Bhīṣma said.
हन्त वक्ष्यामि ते पार्थ ध्यानयोगं चतुर्विधम्। यं ज्ञात्वा शाश्वतीं सिद्धिं गच्छन्ति परमर्षयः ॥१२-१८८-१॥
hanta vakṣyāmi te pārtha dhyānayogaṃ caturvidham। yaṃ jñātvā śāśvatīṃ siddhiṃ gacchanti paramarṣayaḥ ॥12-188-1॥
[हन्त (hanta) - indeed; वक्ष्यामि (vakṣyāmi) - I shall declare; ते (te) - to you; पार्थ (pārtha) - O son of Pṛthā; ध्यानयोगं (dhyānayogam) - the yoga of meditation; चतुर्विधम् (caturvidham) - of four kinds; यं (yaṃ) - which; ज्ञात्वा (jñātvā) - having known; शाश्वतीं (śāśvatīm) - eternal; सिद्धिं (siddhim) - perfection; गच्छन्ति (gacchanti) - attain; परमर्षयः (paramarṣayaḥ) - supreme sages;]
(Indeed, I shall declare to you, O Pārtha, the yoga of meditation of four kinds, which, having known, the supreme sages attain eternal perfection.)
O Pārtha, I will now explain to you the fourfold yoga of meditation, by knowing which the supreme sages attain eternal perfection.
यथा स्वनुष्ठितं ध्यानं तथा कुर्वन्ति योगिनः। महर्षयो ज्ञानतृप्ता निर्वाणगतमानसाः ॥१२-१८८-२॥
yathā svanuṣṭhitaṃ dhyānaṃ tathā kurvanti yoginaḥ। maharṣayo jñānatṛptā nirvāṇagatamānasāḥ ॥12-188-2॥
[यथा (yathā) - just as; स्वनुष्ठितं (svanuṣṭhitaṃ) - properly practiced; ध्यानं (dhyānam) - meditation; तथा (tathā) - so; कुर्वन्ति (kurvanti) - they do; योगिनः (yoginaḥ) - yogis; महर्षयः (maharṣayaḥ) - great sages; ज्ञानतृप्ता (jñānatṛptāḥ) - satisfied with knowledge; निर्वाणगतमानसाः (nirvāṇagatamānasāḥ) - whose minds have reached liberation;]
(Just as the meditation is properly practiced, so do the yogis act; the great sages, satisfied with knowledge, whose minds have reached liberation.)

नावर्तन्ते पुनः पार्थ मुक्ताः संसारदोषतः। जन्मदोषपरिक्षीणाः स्वभावे पर्यवस्थिताः ॥१२-१८८-३॥
nāvartante punaḥ pārtha muktāḥ saṃsāra-doṣataḥ। janma-doṣa-parikṣīṇāḥ svabhāve paryavasthitāḥ ॥12-188-3॥
[न (na) - not; आवर्तन्ते (āvartante) - return; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; पार्थ (pārtha) - O son of Pṛthā; मुक्ताः (muktāḥ) - liberated ones; संसार (saṃsāra) - of saṃsāra (cycle of birth and death); दोषतः (doṣataḥ) - from the fault; जन्म (janma) - of birth; दोष (doṣa) - fault; परिक्षीणाः (parikṣīṇāḥ) - who are exhausted; स्वभावे (svabhāve) - in their own nature; पर्यवस्थिताः (paryavasthitāḥ) - who are established;]
(Not return again, O Pārtha, the liberated ones from the fault of saṃsāra; those whose fault of birth is exhausted, are established in their own nature.)
O Pārtha, those who are liberated from the faults of saṃsāra do not return again; those whose faults of birth are exhausted remain established in their own true nature.
निर्द्वंद्वा नित्यसत्त्वस्था विमुक्ता नित्यमाश्रिताः। असङ्गीन्यविवादीनि मनःशान्तिकराणि च ॥१२-१८८-४॥
nirdvandvā nityasattvasthā vimuktā nityamāśritāḥ। asaṅgīnyavivādīni manaḥśāntikarāṇi ca ॥12-188-4॥
[निर्द्वंद्वा (nirdvandvā) - free from dualities; नित्यसत्त्वस्था (nityasattvasthā) - steadfast in eternal essence; विमुक्ता (vimuktā) - liberated; नित्यमाश्रिताः (nityamāśritāḥ) - always resorting; असङ्गीनि (asaṅgīni) - unattached; अविवादीनि (avivādīni) - free from dispute; मनःशान्तिकराणि (manaḥśāntikarāṇi) - causing peace of mind; च (ca) - and;]
(Free from dualities, steadfast in eternal essence, liberated, always resorting, unattached, free from dispute, and causing peace of mind.)
They are free from dualities, steadfast in eternal essence, liberated, always resorting to the eternal, unattached, free from disputes, and bring peace of mind.
तत्र स्वाध्यायसंश्लिष्टमेकाग्रं धारयेन्मनः। पिण्डीकृत्येन्द्रियग्राममासीनः काष्ठवन्मुनिः ॥१२-१८८-५॥
tatra svādhyāyasaṃśliṣṭamekāgraṃ dhārayen manaḥ। piṇḍīkṛtyendriyagrāmam āsīnaḥ kāṣṭhavan muniḥ॥12-188-5॥
[तत्र (tatra) - there; स्वाध्याय (svādhyāya) - self-study; संश्लिष्टम् (saṃśliṣṭam) - joined; एकाग्रं (ekāgram) - one-pointed; धारयेत् (dhārayet) - should hold; मनः (manaḥ) - mind; पिण्डीकृत्य (piṇḍīkṛtya) - having gathered; इन्द्रियग्रामम् (indriyagrāmam) - the group of senses; आसीनः (āsīnaḥ) - seated; काष्ठवत् (kāṣṭhavat) - like a log; मुनिः (muniḥ) - sage;]
(There, having joined the mind with self-study, one should hold it one-pointed. Having gathered the group of senses, seated like a log, the sage (should be).)
There, the sage should sit like a log, having gathered the senses, and hold the mind one-pointed, joined with self-study.
शब्दं न विन्देच्छ्रोत्रेण स्पर्शं त्वचा न वेदयेत्। रूपं न चक्षुषा विद्याज्जिह्वया न रसांस्तथा ॥१२-१८८-६॥
śabdaṃ na vindecchrotreṇa sparśaṃ tvacā na vedayet| rūpaṃ na cakṣuṣā vidyājjihvayā na rasāṃstathā ||12-188-6||
[शब्दं (śabdam) - sound; न (na) - not; विन्देत् (vindet) - should perceive; श्रोत्रेण (śrotreṇa) - by the ear; स्पर्शं (sparśam) - touch; त्वचा (tvacā) - by the skin; न (na) - not; वेदयेत् (vedayet) - should feel; रूपं (rūpam) - form; न (na) - not; चक्षुषा (cakṣuṣā) - by the eye; विद्याज् (vidyāj) - should know; जिह्वया (jihvayā) - by the tongue; न (na) - not; रसान् (rasān) - tastes; तथा (tathā) - so; ॥१२-१८८-६॥ (||12-188-6||) -;]
(Sound not should perceive by the ear, touch by the skin not should feel, form not by the eye should know, by the tongue not tastes so.)
One should not perceive sound with the ear, nor feel touch with the skin, nor know form with the eye, nor taste tastes with the tongue, in this way.
घ्रेयाण्यपि च सर्वाणि जह्याद्ध्यानेन योगवित्। पञ्चवर्गप्रमाथीनि नेच्छेच्चैतानि वीर्यवान् ॥१२-१८८-७॥
ghreyāṇy api ca sarvāṇi jahyād dhyānena yogavit। pañcavargapramāthīni necchec caitāni vīryavān॥12-188-7॥
[घ्रेयाणि (ghreyāṇi) - desirable things; अपि (api) - even; च (ca) - and; सर्वाणि (sarvāṇi) - all; जह्यात् (jahyāt) - should abandon; ध्यानेन (dhyānena) - by meditation; योगवित् (yogavit) - knower of yoga; पञ्चवर्गप्रमाथीनि (pañcavargapramāthīni) - pertaining to the fivefold group of destroyers; न (na) - not; इच्छेत् (icchet) - should desire; च (ca) - and; एतानि (etāni) - these; वीर्यवान् (vīryavān) - the strong one;]
(The knower of yoga, by meditation, should abandon even all desirable things; the strong one should not desire these fivefold groups of destroyers.)
The yogi, through meditation, should renounce all desirable things; the strong-minded should not wish for these fivefold destroyers.
ततो मनसि संसज्य पञ्चवर्गं विचक्षणः। समादध्यान्मनो भ्रान्तमिन्द्रियैः सह पञ्चभिः ॥१२-१८८-८॥
tato manasi saṁsajya pañcavargaṁ vicakṣaṇaḥ। samādadhyānmano bhrāntamindriyaiḥ saha pañcabhiḥ ॥12-188-8॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; मनसि (manasi) - in the mind; संसज्य (saṁsajya) - having joined; पञ्चवर्गं (pañcavargaṁ) - the group of five; विचक्षणः (vicakṣaṇaḥ) - the wise one; समादध्यात् (samādadhyāt) - should fix; मनः (manaḥ) - the mind; भ्रान्तम् (bhrāntam) - wandering; इन्द्रियैः (indriyaiḥ) - with the senses; सह (saha) - together with; पञ्चभिः (pañcabhiḥ) - the five;]
(Then, having joined the group of five in the mind, the wise one should fix the wandering mind together with the five senses.)
Then, the wise person, having gathered the group of five in the mind, should steady the restless mind along with the five senses.
विसञ्चारि निरालम्बं पञ्चद्वारं चलाचलम्। पूर्वे ध्यानपथे धीरः समादध्यान्मनोऽन्तरम् ॥१२-१८८-९॥
visañcāri nirālambaṃ pañcadvāraṃ calācalam। pūrve dhyānapathe dhīraḥ samādadhyānmano'ntaram ॥12-188-9॥
[विसञ्चारि (visañcāri) - moving about; निरालम्बं (nirālambaṃ) - without support; पञ्चद्वारं (pañcadvāraṃ) - having five doors; चलाचलम् (calācalam) - moving and unmoving; पूर्वे (pūrve) - in the former; ध्यानपथे (dhyānapathe) - on the path of meditation; धीरः (dhīraḥ) - the steadfast one; समादध्यात् (samādadhyāt) - should fix; मनः (manaḥ) - the mind; अन्तरम् (antaram) - within;]
(Moving about, without support, having five doors, moving and unmoving; in the former path of meditation, the steadfast one should fix the mind within.)
The mind, which moves about without support and has five doors, both moving and unmoving, should be fixed within by the steadfast one on the former path of meditation.
इन्द्रियाणि मनश्चैव यदा पिण्डीकरोत्ययम्। एष ध्यानपथः पूर्वो मया समनुवर्णितः ॥१२-१८८-१०॥
indriyāṇi manaścaiva yadā piṇḍīkarotyayam। eṣa dhyānapathaḥ pūrvo mayā samanuvarṇitaḥ ॥12-188-10॥
[इन्द्रियाणि (indriyāṇi) - senses; मनः (manaḥ) - mind; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; यदा (yadā) - when; पिण्डीकरोति (piṇḍīkaroti) - collects into a mass; अयम् (ayam) - this; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this; ध्यानपथः (dhyānapathaḥ) - path of meditation; पूर्वः (pūrvaḥ) - former; मया (mayā) - by me; समनुवर्णितः (samanuvarṇitaḥ) - fully described;]
(When this (person) collects the senses and the mind together, this former path of meditation has been fully described by me.)
When one gathers the senses and the mind together, I have already described this earlier path of meditation.
तस्य तत्पूर्वसंरुद्धं मनःषष्ठमनन्तरम्। स्फुरिष्यति समुद्भ्रान्तं विद्युदम्बुधरे यथा ॥१२-१८८-११॥
tasya tatpūrva-saṁruddhaṁ manaḥ-ṣaṣṭham-anantaram। sphuriṣyati samudbhrāntaṁ vidyud-ambudhare yathā ॥12-188-11॥
[तस्य (tasya) - of him; तत् (tat) - that; पूर्व (pūrva) - previous; संरुद्धं (saṁruddhaṁ) - restrained; मनःषष्ठम् (manaḥ-ṣaṣṭham) - the mind as the sixth (sense); अनन्तरम् (anantaram) - immediately after; स्फुरिष्यति (sphuriṣyati) - will spring forth; समुद्भ्रान्तं (samudbhrāntaṁ) - agitated; विद्युत् (vidyut) - lightning; अम्बुधरे (ambudhare) - in the cloud; यथा (yathā) - just as;]
(Of him, that previously restrained mind as the sixth (sense), immediately after, will spring forth, agitated, just as lightning in the cloud.)
His mind, which had previously been restrained, will suddenly surge forth, agitated, just like lightning in a cloud.
जलबिन्दुर्यथा लोलः पर्णस्थः सर्वतश्चलः। एवमेवास्य तच्चित्तं भवति ध्यानवर्त्मनि ॥१२-१८८-१२॥
jalabinduryathā lolaḥ parṇasthaḥ sarvataścalaḥ। evamevāsy taccittaṃ bhavati dhyānavartmani ॥12-188-12॥
[जलबिन्दुः (jalabinduḥ) - water-drop; यथा (yathā) - just as; लोलः (lolaḥ) - unsteady; पर्णस्थः (parṇasthaḥ) - situated on a leaf; सर्वतः (sarvataḥ) - from all sides; चलः (calaḥ) - moving; एवम् (evam) - so; एव (eva) - indeed; अस्य (asya) - of this; तत् (tat) - that; चित्तम् (cittam) - mind; भवति (bhavati) - becomes; ध्यानवर्त्मनि (dhyānavartmani) - on the path of meditation;]
(Just as a water-drop, unsteady, situated on a leaf, moves from all sides, so indeed the mind of this one becomes on the path of meditation.)
Just as a water-drop, unsteady and moving in all directions on a leaf, so too does this person's mind become restless on the path of meditation.
समाहितं क्षणं किञ्चिद्ध्यानवर्त्मनि तिष्ठति। पुनर्वायुपथं भ्रान्तं मनो भवति वायुवत् ॥१२-१८८-१३॥
samāhitaṃ kṣaṇaṃ kiñcid dhyānavartmani tiṣṭhati। punar vāyupathaṃ bhrāntaṃ mano bhavati vāyuvat ॥12-188-13॥
[समाहितं (samāhitaṃ) - collected; composed; concentrated; क्षणं (kṣaṇam) - moment; instant; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - a little; somewhat; ध्यानवर्त्मनि (dhyānavartmani) - on the path of meditation; तिष्ठति (tiṣṭhati) - remains; stays; पुनः (punar) - again; वायुपथं (vāyupatham) - the path of wind; air's way; भ्रान्तं (bhrāntam) - wandering; gone astray; मनः (manaḥ) - mind; भवति (bhavati) - becomes; वायुवत् (vāyuvat) - like the wind;]
(Collected for a moment, somewhat, on the path of meditation, it remains; again, on the path of wind, wandering, the mind becomes like the wind.)
For a moment, the mind remains somewhat collected on the path of meditation; but again, wandering on the path of the wind, it becomes like the wind.
अनिर्वेदो गतक्लेशो गततन्द्रीरमत्सरः। समादध्यात्पुनश्चेतो ध्यानेन ध्यानयोगवित् ॥१२-१८८-१४॥
anirvedo gatakleśo gatatandrīramatsaraḥ। samādadhyātpunaśceto dhyānena dhyānayogavit ॥12-188-14॥
[अनिर्वेदः (anirvedaḥ) - absence of despondency; गतक्लेशः (gatakleśaḥ) - one whose suffering has departed; गततन्द्रिः (gatatandrīḥ) - one whose lethargy has departed; अमत्सरः (amatsaraḥ) - free from envy; समादध्यात् (samādadhyāt) - should fix (the mind); पुनः (punaḥ) - again; चेतः (cetaḥ) - the mind; ध्यानेन (dhyānena) - by meditation; ध्यानयोगवित् (dhyānayogavit) - one who knows the yoga of meditation;]
(Absence of despondency, one whose suffering has departed, one whose lethargy has departed, free from envy; should fix again the mind by meditation, one who knows the yoga of meditation.)
One who is free from despondency, suffering, lethargy, and envy should again fix his mind in meditation, being skilled in the yoga of meditation.
विचारश्च वितर्कश्च विवेकश्चोपजायते। मुनेः समादधानस्य प्रथमं ध्यानमादितः ॥१२-१८८-१५॥
vicāraś ca vitarkaś ca vivekaś copajāyate। muneḥ samādhadhānasya prathamaṃ dhyānam āditaḥ ॥12-188-15॥
[विचारः (vicāraḥ) - deliberation; च (ca) - and; वितर्कः (vitarkaḥ) - reflection; च (ca) - and; विवेकः (vivekaḥ) - discernment; च (ca) - and; उपजायते (upajāyate) - arises; मुनेः (muneḥ) - of the sage; समादधानस्य (samādhadhānasya) - of one who is engaged in concentration; प्रथमम् (prathamaṃ) - first; ध्यानम् (dhyānam) - meditation; आदितः (āditaḥ) - at the beginning;]
(Deliberation and reflection and discernment arise for the sage who is engaged in concentration, at the beginning of the first meditation.)
At the beginning of the first meditation, deliberation, reflection, and discernment arise for the sage who is engaged in concentration.
मनसा क्लिश्यमानस्तु समाधानं च कारयेत्। न निर्वेदं मुनिर्गच्छेत्कुर्यादेवात्मनो हितम् ॥१२-१८८-१६॥
manasā kliśyamānastu samādhānaṃ ca kārayet। na nirvedaṃ munirgacchet kuryādeva ātmano hitam ॥12-188-16॥
[मनसा (manasā) - by the mind; क्लिश्यमानः (kliśyamānaḥ) - being afflicted; तु (tu) - but; समाधानम् (samādhānam) - resolution; च (ca) - and; कारयेत् (kārayet) - should cause to be done; न (na) - not; निर्वेदम् (nirvedam) - despondency; मुनिः (muniḥ) - sage; गच्छेत् (gacchet) - should go; कुर्यात् (kuryāt) - should do; एव (eva) - indeed; आत्मनः (ātmanaḥ) - for oneself; हितम् (hitam) - welfare;]
(But being afflicted in mind, one should cause resolution to be made and not let the sage go to despondency; indeed, one should do what is for one's own welfare.)
Even if troubled in mind, one should seek resolution and not let the sage fall into despair; one should always act for one's own welfare.
पांसुभस्मकरीषाणां यथा वै राशयश्चिताः। सहसा वारिणा सिक्ता न यान्ति परिभावनाम् ॥१२-१८८-१७॥
pāṃsubhasmakarīṣāṇāṃ yathā vai rāśayaścitāḥ। sahasā vāriṇā siktā na yānti paribhāvanām ॥12-188-17॥
[पांसु (pāṃsu) - dust; भस्म (bhasma) - ash; करीषाणां (karīṣāṇāṃ) - of dung; यथा (yathā) - just as; वै (vai) - indeed; राशयः (rāśayaḥ) - heaps; चिताः (citāḥ) - piled up; सहसा (sahasā) - suddenly; वारिणा (vāriṇā) - by water; सिक्ता (siktā) - soaked; न (na) - not; यान्ति (yānti) - go; परिभावनाम् (paribhāvanām) - to dissolution;]
(Just as indeed heaps of dust, ash, and dung, when suddenly soaked by water, do not go to dissolution.)

किञ्चित्स्निग्धं यथा च स्याच्छुष्कचूर्णमभावितम्। क्रमशस्तु शनैर्गच्छेत्सर्वं तत्परिभावनम् ॥१२-१८८-१८॥
kiñcit-snigdhaṃ yathā ca syāt śuṣka-cūrṇaṃ abhāvitam | kramaśas tu śanair gacchet sarvaṃ tat paribhāvanam ॥12-188-18॥
[किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - a little; स्निग्धं (snigdham) - unctuous; यथा (yathā) - as; च (ca) - and; स्यात् (syāt) - should be; शुष्कचूर्णम् (śuṣka-cūrṇam) - dry powder; अभावितम् (abhāvitam) - not moistened; क्रमशः (kramaśaḥ) - gradually; तु (tu) - but; शनैः (śanaiḥ) - slowly; गच्छेत् (gacchet) - should proceed; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; तत् (tat) - that; परिभावनम् (paribhāvanam) - moistening;]
(A little unctuous, as it should be, and the dry powder not moistened; but gradually, slowly, all that moistening should proceed.)
The powder should be made slightly unctuous, and if it is dry and not yet moistened, the moistening should be done gradually and slowly.
एवमेवेन्द्रियग्रामं शनैः सम्परिभावयेत्। संहरेत्क्रमशश्चैव स सम्यक्प्रशमिष्यति ॥१२-१८८-१९॥
evamevendriyagrāmaṃ śanaiḥ samparibhāvayet। saṃharetkramaśaścaiva sa samyakpraśamiṣyati ॥12-188-19॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; एव (eva) - indeed; इन्द्रियग्रामं (indriyagrāmam) - the group of senses; शनैः (śanaiḥ) - slowly; सम्परिभावयेत् (samparibhāvayet) - should restrain completely; संहरेत् (saṃharet) - should withdraw; क्रमशः (kramaśaḥ) - gradually; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; सः (saḥ) - he; सम्यक् (samyak) - properly; प्रशमिष्यति (praśamiṣyati) - will become tranquil;]
(Thus indeed, the group of senses should be completely restrained slowly; one should withdraw (them) gradually and indeed, he will become properly tranquil.)
In this way, one should slowly and thoroughly restrain the group of senses; withdrawing them gradually, he will indeed attain complete tranquility.
स्वयमेव मनश्चैव पञ्चवर्गश्च भारत। पूर्वं ध्यानपथं प्राप्य नित्ययोगेन शाम्यति ॥१२-१८८-२०॥
svayameva manaścaiva pañcavargaśca bhārata। pūrvaṃ dhyānapathaṃ prāpya nityayogena śāmyati ॥12-188-20॥
[स्वयम् (svayam) - by itself; एव (eva) - indeed; मनः (manaḥ) - mind; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; पञ्चवर्गः (pañcavargaḥ) - the group of five (senses); च (ca) - and; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata; पूर्वम् (pūrvam) - before; ध्यानपथम् (dhyānapatham) - the path of meditation; प्राप्य (prāpya) - having attained; नित्ययोगेन (nityayogena) - by constant union (practice of yoga); शाम्यति (śāmyati) - becomes tranquil;]
(By itself indeed, the mind and the group of five (senses), O Bhārata, before, having attained the path of meditation, by constant union (practice of yoga), becomes tranquil.)
O Bhārata, the mind and the five senses, by themselves, become tranquil through constant practice of yoga, having first attained the path of meditation.
न तत्पुरुषकारेण न च दैवेन केनचित्। सुखमेष्यति तत्तस्य यदेवं संयतात्मनः ॥१२-१८८-२१॥
na tatpuruṣakāreṇa na ca daivena kenacit। sukham eṣyati tat tasya yad evaṃ saṃyatātmanaḥ ॥12-188-21॥
[न (na) - not; तत्पुरुषकारेण (tatpuruṣakāreṇa) - by that personal effort; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; दैवेन (daivena) - by fate; केनचित् (kenacit) - by anyone; सुखम् (sukham) - happiness; एष्यति (eṣyati) - will attain; तत् (tat) - that; तस्य (tasya) - of him; यत् (yat) - which; एवं (evaṃ) - thus; संयतात्मनः (saṃyatātmanaḥ) - of the self-restrained one;]
(Not by that personal effort, nor by fate by anyone, that happiness will attain of him which thus of the self-restrained one.)
Happiness does not come to a person merely by personal effort or by fate alone; it comes to him who is thus self-restrained.
सुखेन तेन संयुक्तो रंस्यते ध्यानकर्मणि। गच्छन्ति योगिनो ह्येवं निर्वाणं तन्निरामयम् ॥१२-१८८-२२॥
sukhena tena saṁyukto raṁsyate dhyānakarmaṇi। gacchanti yogino hyevaṁ nirvāṇaṁ tannirāmayam ॥12-188-22॥
[सुखेन (sukhena) - with happiness; तेन (tena) - by him; संयुक्तः (saṁyuktaḥ) - joined; रंस्यते (raṁsyate) - delights; ध्यानकर्मणि (dhyānakarmaṇi) - in the act of meditation; गच्छन्ति (gacchanti) - go; योगिनः (yoginaḥ) - yogis; हि (hi) - indeed; एवम् (evam) - thus; निर्वाणम् (nirvāṇam) - liberation; तत् (tat) - that; निरामयम् (nirāmayam) - free from affliction;]
(With happiness, joined by him, he delights in the act of meditation. Thus, indeed, yogis go to that liberation which is free from affliction.)
He, united with happiness, delights in meditation. Thus, yogis indeed attain that liberation which is free from all affliction.
