श्रुतं मे भवतो वाक्यमन्नदानस्य यो विधिः। नक्षत्रयोगस्येदानीं दानकल्पं ब्रवीहि मे ॥१३-६३-१॥
śrutaṁ me bhavato vākyam annadānasya yo vidhiḥ। nakṣatrayogasya idānīṁ dānakalpaṁ bravīhi me ॥13-63-1॥

कृत्तिकासु महाभागे पायसेन ससर्पिषा। सन्तर्प्य ब्राह्मणान्साधूँल्लोकानाप्नोत्यनुत्तमान् ॥१३-६३-५॥
kṛttikāsu mahābhāge pāyasena sasarpiṣā। santarpya brāhmaṇān sādhūn lokān āpnoty anuttamān ॥13-63-5॥
[कृत्तिकासु (kṛttikāsu) - in (the time of) Kṛttikā (the lunar asterism); महाभागे (mahābhāge) - greatly fortunate (time); पायसेन (pāyasena) - with rice-milk (pudding); ससर्पिषा (sasarpiṣā) - with ghee; सन्तर्प्य (santarpya) - having satisfied; ब्राह्मणान् (brāhmaṇān) - Brāhmaṇas; साधून् (sādhūn) - virtuous (men); लोकान् (lokān) - worlds; आप्नोति (āpnoti) - obtains; gains; अनुत्तमान् (anuttamān) - unsurpassed; excellent;]
(In the greatly fortunate period of Kṛttikā, with rice-milk and ghee, having satisfied Brāhmaṇas and virtuous men, one obtains worlds unsurpassed.)
Offering rice-milk with ghee to Brāhmaṇas and virtuous men during the auspicious time of Kṛttikā, one attains the highest worlds. (13-63-5)
रोहिण्यां प्रथितैर्मांसैर्माषैरन्नेन सर्पिषा। पयोऽनुपानं दातव्यमानृण्यार्थं द्विजातये ॥१३-६३-६॥
rohiṇyāṃ prathitair māṃsair māṣair annena sarpiṣā। payo'nupānaṃ dātavyam ānṛṇyārthaṃ dvijātaye॥13-63-6॥
[रोहिण्यां (rohiṇyām) - in Rohiṇī nakṣatra; प्रथितैः (prathitaiḥ) - well-known; renowned; मांसैः (māṃsaiḥ) - with meats; माषैः (māṣaiḥ) - with black gram; अन्नेन (annena) - with cooked rice; सर्पिषा (sarpiṣā) - with ghee; पयः (payaḥ) - milk; अनुपानम् (anupānam) - as a drink to accompany; दातव्यम् (dātavyam) - should be given; अनृण्यार्थम् (ānṛṇyārtham) - for the purpose of being free of debt; द्विजातये (dvijātaye) - to a twice-born;]
(In Rohiṇī, with renowned meats, with black gram, with cooked rice, with ghee, milk as a drink to accompany should be given for the purpose of being free of debt to a twice-born.)
On the day of Rohiṇī, one should give to a twice-born person well-known meats, black gram, cooked rice, ghee, and milk as an accompanying drink, for the sake of becoming free from debts. (13-63-6)
दोग्ध्रीं दत्त्वा सवत्सां तु नक्षत्रे सोमदैवते। गच्छन्ति मानुषाल्लोकात्स्वर्गलोकमनुत्तमम् ॥१३-६३-७॥
dogdhrīṃ dattvā savatsāṃ tu nakṣatre somadaivate. gacchanti mānuṣāllokātsvargalokamanuttamam ॥13-63-7॥
[दोग्ध्रीं (dogdhrīṃ) - milch cow; दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; सवत्सां (savatsāṃ) - with (her) calf; तु (tu) - indeed; नक्षत्रे (nakṣatre) - on the star (asterism); सोमदैवते (somadaivate) - dedicated to Soma deity; गच्छन्ति (gacchanti) - they go; मानुषाल्लोकात् (mānuṣāllokāt) - from the world of men; स्वर्गलोकम् (svargalokam) - to heaven (world of heaven); अनुत्तमम् (anuttamam) - the highest;]
(Having given a milch cow with (her) calf indeed on the star day dedicated to the Soma deity, they go from the world of men to the highest world of heaven.)
By giving a milch cow with its calf on the day sacred to the Soma deity, one passes from the world of men to the highest realm of heaven. (13-63-7)
आर्द्रायां कृसरं दत्त्वा तैलमिश्रमुपोषितः। नरस्तरति दुर्गाणि क्षुरधारांश्च पर्वतान् ॥१३-६३-८॥
ārdrāyāṃ kṛsaraṃ dattvā taila-miśram-upoṣitaḥ. naraḥ tarati durgāṇi kṣuradhārāṃś ca parvatān ॥13-63-8॥
[आर्द्रायां (ārdrāyām) - on (the day of) Ārdrā (lunar asterism); कृसरं (kṛsaram) - kṛsara (a preparation of rice with pulses); दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; तैलमिश्रम् (taila-miśram) - mixed with oil; उपोṣितः (upoṣitaḥ) - having fasted; नरः (naraḥ) - man; तरति (tarati) - crosses; दुर्गाणि (durgāṇi) - difficulties; क्षुरधारान् (kṣuradhārān) - razor-sharp (paths); च (ca) - and; पर्वतान् (parvatān) - mountains;]
(On Ārdrā (lunar day), having given kṛsara mixed with oil, having fasted, a man crosses difficulties and razor-edged mountains.)
On the day of Ārdrā, one who has given kṛsara mixed with oil after fasting, crosses over difficulties and razor-edged mountains. (13-63-8)
अपूपान्पुनर्वसौ दत्त्वा तथैवान्नानि शोभने। यशस्वी रूपसम्पन्नो बह्वन्ने जायते कुले ॥१३-६३-९॥
apūpān punarvasau dattvā tathaiva annāni śobhane। yaśasvī rūpasampanno bahvanne jāyate kule ॥13-63-9॥
[अपूपान् (apūpān) - fried cakes; पुनः (punar) - again; वसौ (vasau) - the month of Vasā (Vaisākha); दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; तथैव (tathaiva) - in the same way; अन्नानि (annāni) - foods; शोभने (śobhane) - O beautiful lady; यशस्वी (yaśasvī) - illustrious; रूपसम्पन्नः (rūpasampannaḥ) - endowed with beauty; बह्वन्ने (bahvanne) - in a family possessing much food; जायते (jāyate) - is born; कुले (kule) - in the lineage;]
(Having given fried cakes again in the month of Vasā, in the same way foods, O beautiful lady, illustrious, endowed with beauty, in a family possessing much food, is born in the lineage.)
O beautiful lady, one who gives fried cakes and foods again in the month of Vasā (Vaisākha) is born in a renowned lineage, endowed with beauty and abundant food. (13-63-9)
पुष्ये तु कनकं दत्त्वा कृतं चाकृतमेव च। अनालोकेषु लोकेषु सोमवत्स विराजते ॥१३-६३-१०॥
puṣye tu kanakaṃ dattvā kṛtaṃ cākṛtameva ca। anālokeṣu lokeṣu somavatsa virājate ॥13-63-10॥
[पुष्ये (puṣye) - in Puṣya (nakṣatra); तु (tu) - but; कनकं (kanakaṃ) - gold; दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; कृतं (kṛtaṃ) - deed (performed); च (ca) - and; अकृतमेव (akṛtameva) - indeed (even) what is not done; च (ca) - and; अनालोकेषु (anālokeṣu) - in the worlds without light; लोकेषु (lokeṣu) - in worlds; सोमवत् (somavat) - like the moon; स (sa) - he; विराजते (virājate) - shines;]
(In Puṣya, but having given gold, the deed done and even what is not done, in the worlds without light, in the worlds, like the moon, he shines.)
But in the constellation Puṣya, having given gold, both performed and even unperformed deeds, in the worlds without light, he shines like the moon. (13-63-10)
आश्लेषायां तु यो रूप्यमृषभं वा प्रयच्छति। स सर्वभयनिर्मुक्तः शात्रवानधितिष्ठति ॥१३-६३-११॥
āśleṣāyāṁ tu yo rūpyam ṛṣabhaṁ vā prayacchati। sa sarva-bhaya-nirmuktaḥ śātravān adhitiṣṭhati ॥13-63-11॥
[आश्लेषायाम् (āśleṣāyām) - on Āśleṣā (lunar day); तु (tu) - but; यः (yaḥ) - who; रूप्यम् (rūpyam) - silver; ऋषभम् (ṛṣabham) - bull; वा (vā) - or; प्रयच्छति (prayacchati) - gives; सः (saḥ) - he; सर्वभयनिर्मुक्तः (sarva-bhaya-nirmuktaḥ) - freed from all fear; शात्रवान् (śātravān) - having enemies; अधितिष्ठति (adhitiṣṭhati) - remains;]
(On Āśleṣā but who silver or a bull gives, he freed from all fear having enemies remains.)
But he who gives silver or a bull on (the day of) Āśleṣā, he remains freed from all fear, even among enemies. (13-63-11)
मघासु तिलपूर्णानि वर्धमानानि मानवः। प्रदाय पुत्रपशुमानिह प्रेत्य च मोदते ॥१३-६३-१२॥
maghāsu tilapūrṇāni vardhamānāni mānavaḥ। pradāya putrapaśum āniha pretya ca modate॥13-63-12॥
[मघासु (maghāsu) - in the Maghā (nakṣatra); तिलपूर्णानि (tilapūrṇāni) - filled with sesame seeds; वर्धमानानि (vardhamānāni) - increasing; growing; मानवः (mānavaḥ) - man; human; प्रदाय (pradāya) - having given; after giving; पुत्रपशुमान् (putrapaśumān) - possessing sons and cattle; इह (iha) - here; in this world; प्रेत्य (pretya) - having departed; after death; च (ca) - and; मोदते (modate) - rejoices; enjoys;]
(In the Maghā, filled with sesame seeds, increasing, a man having given, possessing sons and cattle, here and after death rejoices.)
A man who, during the Maghā constellation, gives growing pots filled with sesame seeds, becomes possessed of sons and cattle, and rejoices both in this world and after death. (13-63-12)
फल्गुनीपूर्वसमये ब्राह्मणानामुपोषितः। भक्षान्फाणितसंयुक्तान्दत्त्वा सौभाग्यमृच्छति ॥१३-६३-१३॥
phalguni-pūrva-samaye brāhmaṇānām upoṣitaḥ। bhakṣān phāṇita-saṃyuktān dattvā saubhāgyam ṛcchati॥13-63-13॥
[फल्गुनीपूर्वसमये (phalguni-pūrva-samaye) - in the time before (the festival of the) Phalgunī; ब्राह्मणानाम् (brāhmaṇānām) - to the Brāhmaṇas; उपोṣितः (upoṣitaḥ) - having fasted; भक्षान् (bhakṣān) - food-items; फाणितसंयुक्तान् (phāṇita-saṃyuktān) - mixed with (liquid) sugar; दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; सौभाग्यम् (saubhāgyam) - good fortune; ऋच्छति (ṛcchati) - attains;]
(In the time before Phalgunī, having fasted, to the Brāhmaṇas, food-items mixed with sugar, having given, good fortune attains.)
If, before Phalgunī, one fasts and gives the Brāhmaṇas food mixed with sugar, one attains good fortune. (13-63-13)
घृतक्षीरसमायुक्तं विधिवत्षष्टिकौदनम्। उत्तराविषये दत्त्वा स्वर्गलोके महीयते ॥१३-६३-१४॥
ghṛta-kṣīra-samāyuktaṃ vidhivat ṣaṣṭika-udanam। uttarā-viṣaye dattvā svarga-loke mahīyate॥13-63-14॥
[घृत (ghṛta) - clarified butter; क्षीर (kṣīra) - milk; समायुक्तं (samāyuktaṃ) - mixed with; विधिवत् (vidhivat) - according to rule; षष्टिक (ṣaṣṭika) - early rice; औदनम् (audanam) - rice-food; उत्तर (uttara) - northern; विषये (viṣaye) - in the region; दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; स्वर्गलोके (svarga-loke) - in the heavenly world; महीयते (mahīyate) - is honored;]
(Clarified butter, milk, mixed, according to rule, early rice, rice-food, in the northern region, having given, in the heavenly world, is honored.)
One who gives rice food made from early rice, properly mixed with clarified butter and milk, in the northern region, is honored in the heavenly world. (13-63-14)
यद्यत्प्रदीयते दानमुत्तराविषये नरैः। महाफलमनन्तं च भवतीति विनिश्चयः ॥१३-६३-१५॥
yadyatpradīyate dānam uttarāviṣaye naraiḥ। mahāphalam anantaṃ ca bhavatīti viniścayaḥ ॥13-63-15॥
[यद्यत् (yadyat) - whatever; प्रदीयते (pradīyate) - is given; दानम् (dānam) - gift; उत्तराविषये (uttarāviṣaye) - in the future world; नरैः (naraiḥ) - by men; महाफलम् (mahāphalam) - great fruit; अनन्तं (anantam) - endless; च (ca) - and; भवति (bhavati) - becomes; इति (iti) - thus; विनिश्चयः (viniścayaḥ) - certainty;]
(Whatever gift is given in the future world by men, great fruit and endless does become; thus (is) certainty.)
Whatever gift men give in the future world certainly produces great and endless reward. (13-63-15)
हस्ते हस्तिरथं दत्त्वा चतुर्युक्तमुपोषितः। प्राप्नोति परमाँल्लोकान्पुण्यकामसमन्वितान् ॥१३-६३-१६॥
haste hastirathaṃ dattvā caturyuktamupoṣitaḥ। prāpnoti paramāṃllokān puṇyakāmasamanvitān ॥13-63-16॥
[हस्ते (haste) - in the hand; हस्तिरथं (hastiratham) - an elephant-cart; दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; चतुर्युक्तम् (caturyuktam) - yoked with four (horses or elephants); उपोषितः (upoṣitaḥ) - having fasted; प्राप्नोति (prāpnoti) - obtains; परमाँल्लोकान् (paramāṃl lokān) - the highest worlds; पुण्यकामसमन्वितान् (puṇyakāmasamanvitān) - endowed with virtuous desires;]
(In the hand an elephant-cart having given, yoked with four, having fasted, he obtains the highest worlds endowed with virtuous desires.)
Having given in his hand an elephant-cart yoked with four (elephants or horses), and having fasted, one obtains the highest worlds endowed with virtuous desires. (13-63-16)
चित्रायामृषभं दत्त्वा पुण्यान्गन्धांश्च भारत। चरत्यप्सरसां लोके रमते नन्दने तथा ॥१३-६३-१७॥
citrāyām ṛṣabhaṁ dattvā puṇyān gandhāṁś ca bhārata। caraty apsarasāṁ loke ramate nandane tathā ॥13-63-17॥
[चित्रायाम् (citrāyām) - in Citrā (a lunar mansion); ऋषभं (ṛṣabham) - a bull; दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; पुण्यान् (puṇyān) - meritorious; गन्धान् (gandhān) - perfumes; च (ca) - and; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata; चरति (carati) - moves; अप्सरसाम् (apsarasām) - of apsarases; लोके (loke) - in the world; रमते (ramate) - delights; नन्दने (nandane) - in Nandana (the celestial garden); तथा (tathā) - likewise;]
(In Citrā, a bull having given, meritorious perfumes and, O Bhārata, moves in the world of apsarases, delights likewise in Nandana.)
O Bhārata, one who has given a bull and meritorious perfumes during Citrā moves in the world of apsarases and delights likewise in the Nandana garden. (13-63-17)
स्वातावथ धनं दत्त्वा यदिष्टतममात्मनः। प्राप्नोति लोकान्स शुभानिह चैव महद्यशः ॥१३-६३-१८॥
svātāvatha dhanaṃ dattvā yadiṣṭatamam ātmanaḥ। prāpnoti lokān sa śubhān iha ca eva mahat yaśaḥ॥13-63-18॥
[स्वातावथ (svāta avatha) - after quenching thirst; or then; धनं (dhanaṃ) - wealth; दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; यदिष्टतमम् (yad iṣṭatamam) - what is the most desired; आत्मनः (ātmanaḥ) - of oneself; प्राप्नोति (prāpnoti) - obtains; लोकान् (lokān) - worlds; सः (saḥ) - he; शुभान् (śubhān) - auspicious; इह (iha) - here; चैव (ca eva) - and also; महद्यशः (mahat yaśaḥ) - great fame;]
(After quenching thirst, having given away wealth which is most desired by oneself, he obtains auspicious worlds and also here, great fame.)
When, after quenching his own thirst, a person gives away the wealth most cherished by himself, he attains auspicious worlds and, even here, great fame. (13-63-18)
विशाखायामनड्वाहं धेनुं दत्त्वा च दुग्धदाम्। सप्रासङ्गं च शकटं सधान्यं वस्त्रसंयुतम् ॥१३-६३-१९॥
viśākhāyāmanadvāhaṃ dhenuṃ dattvā ca dugdhadām। saprāsaṅgaṃ ca śakaṭaṃ sadhānyaṃ vastrasaṃyutam ॥13-63-19॥
[विशाखायाम् (viśākhāyām) - in Viśākhā (the lunar mansion); अनड्वाहम् (anadvāham) - bullock-drawn (cart); धेनुं (dhenuṃ) - cow; दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; च (ca) - and; दुग्धदाम् (dugdhadām) - rope for milking (the cow); सप्रासङ्गं (saprāsaṅgaṃ) - with accompanying (accessories); च (ca) - and; शकटं (śakaṭaṃ) - cart; सधान्यं (sadhānyaṃ) - with grain; वस्त्रसंयुतम् (vastrasaṃyutam) - accompanied by cloth;]
(In Viśākhā, bullock-drawn cart, cow, having given, and rope for milking; with accessories, and cart, with grain, accompanied by cloth.)
In the Viśākhā (lunar mansion), having given a bullock-drawn cart, a cow, a rope for milking, together with accessories, and a cart filled with grain and accompanied by cloth. (13-63-19)
पितॄन्देवांश्च प्रीणाति प्रेत्य चानन्त्यमश्नुते। न च दुर्गाण्यवाप्नोति स्वर्गलोकं च गच्छति ॥१३-६३-२०॥
pitṝn devāṁś ca prīṇāti pretya ca anantyam aśnute। na ca durgāṇi avāpnoti svargalokaṁ ca gacchati॥13-63-20॥
[पितॄन् (pitṝn) - forefathers; देवान् (devān) - gods; च (ca) - and; प्रीणाति (prīṇāti) - pleases; प्रेत्य (pretya) - having departed (after death); च (ca) - and; अनन्त्यम् (anantyam) - eternity; अश्नुते (aśnute) - attains; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; दुर्गाणि (durgāṇi) - difficulties; अवाप्नोति (avāpnoti) - attains; स्वर्गलोकम् (svargalokam) - the heaven-world; च (ca) - and; गच्छति (gacchati) - goes;]
(He pleases the forefathers and the gods; having departed, he attains eternity. And he does not attain difficulties, and he goes to the heaven-world.)
He pleases both his forefathers and the gods; after death, he attains the eternal, does not encounter difficulties, and goes to the world of heaven. (13-63-20)
दत्त्वा यथोक्तं विप्रेभ्यो वृत्तिमिष्टां स विन्दति। नरकादींश्च सङ्क्लेशान्नाप्नोतीति विनिश्चयः ॥१३-६३-२१॥
dattvā yathoktaṃ viprebhyo vṛttimiṣṭāṃ sa vindati। narakādīṃś ca saṅkleśān nāpnūtīti viniścayaḥ ॥13-63-21॥
[दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; यथोक्तं (yathoktam) - as stated; विप्रेभ्यः (viprebhyaḥ) - to the Brāhmaṇas; वृत्तिम् (vṛttim) - livelihood; इष्टाम् (iṣṭām) - desired; सः (saḥ) - he; विन्दति (vindati) - obtains; नरक-आदीन् (naraka-ādīn) - hell and others; च (ca) - and; सङ्क्लेशान् (saṅkleśān) - torments; न (na) - not; आप्नुति (āpnūti) - attains; इति (iti) - thus; विनिश्चयः (viniścayaḥ) - certainty;]
(Having given as stated desired livelihood to the Brāhmaṇas, he obtains; hell and other torments and not attains, thus (it is) certainty.)
Having given to the Brāhmaṇas the prescribed and desired livelihood, he obtains benefit; (he) certainly does not attain hell and other torments. (13-63-21)
अनुराधासु प्रावारं वस्त्रान्तरमुपोषितः। दत्त्वा युगशतं चापि नरः स्वर्गे महीयते ॥१३-६३-२२॥
anurādhāsu prāvāraṃ vastrāntaram upoṣitaḥ। dattvā yugaśataṃ cāpi naraḥ svarge mahīyate॥13-63-22॥
[अनुराधासु (anurādhāsu) - in the (days of) Anurādhā (nakṣatra); प्रावारम् (prāvāram) - cloak; wrap; वस्त्रान्तरम् (vastrāntaram) - another garment; inner cloth; उपोषितः (upoṣitaḥ) - having fasted; दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; युगशतम् (yugaśatam) - hundred ages; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; नरः (naraḥ) - man; स्वर्गे (svarge) - in heaven; महीयते (mahīyate) - is honored;]
(In (the days of) Anurādhā (nakṣatra), having fasted with a cloak and another garment, having given (charity), for a hundred ages also, the man is honored in heaven.)
If, during the time of Anurādhā nakṣatra, a man fasts while wearing a cloak and another garment, and after giving charity, he is honored in heaven for a hundred ages. (13-63-22)
कालशाकं तु विप्रेभ्यो दत्त्वा मर्त्यः समूलकम्। ज्येष्ठायामृद्धिमिष्टां वै गतिमिष्टां च विन्दति ॥१३-६३-२३॥
kālaśākaṃ tu viprebhyo dattvā martyaḥ samūlakam। jyeṣṭhāyām ṛddhim iṣṭāṃ vai gatim iṣṭāṃ ca vindati॥13-63-23॥

(Amaranth but to the Brāhmaṇas having given a mortal with roots, in the month of Jyeṣṭha prosperity desired indeed and goal desired finds.)
But if a mortal gives amaranth with roots to the Brāhmaṇas in the month of Jyeṣṭha, he attains both the desired prosperity and the desired goal. (13-63-23)
मूले मूलफलं दत्त्वा ब्राह्मणेभ्यः समाहितः। पितॄन्प्रीणयते चापि गतिमिष्टां च गच्छति ॥१३-६३-२४॥
mūle mūlaphalaṃ dattvā brāhmaṇebhyaḥ samāhitaḥ। pitṝn prīṇayate cāpi gatimiṣṭāṃ ca gacchati ॥13-63-24॥
[मूले (mūle) - at the root; मूलफलं (mūlaphalam) - root-fruit; दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; ब्राह्मणेभ्यः (brāhmaṇebhyaḥ) - to the Brāhmaṇas; समाहितः (samāhitaḥ) - composed; पितॄन् (pitṝn) - the ancestors; प्रीणयते (prīṇayate) - satisfies; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; गतिम् (gatim) - state; इष्टां (iṣṭām) - desired; च (ca) - and; गच्छति (gacchati) - goes;]
(At the root, root-fruit having given to the Brāhmaṇas, composed, the ancestors satisfies and also the desired state and goes.)
One who, being composed, gives root-fruit at the root to the Brāhmaṇas, satisfies his ancestors and also attains the desired state. (13-63-24)
अथ पूर्वास्वषाढासु दधिपात्राण्युपोषितः। कुलवृत्तोपसम्पन्ने ब्राह्मणे वेदपारगे ॥ प्रदाय जायते प्रेत्य कुले सुबहुगोकुले ॥१३-६३-२५॥
atha pūrvāsv aṣāḍhāsu dadhipātrāṇy upoṣitaḥ। kulavṛttopasampanne brāhmaṇe vedapārage॥ pradāya jāyate pretya kule subahugokule॥13-63-25॥
[अथ (atha) - then; पूर्वास्वषाढासु (pūrvāsu aṣāḍhāsu) - in the early Aṣāḍhā (lunar days); दधिपात्राणि (dadhipātrāṇi) - curd vessels; उपोषितः (upoṣitaḥ) - after fasting; कुलवृत्तोपसम्पन्ने (kulavṛttopasampanne) - endowed with family conduct; ब्राह्मणे (brāhmaṇe) - to a Brāhmaṇa; वेदपारगे (vedapārage) - versed in the Vedas; प्रदाय (pradāya) - having given; जायते (jāyate) - is born; प्रेत्य (pretya) - after death; कुले (kule) - in family; सुबहुगोकुले (subahugokule) - with many herds of cows;]
(Then in the early Aṣāḍhā lunar days, after fasting, curd vessels having given to a Brāhmaṇa endowed with family conduct and versed in the Vedas, one is born after death in a family with many herds of cows.)
At the beginning of the Aṣāḍhā month, after fasting, by giving vessels of curd to a Brāhmaṇa who is accomplished in family conduct and learned in the Vedas, one is reborn after death in a family blessed with many cows. (13-63-25)
उदमन्थं ससर्पिष्कं प्रभूतमधुफाणितम्। दत्त्वोत्तरास्वषाढासु सर्वकामानवाप्नुयात् ॥१३-६३-२६॥
udamanthaṃ sasarpiṣkaṃ prabhūtamadhuphāṇitam। dattvottarāsv aṣāḍhāsu sarvakāmānavāpnuyāt ॥13-63-26॥
[उदमन्थम् (udamantham) - milk and barley mixture; ससर्पिष्कम् (sasarpiṣkam) - with ghee; प्रभूतमधुफाणितम् (prabhūtamadhuphāṇitam) - abundant with honey and sugar; दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; उत्तरासु (uttarāsu) - in (the lunar mansion) Uttarā-; षाढासु (ṣāḍhāsu) - Aṣāḍhā (Nakṣatra, star); सर्वकामान् (sarvakāmān) - all desires; अवाप्नुयात् (avāpnuyāt) - may attain;]
(Milk and barley mixture with ghee, abundant with honey and sugar, having given in the (lunar mansion) Uttarā-Aṣāḍhā, all desires may attain.)
One who gives milk and barley mixture with ghee, abundant with honey and sugar, during the (lunar mansion) Uttarā-Aṣāḍhā, may attain all desires. (13-63-26)
दुग्धं त्वभिजिते योगे दत्त्वा मधुघृताप्लुतम्। धर्मनित्यो मनीषिभ्यः स्वर्गलोके महीयते ॥१३-६३-२७॥
dugdhaṃ tvabhijite yoge dattvā madhu-ghṛtāplutam। dharma-nityo manīṣibhyaḥ svarga-loke mahīyate ॥13-63-27॥
[दुग्धम् (dugdham) - milk; तु (tu) - but; अभिजिते (abhijite) - in the time of Abhijit (a specific period or constellation); योगे (yoge) - at the conjunction (auspicious moment); दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; मधुघृताप्लुतम् (madhu-ghṛtāplutam) - soaked with honey and ghee; धर्मनित्यः (dharma-nityaḥ) - one who is always devoted to dharma; मनीषिभ्यः (manīṣibhyaḥ) - to the wise (ones); स्वर्गलोके (svarga-loke) - in the heavenly world; महीयते (mahīyate) - is honored;]
(Milk, but in the Abhijit conjunction having given, soaked with honey and ghee, the one always devoted to dharma, to the wise, in the heavenly world is honored.)
But milk given at the auspicious period of Abhijit, soaked with honey and ghee, by one always devoted to dharma to the wise, is honored in the world of heaven. (13-63-27)
श्रवणे कम्बलं दत्त्वा वस्त्रान्तरितमेव च। श्वेतेन याति यानेन सर्वलोकानसंवृतान् ॥१३-६३-२८॥
śravaṇe kambalaṃ dattvā vastrāntaritam eva ca। śvetena yānti yānena sarvalokān asaṃvṛtān ॥13-63-28॥
[श्रवणे (śravaṇe) - in the ear; कम्बलं (kambalaṃ) - a blanket; दत्त्वा (dattvā) - giving; वस्त्रान्तरितम् (vastrāntaritam) - wrapped in cloth; एव (eva) - indeed; च (ca) - and; श्वेतेन (śvetena) - by white; यानेन (yānena) - by vehicle; सर्वलोकान् (sarvalokān) - all worlds; असंवृतान् (asaṃvṛtān) - unconcealed;]
(Having given a blanket in the ear, and indeed wrapped with cloth, by a white vehicle he goes, all worlds unconcealed.)
Having given a blanket to the ear (for the ear), and one wrapped in cloth, he proceeds by a white vehicle to worlds that are unobstructed (without concealment). (13-63-28)
गोप्रयुक्तं धनिष्ठासु यानं दत्त्वा समाहितः। वस्त्ररश्मिधरं सद्यः प्रेत्य राज्यं प्रपद्यते ॥१३-६३-२९॥
goprayuktaṃ dhaniṣṭhāsu yānaṃ dattvā samāhitaḥ। vastra-raśmi-dharaṃ sadyaḥ pretya rājyaṃ prapadyate॥13-63-29॥
[गोप्रयुक्तम् (goprayuktam) - drawn by cows; धनिष्ठासु (dhaniṣṭhāsu) - on auspicious (vehicles); यानम् (yānam) - vehicle; दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; समाहितः (samāhitaḥ) - concentrated; वस्त्ररश्मिधरम् (vastra-raśmi-dharam) - bearing reins of cloth; सद्यः (sadyaḥ) - immediately; प्रेत्य (pretya) - having passed away; राज्यम् (rājyam) - kingdom; प्रपद्यते (prapadyate) - attains;]
(One, having given a vehicle drawn by cows with auspiciousness, bearing reins of cloth, with concentrated mind, immediately after death attains a kingdom.)
By giving with a concentrated mind a vehicle drawn by cows, equipped with cloth reins, one immediately after death attains a kingdom. (13-63-29)
गन्धाञ्शतभिषग्योगे दत्त्वा सागुरुचन्दनान्। प्राप्नोत्यप्सरसां लोकान्प्रेत्य गन्धांश्च शाश्वतान् ॥१३-६३-३०॥
gandhāñ śatabhiṣagyoge dattvā sāgurucandanān। prāpnoty apsarasāṁ lokān pretya gandhāṁś ca śāśvatān ॥13-63-30॥
[गन्धान् (gandhān) - scents; शतभिषग्योगे (śatabhiṣag-yoge) - at the conjunction of Śatabhiṣak (lunar asterism); दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; सागुरु-चन्दनान् (sāguru-candanān) - with aguru (aloeswood) and sandalwood; प्राप्नोति (prāpnoti) - he obtains; अप्सरसां (apsarasām) - of the Apsarases; लोकान् (lokān) - worlds; प्रेत्य (pretya) - having departed; गन्धान् (gandhān) - scents; च (ca) - and; शाश्वतान् (śāśvatān) - eternal;]
(Scents at the conjunction of Śatabhiṣak, having given, with aguru and sandalwood, he obtains the worlds of the Apsarases, having departed, and eternal scents.)
Having offered scents, with aguru and sandalwood, at the conjunction of the Śatabhiṣak asterism, one obtains after death the worlds of the Apsarases and everlasting fragrances. (13-63-30)
पूर्वभाद्रपदायोगे राजमाषान्प्रदाय तु। सर्वभक्षफलोपेतः स वै प्रेत्य सुखी भवेत् ॥१३-६३-३१॥
pūrvabhādrapadāyoge rājamāṣān pradāya tu। sarvabhakṣaphalopetaḥ sa vai pretya sukhī bhavet॥13-63-31॥
[पूर्वभाद्रपदायोगे (pūrvabhādrapadāyoge) - in the conjunction of Pūrvabhādrā (nakṣatra); राजमाषान् (rājamāṣān) - black gram beans; प्रदाय (pradāya) - having given; तु (tu) - but; सर्वभक्षफलोपेतः (sarvabhakṣaphalopetaḥ) - endowed with results of consuming all foods; स (sa) - he; वै (vai) - indeed; प्रेत्य (pretya) - after death; सुखी (sukhī) - happy; भवेत् (bhavet) - may become;]
(In the conjunction of Pūrvabhādrā, having given black gram beans but, endowed with the result of consuming all foods, he indeed after death may become happy.)
If one gives black gram beans during the conjunction of Pūrvabhādrā, he becomes endowed with all the enjoyments of food and will indeed be happy after death. (13-63-31)
औरभ्रमुत्तरायोगे यस्तु मांसं प्रयच्छति। स पितॄन्प्रीणयति वै प्रेत्य चानन्त्यमश्नुते ॥१३-६३-३२॥
aurabhramuttarāyoge yastu māṁsaṁ prayacchati। sa pitṝnprīṇayati vai pretya cānantyam-aśnute ॥13-63-32॥
[औरभ्रमुत्तरायोगे (aurabhramuttarāyoge) - at the time of the aurabhramuttara rite; यः (yaḥ) - who; तु (tu) - but; मांसम् (māṁsam) - meat; प्रयच्छति (prayacchati) - gives; सः (saḥ) - he; पितॄन् (pitṝn) - ancestors; प्रीणयति (prīṇayati) - pleases; वै (vai) - indeed; प्रेत्य (pretya) - having departed (after death); च (ca) - and; अनन्त्यम् (anantyam) - endlessness; immortality; अश्नुते (aśnute) - obtains;]
(At the time of the aurabhramuttara rite, who but offers meat, he pleases the ancestors indeed, and having departed, obtains endlessness.)

कांस्योपदोहनां धेनुं रेवत्यां यः प्रयच्छति। सा प्रेत्य कामानादाय दातारमुपतिष्ठति ॥१३-६३-३३॥
kāṁsyopadohanāṁ dhenuṁ revatyāṁ yaḥ prayacchati। sā pretya kāmān ādāya dātāram upatiṣṭhati॥13-63-33॥
[कांस्योपदोहनां (kāṁsyopadohanām) - having a milking-pail of bronze; धेनुं (dhenuṁ) - cow; रेवत्यां (revatyām) - at (the time) of Revati (a nakṣatra); यः (yaḥ) - who; प्रयच्छति (priyacchati) - gives; सा (sā) - she; प्रेत्य (pretya) - having departed (after death); कामान् (kāmān) - desires; आदाय (ādāya) - having taken; दातारम् (dātāram) - the giver; उपतिष्ठति (upatiṣṭhati) - approaches;]
(Who gives a cow with a bronze milking-pail at (the time) of Revati, she, having died, takes desires and approaches the giver.)
Whoever gives a cow with a bronze milking-pail at the time of Revati, that cow, after death, takes the fulfillments of desires and approaches the giver. (13-63-33)
रथमश्वसमायुक्तं दत्त्वाश्विन्यां नरोत्तमः। हस्त्यश्वरथसम्पन्ने वर्चस्वी जायते कुले ॥१३-६३-३४॥
rathamaśvasamāyuktaṃ dattvāśvinyāṃ narottamaḥ। hastyaśvarathasampanne varcasvī jāyate kule ॥13-63-34॥
[रथमश्वसमायुक्तं (rathamaśvasamāyuktam) - chariot and horses together yoked; दत्त्वा (dattvā) - having given; अश्विन्यां (aśvinyām) - in (the nakṣatra) Aśvinī; नरोत्तमः (narottamaḥ) - the best of men; हस्त्यश्वरथसम्पन्ने (hastyaśvarathasampanne) - rich in elephants, horses, and chariots; वर्चस्वी (varcasvī) - brilliant; जायते (jāyate) - is born; कुले (kule) - in the family;]
(Chariot and horses together yoked having given in (the nakṣatra) Aśvinī, the best of men, rich in elephants, horses, and chariots, brilliant is born in the family.)
If the best of men gives a yoked chariot with horses during the Aśvinī nakṣatra, a brilliant person, endowed with wealth in elephants, horses, and chariots, is born in his family. (13-63-34)
भरणीषु द्विजातिभ्यस्तिलधेनुं प्रदाय वै। गाः सुप्रभूताः प्राप्नोति नरः प्रेत्य यशस्तथा ॥१३-६३-३५॥
bharaṇīṣu dvijātibhyaḥ tiladhenum pradāya vai। gāḥ suprabhūtāḥ prāpnoti naraḥ pretya yaśas tathā॥13-63-35॥
[भरणीषु (bharaṇīṣu) - in (the days of) Bharaṇī (nakṣatra); द्विजातिभ्यः (dvijātibhyaḥ) - to the twice-born; तिलधेनुम् (tiladhenum) - sesame-cow (cow made of sesame); प्रदाय (pradāya) - having given; वै (vai) - indeed; गाः (gāḥ) - cows; सुप्रभूताः (suprabhūtāḥ) - very abundant; प्राप्नोति (prāpnoti) - attains; नरः (naraḥ) - the man; प्रेत्य (pretya) - after death; यशः (yaśas) - fame; तथा (tathā) - likewise;]
(In Bharaṇī (days) to the twice-born a sesame-cow having given indeed, cows very abundant attains the man after death, fame likewise.)
If a man gives a sesame-cow to the twice-born during the days of Bharaṇī, he attains abundant cows and fame after death. (13-63-35)
