Pancharatra and Core: Midday retreat of the Kaurava army after Shalya is slain by Yudhishthira. Duryodhana blocks his army from the back in an attempt to rally them. Bhima slaughters twenty-one thousand infantrymen who come after him. Duryodhana once again makes his last-ditch attempt to rally his army.

मद्रराजे महाराज वित्रस्ताः शरविक्षताः। अनाथा नाथमिच्छन्तो मृगाः सिंहार्दिता इव ॥९-१८-३॥

(The sound of arrows and also the lion's roar were abundant. The conch sound of heroes was terrible.)
The battlefield was filled with the sounds of arrows, the mighty roar of lions, and the dreadful blare of conches blown by the heroes.
दृष्ट्वा तु कौरवं सैन्यं भयत्रस्तं प्रविद्रुतम्। अन्योन्यं समभाषन्त पाञ्चालाः पाण्डवैः सह ॥९-१८-१३॥

(Having seen the Kaurava army fear-stricken and fleeing, the Panchalas spoke to each other together with the Pandavas.)
Upon witnessing the Kaurava army in fear and retreating, the Panchalas conversed among themselves along with the Pandavas.

Today, King Yudhishthira, known as Satyadhriti and the conqueror of enemies, stands victorious. Meanwhile, Duryodhana finds himself deprived of his kingly glory by the radiant splendor.
अद्य श्रुत्वा हतं पुत्रं धृतराष्ट्रो जनेश्वरः। निःसञ्ज्ञः पतितो भूमौ किल्बिषं प्रतिपद्यताम् ॥९-१८-१५॥

(Today, having heard that his son was killed, Dhritarashtra, the lord of people, fell unconscious on the ground, to be attained by sin.)

अद्यप्रभृति पार्थांश्च प्रेष्यभूत उपाचरन्। विजानातु नृपो दुःखं यत्प्राप्तं पाण्डुनन्दनैः ॥९-१८-१७॥
adyaprabhr̥ti pārthāṁśca preṣyabhūta upācaran। vijānātu nṛpo duḥkhaṁ yatprāptaṁ pāṇḍunandanaiḥ ॥9-18-17॥
[अद्यप्रभृति (adyaprabhr̥ti) - from today onwards; पार्थान् (pārthān) - sons of Pritha; च (ca) - and; प्रेष्यभूत (preṣyabhūta) - as servants; उपाचरन् (upācaran) - treat; विजानातु (vijānātu) - let know; नृपः (nṛpaḥ) - the king; दुःखम् (duḥkham) - suffering; यत् (yat) - which; प्राप्तम् (prāptam) - obtained; पाण्डुनन्दनैः (pāṇḍunandanaiḥ) - by the sons of Pandu;]
(From today onwards, treat the sons of Pritha as servants. Let the king know the suffering which has been obtained by the sons of Pandu.)

[अद्य (adya) - today; कृष्णस्य (kṛṣṇasya) - of Krishna; माहात्म्यम् (māhātmyam) - greatness; जानातु (jānātu) - may know; सः (saḥ) - he; महीपतिः (mahīpatiḥ) - the king; अद्य (adya) - today; अर्जुन (arjuna) - Arjuna; धनुः (dhanuḥ) - bow; घोषम् (ghoṣam) - sound; घोरम् (ghoram) - terrible; जानातु (jānātu) - may know; संयुगे (saṃyuge) - in battle;]
(Today, may the king know the greatness of Krishna. Today, may he know the terrible sound of Arjuna's bow in battle.)
Today, the king should recognize Krishna's greatness. He should also be aware of the fearsome sound of Arjuna's bow in the battle.
अस्त्राणां च बलं सर्वं बाह्वोश्च बलमाहवे। अद्य ज्ञास्यति भीमस्य बलं घोरं महात्मनः ॥९-१८-१९॥
astrāṇāṃ ca balaṃ sarvaṃ bāhvośca balamāhave। adya jñāsyati bhīmasya balaṃ ghoraṃ mahātmanaḥ ॥9-18-19॥
[अस्त्राणाम् (astrāṇām) - of weapons; च (ca) - and; बलम् (balam) - strength; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; बाह्वोः (bāhvoḥ) - of arms; च (ca) - and; बलम् (balam) - strength; आहवे (āhave) - in battle; अद्य (adya) - today; ज्ञास्यति (jñāsyati) - will know; भीमस्य (bhīmasya) - of Bhima; बलम् (balam) - strength; घोरम् (ghoram) - terrible; महात्मनः (mahātmanaḥ) - of the great soul;]
(The strength of all weapons and the strength of arms in battle; today will know Bhima's terrible strength of the great soul.)
Today, the formidable strength of Bhima, the great soul, will be realized in the battle, encompassing the might of all weapons and arms.
हते दुर्योधने युद्धे शक्रेणेवासुरे मये। यत्कृतं भीमसेनेन दुःशासनवधे तदा ॥ नान्यः कर्तास्ति लोके तदृते भीमं महाबलम् ॥९-१८-२०॥
hate duryodhane yuddhe śakreṇevasure maye। yatkṛtaṃ bhīmasenena duḥśāsanavadhe tadā ॥ nānyaḥ kartāsti loke tadṛte bhīmaṃ mahābalam ॥9-18-20॥
