देशेषु रमणीयेषु गिरीणां निर्झरेषु च। स्रवन्तीनां च कुञ्जेषु पर्वतोपवनेषु च ॥१३-१३०-१॥
deśeṣu ramaṇīyeṣu girīṇāṃ nirjhareṣu ca। sravantīnāṃ ca kuñjeṣu parvatopavaneṣu ca॥13-130-1॥
[देशेषु (deśeṣu) - in the regions; रमणीयेषु (ramaṇīyeṣu) - in the beautiful (places); गिरीणां (girīṇāṃ) - of mountains; निर्झरेषु (nirjhareṣu) - in the waterfalls; च (ca) - and; स्रवन्तीनां (sravantīnāṃ) - of streams; च (ca) - and; कुञ्जेषु (kuñjeṣu) - in the bowers; पर्वतोपवनेषु (parvatopavaneṣu) - in the mountain-groves; च (ca) - and;]
(In regions, in beautiful (places), of mountains, in waterfalls and, of streams and, in bowers, in mountain-groves and.)
In the beautiful regions, at the waterfalls of the mountains, among the streams, in the bowers, and in the mountain groves. (13-130-1)
देशेषु च विचित्रेषु फलवत्सु समाहिताः। मूलवत्सु च देशेषु वसन्ति नियतव्रताः ॥१३-१३०-२॥
deśeṣu ca vicitreṣu phalavatsu samāhitāḥ। mūlavatsu ca deśeṣu vasanti niyatavratāḥ॥13-130-2॥
[देशेषु (deśeṣu) - in lands; च (ca) - and; विचित्रेषु (vicitreṣu) - in various; फलवत्सु (phalavatsu) - in fruitful; समाहिताः (samāhitāḥ) - concentrated; मूलवत्सु (mūlavatsu) - in root-endowed; च (ca) - and; देशेषु (deśeṣu) - in lands; वसन्ति (vasanti) - they dwell; नियतव्रताः (niyatavratāḥ) - those with fixed vows;]
(In lands and in various, in fruitful (places), concentrated; in root-endowed and in lands, those with fixed vows dwell.)
Those with fixed vows, concentrated, dwell in lands that are various and fruitful, and in lands with roots. (13-130-2)
तेषामपि विधिं पुण्यं श्रोतुमिच्छामि शङ्कर। वानप्रस्थेषु देवेश स्वशरीरोपजीविषु ॥१३-१३०-३॥
teṣām api vidhiṁ puṇyaṁ śrotum icchāmi śaṅkara. vānaprasthēṣu deveśa svaśarīra-upajīviṣu ॥13-130-3॥
[तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; अपि (api) - also; विधिं (vidhiṁ) - procedure; पुण्यम् (puṇyam) - virtuous; श्रोतुम् (śrotum) - to hear; इच्छामि (icchāmi) - I desire; शङ्कर (śaṅkara) - O Śaṅkara; वानप्रस्थेषु (vānaprasthēṣu) - among vānaprasthas (forest-dwellers); देवेश (deveśa) - O lord of the gods; स्वशरीर-उपजीविषु (svaśarīra-upajīviṣu) - those who sustain themselves by (what is produced by) their own body;]
(Of them also, the virtuous procedure I desire to hear, O Śaṅkara. Among vānaprasthas, O lord of the gods, who sustain themselves by (what is produced by) their own body.)
O Śaṅkara, I also wish to hear about the virtuous procedure of those vānaprasthas, O lord of the gods, who sustain themselves by their own labor. (13-130-3)
महेश्वर उवाच॥

The great lord said.
वानप्रस्थेषु यो धर्मस्तं मे शृणु समाहिता। श्रुत्वा चैकमना देवि धर्मबुद्धिपरा भव ॥१३-१३०-४॥
vānaprastheṣu yo dharmas taṃ me śṛṇu samāhitā. śrutvā ca ekamanā devi dharmabuddhiparā bhava ॥13-130-4॥
[वानप्रस्थेषु (vānaprastheṣu) - among forest-dwellers; यः (yaḥ) - which; धर्मः (dharmaḥ) - duty; तम् (tam) - that; मे (me) - to me; शृणु (śṛṇu) - hear; समाहिता (samāhitā) - attentive; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; च (ca) - and; एकमना (ekamanā) - with one mind; देवि (devi) - O goddess; धर्मबुद्धिपरा (dharmabuddhiparā) - absorbed in understanding of dharma; भव (bhava) - be;]
(Among forest-dwellers, which duty—that to me hear, attentive. Having heard and with one mind, O goddess, absorbed in understanding of dharma be.)
Hear from me attentively the duty among forest-dwellers. Having heard, O goddess, be intent on understanding dharma with one-pointed mind. (13-130-4)
संसिद्धैर्नियतैः सद्भिर्वनवासमुपागतैः। वानप्रस्थैरिदं कर्म कर्तव्यं शृणु यादृशम् ॥१३-१३०-५॥
saṁsiddhairniyataiḥ sadbhirvanavāsamupāgataiḥ। vānaprasthairidaṁ karma kartavyaṁ śṛṇu yādṛśam ॥13-130-5॥
[संसिद्धैः (saṁsiddhaiḥ) - perfected ones; accomplished ones; नियतैः (niyataiḥ) - self-controlled ones; सद्भिः (sadbhih) - good ones; virtuous beings; वनवासम् (vanavāsam) - forest-dwelling; dwelling in the forest; उपागतैः (upāgataiḥ) - who have arrived (at); who have come (to); वानप्रस्थैः (vānaprasthaiḥ) - by forest-dwellers; by those in the vānaprastha stage; इदम् (idam) - this; कर्म (karma) - action; act; duty; कर्तव्यम् (kartavyam) - must be done; ought to be done; शृणु (śṛṇu) - listen; यादृशम् (yādṛśam) - of what kind; of such sort;]
(By the perfected, self-controlled, virtuous, who have come to dwell in the forest, by forest-dwellers, this action must be done; listen to what kind (it is).)
Listen to the kind of action that must be performed by perfected, self-controlled, virtuous forest-dwellers who have come to live in the forest. (13-130-5)
त्रिकालमभिषेकार्थः पितृदेवार्चनं क्रिया। अग्निहोत्रपरिस्पन्द इष्टिहोमविधिस्तथा ॥१३-१३०-६॥
trikālamabhiṣekārthaḥ pitṛdevārcanaṃ kriyā। agnihotraparispanda iṣṭihomavidhistathā ॥13-130-6॥
[त्रिकालम् (trikālam) - three times (of day); अभिषेकार्थः (abhiṣekārthaḥ) - for the purpose of ablution; पितृ-देव-अर्चनम् (pitṛ-deva-arcanaṃ) - worship of ancestors and gods; क्रिया (kriyā) - performance (action); अग्निहोत्र-परिस्पन्द (agnihotra-parispanda) - motion (activity) of agnihotra (fire-sacrifice); इष्टि-होम-विधिः (iṣṭi-homa-vidhiḥ) - procedure of iṣṭi and homa (sacrificial rites); तथा (tathā) - so also;]
(Three times (of day), for the purpose of ablution, worship of ancestors and gods, performance (action); motion of agnihotra, procedure of iṣṭi and homa, so also.)
Actions such as thrice-daily ablutions, worship of ancestors and gods, performance of the agnihotra ritual, as well as the procedures for iṣṭi and homa sacrifices, (are prescribed). (13-130-6)
नीवारग्रहणं चैव फलमूलनिषेवणम्। इङ्गुदैरण्डतैलानां स्नेहार्थं च निषेवणम् ॥१३-१३०-७॥
nīvāragrahaṇaṃ caiva phalamūlaniṣevaṇam। iṅgudairaṇḍatailānāṃ snehārthaṃ ca niṣevaṇam॥13-130-7॥

योगचर्याकृतैः सिद्धैः कामक्रोधविवर्जनम्। वीरशय्यामुपासद्भिर्वीरस्थानोपसेविभिः ॥१३-१३०-८॥
yogacaryā-kṛtaiḥ siddhaiḥ kāma-krodha-vivarjanam। vīra-śayyām-upāsadbhiḥ vīra-sthāna-upasevibhiḥ ॥13-130-8॥

The abandonment of desire and anger is by the perfected yogis, by those who reside on the warrior's bed, and by those who attend to the warrior's place. (13-130-8)
युक्तैर्योगवहैः सद्भिर्ग्रीष्मे पञ्चतपैस्तथा। मण्डूकयोगनियतैर्यथान्यायनिषेविभिः ॥१३-१३०-९॥
yuktaiḥ yogavahaiḥ sadbhiḥ grīṣme pañcatapaiḥ tathā। maṇḍūka-yoga-niyataiḥ yathā-nyāya-niṣevibhiḥ ॥13-130-9॥
[युक्तैः (yuktaiḥ) - joined; endowed with; prepared; (instrumental plural); योगवहैः (yogavahaiḥ) - those carrying out practices; bringing about union; (instrumental plural); सद्भिः (sadbhiḥ) - by virtuous ones; by good people; (instrumental plural); ग्रीष्मे (grīṣme) - in summer; (locative singular); पञ्चतपैः (pañcatapaiḥ) - by the five-fires ascetics; practitioners of the five-fire austerity; (instrumental plural); तथा (tathā) - likewise; in that manner; मण्डूकयोगनियतैः (maṇḍūka-yoga-niyataiḥ) - by those regulated by frog-yoga; by those disciplined in frog-posture; (instrumental plural; compound: maṇḍūka-yoga-niyataiḥ); यथान्यायनिषेविभिः (yathā-nyāya-niṣevibhiḥ) - by those practicing according to proper rule; (instrumental plural; compound: yathā-nyāya-niṣevibhiḥ);]
(By those joined with practice, by good people, in summer, by the five-fire ascetics likewise, by those regulated in frog-yoga, by those practicing according to proper rule.)
By people devoted to yoga practices, by the virtuous, in the summer, by five-fire ascetics likewise, and by those disciplined in frog-posture who practice according to proper rules. (13-130-9)
वीरासनगतैर्नित्यं स्थण्डिले शयनैस्तथा। शीतयोगोऽग्नियोगश्च चर्तव्यो धर्मबुद्धिभिः ॥१३-१३०-१०॥
vīrāsanagatair nityaṃ sthaṇḍile śayanais tathā। śītayogo'gniyogaś ca cartavyo dharmabuddhibhiḥ ॥13-130-10॥
[वीरासनगतैः (vīrāsanagataiḥ) - with those seated in the heroic posture; नित्यं (nityaṃ) - always; स्थण्डिले (sthaṇḍile) - on the floor; शयनैः (śayanaiḥ) - with beds; तथा (tathā) - likewise; शीतयोगः (śītayogaḥ) - cold discipline; अग्नियोगः (agnayogaḥ) - fire discipline; च (ca) - and; चर्तव्यः (cartavyaḥ) - ought to be practiced; धर्मबुद्धिभिः (dharmabuddhibhiḥ) - by those possessing righteousness; ॥१३-१३०-१०॥ (13-130-10) - ;]
(With those seated in the heroic posture, always, on the floor, with beds likewise; cold discipline and fire discipline ought to be practiced by those possessing righteousness.)
Those with a mind intent on righteousness should always practice (austerities) such as sitting in the vīrāsana posture on the floor or on beds; both cold and fire disciplines must be undertaken. (13-130-10)
अब्भक्षैर्वायुभक्षैश्च शैवालोत्तरभोजनैः। अश्मकुट्टैस्तथा दान्तैः सम्प्रक्षालैस्तथापरैः ॥१३-१३०-११॥
abbhakṣair vāyubhakṣaiś ca śaivālottarabhojanaiḥ। aśmakuṭṭais tathā dāntaiḥ samprakṣālais tathā paraiḥ॥13-130-11॥
[अब्भक्षैः (abbhakṣaiḥ) - by those eating only water; वायुभक्षैः (vāyubhakṣaiḥ) - by those subsisting on air; च (ca) - and; शैवालोत्तरभोजनैः (śaivālottarabhojanaiḥ) - by those whose food is only moss; अश्मकुट्टैः (aśmakuṭṭaiḥ) - by those eating by grinding with stones; तथा (tathā) - likewise; दान्तैः (dāntaiḥ) - by the self-controlled; सम्प्रक्षालैः (samprakṣālaiḥ) - by those who thoroughly clean (food); तथा (tathā) - and thus; अपरैः (aparaiḥ) - by others;]
(By those eating only water, by those subsisting on air and by those whose food is only moss, by those who eat by grinding with stones, likewise by the self-controlled, by those who thoroughly clean (food), and similarly by others.)
By those who subsist only on water, on air, and on moss, and by those who eat by grinding with stones, as well as by the self-controlled, by those who thoroughly cleanse their food, and by others as well. (13-130-11)
चीरवल्कलसंवीतैर्मृगचर्मनिवासिभिः। कार्या यात्रा यथाकालं यथाधर्मं यथाविधि ॥१३-१३०-१२॥
cīravalkalasaṃvītair mṛgacarmanivāsibhiḥ। kāryā yātrā yathākālaṃ yathādharmaṃ yathāvidhi ॥13-130-12॥
[चीरवल्कलसंवीतैः (cīravalkalasaṃvītaiḥ) - clad in bark garments and tree bark; मृगचर्मनिवासिभिः (mṛgacarmanivāsibhiḥ) - dwelling with deer skins; कार्या (kāryā) - should be performed; यात्रा (yātrā) - the undertaking (rite/journey); यथाकालं (yathākālaṃ) - according to (proper) time; यथाधर्मं (yathādharmaṃ) - according to dharma; यथाविधि (yathāvidhi) - according to rule;]
(By those clad in bark garments and tree bark, dwelling with deer skins, the undertaking should be performed according to (proper) time, according to dharma, according to rule.)
The undertaking should be performed, as prescribed, by those clad in bark garments and deer skins, in accordance with time, dharma, and prescribed rules. (13-130-12)
वननित्यैर्वनचरैर्वनपैर्वनगोचरैः। वनं गुरुमिवासाद्य वस्तव्यं वनजीविभिः ॥१३-१३०-१३॥
vananityair vanacarair vanapair vanagocaraiḥ. vanaṃ gurum ivāsādya vastavyaṃ vanajīvibhiḥ ॥13-130-13॥
[वननित्यैः (vananityaiḥ) - by those always in the forest; वनचरैः (vanacaraiḥ) - by forest-dwellers; वनपैः (vanapaiḥ) - by inhabitants of the forest; वनगोचरैः (vanagocaraiḥ) - by those moving among woods; वनम् (vanam) - forest; गुरुम् (gurum) - teacher; इव (iva) - like; आसाद्य (āsādya) - having approached; वस्तव्यम् (vastavyam) - should be dwelled; वनजीविभिः (vanajīvibhiḥ) - by forest-livers;]
(By those always in the forest, by forest-dwellers, by inhabitants of the forest, by those moving among woods, having approached the forest like (one approaches) a teacher, it should be dwelled in by forest-livers.)
Those who always live in the forest, forest-dwellers, inhabitants of the woods, and those who move among the forests, having approached the forest as one would a teacher, should dwell in it. (13-130-13)
तेषां होमक्रिया धर्मः पञ्चयज्ञनिषेवणम्। नागपञ्चमयज्ञस्य वेदोक्तस्यानुपालनम् ॥१३-१३०-१४॥
teṣāṃ homakriyā dharmaḥ pañcayajñaniṣevaṇam। nāgapañcamayajñasya vedoktasyānupālanam ॥13-130-14॥
[तेषां (teṣāṃ) - of them; होमक्रिया (homakriyā) - the ritual of oblations; धर्मः (dharmaḥ) - duty; पञ्चयज्ञनिषेवणम् (pañcayajñaniṣevaṇam) - the observance of the five sacrifices; नागपञ्चमयज्ञस्य (nāgapañcamayajñasya) - of the nāga-pañcama sacrifice; वेदोक्तस्य (vedoktasya) - prescribed in the Vedas; अनुपालनम् (anupālanam) - observance;]
(Of them, the ritual of oblations is duty, the observance of the five sacrifices; the observance of the nāga-pañcama sacrifice prescribed in the Vedas.)
For them, the ritual of oblation is a duty, along with the performance of the five yajñas and observance of the nāga-pañcama sacrifice as enjoined in the Vedas. (13-130-14)
अष्टमीयज्ञपरता चातुर्मास्यनिषेवणम्। पौर्णमास्यां तु यो यज्ञो नित्ययज्ञस्तथैव च ॥१३-१३०-१५॥
aṣṭamī-yajña-paratā cāturmāsya-niṣevaṇam। paurṇamāsyāṃ tu yaḥ yajñaḥ nitya-yajñaḥ tathaiva ca॥13-130-15॥
[अष्टमी (aṣṭamī) - eighth lunar day; (of the lunar fortnight); यज्ञ (yajña) - sacrifice; परता (paratā) - devotion towards; inclination towards; preference for; चातुर्मास्य (cāturmāsya) - four-monthly (connected with four months); निषेवणम् (niṣevaṇam) - performance; observance; पौर्णमास्याम् (paurṇamāsyām) - on the full-moon day; तु (tu) - but; however; यः (yaḥ) - which; that; यज्ञः (yajñaḥ) - sacrifice; नित्य (nitya) - constant; daily; perpetual; यज्ञः (yajñaḥ) - sacrifice; तथैव (tathaiva) - in the same way; likewise; च (ca) - and;]
(Devotion towards eighth-day sacrifices, observance of the four-monthly (rites). On the full-moon day, however, that sacrifice is likewise a perpetual sacrifice.)
Devotion towards sacrifices on the eighth lunar day and performance of the four-monthly observances; but the sacrifice on the full-moon day is considered a perpetual (nitya) sacrifice in the same way. (13-130-15)
विमुक्ता दारसंयोगैर्विमुक्ताः सर्वसङ्करैः। विमुक्ताः सर्वपापैश्च चरन्ति मुनयो वने ॥१३-१३०-१६॥
vimuktā dāra-saṃyogair vimuktāḥ sarva-saṅkaraiḥ। vimuktāḥ sarva-pāpaiś ca caranti munayo vane ॥13-130-16॥
[विमुक्ता (vimuktāḥ) - liberated; दारसंयोगैः (dāra-saṃyogaiḥ) - from connections with (one’s) wife; विमुक्ताः (vimuktāḥ) - liberated; सर्वसङ्करैः (sarva-saṅkaraiḥ) - from all mixtures; विमुक्ताः (vimuktāḥ) - liberated; सर्वपापैः (sarva-pāpaiḥ) - from all sins; च (ca) - and; चरन्ति (caranti) - wander; मुनयः (munayaḥ) - the sages; वने (vane) - in the forest;]
(Liberated from connections with (their) wives, liberated from all mixtures, liberated from all sins and, the sages wander in the forest.)
Freed from union with wives, from all mixtures, and from all sins, the sages wander in the forest. (13-130-16)
स्रुग्भाण्डपरमा नित्यं त्रेताग्निशरणाः सदा। सन्तः सत्पथनित्या ये ते यान्ति परमां गतिम् ॥१३-१३०-१७॥
srugbhāṇḍaparamā nityaṃ tretāgniśaraṇāḥ sadā। santaḥ satpathanityā ye te yānti paramāṃ gatim ॥13-130-17॥
[स्रुग्भाण्डपरमा (srug-bhāṇḍa-paramā) - those whose highest concern is the sacrificial ladle and vessel; नित्यं (nityaṃ) - always; त्रेताग्निशरणाः (tretā-agni-śaraṇāḥ) - those who take refuge in the three sacrificial fires; सदा (sadā) - at all times; सन्तः (santaḥ) - good men; सत्पथनित्या (sat-patha-nityā) - always on the righteous path; ये (ye) - who; ते (te) - they; यान्ति (yānti) - go; परमां (paramām) - highest; गतिम् (gatim) - state;]
(Those whose highest concern is the sacrificial ladle and vessel, always, those who take refuge in the three sacrificial fires, at all times, good men, always on the righteous path, who, they go to the highest state.)
Those whose highest goal is the sacrificial ladle and vessel, who always take refuge in the three sacrificial fires, who are ever devoted to the righteous path—such virtuous ones attain the supreme state. (13-130-17)
ब्रह्मलोकं महापुण्यं सोमलोकं च शाश्वतम्। गच्छन्ति मुनयः सिद्धा ऋषिधर्मव्यपाश्रयात् ॥१३-१३०-१८॥
brahmalokaṁ mahāpuṇyaṁ somalokaṁ ca śāśvatam। gacchanti munayaḥ siddhā ṛṣidharmavyapāśrayāt ॥13-130-18॥
[ब्रह्मलोकं (brahmalokaṁ) - Brahma-world; महापुण्यं (mahāpuṇyaṁ) - greatly meritorious; सोमलोकं (somalokaṁ) - Soma-world; च (ca) - and; शाश्वतम् (śāśvatam) - eternal; गच्छन्ति (gacchanti) - they go; मुनयः (munayaḥ) - sages; सिद्धा (siddhāḥ) - perfected ones; ऋषिधर्मव्यपाश्रयात् (ṛṣidharma-vyapāśrayāt) - due to reliance upon the dharma of sages;]
(Brahma-world, greatly meritorious, Soma-world and eternal; the sages, perfected ones, they go, due to reliance upon the dharma of sages.)
The perfected sages reach the greatly meritorious Brahma-world and the eternal Soma-world by relying upon the dharma of sages. (13-130-18)
एष धर्मो मया देवि वानप्रस्थाश्रितः शुभः। विस्तरेणार्थसम्पन्नो यथास्थूलमुदाहृतः ॥१३-१३०-१९॥
eṣa dharmo mayā devi vānaprasthāśritaḥ śubhaḥ। vistareṇārthasampanno yathāsthūlamudāhṛtaḥ ॥13-130-19॥
[एष (eṣa) - this; धर्मः (dharmaḥ) - duty; मया (mayā) - by me; देवि (devi) - O goddess; वानप्रस्थाश्रितः (vānaprasthāśritaḥ) - having adopted the hermit stage (vānaprastha); शुभः (śubhaḥ) - auspicious; विस्तरेण (vistareṇa) - in detail; अर्थसम्पन्नः (arthasampannaḥ) - endowed with meaning; यथा (yathā) - as; स्थूलम् (sthūlam) - summary; उदाहृतः (udāhṛtaḥ) - has been stated;]
(This duty, by me, O goddess, having adopted the vānaprastha stage, auspicious, in detail, endowed with meaning, as in summary, has been stated.)
O goddess, this auspicious duty pertaining to the vānaprastha stage has been stated by me in summary as well as in detail, endowed with meaning. (13-130-19)

भगवन्देवदेवेश सर्वभूतनमस्कृत। यो धर्मो मुनिसङ्घस्य सिद्धिवादेषु तं वद ॥१३-१३०-२०॥

O blessed Lord, lord of the lords of the gods, worshipped by all beings, tell me that righteousness of the assembly of sages which prevails in discussions about accomplishment. (13-130-20)
सिद्धिवादेषु संसिद्धास्तथा वननिवासिनः। स्वैरिणो दारसंयुक्तास्तेषां धर्मः कथं स्मृतः ॥१३-१३०-२१॥
siddhivādeṣu saṃsiddhās tathā vananivāsinaḥ। svairiṇo dārasaṃyuktās teṣāṃ dharmaḥ kathaṃ smṛtaḥ॥13-130-21॥

Among those established in the doctrines of success, and likewise among forest dwellers—those who live independently and with their wives—how is their duty described? (13-130-21)

svairiṇas tāpasā devi sarve dāravihāriṇaḥ। teṣāṃ mauṇḍyaṃ kaṣāyaś ca vāsa-rātriś ca kāraṇam॥13-130-22॥
[स्वैरिणः (svairiṇaḥ) - independent; self-willed; free-acting; (as ascetics); तापसाः (tāpasāḥ) - ascetics; those practicing austerity; देवि (devi) - O goddess; सर्वे (sarve) - all; दारविहारिणः (dāra-vihāriṇaḥ) - living with wives; having relations with women; तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; मौण्ड्यम् (mauṇḍyam) - shaven-headedness; कषायः (kaṣāyaḥ) - ochre robe; reddish garment; च (ca) - and; वासरात्रिः (vāsa-rātriḥ) - days and nights; च (ca) - and; कारणम् (kāraṇam) - the reason; the cause;]
(Independent are the ascetics, O goddess, all living with wives. For them, shaven-headedness and ochre robe and days and nights are the reason.)
O goddess, the ascetics are independent—indeed, all of them live with wives. For them, being shaven-headed, wearing ochre robes, and both day and night, are merely causes (for such behavior). (13-130-22)
त्रिकालमभिषेकश्च होत्रं त्वृषिकृतं महत्। समाधिः सत्पथस्थानं यथोदितनिषेवणम् ॥१३-१३०-२३॥
trikālam abhiṣekaś ca hotraṃ tu ṛṣikṛtaṃ mahat | samādhiḥ satpathasthānaṃ yathoditaniṣevaṇam ॥13-130-23॥

ये च ते पूर्वकथिता धर्मा वननिवासिनाम्। यदि सेवन्ति धर्मांस्तानाप्नुवन्ति तपःफलम् ॥१३-१३०-२४॥

ये च दम्पतिधर्माणः स्वदारनियतेन्द्रियाः। चरन्ति विधिदृष्टं तदृतुकालाभिगामिनः ॥१३-१३०-२५॥
ye ca dampatidharmāṇaḥ svadāraniyatendriyāḥ। caranti vidhidṛṣṭaṃ tadṛtukālābhigāminaḥ॥13-130-25॥
[ये (ye) (ye) - who; (those) which; (those) who; च (ca) (ca) - and; दम्पतिधर्माणः (dampatidharmāṇaḥ) (dampatidharmāṇaḥ) - practising the duties of a married couple; स्वदारे (svadāre) (svadāra) - toward (one's) own wife; नियत-इन्द्रियाः (niyata-indriyāḥ) (niyata-indriyāḥ) - having controlled senses; चरन्ति (caranti) (caranti) - act; conduct; perform; विधिदृष्टम् (vidhidṛṣṭam) (vidhidṛṣṭam) - as prescribed by the rules; तद्-ऋतुकाल-अभिगामिनः (tad-ṛtukāla-abhigāminaḥ) (tad-ṛtukāla-abhigāminaḥ) - those approaching (wife) at that season (proper time);]
(Who and practising the duties of a married couple, toward own wife, having controlled senses, act as prescribed by the rules, those approaching (wife) at that proper season.)
And those who observe duties of married couples, approach only their own wives, control their senses, and act according to prescribed rules—approaching at the proper season—are such as described. (13-130-25)
तेषामृषिकृतो धर्मो धर्मिणामुपपद्यते। न कामकारात्कामोऽन्यः संसेव्यो धर्मदर्शिभिः ॥१३-१३०-२६॥
teṣām ṛṣikṛto dharmo dharmiṇām upapadyate। na kāmakārāt kāmo'nyaḥ saṃsevyo dharmadarśibhiḥ॥13-130-26॥
[तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; ऋषि-कृतः (ṛṣi-kṛtaḥ) - made by the sages; धर्मः (dharmaḥ) - dharma; law; righteousness; धर्मिणाम् (dharmiṇām) - of the righteous; उपपद्यते (upapadyate) - is appropriate; applies; न (na) - not; कामकारात् (kāmakārāt) - from the act of desire; कामः (kāmaḥ) - desire; अन्यः (anyaḥ) - other; संसेव्यः (saṃsevyaḥ) - to be pursued; to be followed; धर्मदर्शिभिः (dharmadarśibhiḥ) - by those who see dharma; by the wise in dharma;]
(Of them, the dharma made by sages applies to the righteous; not from the act of desire is any other desire to be pursued by those who see dharma.)
The dharma established by sages is proper for the righteous; those who understand dharma should not pursue any desire arising from mere desire. (13-130-26)
सर्वभूतेषु यः सम्यग्ददात्यभयदक्षिणाम्। हिंसारोषविमुक्तात्मा स वै धर्मेण युज्यते ॥१३-१30-२७॥
sarvabhūteṣu yaḥ samyagdadātyabhayadakṣiṇām। hinsāroṣavimuktātmā sa vai dharmeṇa yujyate॥13-130-27॥

(In all beings who rightly gives the gift of fearlessness, one whose self is freed from violence and anger, he indeed is united with dharma.)

सर्वभूतानुकम्पी यः सर्वभूतार्जवव्रतः। सर्वभूतात्मभूतश्च स वै धर्मेण युज्यते ॥१३-१३०-२८॥
sarvabhūtānukampī yaḥ sarvabhūtārjavavrataḥ। sarvabhūtātmabhūtaśca sa vai dharmeṇa yujyate ॥13-130-28॥

(Compassionate towards all beings, who, devoted to honesty towards all beings, regarding himself as the soul of all beings and, he indeed by righteousness is united.)
He who is compassionate to all beings, who is devoted to honesty towards all beings, and who regards himself as the self of all beings—indeed, he is united with righteousness. (13-130-28)
सर्ववेदेषु वा स्नानं सर्वभूतेषु चार्जवम्। उभे एते समे स्यातामार्जवं वा विशिष्यते ॥१३-१३०-२९॥
sarvavedeṣu vā snānaṃ sarvabhūteṣu cārjavam। ubhe ete same syātām ārjavaṃ vā viśiṣyate॥13-130-29॥

आर्जवं धर्म इत्याहुरधर्मो जिह्म उच्यते। आर्जवेनेह संयुक्तो नरो धर्मेण युज्यते ॥१३-१३०-३०॥
ārjavaṃ dharma ity āhur adharmo jihma ucyate। ārjavena iha saṃyukto naro dharmeṇa yujyate ॥13-130-30॥
[आर्जवं (ārjavam) - straightforwardness; धर्मः (dharmaḥ) - virtue; इति (iti) - thus; आहुः (āhuḥ) - they say; अधर्मः (adharmaḥ) - vice; जिह्मः (jihmaḥ) - crookedness; उच्यते (ucyate) - is called; आर्जवेन (ārjavena) - by straightforwardness; इह (iha) - here; संयुक्तः (saṃyuktaḥ) - endowed; नरः (naraḥ) - man; धर्मेण (dharmeṇa) - with virtue; युज्यते (yujyate) - is united;]

ārjavo bhuvane nityaṃ vasaty amarasaṃnidhau। tasmād ārjavanityaḥ syād ya icched dharmam ātmanaḥ ॥13-130-31॥

vyapetatandro dharmātmā śakyā satpatham āśritaḥ| cāritraparamo buddho brahmabhūyāya kalpate ॥13-130-33॥

शष्पं मृगमुखोत्सृष्टं यो मृगैः सह सेवते। दीक्षितो वै मुदा युक्तः स गच्छत्यमरावतीम् ॥१३-१३०-४०॥
śaṣpaṃ mṛgamukhotsṛṣṭaṃ yo mṛgaiḥ saha sevate. dīkṣito vai mudā yuktaḥ sa gacchaty amarāvatīm ॥13-130-40॥
[शष्पं (śaṣpam) - tender grass; मृगमुखोत्सृष्टं (mṛga-mukha-utsṛṣṭam) - left by the mouth of the deer; यः (yaḥ) - who; मृगैः (mṛgaiḥ) - with deer; सह (saha) - together; सेवते (sevate) - enjoys; partakes; दीक्षितः (dīkṣitaḥ) - consecrated; initiated; वै (vai) - indeed; मुदा (mudā) - with joy; युक्तः (yuktaḥ) - endowed; engaged; सः (saḥ) - he; गच्छति (gacchati) - goes; अमरावतीम् (amarāvatīm) - to Amaravati (the city of the immortals);]
(Who enjoys with deer, the tender grass left by the mouth of the deer, being consecrated, indeed with joy endowed, he goes to Amaravati.)
He who, being consecrated and rejoicing, partakes together with the deer of the tender grass left by their mouths, goes to Amaravati (the city of the immortals). (13-130-40)
शैवालं शीर्णपर्णं वा तद्व्रतो यो निषेवते। शीतयोगवहो नित्यं स गच्छेत्परमां गतिम् ॥१३-१३०-४१॥
śaivālaṃ śīrṇaparṇaṃ vā tadvvrato yo niṣevate। śītayogavaho nityaṃ sa gacchet paramāṃ gatim ॥13-130-41॥
[शैवालं (śaivālam) - water-plant; seaweed; शीर्णपर्णं (śīrṇaparṇam) - dried leaf; वा (vā) - or; तद्व्रतः (tad-vrataḥ) - one observing that vow; यः (yaḥ) - who; निषेवते (niṣevate) - practises; शीतयोगवहः (śīta-yoga-vahaḥ) - bringing union with cold; नित्यं (nityam) - constantly; सः (saḥ) - he; गच्छेत् (gacchet) - may go; परमां (paramām) - supreme; गतिम् (gatim) - attainment;]
(Water-plant, dried leaf or, one observing that vow who practises, bringing the union with cold, constantly, he may go (to) the supreme attainment.)
Whoever practises the vow of subsisting only on water-plants or dried leaves, constantly cultivating union with cold, he attains the highest goal. (13-130-41)
वायुभक्षोऽम्बुभक्षो वा फलमूलाशनोऽपि वा। यक्षेष्वैश्वर्यमाधाय मोदतेऽप्सरसां गणैः ॥१३-१३०-४२॥
vāyubhakṣo’mbubhakṣo vā phalamūlāśano’pi vā। yakṣeṣvaiśvaryamādhāya modate’psarasāṃ gaṇaiḥ ॥13-130-42॥
[वायुभक्षः (vāyubhakṣaḥ) - wind-eater; अम्बुभक्षः (ambubhakṣaḥ) - water-eater; वा (vā) - or; फलमूलाशनः (phalamūlāśanaḥ) - eater of fruits and roots; अपि (api) - also; वा (vā) - or; यक्षेषु (yakṣeṣu) - among Yakṣas; ऐश्वर्यम् (aiśvaryam) - sovereignty; आधाय (ādhāya) - having acquired; मोदते (modate) - rejoices; अप्सरसाम् (apsarasām) - of the Apsarases (celestial nymphs); गणैः (gaṇaiḥ) - with companies;]
(Wind-eater, water-eater or, eater of fruits and roots also or, among Yakṣas sovereignty having acquired rejoices with companies of the Apsarases.)
Whether living on air, on water, or even on fruits and roots, he enjoys sovereignty among the Yakṣas, delighting in the company of the Apsarases. (13-130-42)
अग्नियोगवहो ग्रीष्मे विधिदृष्टेन कर्मणा। चीर्त्वा द्वादश वर्षाणि राजा भवति पार्थिवः ॥१३-१३०-४३॥
agniyogavaḥo grīṣme vidhidṛṣṭena karmaṇā। cīrtvā dvādaśa varṣāṇi rājā bhavati pārthivaḥ ॥13-130-43॥
[अग्नियोगवहः (agniyogavahaḥ) - bearing the connection to fire; ग्रीष्मे (grīṣme) - in summer; विधिदृष्टेन (vidhidṛṣṭena) - prescribed by injunction; कर्मणा (karmaṇā) - with ritual; चीर्त्वा (cīrtvā) - having performed; द्वादश (dvādaśa) - twelve; वर्षाणि (varṣāṇi) - years; राजा (rājā) - king; भवति (bhavati) - becomes; पार्थिवः (pārthivaḥ) - ruler;]
(Bearing the connection to fire in summer, with ritual prescribed by injunction, having performed (this) twelve years, king becomes ruler.)
He who bears the connection to fire in summer and performs the prescribed ritual for twelve years becomes a king, a ruler. (13-130-43)
आहारनियमं कृत्वा मुनिर्द्वादशवार्षिकम्। मरुं संसाध्य यत्नेन राजा भवति पार्थिवः ॥१३-१३०-४४॥
āhāra-niyamaṁ kṛtvā muniḥ dvādaśa-vārṣikam। maruṁ saṁsādhya yatnena rājā bhavati pārthivaḥ ॥13-130-44॥
[आहारनियमम् (āhāra-niyamam) - food regulation; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having done; मुनिः (muniḥ) - sage; द्वादशवार्षिकम् (dvādaśa-vārṣikam) - of twelve years; मरुम् (marum) - desert; संसाध्य (saṁsādhya) - having accomplished; यत्नेन (yatnena) - by effort; राजा (rājā) - king; भवति (bhavati) - becomes; पार्थिवः (pārthivaḥ) - earthly (lord); king;]
(Having undertaken food regulation, the sage for twelve years, having accomplished the desert by effort, king becomes ruler.)
Having observed food regulation, the sage for twelve years, having accomplished austerities in the desert by effort, becomes an earthly king. (13-130-44)
स्थण्डिले शुद्धमाकाशं परिगृह्य समन्ततः। प्रविश्य च मुदा युक्तो दीक्षां द्वादशवार्षिकीम् ॥१३-१३०-४५॥
sthaṇḍile śuddham-ākāśam parigṛhya samantataḥ। praviśya ca mudā yukto dīkṣāṃ dvādaśa-vārṣikīm॥13-130-45॥
[स्थण्डिले (sthaṇḍile) - on the ground; शुद्धम् (śuddham) - pure; आकाशम् (ākāśam) - ether; परिगृह्य (parigṛhya) - having surrounded; समन्ततः (samantataḥ) - on all sides; प्रविश्य (praviśya) - having entered; च (ca) - and; मुदा (mudā) - with joy; युक्तः (yuktaḥ) - endowed (he was); दीक्षाम् (dīkṣām) - initiation; द्वादशवार्षिकीम् (dvādaśa-vārṣikīm) - twelve years (long);]
(On the ground, pure ether having surrounded on all sides, having entered and with joy endowed, initiation of twelve years (he underwent).)
He, having surrounded himself with pure ether on all sides on the ground, entered therein, and, endowed with joy, undertook the twelve-year initiation. (13-130-45)
स्थण्डिलस्य फलान्याहुर्यानानि शयनानि च। गृहाणि च महार्हाणि चन्द्रशुभ्राणि भामिनि ॥१३-१३०-४६॥
sthaṇḍilasya phalāny āhur yānāni śayanāni ca। gṛhāṇi ca mahārhāṇi candraśubhrāṇi bhāmini॥13-130-46॥
[स्थण्डिलस्य (sthaṇḍilasya) - of Sthaṇḍila; (proper name); फलानि (phalāni) - fruits; (results; possessions;) आहु: (āhuḥ) - they say; यानानि (yānāni) - vehicles; शयनानि (śayanāni) - beds; च (ca) - and; गृहाणि (gṛhāṇi) - houses; च (ca) - and; महार्हाणि (mahārhāṇi) - very costly; चन्द्रशुभ्राणि (candraśubhrāṇi) - moon-white; (bright as the moon;) भामिनि (bhāmini) - O splendid lady;]
(Of Sthaṇḍila, the fruits they say are vehicles, beds and houses and very costly, moon-white, O splendid lady.)
O splendid lady, they say the results for Sthaṇḍila are vehicles, beds, and houses that are very costly and shining white like the moon. (13-130-46)
आत्मानमुपजीवन्यो नियतो नियताशनः। देहं वानशने त्यक्त्वा स स्वर्गं समुपाश्नुते ॥१३-१३०-४७॥
ātmānam upajīvan-yo niyataḥ niyatāśanaḥ। dehaṃ vā anaśane tyaktvā sa svargaṃ samupāśnute॥13-130-47॥
[आत्मानम् (ātmānam) - the self; उपजीवन् (upajīvan) - subsisting; यः (yaḥ) - who; नियतः (niyataḥ) - self-controlled; नियताशनः (niyatāśanaḥ) - having regulated food; देहम् (deham) - the body; वा (vā) - or; अनशने (anaśane) - in fasting; त्यक्त्वा (tyaktvā) - having abandoned; सः (saḥ) - he; स्वर्गम् (svargam) - heaven; समुपाश्नुते (samupāśnute) - completely attains;]
(Who subsisting on the self, self-controlled, having regulated food, or having abandoned the body in fasting, he completely attains heaven.)
He who sustains himself, is self-controlled, eats regulated food, and giving up the body by fasting, attains heaven. (13-130-47)
आत्मानमुपजीवन्यो दीक्षां द्वादशवार्षिकीम्। त्यक्त्वा महार्णवे देहं वारुणं लोकमश्नुते ॥१३-१३०-४८॥
ātmānam-upajīvan-yo dīkṣāṃ dvādaśa-vārṣikīm। tyaktvā mahārṇave dehaṃ vāruṇaṃ lokam-aśnute ॥13-130-48॥
[आत्मानम् (ātmānam) - oneself; उपजीवन् (upajīvan) - subsisting; यो (yaḥ) - who; दीक्षाम् (dīkṣām) - discipline; द्वादशवार्षिकीम् (dvādaśa-vārṣikīm) - of twelve years; त्यक्त्वा (tyaktvā) - having abandoned; महार्णवे (mahārṇave) - in the great ocean; देहम् (deham) - body; वारुणम् (vāruṇam) - of Varuṇa; लोकम् (lokam) - world; अश्नुते (aśnute) - attains;]
(Who subsisting on oneself, discipline of twelve years, having abandoned body in the great ocean, the world of Varuṇa attains.)
Who, subsisting on himself, undertakes a twelve-year discipline, and after abandoning his body in the great ocean, attains the world of Varuṇa. (13-130-48)
आत्मानमुपजीवन्यो दीक्षां द्वादशवार्षिकीम्। अश्मना चरणौ भित्त्वा गुह्यकेषु स मोदते ॥१३-१३०-४९॥
ātmānam upajīvanyo dīkṣāṃ dvādaśa-vārṣikīm। aśmanā caraṇau bhittvā guhyakeṣu sa modate ॥13-130-49॥

साधयित्वात्मनात्मानं निर्द्वंद्वो निष्परिग्रहः। चीर्त्वा द्वादश वर्षाणि दीक्षामेकां मनोगताम् ॥ स्वर्गलोकमवाप्नोति देवैश्च सह मोदते ॥१३-१३०-५०॥
sādhayitvātmana ātmānaṃ nirdvaṃdvo niṣparigrahaḥ। cīrtvā dvādaśa varṣāṇi dīkṣāmekāṃ manogatām ॥ svargalokam avāpnoti devaiś ca saha modate ॥13-130-50॥

Having achieved self-mastery through his own effort, being free from duality and without possessions, having observed a single initiation resolved in his mind for twelve years, he attains the heavenly world and enjoys bliss together with the gods. (13-130-50)
आत्मानमुपजीवन्यो दीक्षां द्वादशवार्षिकीम्। हुत्वाग्नौ देहमुत्सृज्य वह्निलोके महीयते ॥१३-१३०-५१॥
ātmānam upajīvan-yo dīkṣāṃ dvādaśa-vārṣikīm। hutvā agnau deham utsṛjya vahni-loke mahīyate ॥13-130-51॥

(Oneself, having sustained (oneself), the consecration of twelve years, having offered oblation into the fire, the body having abandoned, in the world of fire is glorified.)
One who, having sustained himself, undergoes consecration for twelve years, and after offering oblations into the fire abandons his body, becomes glorified in the world of fire. (13-130-51)
यस्तु देवि यथान्यायं दीक्षितो नियतो द्विजः। आत्मन्यात्मानमाधाय निर्द्वंद्वो निष्परिग्रहः ॥१३-१३०-५२॥
yastu devi yathānyāyaṃ dīkṣito niyato dvijaḥ। ātmanyātmānam-ādhāya nirdvandvo niṣparigrahaḥ॥13-130-52॥
[यः (yaḥ) - who; तु (tu) - but; देवि (devi) - O goddess; यथा (yathā) - according to; अन्यायम् (anyāyam) - right procedure; दीक्षितः (dīkṣitaḥ) - consecrated; नियतः (niyataḥ) - self-controlled; द्विजः (dvijaḥ) - twice-born; आत्मनि (ātmani) - in the self; आत्मानम् (ātmānam) - oneself; आधाय (ādhāya) - having placed; निर्द्वंद्वः (nirdvandvaḥ) - free from dualities; निष्परिग्रहः (niṣparigrahaḥ) - without possessions;]
(Who, but, O goddess, according to right procedure, consecrated, self-controlled, twice-born, in the self, oneself, having placed, free from dualities, without possessions.)
But he, O goddess, who, being consecrated and self-controlled as per right procedure, is a twice-born, having placed the self within the self, free from dualities and without possessions. (13-130-52)
चीर्त्वा द्वादश वर्षाणि दीक्षामेकां मनोगताम्। अरणीसहितं स्कन्धे बद्ध्वा गच्छत्यनावृतः ॥१३-१३०-५३॥
cīrtvā dvādaśa varṣāṇi dīkṣām ekāṃ manogatām। araṇī-sahitaṃ skandhe baddhvā gacchati anāvṛtaḥ ॥13-130-53॥
[चीर्त्वा (cīrtvā) - having completed; द्वादश (dvādaśa) - twelve; वर्षाणि (varṣāṇi) - years; दीक्षाम् (dīkṣām) - vow; एकां (ekāṃ) - one; मनोगताम् (manogatām) - kept in mind; अरणीसहितं (araṇī-sahitaṃ) - together with the araṇi (sacrificial fire-tool); स्कन्धे (skandhe) - on (his) shoulder; बद्ध्वा (baddhvā) - having tied; गच्छति (gacchati) - he goes; अनावृतः (anāvṛtaḥ) - uncovered;]
(Having completed twelve years of the one vow kept in mind, having tied the araṇi together on (his) shoulder, he goes uncovered.)
After completing twelve years of the single vow contemplated in his mind, having fastened the araṇi fire-sticks to his shoulder, he proceeds without covering. (13-130-53)
वीराध्वानमना नित्यं वीरासनरतस्तथा। वीरस्थायी च सततं स वीरगतिमाप्नुयात् ॥१३-१३०-५४॥
vīrādhvānamanā nityaṃ vīrāsanaratastathā। vīrasthāyī ca satataṃ sa vīragatim āpnuyāt ॥13-130-54॥
[वीराध्वानमना (vīrādhvānamanā) - having mind intent on the heroic path; नित्यं (nityaṃ) - always; वीरासनरतः (vīrāsanarataḥ) - engaged in the heroic posture; तथा (tathā) - also; वीरस्थायी (vīrasthāyī) - abiding in heroism; च (ca) - and; सततं (satataṃ) - constantly; सः (saḥ) - he; वीरगतिम् (vīragatim) - the path of the hero; आप्नुयात् (āpnuyāt) - should attain;]
(Having mind intent on the heroic path always, engaged in the heroic posture also, abiding in heroism and constantly, he should attain the path of the hero.)
He who always keeps his mind intent on the heroic path, who is engaged in heroic postures, and who constantly abides in heroism—he attains the way of the hero. (13-130-54)
स शक्रलोकगो नित्यं सर्वकामपुरस्कृतः। दिव्यपुष्पसमाकीर्णो दिव्यचन्दनभूषितः ॥ सुखं वसति धर्मात्मा दिवि देवगणैः सह ॥१३-१३०-५५॥
sa śakralokago nityaṃ sarvakāmapuraskṛtaḥ। divyapuṣpasamākīrṇo divyacandanabhūṣitaḥ॥ sukhaṃ vasati dharmātmā divi devagaṇaiḥ saha॥13-130-55॥
[स (sa) - he; शक्रलोकगः (śakralokagaḥ) - gone to Indra's world; नित्यम् (nityam) - always; सर्वकामपुरस्कृतः (sarvakāmapuraskṛtaḥ) - endowed with all desires; दिव्यपुष्पसमाकीर्णः (divyapuṣpasamākīrṇaḥ) - covered with divine flowers; दिव्यचन्दनभूषितः (divyacandanabhūṣitaḥ) - adorned with divine sandalwood; सुखम् (sukham) - happily; वसति (vasati) - dwells; धर्मात्मा (dharmātmā) - righteous-souled one; दिवि (divi) - in heaven; देवगणैः (devagaṇaiḥ) - with the groups of gods; सह (saha) - together;]
(He, gone to Indra's world, always endowed with all desires, covered with divine flowers, adorned with divine sandalwood, happily dwells, the righteous-souled one, in heaven, with the groups of gods, together.)
He, having reached the world of Indra, ever attended by all enjoyments, surrounded by divine flowers and adorned with divine sandalwood, dwells in happiness in heaven together with the groups of gods, being a righteous soul. (13-130-55)
वीरलोकगतो वीरो वीरयोगवहः सदा। सत्त्वस्थः सर्वमुत्सृज्य दीक्षितो नियतः शुचिः ॥ वीराध्वानं प्रपद्येद्यस्तस्य लोकाः सनातनाः ॥१३-१३०-५६॥
vīralokagato vīro vīrayogavahaḥ sadā। sattvasthaḥ sarvam utsṛjya dīkṣito niyataḥ śuciḥ॥ vīrādhvānaṃ prapadyed yas tasya lokāḥ sanātanāḥ॥13-130-56॥
[वीरलोकगतः (vīralokagataḥ) - one who has gone to the world of heroes; वीरः (vīraḥ) - the hero; वीरयोगवहः (vīrayogavahaḥ) - bearing the union of heroism; सदा (sadā) - always; सत्त्वस्थः (sattvasthaḥ) - established in purity; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all (everything); उत्सृज्य (utsṛjya) - having abandoned; दीक्षितः (dīkṣitaḥ) - one who is initiated; नियतः (niyataḥ) - self-controlled; शुचिः (śuciḥ) - pure; वीराध्वानम् (vīrādhvānam) - the heroic path; प्रपद्येत् (prapadyet) - should attain; यः (yaḥ) - who; तस्य (tasya) - his; लोकाः (lokāḥ) - worlds; सनातनाः (sanātanāḥ) - eternal;]
(Having gone to the world of heroes, the hero, bearing the union of heroism, always, established in purity, having abandoned all, initiated, self-controlled, pure, the heroic path should attain; who, his worlds are eternal.)
He who, having gone to the world of heroes, always bears the union of heroism, established in purity, having abandoned all, who is initiated, self-controlled, and pure, should attain the heroic path; his worlds are eternal. (13-130-56)
कामगेन विमानेन स वै चरति च्छन्दतः। शक्रलोकगतः श्रीमान्मोदते च निरामयः ॥१३-१३०-५७॥
kāmagena vimānena sa vai carati chanda taḥ। śakralokagataḥ śrīmān modate ca nirāmayaḥ ॥13-130-57॥
[कामगेन (kāmagena) - by the wish-yoked (at-will) chariot; विमानेन (vimānena) - by chariot (aerial vehicle); स (sa) - he; वै (vai) - indeed; चरति (carati) - moves; roams; च्छन्दतः (chandataḥ) - according to his will; शक्रलोकगतः (śakralokagataḥ) - having reached the world of Indra; श्रीमान् (śrīmān) - possessing splendor; glorious; मोदते (modate) - delights; च (ca) - and; निरामयः (nirāmayaḥ) - free from affliction;]
(By the wish-yoked chariot he indeed moves according to his will; having reached Indra's world, the glorious one delights and is free from affliction.)
He travels at will in a wish-fulfilling chariot; reaching the sphere of Indra, the fortunate one rejoices and is free from suffering. (13-130-57)
