Pancharatra and Core: Krishna asks Arjuna to release the counterweapon to protect Bhima. Seeing the destructive power of both the weapons, sages and Narada are concerned.

By a mere gesture, Krishna, the descendant of the Dasharha, understood Arjuna's intention and, perceiving the intention of Drona's son, the mighty-armed Arjuna spoke to him.
अर्जुनार्जुन यद्दिव्यमस्त्रं ते हृदि वर्तते। द्रोणोपदिष्टं तस्यायं कालः सम्प्रति पाण्डव ॥१०-१४-२॥

(O Arjuna, O Arjuna, the divine weapon which resides in your heart, taught by Droṇa, of that this is the time now, O son of Pāṇḍu.)

भ्रातॄणामात्मनश्चैव परित्राणाय भारत। विसृजैतत्त्वमप्याजावस्त्रमस्त्रनिवारणम् ॥१०-१४-३॥
bhrātṝṇām ātmanaś caiva paritrāṇāya bhārata। visṛja etat tvam api ājāvastram astra-nivāraṇam ॥10-14-3॥

केशवेनैवमुक्तस्तु पाण्डवः परवीरहा। अवातरद्रथात्तूर्णं प्रगृह्य सशरं धनुः ॥१०-१४-४॥

(But the son of Pāṇḍu, destroyer of enemy heroes, thus addressed by Keśava, quickly descended from the chariot, having taken up the bow with arrows.)

पूर्वमाचार्यपुत्राय ततोऽनन्तरमात्मने। भ्रातृभ्यश्चैव सर्वेभ्यः स्वस्तीत्युक्त्वा परन्तपः ॥१०-१४-५॥

The scorcher of foes first offered well-wishes to the teacher's son, then to himself, to his brothers, and to all, saying 'well-being' to each.
देवताभ्यो नमस्कृत्य गुरुभ्यश्चैव सर्वशः। उत्ससर्ज शिवं ध्यायन्नस्त्रमस्त्रेण शाम्यताम् ॥१०-१४-६॥

(Then that weapon, suddenly discharged by the wielder of the Gandiva bow, blazed forth with great flames, resembling the fire at the end of an age.)
Then, the weapon suddenly released by Arjuna, the wielder of the Gandiva bow, blazed with immense flames, like the fire that appears at the end of the world.
तथैव द्रोणपुत्रस्य तदस्त्रं तिग्मतेजसः। प्रजज्वाल महाज्वालं तेजोमण्डलसंवृतम् ॥१०-१४-८॥
tathaiva droṇaputrasya tadastraṃ tigmatejasaḥ। prajajvāla mahājvālaṃ tejomaṇḍalasaṃvṛtam ॥10-14-8॥

(In the same way, that weapon of the son of Droṇa, of sharp brilliance, blazed forth with great flames, enveloped in a sphere of radiance.)

निर्घाता बहवश्चासन्पेतुरुल्काः सहस्रशः। महद्भयं च भूतानां सर्वेषां समजायत ॥१०-१४-९॥
nirghātā bahavaś cāsan petur ulkāḥ sahasraśaḥ। mahad bhayaṃ ca bhūtānāṃ sarveṣāṃ samajāyata ॥10-14-9॥
[निर्घाता (nirghātā) - thunderbolts; बहवः (bahavaḥ) - many; च (ca) - and; आसन् (āsan) - were; पेतुः (petuḥ) - fell; उल्काः (ulkāḥ) - meteors; सहस्रशः (sahasraśaḥ) - by thousands; महत् (mahat) - great; भयम् (bhayam) - fear; च (ca) - and; भूतानाम् (bhūtānām) - of beings; सर्वेषाम् (sarveṣām) - of all; समजायत (samajāyata) - arose;]
(Thunderbolts were many and meteors fell by thousands; great fear also of all beings arose.)

सशब्दमभवद्व्योम ज्वालामालाकुलं भृशम्। चचाल च मही कृत्स्ना सपर्वतवनद्रुमा ॥१०-१४-१०॥
saśabdam abhavad vyoma jvālā-mālā-ākulaṃ bhṛśam। cacāla ca mahī kṛtsnā sa-parvata-vana-drumā ॥10-14-10॥
[सशब्दम् (saśabdam) - with sound; अभवत् (abhavat) - became; व्योम (vyoma) - the sky; ज्वालामाला (jvālā-mālā) - garland of flames; आकुलम् (ākulam) - filled; भृशम् (bhṛśam) - intensely; च (ca) - and; चचाल (cacāla) - trembled; मही (mahī) - the earth; कृत्स्ना (kṛtsnā) - entire; स (sa) - with; पर्वत (parvata) - mountains; वन (vana) - forests; द्रुमा (drumā) - trees;]
(The sky became filled with sound and garlands of flames intensely. And the entire earth, with mountains, forests, and trees, trembled.)
The sky resounded and was intensely filled with garlands of flames. The whole earth, along with its mountains, forests, and trees, trembled.
ते अस्त्रे तेजसा लोकांस्तापयन्ती व्यवस्थिते। महर्षी सहितौ तत्र दर्शयामासतुस्तदा ॥१०-१४-११॥
te astre tejasā lokāṃstāpayantī vyavasthite. maharṣī sahitau tatra darśayāmāsatustadā ॥10-14-11॥

(They, being situated in the missile, burning the worlds by brilliance, the great sages together there showed then.)
Then, the great sages, being together there, showed (them) burning the worlds with the brilliance of the missile.
नारदः स च धर्मात्मा भरतानां पितामहः। उभौ शमयितुं वीरौ भारद्वाजधनञ्जयौ ॥१०-१४-१२॥

(Those two sages, knowers of all dharmas, desirous of the welfare of all beings, of supreme brilliance, stood in the midst of the two blazing missiles.)

तदन्तरमनाधृष्यावुपगम्य यशस्विनौ। आस्तामृषिवरौ तत्र ज्वलिताविव पावकौ ॥१०-१४-१४॥

(Then, approaching the unassailable ones, the illustrious two great sages remained there, shining like fires.)

(By living beings invincible, approved by gods and demons, to subdue the power of weapons, for the desire of the welfare of the worlds.)
They were invincible to all living beings, respected by both gods and demons, and subdued the power of weapons for the welfare of the worlds.

नानाशस्त्रविदः पूर्वे येऽप्यतीता महारथाः। नैतदस्त्रं मनुष्येषु तैः प्रयुक्तं कथञ्चन ॥१०-१४-१६॥
nānāśastravidaḥ pūrve ye'pyatītā mahārathāḥ। naitad astraṃ manuṣyeṣu taiḥ prayuktaṃ kathaṃcana ॥10-14-16॥
[नाना-शस्त्र-विदः (nānā-śastra-vidaḥ) - knowers of various weapons; पूर्वे (pūrve) - former; ये (ye) - who; अपि (api) - also; अतीता (atītāḥ) - passed (away); महा-रथाः (mahā-rathāḥ) - great chariot-warriors; न (na) - not; एतत् (etat) - this; अस्त्रं (astraṃ) - weapon; मनुष्येषु (manuṣyeṣu) - among men; तैः (taiḥ) - by them; प्रयुक्तं (prayuktam) - employed; कथञ्चन (kathaṃcana) - ever;]
(The knowers of various weapons, the former great chariot-warriors who have also passed away, did not ever employ this weapon among men.)
Even the great chariot-warriors of the past, who were skilled in many weapons, never used this weapon among men.
