tasminneva tu dharmātmā vasati sma tapodhanaḥ। gārhasthyaṃ dharmamāsthāya asito devalaḥ purā ॥9-49-1॥

In that very place, the righteous ascetic Asita Devala once lived, having embraced the duties of a householder.
धर्मनित्यः शुचिर्दान्तो न्यस्तदण्डो महातपाः। कर्मणा मनसा वाचा समः सर्वेषु जन्तुषु ॥९-४९-२॥
dharmanityaḥ śucirdānto nyastadaṇḍo mahātapāḥ। karmaṇā manasā vācā samaḥ sarveṣu jantuṣu ॥9-49-2॥

He is always righteous, pure, and self-controlled, having renounced punishment and being greatly austere. He is equal towards all beings through his actions, mind, and speech.
अक्रोधनो महाराज तुल्यनिन्दाप्रियाप्रियः। काञ्चने लोष्टके चैव समदर्शी महातपाः ॥९-४९-३॥
akrodhano mahārāja tulyanindāpriyāpriyaḥ। kāñcane loṣṭake caiva samadarśī mahātapāḥ ॥9-49-3॥
[अक्रोधनः (akrodhanaḥ) - without anger; महाराजः (mahārājaḥ) - great king; तुल्य (tulya) - equal; निन्दा (nindā) - blame; प्रिय (priya) - dear; अप्रियः (apriyaḥ) - not dear; काञ्चने (kāñcane) - in gold; लोष्टके (loṣṭake) - in a clod of earth; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; समदर्शी (samadarśī) - seeing equally; महातपाः (mahātapāḥ) - greatly austere;]
(Without anger, the great king is equal in blame and praise, and indeed sees equally in gold and a clod of earth, greatly austere.)
The great king, free from anger, treats blame and praise alike, and views gold and a clod of earth with equal regard, being greatly austere.
देवताः पूजयन्नित्यमतिथींश्च द्विजैः सह। ब्रह्मचर्यरतो नित्यं सदा धर्मपरायणः ॥९-४९-४॥
devatāḥ pūjayannityamatithīṃśca dvijaiḥ saha। brahmacaryarato nityaṃ sadā dharmaparāyaṇaḥ ॥9-49-4॥

ततोऽभ्येत्य महाराज योगमास्थाय भिक्षुकः। जैगीषव्यो मुनिर्धीमांस्तस्मिंस्तीर्थे समाहितः ॥९-४९-५॥
tato'bhyetya mahārāja yogamāsthāya bhikṣukaḥ। jaigīṣavyo munirdhīmāṁstasmiṁstīrthe samāhitaḥ ॥9-49-5॥

देवलस्याश्रमे राजन्न्यवसत्स महाद्युतिः। योगनित्यो महाराज सिद्धिं प्राप्तो महातपाः ॥९-४९-६॥
devalasyāśrame rājannyavatas sa mahādyutiḥ। yoganityo mahārāja siddhiṃ prāpto mahātapāḥ ॥9-49-6॥

(In the hermitage of Devala, O king, he, the greatly radiant one, dwelt. Always engaged in yoga, O great king, he attained perfection, the great ascetic.)
In the hermitage of Devala, O king, the greatly radiant one resided. Always devoted to yoga, O great king, he achieved perfection as a great ascetic.
तं तत्र वसमानं तु जैगीषव्यं महामुनिम्। देवलो दर्शयन्नेव नैवायुञ्जत धर्मतः ॥९-४९-७॥
taṃ tatra vasamānaṃ tu jaigīṣavyaṃ mahāmunim। devalo darśayanneva naivāyuñjata dharmataḥ ॥9-49-7॥

(Him dwelling there, but Jaigishavya, the great sage, Devala indeed showing, did not engage righteously.)

एवं तयोर्महाराज दीर्घकालो व्यतिक्रमत्। जैगीषव्यं मुनिं चैव न ददर्शाथ देवलः ॥९-४९-८॥
evaṃ tayormahārāja dīrghakālo vyatikramat। jaigīṣavyaṃ muniṃ caiva na dadarśātha devalaḥ ॥9-49-8॥

(Thus, O great king, a long time passed. Then Devala did not see the sage Jaigīṣavya.)
In this way, a long period elapsed, O great king. During this time, Devala did not encounter the sage Jaigīṣavya.
आहारकाले मतिमान्परिव्राड्जनमेजय। उपातिष्ठत धर्मज्ञो भैक्षकाले स देवलम् ॥९-४९-९॥
āhārakāle matimānparivrāḍjanamejaya। upātiṣṭhata dharmajño bhaikṣakāle sa devalam ॥9-49-9॥
[आहारकाले (āhārakāle) - at the time of eating; मतिमान् (matimān) - wise; परिव्राट् (parivrāṭ) - ascetic; जनमेजय (janamejaya) - Janamejaya; उपातिष्ठत (upātiṣṭhata) - attended; धर्मज्ञः (dharmajñaḥ) - knower of dharma; भैक्षकाले (bhaikṣakāle) - at the time of alms; सः (saḥ) - he; देवलम् (devalam) - Devala;]
(At the time of eating, the wise ascetic Janamejaya attended Devala, the knower of dharma, at the time of alms.)
At mealtime, the wise ascetic Janamejaya attended Devala, who was knowledgeable in dharma, during the time of receiving alms.
स दृष्ट्वा भिक्षुरूपेण प्राप्तं तत्र महामुनिम्। गौरवं परमं चक्रे प्रीतिं च विपुलां तथा ॥९-४९-१०॥
sa dṛṣṭvā bhikṣurūpeṇa prāptaṃ tatra mahāmunim। gauravaṃ paramaṃ cakre prītiṃ ca vipulāṃ tathā ॥9-49-10॥
[स (sa) - he; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; भिक्षुरूपेण (bhikṣurūpeṇa) - in the form of a mendicant; प्राप्तं (prāptam) - arrived; तत्र (tatra) - there; महामुनिम् (mahāmunim) - the great sage; गौरवं (gauravam) - respect; परमं (paramam) - supreme; चक्रे (cakre) - made; प्रीतिं (prītim) - affection; च (ca) - and; विपुलां (vipulām) - abundant; तथा (tathā) - thus;]
(He, having seen the great sage who had arrived there in the form of a mendicant, made supreme respect and abundant affection thus.)
Upon seeing the great sage who had come there disguised as a mendicant, he showed utmost respect and deep affection.
देवलस्तु यथाशक्ति पूजयामास भारत। ऋषिदृष्टेन विधिना समा बह्व्यः समाहितः ॥९-४९-११॥
devalastu yathāśakti pūjayāmāsa bhārata। ṛṣidṛṣṭena vidhinā samā bahvyaḥ samāhitaḥ ॥9-49-11॥
[देवलः (devalaḥ) - Devala; तु (tu) - but; यथा (yathā) - according to; शक्ति (śakti) - ability; पूजयामास (pūjayāmāsa) - worshipped; भारत (bhārata) - O Bharata; ऋषि (ṛṣi) - sage; दृष्टेन (dṛṣṭena) - seen; विधिना (vidhinā) - by the method; समा (samā) - years; बह्व्यः (bahvyaḥ) - many; समाहितः (samāhitaḥ) - concentrated;]
(Devala, but according to ability, worshipped, O Bharata, by the method seen by the sage, for many years, concentrated.)
Devala, however, worshipped with full devotion according to his ability, O Bharata, following the method prescribed by the sage, and remained focused for many years.
कदाचित्तस्य नृपते देवलस्य महात्मनः। चिन्ता सुमहती जाता मुनिं दृष्ट्वा महाद्युतिम् ॥९-४९-१२॥
kadācittasya nṛpate devalasya mahātmanaḥ। cintā sumahatī jātā muniṃ dṛṣṭvā mahādyutim ॥9-49-12॥
[कदाचित् (kadācit) - once; तस्य (tasya) - his; नृपते (nṛpate) - of the king; देवलस्य (devalasya) - of Devala; महात्मनः (mahātmanaḥ) - great soul; चिन्ता (cintā) - worry; सुमहती (sumahatī) - very great; जाता (jātā) - arose; मुनिम् (munim) - sage; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - seeing; महाद्युतिम् (mahādyutim) - greatly effulgent;]
(Once, a very great worry arose in the mind of King Devala, the great soul, upon seeing the greatly effulgent sage.)
Once upon a time, King Devala, a great soul, was deeply worried when he saw the greatly effulgent sage.
समास्तु समतिक्रान्ता बह्व्यः पूजयतो मम। न चायमलसो भिक्षुरभ्यभाषत किञ्चन ॥९-४९-१३॥
samāstu samatikrāntā bahvyaḥ pūjayato mama। na cāyamalaso bhikṣurabhyabhāṣata kiñcana ॥9-49-13॥
[समाः (samāḥ) - years; तु (tu) - but; समतिक्रान्ताः (samatikrāntāḥ) - have passed; बह्व्यः (bahvyaḥ) - many; पूजयतः (pūjayataḥ) - worshipping; मम (mama) - my; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; अयम् (ayam) - this; अलसः (alasaḥ) - lazy; भिक्षुः (bhikṣuḥ) - monk; अभ्यभाषत (abhyabhāṣata) - spoke; किञ्चन (kiñcana) - anything;]
(Years have passed, many worshipping my (deity). But this lazy monk did not speak anything.)
Many years have passed while I have been worshipping, yet this lazy monk has not spoken anything.
एवं विगणयन्नेव स जगाम महोदधिम्। अन्तरिक्षचरः श्रीमान्कलशं गृह्य देवलः ॥९-४९-१४॥
evaṃ vigaṇayanneva sa jagāma mahodadhim। antarikṣacaraḥ śrīmān kalaśaṃ gṛhya devalaḥ ॥9-49-14॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; विगणयन् (vigaṇayan) - considering; एव (eva) - indeed; सः (saḥ) - he; जगाम (jagāma) - went; महोदधिम् (mahodadhim) - to the great ocean; अन्तरिक्षचरः (antarikṣacaraḥ) - sky-walker; श्रीमान् (śrīmān) - the illustrious; कलशम् (kalaśam) - pot; गृह्य (gṛhya) - holding; देवलः (devalaḥ) - Devala;]
(Thus considering, he indeed went to the great ocean. The illustrious sky-walker Devala, holding the pot.)
Thus contemplating, he proceeded to the vast ocean. The illustrious Devala, who traverses the skies, carried the pot.
गच्छन्नेव स धर्मात्मा समुद्रं सरितां पतिम्। जैगीषव्यं ततोऽपश्यद्गतं प्रागेव भारत ॥९-४९-१५॥
gacchanneva sa dharmātmā samudraṃ saritāṃ patim। jaigīṣavyaṃ tato'paśyadgataṃ prāgeva bhārata ॥9-49-15॥
[गच्छन् (gacchan) - going; एव (eva) - indeed; सः (saḥ) - he; धर्मात्मा (dharmātmā) - righteous soul; समुद्रम् (samudram) - ocean; सरिताम् (saritām) - of rivers; पतिम् (patim) - lord; जैगीषव्यम् (jaigīṣavyam) - Jaigīṣavya; ततः (tataḥ) - then; अपश्यत् (apaśyat) - saw; गतम् (gatam) - gone; प्राक् (prāk) - before; एव (eva) - indeed; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata;]
(Going indeed, the righteous soul saw the ocean, the lord of rivers. Then he saw Jaigīṣavya, who had gone before, O Bhārata.)
As he was going, the righteous soul reached the ocean, the lord of rivers, and then saw Jaigīṣavya who had already arrived, O Bhārata.
ततः सविस्मयश्चिन्तां जगामाथासितः प्रभुः। कथं भिक्षुरयं प्राप्तः समुद्रे स्नात एव च ॥९-४९-१६॥
tataḥ savismayaścintāṁ jagāmāthāsitaḥ prabhuḥ। kathaṁ bhikṣurayaṁ prāptaḥ samudre snāta eva ca ॥9-49-16॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; सविस्मयः (savismayaḥ) - with wonder; चिन्तां (cintāṁ) - thought; जगाम (jagāma) - went; अथ (atha) - then; असितः (asitaḥ) - dark; प्रभुः (prabhuḥ) - lord; कथं (kathaṁ) - how; भिक्षुः (bhikṣuḥ) - mendicant; अयम् (ayam) - this; प्राप्तः (prāptaḥ) - arrived; समुद्रे (samudre) - in the ocean; स्नातः (snātaḥ) - bathed; एव (eva) - indeed; च (ca) - and;]
(Then, with wonder, the dark lord went into thought. How did this mendicant arrive, indeed bathed in the ocean?)
Then, the dark lord, filled with wonder, pondered how this mendicant had arrived, having bathed in the ocean.
इत्येवं चिन्तयामास महर्षिरसितस्तदा। स्नात्वा समुद्रे विधिवच्छुचिर्जप्यं जजाप ह ॥९-४९-१७॥
ityevaṃ cintayāmāsa maharṣirasitastadā। snātvā samudre vidhivacchucirjapyaṃ jajāpa ha ॥9-49-17॥
[इति (iti) - thus; एवम् (evam) - in this way; चिन्तयामास (cintayāmāsa) - thought; महर्षिः (maharṣiḥ) - great sage; असितः (asitaḥ) - Asita; तदा (tadā) - then; स्नात्वा (snātvā) - having bathed; समुद्रे (samudre) - in the ocean; विधिवत् (vidhivat) - according to the rules; शुचिः (śuciḥ) - pure; जप्यम् (japyam) - prayer; जजाप (jajāpa) - chanted; ह (ha) - indeed;]
(Thus, the great sage Asita thought in this way. Having bathed in the ocean according to the rules, he, being pure, chanted the prayer.)
In this manner, the great sage Asita contemplated. After performing a ritual bath in the ocean, he, purified and following the prescribed rules, recited his prayers.
कृतजप्याह्निकः श्रीमानाश्रमं च जगाम ह। कलशं जलपूर्णं वै गृहीत्वा जनमेजय ॥९-४९-१८॥
kṛtajapyāhnikaḥ śrīmān āśramaṃ ca jagāma ha। kalaśaṃ jalapūrṇaṃ vai gṛhītvā janamejaya ॥9-49-18॥
[कृत (kṛta) - having performed; जप्य (japya) - recitation; आह्निकः (āhnikaḥ) - daily rites; श्रीमान् (śrīmān) - the illustrious one; आश्रमं (āśramaṃ) - hermitage; च (ca) - and; जगाम (jagāma) - went; ह (ha) - indeed; कलशं (kalaśaṃ) - pot; जलपूर्णं (jalapūrṇaṃ) - full of water; वै (vai) - indeed; गृहीत्वा (gṛhītvā) - having taken; जनमेजय (janamejaya) - Janamejaya;]
(Having performed the recitation and daily rites, the illustrious one indeed went to the hermitage. Taking a pot full of water, indeed Janamejaya.)
After completing his daily rituals and prayers, the illustrious Janamejaya went to the hermitage, carrying a pot filled with water.
ततः स प्रविशन्नेव स्वमाश्रमपदं मुनिः। आसीनमाश्रमे तत्र जैगीषव्यमपश्यत ॥९-४९-१९॥
tataḥ sa praviśanneva svamāśramapadaṃ muniḥ। āsīnamāśrame tatra jaigīṣavyamapaśyata ॥9-49-19॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; सः (saḥ) - he; प्रविशन् (praviśan) - entering; एव (eva) - just; स्वम् (svam) - his own; आश्रमपदं (āśramapadaṃ) - hermitage; मुनिः (muniḥ) - sage; आसीनम् (āsīnam) - seated; आश्रमे (āśrame) - in the hermitage; तत्र (tatra) - there; जैगीषव्यम् (jaigīṣavyam) - Jaigishavya; अपश्यत (apaśyat) - saw;]
(Then, as he was entering his own hermitage, the sage saw Jaigishavya seated there in the hermitage.)
Then, as the sage entered his own hermitage, he saw Jaigishavya seated there.
न व्याहरति चैवैनं जैगीषव्यः कथञ्चन। काष्ठभूतोऽऽश्रमपदे वसति स्म महातपाः ॥९-४९-२०॥
na vyāharati caivainaṃ jaigīṣavyaḥ kathaṃcana। kāṣṭhabhūto''śramapade vasati sma mahātapāḥ ॥9-49-20॥
[न (na) - not; व्याहरति (vyāharati) - speaks; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; एनम् (enam) - him; जैगीषव्यः (jaigīṣavyaḥ) - Jaigīṣavya; कथञ्चन (kathaṃcana) - in any way; काष्ठभूतः (kāṣṭhabhūtaḥ) - like a piece of wood; आश्रमपदे (āśramapade) - in the hermitage; वसति (vasati) - dwells; स्म (sma) - indeed; महातपाः (mahātapāḥ) - great ascetic;]
(Jaigīṣavya indeed does not speak to him in any way. Like a piece of wood, the great ascetic dwells in the hermitage.)
Jaigīṣavya, the great ascetic, remained silent and unmoving like a piece of wood in the hermitage, not speaking to anyone.
तं दृष्ट्वा चाप्लुतं तोये सागरे सागरोपमम्। प्रविष्टमाश्रमं चापि पूर्वमेव ददर्श सः ॥९-४९-२१॥
taṁ dṛṣṭvā cāplutaṁ toye sāgare sāgaropamam। praviṣṭamāśramaṁ cāpi pūrvameva dadarśa saḥ ॥9-49-21॥
[तं (taṁ) - him; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; च (ca) - and; आप्लुतं (āplutaṁ) - immersed; तोये (toye) - in water; सागरे (sāgare) - in the ocean; सागरोपमम् (sāgaropamam) - like the ocean; प्रविष्टम् (praviṣṭam) - entered; आश्रमं (āśramaṁ) - hermitage; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; पूर्वम् (pūrvam) - before; एव (eva) - indeed; ददर्श (dadarśa) - saw; सः (saḥ) - he;]
(Having seen him immersed in water, in the ocean, like the ocean, he also saw the hermitage entered before indeed.)
He saw him immersed in the ocean, resembling the ocean itself, and also noticed the hermitage that had been entered earlier.
असितो देवलो राजंश्चिन्तयामास बुद्धिमान्। दृष्टः प्रभावं तपसो जैगीषव्यस्य योगजम् ॥९-४९-२२॥
asito devalo rājaṃścintayāmāsa buddhimān। dṛṣṭaḥ prabhāvaṃ tapaso jaigīṣavyasya yogajam ॥9-49-22॥
[असितः (asitaḥ) - Asita; देवलः (devalaḥ) - Devala; राजन् (rājan) - O King; चिन्तयामास (cintayāmāsa) - thought; बुद्धिमान् (buddhimān) - wise; दृष्टः (dṛṣṭaḥ) - seen; प्रभावम् (prabhāvam) - power; तपसः (tapasaḥ) - of penance; जैगीषव्यस्य (jaigīṣavyasya) - of Jaigīṣavya; योगजम् (yogajam) - born of yoga;]
(Asita and Devala, O King, the wise thought. The power born of yoga of Jaigīṣavya's penance was seen.)
Asita and Devala, O King, contemplated wisely. They observed the power that was born from the yoga of Jaigīṣavya's penance.
चिन्तयामास राजेन्द्र तदा स मुनिसत्तमः। मया दृष्टः समुद्रे च आश्रमे च कथं त्वयम् ॥९-४९-२३॥

ततः सिद्धास्त ऊचुर्हि देवलं पुनरेव ह। न देवल गतिस्तत्र तव गन्तुं तपोधन ॥ ब्रह्मणः सदनं विप्र जैगीषव्यो यदाप्तवान् ॥९-४९-४८॥

(Then the perfected beings said to Devala, "Indeed, there is no way for you to go there, O sage. The abode of Brahma, O wise one, is what Jaigīṣavya attained.")

(Having heard their speech, Devala, of the accomplished ones, again descended all those worlds in sequence.)
Upon hearing their words, Devala, the sage, once again descended through all those worlds in order.
स्वमाश्रमपदं पुण्यमाजगाम पतङ्गवत्। प्रविशन्नेव चापश्यज्जैगीषव्यं स देवलः ॥९-४९-५०॥
svamāśramapadaṃ puṇyamājagāma pataṅgavat। praviśanneva cāpaśyajjaigīṣavyaṃ sa devalaḥ ॥9-49-50॥

(He arrived at his sacred hermitage like a bird. Just as he was entering, he saw Jaigīṣavya, the sage Devala.)

(Then Devala, humble, said to the great soul Jaigishavya, approaching the great sage, "O king, I wish to establish the liberation dharma, O Lord.")
Then Devala, with humility, addressed the great soul Jaigishavya, as he approached the great sage, saying, "O king, I wish to understand and establish the principles of liberation, O revered one."
तस्य तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा उपदेशं चकार सः। विधिं च योगस्य परं कार्याकार्यं च शास्त्रतः ॥९-४९-५३॥
tasya tadvacanaṁ śrutvā upadeśaṁ cakāra saḥ। vidhiṁ ca yogasya paraṁ kāryākāryaṁ ca śāstrataḥ ॥9-49-53॥

संन्यासकृतबुद्धिं तं ततो दृष्ट्वा महातपाः। सर्वाश्चास्य क्रियाश्चक्रे विधिदृष्टेन कर्मणा ॥९-४९-५४॥
saṃnyāsakṛtabuddhiṃ taṃ tato dṛṣṭvā mahātapāḥ। sarvāścāsya kriyāścakre vidhidṛṣṭena karmaṇā ॥9-49-54॥

(Having seen him with intellect made by renunciation, the great ascetics then performed all his actions according to the rule by action.)
The great ascetics, observing him whose intellect was shaped by renunciation, performed all his duties according to the prescribed rules.
संन्यासकृतबुद्धिं तं भूतानि पितृभिः सह। ततो दृष्ट्वा प्ररुरुदुः कोऽस्मान्संविभजिष्यति ॥९-४९-५५॥
saṃnyāsakṛtabuddhiṃ taṃ bhūtāni pitṛbhiḥ saha। tato dṛṣṭvā praruruduḥ ko'smānsaṃvibhajiṣyati ॥9-49-55॥
[संन्यास (saṃnyāsa) - renunciation; कृत (kṛta) - made; बुद्धिं (buddhiṃ) - intellect; तं (taṃ) - him; भूतानि (bhūtāni) - beings; पितृभिः (pitṛbhiḥ) - with ancestors; सह (saha) - together; ततः (tataḥ) - then; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; प्ररुरुदुः (praruruduḥ) - cried; कः (kaḥ) - who; अस्मान् (asmān) - us; संविभजिष्यति (saṃvibhajiṣyati) - will distribute;]
(Having made his intellect renounced, the beings cried together with the ancestors, "Who will distribute to us?")

देवलस्तु वचः श्रुत्वा भूतानां करुणं तथा। दिशो दश व्याहरतां मोक्षं त्यक्तुं मनो दधे ॥९-४९-५६॥
devalastu vacaḥ śrutvā bhūtānāṃ karuṇaṃ tathā। diśo daśa vyāharatāṃ mokṣaṃ tyaktuṃ mano dadhe ॥9-49-56॥

(Then, O Bhārata, fruits and roots, pure, and flowers and herbs indeed grow in thousands.)

(Again, Devala, the mean and evil-minded, will certainly cut us. Having given fearlessness to all beings, he does not understand.)

tato bhūyo vyagaṇayatsvabuddhyā munisattamaḥ। mokṣe gārhasthyadharme vā kiṃ nu śreyaskaraṃ bhavet ॥9-49-59॥

(Then again, the best of sages considered with his own intellect: what indeed would be beneficial in liberation or in household duties?)
Then, the best of sages pondered deeply with his own intellect, questioning what would truly be beneficial: the path of liberation or the duties of a householder.
इति निश्चित्य मनसा देवलो राजसत्तम। त्यक्त्वा गार्हस्थ्यधर्मं स मोक्षधर्ममरोचयत् ॥९-४९-६०॥
iti niścitya manasā devalo rājasattama। tyaktvā gārhasthyadharmaṃ sa mokṣadharmamarocayat ॥9-49-60॥

एवमादीनि सञ्चिन्त्य देवलो निश्चयात्ततः। प्राप्तवान्परमां सिद्धिं परं योगं च भारत ॥९-४९-६१॥

tato devāḥ samāgamya bṛhaspatipurogamāḥ। jaigīṣavyaṃ tapaścāsya praśaṃsanti tapasvinaḥ ॥9-49-62॥

तमेवंवादिनं धीरं प्रत्यूचुस्ते दिवौकसः। मैवमित्येव शंसन्तो जैगीषव्यं महामुनिम् ॥९-४९-६४॥
tamevaṃvādinaṃ dhīraṃ pratyūcuste divaukasaḥ। maivamityeva śaṃsanto jaigīṣavyaṃ mahāmunim ॥9-49-64॥
