) - motionless; सङ्क्ये (saṅkye) - in the battlefield; अश्मसारमयी (aśmasāramayī) - like a stone; यथा (yathā) - as;]
(By that sound, the army of the Saṃśaptakas, frightened, stood motionless in the battlefield, like a stone.)
The sound caused the Saṃśaptaka army to become frightened and stand still in the battlefield, as if they were turned to stone.
वाहास्तेषां विवृत्ताक्षाः स्तब्धकर्णशिरोधराः। विष्टब्धचरणा मूत्रं रुधिरं च प्रसुस्रुवुः ॥७-१७-१०॥
vāhāsteṣāṃ vivṛttākṣāḥ stabdhakarṇaśirodharāḥ। viṣṭabdhacaraṇā mūtraṃ rudhiraṃ ca prasusruvuḥ ॥7-17-10॥
[वाहाः (vāhāḥ) - horses; तेषां (teṣāṃ) - their; विवृत्त (vivṛtta) - turned; अक्षाः (akṣāḥ) - eyes; स्तब्ध (stabdha) - stiff; कर्ण (karṇa) - ears; शिरोधराः (śirodharāḥ) - head-holding; विष्टब्ध (viṣṭabdha) - rigid; चरणा (caraṇā) - legs; मूत्रं (mūtraṃ) - urine; रुधिरं (rudhiraṃ) - blood; च (ca) - and; प्रसुस्रुवुः (prasusruvuḥ) - flowed;]
(Their horses, with turned eyes, stiff ears, and rigid legs, flowed urine and blood.)
Their horses, with eyes turned, ears stiffened, and heads held high, stood with rigid legs as urine and blood flowed from them.
उपलभ्य च ते सञ्ज्ञामवस्थाप्य च वाहिनीम्। युगपत्पाण्डुपुत्राय चिक्षिपुः कङ्कपत्रिणः ॥७-१७-११॥
upalabhya ca te sañjñāmavasthāpya ca vāhinīm। yugapat-pāṇḍuputrāya cikṣipuḥ kaṅkapatriṇaḥ ॥7-17-11॥
[उपलभ्य (upalabhya) - having perceived; च (ca) - and; ते (te) - they; सञ्ज्ञाम् (sañjñām) - signal; अवस्थाप्य (avasthāpya) - having arranged; च (ca) - and; वाहिनीम् (vāhinīm) - army; युगपत् (yugapat) - simultaneously; पाण्डुपुत्राय (pāṇḍuputrāya) - to the son of Pandu; चिक्षिपुः (cikṣipuḥ) - they released; कङ्कपत्रिणः (kaṅkapatriṇaḥ) - arrows;]
(Having perceived the signal and having arranged the army, they simultaneously released arrows to the son of Pandu.)
Upon perceiving the signal and arranging their forces, they simultaneously launched arrows at the son of Pandu.
तान्यर्जुनः सहस्राणि दश पञ्चैव चाशुगैः। अनागतान्येव शरैश्चिच्छेदाशुपराक्रमः ॥७-१७-१२॥
tānyarjunaḥ sahasrāṇi daśa pañcaiva cāśugaiḥ। anāgatānyeva śaraiścicchedāśuparākramaḥ ॥7-17-12॥
[तानि (tāni) - those; अर्जुनः (arjunaḥ) - Arjuna; सहस्राणि (sahasrāṇi) - thousands; दश (daśa) - ten; पञ्च (pañca) - five; एव (eva) - indeed; च (ca) - and; आशुगैः (āśugaiḥ) - with swift; अनागतानि (anāgatāni) - unarrived; एव (eva) - indeed; शरैः (śaraiḥ) - arrows; चिच्छेद (ciccheda) - cut; आशुपराक्रमः (āśuparākramaḥ) - swift-acting;]
(Arjuna, with swift arrows, cut those thousands, ten and five, that had not yet arrived, with swift action.)
Arjuna swiftly cut down those thousands of arrows, ten and five, with his swift action, even before they arrived.
ततोऽर्जुनं शितैर्बाणैर्दशभिर्दशभिः पुनः। प्रत्यविध्यंस्ततः पार्थस्तानविध्यत्त्रिभिस्त्रिभिः ॥७-१७-१३॥
tato'rjunaṁ śitairbāṇairdaśabhirdaśabhiḥ punaḥ। pratyavidhyaṁstataḥ pārthastānavidhyattribhistribhiḥ ॥7-17-13॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; अर्जुनम् (arjunam) - Arjuna; शितैः (śitaiḥ) - sharp; बाणैः (bāṇaiḥ) - arrows; दशभिः (daśabhiḥ) - with ten; दशभिः (daśabhiḥ) - with ten; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; प्रत्यविध्यत् (pratyavidhyat) - pierced; ततः (tataḥ) - then; पार्थः (pārthaḥ) - son of Pritha (Arjuna); तान् (tān) - them; अविध्यत् (avidhyat) - pierced; त्रिभिः (tribhiḥ) - with three; त्रिभिः (tribhiḥ) - with three;]
(Then Arjuna, with ten sharp arrows, pierced again; then Partha pierced them with three each.)
Then Arjuna, with ten sharp arrows, struck again; then Partha (Arjuna) pierced them with three arrows each.
एकैकस्तु ततः पार्थं राजन्विव्याध पञ्चभिः। स च तान्प्रतिविव्याध द्वाभ्यां द्वाभ्यां पराक्रमी ॥७-१७-१४॥
ekaikastu tataḥ pārthaṃ rājanvivyādha pañcabhiḥ। sa ca tānprativivyādha dvābhyāṃ dvābhyāṃ parākramī ॥7-17-14॥
[एकैकः (ekaikaḥ) - each one; तु (tu) - but; ततः (tataḥ) - then; पार्थम् (pārtham) - Arjuna; राजन् (rājan) - O king; विव्याध (vivyādha) - pierced; पञ्चभिः (pañcabhiḥ) - with five; सः (saḥ) - he; च (ca) - and; तान् (tān) - them; प्रतिविव्याध (prativivyādha) - pierced back; द्वाभ्याम् (dvābhyām) - with two; द्वाभ्याम् (dvābhyām) - with two; पराक्रमी (parākramī) - the mighty;]
(Each one then pierced Arjuna, O king, with five arrows. And he, the mighty one, pierced them back with two arrows each.)
Each warrior then struck Arjuna with five arrows, O king. In return, the mighty Arjuna struck them back with two arrows each.
भूय एव तु संरब्धास्तेऽर्जुनं सहकेशवम्। आपूरयञ्शरैस्तीक्ष्णैस्तटाकमिव वृष्टिभिः ॥७-१७-१५॥
bhūya eva tu saṁrabdhās te 'rjunaṁ saha-keśavam। āpūrayañ śaraiḥ tīkṣṇaiḥ taṭākam iva vṛṣṭibhiḥ ॥7-17-15॥
[भूयः (bhūyaḥ) - again; एव (eva) - indeed; तु (tu) - but; संरब्धाः (saṁrabdhāḥ) - excited; ते (te) - they; अर्जुनम् (arjunam) - Arjuna; सह (saha) - with; केशवम् (keśavam) - Keshava; आपूरयन् (āpūrayān) - filling; शरैः (śaraiḥ) - with arrows; तीक्ष्णैः (tīkṣṇaiḥ) - sharp; तटाकम् (taṭākam) - lake; इव (iva) - like; वृष्टिभिः (vṛṣṭibhiḥ) - with showers;]
(Again, indeed, but excited they Arjuna with Keshava filling with arrows sharp lake like with showers.)
Once again, they, excited, filled Arjuna and Keshava with sharp arrows, like a lake is filled with showers.
ततः शरसहस्राणि प्रापतन्नर्जुनं प्रति। भ्रमराणामिव व्राताः फुल्लद्रुमगणे वने ॥७-१७-१६॥
tataḥ śarasahasrāṇi prāpatannarjunaṃ prati। bhramarāṇāmiva vrātāḥ phulladrumagaṇe vane ॥7-17-16॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; शरसहस्राणि (śarasahasrāṇi) - thousands of arrows; प्रापतन् (prāpatan) - fell; अर्जुनं (arjunam) - Arjuna; प्रति (prati) - towards; भ्रमराणाम् (bhramarāṇām) - of bees; इव (iva) - like; व्राताः (vrātāḥ) - swarms; फुल्लद्रुमगणे (phulladrumagaṇe) - in the blooming trees; वने (vane) - in the forest;]
(Then thousands of arrows fell towards Arjuna, like swarms of bees in the blooming trees in the forest.)
Then, thousands of arrows descended upon Arjuna, resembling swarms of bees amidst the blooming trees in the forest.
ततः सुबाहुस्त्रिंशद्भिरद्रिसारमयैर्दृढैः। अविध्यदिषुभिर्गाढं किरीटे सव्यसाचिनम् ॥७-१७-१७॥
tataḥ subāhustriṁśadbhiradrisāramayairdṛḍhaiḥ। avidhyadiśubhirgāḍhaṁ kirīṭe savyasācinam ॥7-17-17॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; सुबाहुः (subāhuḥ) - Subahu; त्रिंशद्भिः (triṁśadbhiḥ) - with thirty; अद्रिसारमयैः (adrisāramayaiḥ) - made of mountain essence; दृढैः (dṛḍhaiḥ) - strong; अविध्यत् (avidhyat) - pierced; इषुभिः (iśubhiḥ) - with arrows; गाढं (gāḍhaṁ) - deeply; किरीटे (kirīṭe) - in the crown; सव्यसाचिनम् (savyasācinam) - Arjuna;]
(Then Subahu, with thirty strong arrows made of mountain essence, deeply pierced Arjuna in the crown.)
Then Subahu shot thirty strong arrows made from the essence of mountains, deeply piercing Arjuna's crown.
तैः किरीटी किरीटस्थैर्हेमपुङ्खैरजिह्मगैः। शातकुम्भमयापीडो बभौ यूप इवोच्छ्रितः ॥७-१७-१८॥
taiḥ kirīṭī kirīṭasthairhemapuṅkhairajihmagaiḥ। śātakumbhamayāpīḍo babhau yūpa ivochritaḥ ॥7-17-18॥
[तैः (taiḥ) - by them; किरीटी (kirīṭī) - the one with a crown; किरीटस्थैः (kirīṭasthaiḥ) - with those on the crown; हेमपुङ्खैः (hemapuṅkhaiḥ) - with golden feathers; अजिह्मगैः (ajihmagaiḥ) - straight-moving; शातकुम्भमयापीडः (śātakumbhamayāpīḍaḥ) - with a golden crest; बभौ (babhau) - shone; यूपः (yūpaḥ) - sacrificial post; इव (iva) - like; उच्छ्रितः (uchritaḥ) - erected;]
(By them, the one with a crown, with those on the crown, with golden feathers, straight-moving, with a golden crest, shone like an erected sacrificial post.)
The crowned one, adorned with golden feathers and a golden crest, stood tall and radiant like a sacrificial post.
हस्तावापं सुबाहोस्तु भल्लेन युधि पाण्डवः। चिच्छेद तं चैव पुनः शरवर्षैरवाकिरत् ॥७-१७-१९॥
hastāvāpaṃ subāhostu bhallena yudhi pāṇḍavaḥ। ciccheda taṃ caiva punaḥ śaravarṣairavākirat ॥7-17-19॥
[हस्तावापम् (hastāvāpam) - the bow in hand; सुबाहोः (subāhoḥ) - of Subāhu; तु (tu) - but; भल्लेन (bhallena) - with an arrow; युधि (yudhi) - in battle; पाण्डवः (pāṇḍavaḥ) - the Pāṇḍava; चिच्छेद (ciccheda) - cut off; तम् (tam) - him; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; शरवर्षैः (śaravarṣaiḥ) - with showers of arrows; अवाकिरत् (avākirat) - covered;]
(The Pāṇḍava cut off the bow in the hand of Subāhu with an arrow in battle, and indeed covered him again with showers of arrows.)
In the battle, the Pāṇḍava cut off Subāhu's bow with an arrow and then showered him again with arrows.
ततः सुशर्मा दशभिः सुरथश्च किरीटिनम्। सुधर्मा सुधनुश्चैव सुबाहुश्च समर्पयन् ॥७-१७-२०॥
tataḥ suśarmā daśabhiḥ surathaśca kirīṭinam। sudharmā sudhanuścaiva subāhuśca samarpayan ॥7-17-20॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; सुशर्मा (suśarmā) - Suśarmā; दशभिः (daśabhiḥ) - with ten; सुरथः (surathaḥ) - Suratha; च (ca) - and; किरीटिनम् (kirīṭinam) - the crowned one; सुधर्मा (sudharmā) - Sudharmā; सुधनुः (sudhanuḥ) - Sudhanu; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; सुबाहुः (subāhuḥ) - Subāhu; च (ca) - and; समर्पयन् (samarpayan) - offered;]
(Then Suśarmā, along with ten others, Suratha, and the crowned one, Sudharmā, Sudhanu, and indeed Subāhu, offered.)
Then Suśarmā, accompanied by ten others including Suratha and the crowned one, along with Sudharmā, Sudhanu, and Subāhu, made an offering.
तांस्तु सर्वान्पृथग्बाणैर्वानरप्रवरध्वजः। प्रत्यविध्यद्ध्वजांश्चैषां भल्लैश्चिच्छेद काञ्चनान् ॥७-१७-२१॥
tāṃstu sarvānpṛthagbāṇairvānarapravaradhvajaḥ। pratyavidhyaddhvajāṃścaiṣāṃ bhallaściccheda kāñcanān ॥7-17-21॥
[तांस् (tāṃs) - them; तु (tu) - but; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; पृथक् (pṛthak) - separately; बाणैः (bāṇaiḥ) - with arrows; वानरप्रवरध्वजः (vānarapravaradhvajaḥ) - the foremost among the monkeys, Dhvaja; प्रत्यविध्यत् (pratyavidhyat) - pierced; ध्वजान् (dhvajān) - the flags; च (ca) - and; एषाम् (eṣām) - of them; भल्लैः (bhallaiḥ) - with arrows; चिच्छेद (ciccheda) - cut; काञ्चनान् (kāñcanān) - golden;]
(But Dhvaja, the foremost among the monkeys, pierced all of them separately with arrows and cut their golden flags with arrows.)
Dhvaja, the leader of the monkeys, skillfully shot arrows at each of them, severing their golden flags.
सुधन्वनो धनुश्छित्त्वा हयान्वै न्यवधीच्छरैः। अथास्य सशिरस्त्राणं शिरः कायादपाहरत् ॥७-१७-२२॥

(Having sworn terrible oaths in the presence of all the army, having gone to Duryodhana's army, what indeed will you say, chiefs?)

नावहास्याः कथं लोके कर्मणानेन संयुगे। भवेम सहिताः सर्वे निवर्तध्वं यथाबलम् ॥७-१७-२९॥
nāvahāsyāḥ kathaṃ loke karmaṇānena saṃyuge। bhavema sahitāḥ sarve nivartadhvaṃ yathābalam ॥7-17-29॥
[न (na) - not; अवहास्याः (avahāsyāḥ) - to be ridiculed; कथं (kathaṃ) - how; लोके (loke) - in the world; कर्मणा (karmaṇā) - by action; अनेन (anena) - by this; संयुगे (saṃyuge) - in battle; भवेम (bhavema) - we may become; सहिताः (sahitāḥ) - together; सर्वे (sarve) - all; निवर्तध्वं (nivartadhvaṃ) - return; यथा (yathā) - as; बलम् (balam) - strength;]
(Not to be ridiculed, how in the world by this action in battle we may become together all return as strength.)
"How can we, by this action in battle, become united and return with all our strength, without being ridiculed in the world?"
एवमुक्तास्तु ते राजन्नुदक्रोशन्मुहुर्मुहुः। शङ्खांश्च दध्मिरे वीरा हर्षयन्तः परस्परम् ॥७-१७-३०॥
evamuktāstu te rājannudakrośanmuhurmuhuḥ। śaṅkhāṃśca dadhmire vīrā harṣayantaḥ parasparam ॥7-17-30॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्ताः (uktāḥ) - spoken; तु (tu) - but; ते (te) - they; राजन् (rājan) - O king; उदक्रोशन् (udakrośan) - cried out; मुहुः (muhuḥ) - again; मुहुः (muhuḥ) - again; शङ्खान् (śaṅkhān) - conches; च (ca) - and; दध्मिरे (dadhmire) - blew; वीराः (vīrāḥ) - heroes; हर्षयन्तः (harṣayantaḥ) - rejoicing; परस्परम् (parasparam) - each other;]
(Thus spoken, they, O king, cried out again and again. The heroes blew their conches, rejoicing with each other.)
