एतस्मिन्नेव काले तु वसिष्ठमृषिसत्तमम्। इक्ष्वाकुवंशजो राजा सौदासो ददतां वरः ॥१३-७७-१॥
etasminn eva kāle tu vasiṣṭham ṛṣi-sattamam। ikṣvāku-vaṃśa-jaḥ rājā saudāsaḥ dadataṃ varaḥ ॥13-77-1॥
[एतस्मिन्नेव (etasminn eva) - in this very (time); काले (kāle) - in the time; तु (tu) - but; वसिष्ठम् (vasiṣṭham) - Vasiṣṭha (accusative, to Vasiṣṭha); ऋषिसत्तमम् (ṛṣi-sattamam) - the foremost of sages; इक्ष्वाकुवंशजः (ikṣvāku-vaṃśa-jaḥ) - born in the Ikṣvāku lineage; राजा (rājā) - king; सौदासः (saudāsaḥ) - Saudāsa (proper name); ददतां (dadataṃ) - of those who give; वरः (varaḥ) - boon (subject, nominative);]
(In this very time, but to Vasiṣṭha, the foremost of sages, Ikṣvāku-lineage-born king Saudāsa, of those who give, boon.)
At that very time, King Saudāsa of the Ikṣvāku lineage, a chief among donors, granted a boon to Vasiṣṭha, the foremost of sages. (13-77-1)
सर्वलोकचरं सिद्धं ब्रह्मकोशं सनातनम्। पुरोहितमिदं प्रष्टुमभिवाद्योपचक्रमे ॥१३-७७-२॥
sarvalokacaraṃ siddhaṃ brahmakoshaṃ sanātanam। purohitam idaṃ praṣṭum abhivādya upacakrame ॥13-77-2॥
[सर्वलोकचरम् (sarvalokacaram) - moving in all worlds; (that which pervades all worlds); सिद्धम् (siddham) - accomplished; ब्रह्मकोशम् (brahmakosham) - the treasury of brahman; (repository of knowledge of Brahman); सनातनम् (sanātanam) - eternal; पुरोहितम् (purohitam) - the priest; इदम् (idam) - this; प्रष्टुम् (praṣṭum) - to ask; अभिवाद्य (abhivādya) - having saluted; उपचक्रमे (upacakrame) - he commenced;]
(Moving in all worlds, accomplished, the treasury of Brahman, eternal, the priest — this, to ask, having saluted, he commenced. (13-77-2))
Having saluted the priest, who is accomplished, eternal, the repository of Brahman and pervades all worlds, he began to ask him. (13-77-2)

त्रैलोक्ये भगवन्किं स्वित्पवित्रं कथ्यतेऽनघ। यत्कीर्तयन्सदा मर्त्यः प्राप्नुयात्पुण्यमुत्तमम् ॥१३-७७-३॥

(In the three worlds, O Lord, what indeed is the purifying (thing) said, O sinless one, which praising always, mortal may attain merit highest?)
O Lord, in all the three worlds, O sinless one, what is said to be the most purifying (thing), by praising which always a mortal may attain the highest merit? (13-77-3)

तस्मै प्रोवाच वचनं प्रणताय हितं तदा। गवामुपनिषद्विद्वान्नमस्कृत्य गवां शुचिः ॥१३-७७-४॥
tasmai provāca vacanaṃ praṇatāya hitaṃ tadā। gavām upaniṣad-vidvān namaskṛtya gavāṃ śuciḥ ॥13-77-4॥
[तस्मै (tasmai) - to him; प्रोवाच (provāca) - spoke; वचनं (vacanam) - word; प्रणताय (praṇatāya) - to the one who was bowed; हितं (hitaṃ) - beneficial; तदा (tadā) - then; गवाम् (gavām) - of the cows; उपनिषद्-विद्वान् (upaniṣad-vidvān) - knower of the Upaniṣad (secret doctrine); नमस्कृत्य (namaskṛtya) - having bowed; गवां (gavāṃ) - of the cows; शुचिः (śuciḥ) - the pure;]
(To him, spoke a word to the one who was bowed, beneficial, then. Of the cows, the knower of the Upaniṣad, having bowed, of the cows, the pure one.)
Then, the pure one, knower of the Upaniṣad of the cows, having bowed to the cows, spoke a beneficial word to him who had bowed. (13-77-4)
गावः सुरभिगन्धिन्यस्तथा गुग्गुलुगन्धिकाः। गावः प्रतिष्ठा भूतानां गावः स्वस्त्ययनं महत् ॥१३-७७-५॥
gāvaḥ surabhi-gandhinyaḥ tathā guggulu-gandhikāḥ। gāvaḥ pratiṣṭhā bhūtānām gāvaḥ svastyayanaṃ mahat ॥13-77-5॥
[गावः (gāvaḥ) - cows; सुरभिगन्धिन्यः (surabhi-gandhinyaḥ) - having the fragrance of sweet scent; तथा (tathā) - thus; also; गुग्गुलुगन्धिकाः (guggulu-gandhikāḥ) - having the fragrance of guggulu gum; गावः (gāvaḥ) - cows; प्रतिष्ठा (pratiṣṭhā) - foundation; भूतानाम् (bhūtānām) - of beings; गावः (gāvaḥ) - cows; स्वस्त्ययनम् (svastyayanam) - source of wellbeing; महत् (mahat) - great;]
(Cows, having sweet fragrance, and thus (also) having the fragrance of guggulu gum; cows (are) the foundation of beings; cows (are) a great source of wellbeing.)
Cows, scented with sweet and guggulu fragrances, are the foundation of all beings and a great source of wellbeing. (13-77-5)
गावो भूतं भविष्यच्च गावः पुष्टिः सनातनी। गावो लक्ष्म्यास्तथा मूलं गोषु दत्तं न नश्यति ॥ अन्नं हि सततं गावो देवानां परमं हविः ॥१३-७७-६॥
gāvo bhūtaṃ bhaviṣyacca gāvaḥ puṣṭiḥ sanātanī। gāvo lakṣmyāstathā mūlaṃ goṣu dattaṃ na naśyati॥ annaṃ hi satataṃ gāvo devānāṃ paramaṃ haviḥ॥13-77-6॥

(Cows [are] past and future and cows [are] nourishment eternal. Cows [are] also the root of Lakṣmī. In cows, that which is given does not perish. Food indeed always [is] cows, [it is] the supreme offering of the gods. (13-77-6))
Cows are the past and the future; cows are eternal nourishment. Cows are also the root of Lakṣmī, and what is given to cows is never destroyed. Food always comes from cows and is the foremost offering to the gods. (13-77-6)
स्वाहाकारवषट्कारौ गोषु नित्यं प्रतिष्ठितौ। गावो यज्ञस्य हि फलं गोषु यज्ञाः प्रतिष्ठिताः ॥१३-७७-७॥
svāhākāravaṣaṭkārau goṣu nityaṃ pratiṣṭhitau। gāvo yajñasya hi phalaṃ goṣu yajñāḥ pratiṣṭhitāḥ॥13-77-7॥

The invocations 'svāhā' and 'vaṣaṭ' are always established in cows. Cows are truly the fruit of sacrifice, and within cows, all sacrifices are established. (13-77-7)
सायं प्रातश्च सततं होमकाले महामते। गावो ददति वै होम्यमृषिभ्यः पुरुषर्षभ ॥१३-७७-८॥
sāyaṃ prātaśca satataṃ homakāle mahāmate। gāvo dadati vai homyam ṛṣibhyaḥ puruṣarṣabha ॥13-77-8॥
[सायं (sāyam) - in the evening; प्रातः (prātaḥ) - in the morning; च (ca) - and; सततम् (satatam) - always; होमकाले (homakāle) - at the time of the oblation; महामते (mahāmate) - O great-minded one; गावः (gāvaḥ) - the cows; ददति (dadati) - give; वै (vai) - indeed; होम्यम् (homyam) - that which is to be offered in the oblation; ऋषिभ्यः (ṛṣibhyaḥ) - to the sages; पुरुषर्षभ (puruṣarṣabha) - O best among men;]
(In the evening, in the morning, and always, at the time of the oblation, O great-minded one, the cows indeed give what is to be offered in the oblation to the sages, O best among men.)
O best among men, O great-minded one, at the time of the oblation, both in the evening and in the morning, the cows always indeed give the offering (homya) to the sages. (13-77-8)
कानिचिद्यानि दुर्गाणि दुष्कृतानि कृतानि च। तरन्ति चैव पाप्मानं धेनुं ये ददति प्रभो ॥१३-७७-९॥
kānicidyāni durgāṇi duṣkṛtāni kṛtāni ca. taranti caiva pāpmānaṁ dhenuṁ ye dadati prabho ॥13-77-9॥
[कानि (kāni) - which (things); चिद् (cid) - even; यानि (yāni) - which (plural neuter); दुर्गाणि (durgāṇi) - difficulties; दुष्कृतानि (duṣkṛtāni) - evil deeds; कृतानि (kṛtāni) - (that have been) done; च (ca) - and; तरन्ति (taranti) - cross over; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; पाप्मानम् (pāpmānam) - sin; धेनुम् (dhenum) - cow; ये (ye) - those who; ददति (dadati) - give; प्रभो (prabho) - O lord;]
(Which even, which (ones) difficulties, evil deeds (that have been) done and, cross over and indeed sin; cow, those who give, O lord.)
O lord, those who give a cow indeed cross over whatever difficulties and evil deeds they may have committed, and also sin. (13-77-9)
एकां च दशगुर्दद्याद्दश दद्याच्च गोशती। शतं सहस्रगुर्दद्यात्सर्वे तुल्यफला हि ते ॥१३-७७-१०॥
ekāṃ ca daśagur dadyād daśa dadyāc ca gośatī। śataṃ sahasragur dadyāt sarve tulyaphalā hi te ॥13-77-10॥
[एकां (ekāṃ) - one (unit); च (ca) - and; दशगुः (daśagur) - tenfold value; दद्यात् (dadyāt) - should give; दश (daśa) - ten; दद्याच्च (dadyāc ca) - should also give; गोशती (gośatī) - hundred cows value; शतं (śatam) - hundred; सहस्रगुः (sahasragur) - thousandfold value; दद्यात् (dadyāt) - should give; सर्वे (sarve) - all; तुल्यफलाः (tulyaphalāḥ) - having equal result; equal in fruit; हि (hi) - indeed; ते (te) - they;]
(And for one, he should give tenfold; for ten, he should also give the value of a hundred cows; for a hundred, he should give a thousandfold. All of them indeed have equal fruit; they.)
One should give ten times the value for one; for ten, he should also give the value of a hundred cows; for a hundred, he should give a thousand times as much. All these indeed yield equal results. (13-77-10)
अनाहिताग्निः शतगुरयज्वा च सहस्रगुः। समृद्धो यश्च कीनाशो नार्घ्यमर्हन्ति ते त्रयः ॥१३-७७-११॥
anāhitāgniḥ śatagurayajvā ca sahasraguḥ। samṛddho yaś ca kīnāśo nārghyam arhanti te trayaḥ॥13-77-11॥
[अनाहिताग्निः (anāhitāgniḥ) - who has not kindled (the sacred) fire; शतगुरयज्वा (śatagurayajvā) - performer of a hundred (sacrificial) fires; च (ca) - and; सहस्रगुः (sahasraguḥ) - performer of a thousand (sacrificial) fires; समृद्धः (samṛddhaḥ) - prosperous; यः (yaḥ) - who; च (ca) - and; कीनाशः (kīnāśaḥ) - ploughman; न (na) - not; अर्घ्यम् (arghyam) - the (ritual) offering of water; अर्हन्ति (arhanti) - deserve; ते (te) - those; त्रयः (trayaḥ) - three;]
(Who has not kindled the sacred fire, performer of a hundred (sacrificial) fires and a thousand (sacrificial) fires, or the prosperous ploughman—those three do not deserve the offering of water.)
One who has not kindled the sacred fire, the performer of a hundred or a thousand sacrifices, and a prosperous ploughman—these three do not deserve (to receive) the ritual offering of water. (13-77-11)
कपिलां ये प्रयच्छन्ति सवत्सां कांस्यदोहनाम्। सुव्रतां वस्त्रसंवीतामुभौ लोकौ जयन्ति ते ॥१३-७७-१२॥
kapilāṃ ye prayacchanti savatsāṃ kāṃsyadohanām। suvratāṃ vastrasaṃvītāmubhau lokau jayanti te॥13-77-12॥
[कपिलाम् (kapilām) - tawny-colored cow; ये (ye) - who; प्रयच्छन्ति (prayacchanti) - give; सवत्साम् (savatsām) - with calf; कांस्यदोहनाम् (kāṃsyadohanām) - with bronze milking vessel; सुव्रताम् (suvratām) - of good vows; वस्त्रसंवीताम् (vastrasaṃvītām) - clothed with cloth; उभौ (ubhau) - both; लोकौ (lokau) - worlds; जयन्ति (jayanti) - conquer; ते (te) - they;]
(Tawny-colored cow who give with calf, with bronze milking vessel, of good vows, clothed with cloth; both worlds conquer they.)
Those who give a tawny-colored cow, along with its calf, with a bronze milking vessel, of good vows and clothed with cloth, they conquer both worlds. (13-77-12)
युवानमिन्द्रियोपेतं शतेन सह यूथपम्। गवेन्द्रं ब्राह्मणेन्द्राय भूरिशृङ्गमलङ्कृतम् ॥१३-७७-१३॥
yuvānam indriyopetaṃ śatena saha yūthapam। gavendraṃ brāhmaṇendrāya bhūriśṛṅgam alaṅkṛtam॥13-77-13॥
[युवानम् (yuvānam) - young; (accusative singular neuter); इन्द्रिय-उपेतम् (indriya-upetam) - endowed with strength (senses); शतेन (śatena) - with a hundred (companions); सह (saha) - together with; यूथपम् (yūthapam) - leader of the herd; (accusative singular masculine); गवेन्द्रम् (gavendram) - king of bulls; (accusative singular masculine); ब्राह्मण-इन्द्राय (brāhmaṇa-indrāya) - to the chief among Brāhmaṇas; (dative singular masculine); भूरि-शृङ्गम् (bhūri-śṛṅgam) - _many-horned_; अलङ्कृतम् (alaṅkṛtam) - adorned;]
(A young, strength-endowed (bull), along with a hundred (companions), the leader of the herd, the king of bulls, to the chief among Brāhmaṇas, many-horned, adorned (was given).)
A young, powerful, and adorned king of bulls, having many horns and accompanied by a hundred herd-mates, was offered to the chief among Brāhmaṇas. (13-77-13)
वृषभं ये प्रयच्छन्ति श्रोत्रियाय परन्तप। ऐश्वर्यं तेऽभिजायन्ते जायमानाः पुनः पुनः ॥१३-७७-१४॥
vṛṣabhaṃ ye prayacchanti śrotriyāya parantapa। aiśvaryaṃ te'bhijāyante jāyamānāḥ punaḥ punaḥ ॥13-77-14॥
[वृषभं (vṛṣabham) - bull; ये (ye) - those who; प्रयच्छन्ति (prayacchanti) - give; श्रोत्रियाय (śrotriyāya) - to a learned Brahmin; परन्तप (parantapa) - O chastiser of foes; ऐश्वर्यं (aiśvaryam) - prosperity; ते (te) - they; अभिजायन्ते (abhijāyante) - are born; जायमानाः (jāyamānāḥ) - being born; पुनः पुनः (punaḥ punaḥ) - again and again;]
(Those who give a bull to a learned Brahmin, O chastiser of foes, prosperity they are born, being born again and again.)
O chastiser of foes, those who give a bull to a learned Brahmin are born again and again endowed with prosperity. (13-77-14)
नाकीर्तयित्वा गाः सुप्यान्नास्मृत्य पुनरुत्पतेत्। सायं प्रातर्नमस्येच्च गास्ततः पुष्टिमाप्नुयात् ॥१३-७७-१५॥
nākīrtayitvā gāḥ supyān nāsmṛtya punar utpatet। sāyaṃ prātar namasyec ca gās tataḥ puṣṭim āpnuyāt॥13-77-15॥
[नाकीर्तयित्वा (nākīrtayitvā) - not having recited; गाः (gāḥ) - the cows; सुप्यात् (supyāt) - from sleep; न (na) - not; आस्मृत्य (āsmṛtya) - having remembered; पुनः (punar) - again; उत्पतेत् (utpatet) - should rise; सायम् (sāyam) - in the evening; प्रातर् (prātar) - in the morning; नमस्येत् (namasyet) - should bow; च (ca) - and; गाः (gāḥ) - to the cows; ततः (tataḥ) - thereafter; पुष्टिम् (puṣṭim) - nourishment; आप्नुयात् (āpnuyāt) - one obtains;]
(Not having recited (their praise), the cows, from sleep, not having remembered, again should one rise; in the evening and in the morning one should bow also to the cows; thereafter, nourishment one obtains.)
Without reciting the praise of cows, one should not rise from sleep without remembering them; in the evening and morning, one should also bow to the cows; thereby, one gains nourishment. (13-77-15)
गवां मूत्रपुरीषस्य नोद्विजेत कदाचन। न चासां मांसमश्नीयाद्गवां व्युष्टिं तथाश्नुते ॥१३-७७-१६॥
gavāṃ mūtrapurīṣasya nodvijet kadācana. na cāsāṃ māṃsamaśnīyādgavāṃ vyuṣṭiṃ tathāśnute ॥13-77-16॥
[गवां (gavāṃ) - of cows; मूत्रपुरीषस्य (mūtrapurīṣasya) - of urine and dung; न (na) - not; उद्विजेत (udvijet) - one should be disturbed; कदाचन (kadācana) - at any time; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; असां (asāṃ) - of these (cows); मांसम् (māṃsam) - flesh; अश्नीयात् (aśnīyāt) - one should eat; गवां (gavāṃ) - of cows; व्युष्टिं (vyuṣṭim) - dead body; तथा (tathā) - likewise; अश्नुते (aśnute) - one should eat;]
(Of cows, of urine and dung, one should not be disturbed at any time. And not of these, cows, flesh one should eat, of cows, dead body likewise one should eat.)
One should never be disturbed by the urine and dung of cows. Nor should one eat the flesh of these cows, nor consume a dead cow. (13-77-16)
गाश्च सङ्कीर्तयेन्नित्यं नावमन्येत गास्तथा। अनिष्टं स्वप्नमालक्ष्य गां नरः सम्प्रकीर्तयेत् ॥१३-७७-१७॥
gāś ca saṅkīrtayen nityaṁ nāvamanyeta gās tathā। aniṣṭaṁ svapnam ālakṣya gāṁ naraḥ samprakīrtayet ॥13-77-17॥
[गाः (gāḥ) - cows; च (ca) - and; सङ्कीर्तयेत् (saṅkīrtayet) - should repeatedly praise; नित्यं (nityaṁ) - always; न (na) - not; अवमन्येत (avamanyeta) - should disrespect; गाः (gāḥ) - cows; तथा (tathā) - in that manner; अनिष्टं (aniṣṭam) - inauspicious; स्वप्नम् (svapnam) - dream; आलक्ष्य (ālakṣya) - having perceived; गाम् (gām) - cow; नरः (naraḥ) - man; सम्प्रकीर्तयेत् (samprakīrtayet) - should praise out loud;]
(Cows and should repeatedly praise always, not should disrespect cows in that manner. Inauspicious dream having perceived cow man should praise out loud.)
One should always repeatedly praise cows and never disrespect cows in any way. Having seen an inauspicious dream involving a cow, a man should proclaim praise for the cow. (13-77-17)
गोमयेन सदा स्नायाद्गोकरीषे च संविशेत्। श्लेष्ममूत्रपुरीषाणि प्रतिघातं च वर्जयेत् ॥१३-७७-१८॥
gomayena sadā snāyād gokarīṣe ca saṁviśet śleṣmamūtrapurīṣāṇi pratighātaṁ ca varjayet ॥13-77-18॥
[गोमयेन (gomayena) - with cow-dung; सदा (sadā) - always; स्नायात् (snāyāt) - should bathe; गोकरीषे (gokarīṣe) - on cow-dung ash; च (ca) - and; संविशेत् (saṁviśet) - should sleep (lie down); श्लेष्म (śleṣma) - phlegm; मूत्र (mūtra) - urine; पुरीषाणि (purīṣāṇi) - faeces; प्रतिघातं (pratighātam) - defilement; च (ca) - and; वर्जयेत् (varjayet) - should avoid;]
(With cow-dung always should bathe; on cow-dung ash and should sleep; phlegm, urine, faeces, defilement and should avoid.)
One should always bathe with cow-dung, sleep on cow-dung ash, and avoid phlegm, urine, faeces, and defilement. (13-77-18)
सार्द्रचर्मणि भुञ्जीत निरीक्षन्वारुणीं दिशम्। वाग्यतः सर्पिषा भूमौ गवां व्युष्टिं तथाश्नुते ॥१३-७७-१९॥
sārdra-carmaṇi bhuñjīta nirīkṣan vāruṇīṃ diśam. vāg-yataḥ sarpiṣā bhūmau gavāṃ vyuṣṭiṃ tathāśnute ॥13-77-19॥
[सार्द्रचर्मणि (sārdra-carmaṇi) - on a wet hide; भुञ्जीत (bhuñjīta) - he should eat; निरीक्षन् (nirīkṣan) - looking toward; वारुणीं (vāruṇīm) - toward the western; दिशम् (diśam) - direction; वाग्यतः (vāg-yataḥ) - restraining speech; सर्पिषा (sarpiṣā) - with ghee; भूमौ (bhūmau) - on the ground; गवां (gavām) - of cows; व्युष्टिं (vyuṣṭim) - abundance; तथा (tathā) - thus; अश्नुते (aśnute) - he attains;]
(On a wet hide, he should eat, looking toward the western direction, restraining speech, with ghee, on the ground, the abundance of cows thus he attains.)
By eating on a wet hide, facing west, in silence, with ghee, and seated on the ground, one thereby attains abundance of cows. (13-77-19)
घृतेन जुहुयादग्निं घृतेन स्वस्ति वाचयेत्। घृतं दद्याद्घृतं प्राशेद्गवां व्युष्टिं तथाश्नुते ॥१३-७७-२०॥
ghṛtena juhuyād agniṃ ghṛtena svasti vācayet। ghṛtaṃ dadyād ghṛtaṃ prāśed gavāṃ vyuṣṭiṃ tathāśnute॥13-77-20॥

(With clarified butter one should offer into the fire; with clarified butter one should proclaim well-being. One should give clarified butter, one should eat clarified butter; of cows, prosperity thus one attains.)
With clarified butter, one should perform fire offerings; with clarified butter, one should pronounce blessings. One should give butter, consume butter, and thus attains the prosperity of cows. (13-77-20)
गोमत्या विद्यया धेनुं तिलानामभिमन्त्र्य यः। रसरत्नमयीं दद्यान्न स शोचेत्कृताकृते ॥१३-७७-२१॥
gomatyā vidyayā dhenuṃ tilānām abhimantrya yaḥ। rasaratnamayīṃ dadyān na sa śocet kṛtākṛte॥13-77-21॥
[गोमत्या (gomatyā) - with gomati (auspicious or possessing a cow) (instrumental); विद्यया (vidyayā) - by knowledge (by the mantra or science) (instrumental); धेनुं (dhenuṃ) - cow (accusative singular); तिलानाम् (tilānām) - of sesame seeds (genitive plural); अभिमन्त्र्य (abhimantrya) - having consecrated (by mantra); यः (yaḥ) - who; रसरत्नमयीं (rasaratnamayīṃ) - made (filled) with rasa (nectar or juice) and gems (accusative singular feminine); दद्यात् (dadyāt) - should give; न (na) - not; स (sa) - he; शोचेत् (śocet) - should grieve; कृताकृते (kṛtākṛte) - for what has been done or not done (dual, for actions done and not done);]
(With gomati knowledge, having consecrated a cow of sesame seeds, who should give one filled with nectar and gems, he should not grieve for done or not-done.)
He who, with auspicious knowledge, consecrates a cow of sesame seeds and gives one filled with nectar and gems, should not grieve for what has been done or not done. (13-77-21)
गावो मामुपतिष्ठन्तु हेमशृङ्गाः पयोमुचः। सुरभ्यः सौरभेयाश्च सरितः सागरं यथा ॥१३-७७-२२॥
gāvo mām upatiṣṭhantu hemaśṛṅgāḥ payomucaḥ. surabhyaḥ saurabheyāś ca saritaḥ sāgaraṃ yathā ॥13-77-22॥
[गावः (gāvaḥ) - cows; माम् (mām) - me; उपतिष्ठन्तु (upatiṣṭhantu) - let them approach; हेमशृङ्गाः (hemaśṛṅgāḥ) - having golden horns; पयोमुचः (payomucaḥ) - milk-givers; सुरभ्यः (surabhyaḥ) - fragrant; सौरभेयाः (saurabheyāḥ) - descendants of Surabhi; च (ca) - and; सरितः (saritaḥ) - rivers; सागरम् (sāgaram) - the ocean; यथा (yathā) - just as;]
(Cows me let them approach, golden-horned, milk-givers, fragrant, descendants of Surabhi, and, rivers the ocean just as.)
Let the cows, golden-horned and milk-giving, fragrant and descended from Surabhi, approach me just as rivers approach the ocean. (13-77-22)
गावः पश्यन्तु मां नित्यं गावः पश्याम्यहं तदा। गावोऽस्माकं वयं तासां यतो गावस्ततो वयम् ॥१३-७७-२३॥
gāvaḥ paśyantu māṁ nityaṁ gāvaḥ paśyāmyahaṁ tadā। gāvo'smākaṁ vayaṁ tāsāṁ yato gāvas tato vayam ॥13-77-23॥
[गावः (gāvaḥ) - cows; पश्यन्तु (paśyantu) - let (them) see; माम् (mām) - me; नित्यं (nityaṁ) - always; गावः (gāvaḥ) - cows; पश्यामि (paśyāmi) - I see; अहम् (aham) - I; तदा (tadā) - then; गावः (gāvaḥ) - cows; अस्माकं (asmākaṁ) - our; वयम् (vayam) - we; तासां (tāsāṁ) - of them; यतः (yataḥ) - because; गावः (gāvaḥ) - cows; ततः (tataḥ) - from them; वयम् (vayam) - we;]
(Cows let (them) see me always; cows I see I then; cows our we of them because cows from them we.)
Let the cows always see me, and I too will see the cows then. The cows are ours, we are theirs; because wherever the cows are, there we are. (13-77-23)
एवं रात्रौ दिवा चैव समेषु विषमेषु च। महाभयेषु च नरः कीर्तयन्मुच्यते भयात् ॥१३-७७-२४॥
evaṁ rātrau divā caiva sameṣu viṣameṣu ca। mahābhayeṣu ca naraḥ kīrtayan mucyate bhayāt॥13-77-24॥
[एवं (evaṁ) - thus; रात्रौ (rātrau) - at night; दिवा (divā) - by day; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; समेषु (sameṣu) - in equal circumstances; विषमेषु (viṣameṣu) - in adverse circumstances; च (ca) - and; महाभयेषु (mahābhayeṣu) - in great dangers; च (ca) - and; नरः (naraḥ) - a man; कीर्तयन् (kīrtayan) - chanting (reciting, praising); मुच्यते (mucyate) - is released; भयात् (bhayāt) - from fear;]
(Thus at night by day and indeed in equal circumstances in adverse circumstances and in great dangers and a man chanting is released from fear.)
Thus, whether at night or by day, in equal or adverse circumstances, and even in great dangers, a man who chants (this) is freed from fear. (13-77-24)
