śuśrūṣe tasya dharmajña rājarṣeḥ parikīrtanam। dvaipāyana maruttasya kathāṃ prabrūhi me'nagha ॥14-4-1॥

āsītkṛtayuge pūrvaṃ manur daṇḍadharaḥ prabhuḥ। tasya putro maheṣvāsaḥ prājātir iti viśrutaḥ॥14-4-2॥

(There was, in the Kṛta Yuga, formerly, Manu, holder of the staff, lord. His son, a great archer, Prajāti—thus (he is) well-known.)
Formerly, in the Kṛta Yuga, there was Manu, the lord and bearer of the staff. His son, the renowned great archer, was Prajāti. (14-4-2)
प्रजातेरभवत्पुत्रः क्षुप इत्यभिविश्रुतः। क्षुपस्य पुत्रस्त्विक्ष्वाकुर्महीपालोऽभवत्प्रभुः ॥१४-४-३॥
prajāter abhavat putraḥ kṣupa iti abhiviśrutaḥ। kṣupasya putraḥ tu ikṣvākuḥ mahīpālaḥ abhavat prabhuḥ॥14-4-3॥

(Of Prajāti was the son Kṣupa, thus well-known. Of Kṣupa the son but Ikṣvāku, ruler of earth, was the lord.)
Kṣupa, a well-known son of Prajāti, was born. Ikṣvāku, the king who ruled the earth, was the son of Kṣupa. (14-4-3)
तस्य पुत्रशतं राजन्नासीत्परमधार्मिकम्। तांस्तु सर्वान्महीपालानिक्ष्वाकुरकरोत्प्रभुः ॥१४-४-४॥
tasya putraśataṃ rājann āsīt paramadhārmikam। tāṃs tu sarvān mahīpālān ikṣvākuḥ akarot prabhuḥ ॥14-4-4॥
[तस्य (tasya) - his; of him; पुत्रशतम् (putraśatam) - one hundred sons; राजन् (rājan) - O king; आसीत् (āsīt) - there was; परमधार्मिकम् (paramadhārmikam) - extremely righteous; ताम् (tām) - them; तु (tu) - but; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; महीपालान् (mahīpālān) - kings; rulers of the earth; इक्ष्वाकुः (ikṣvākuḥ) - Ikshvaku; अकरोत् (akarot) - made; appointed; प्रभुः (prabhuḥ) - the lord; the master;]
(Of him one hundred sons, O king, there was, extremely righteous. Them but all kings Ikshvaku made, the lord.)
O king, he had a hundred sons, all extremely righteous. Ikshvaku, the lord, made all of them rulers of the earth. (14-4-4)
तेषां ज्येष्ठस्तु विंशोऽभूत्प्रतिमानं धनुष्मताम्। विंशस्य पुत्रः कल्याणो विविंशो नाम भारत ॥१४-४-५॥
teṣāṃ jyeṣṭhastu viṃśo'bhūtpraṭimānaṃ dhanuṣmatām। viṃśasya putraḥ kalyāṇo viviṃśo nāma bhārata ॥14-4-5॥

(Of them, the eldest but was Viṃśa, equal among the bowmen. Of Viṃśa, the son, auspicious, Viviṃśa by name, O Bhārata.)
O Bhārata, among them, the eldest was Viṃśa, who was the equal of the bowmen. Viṃśa's son, an auspicious one, was named Viviṃśa. (14-4-5)
विविंशस्य सुता राजन्बभूवुर्दश पञ्च च। सर्वे धनुषि विक्रान्ता ब्रह्मण्याः सत्यवादिनः ॥१४-४-६॥
viviṁśasya sutā rājan babhūvur daśa pañca ca। sarve dhanuṣi vikrāntā brahmaṇyāḥ satyavādinaḥ॥14-4-6॥
[विविंशस्य (viviṁśasya) - of Viviṁśa; सुता (sutā) - sons; राजन् (rājan) - O king; बभूवुः (babhūvuḥ) - became; दश (daśa) - ten; पञ्च (pañca) - five; च (ca) - and; सर्वे (sarve) - all; धनुषि (dhanuṣi) - in archery; विक्रान्ताः (vikrāntāḥ) - valiant; ब्रह्मण्याः (brahmaṇyāḥ) - devoted to Brahman; सत्यवादिनः (satyavādinaḥ) - truth-speakers;]
(Of Viviṁśa, sons, O king, became ten and five. All in archery valiant, devoted to Brahman, truth-speakers.)
O king, there were fifteen sons of Viviṁśa. All of them were valiant in archery, devoted to Brahman, and speakers of the truth. (14-4-6)
दानधर्मरताः सन्तः सततं प्रियवादिनः। तेषां ज्येष्ठः खनीनेत्रः स तान्सर्वानपीडयत् ॥१४-४-७॥
dānadharmaratāḥ santaḥ satataṃ priyavādinaḥ। teṣāṃ jyeṣṭhaḥ khanīnetraḥ sa tān sarvān apīḍayat॥14-4-7॥
[दानधर्मरताः (dānadharmaratāḥ) - devoted to charity and righteousness; सन्तः (santaḥ) - virtuous persons; सततं (satataṃ) - always; प्रियवादिनः (priyavādinaḥ) - those who speak pleasantly; तेषां (teṣāṃ) - of them; ज्येष्ठः (jyeṣṭhaḥ) - the elder; खनीनेत्रः (khanīnetraḥ) - Khanīnetra (proper name); स (sa) - he; तान् (tān) - (those) them; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; अपीडयत् (apīḍayat) - oppressed;]
(Devoted to charity and righteousness, virtuous persons always, those who speak pleasantly; of them the elder Khanīnetra, he oppressed all those.)
Among virtuous people devoted to charity and righteousness who were always pleasant-spoken, their elder Khanīnetra oppressed all of them. (14-4-7)
खनीनेत्रस्तु विक्रान्तो जित्वा राज्यमकण्टकम्। नाशक्नोद्रक्षितुं राज्यं नान्वरज्यन्त तं प्रजाः ॥१४-४-८॥
khanīnētras tu vikrānto jitvā rājyam akaṇṭakam। na aśaknōd rakṣitum rājyam na anvarajyanta taṃ prajāḥ॥14-4-8॥
[खनीनेत्रः (khanīnētraḥ) - with eyes gouged out; (lit. one whose eyes are dug out); तु (tu) - but; विक्रान्तः (vikrāntaḥ) - powerful; (courageous); जित्वा (jitvā) - having conquered; राज्यम् (rājyam) - kingdom; अकण्टकम् (akaṇṭakam) - free from thorns; (troubles); न (na) - not; अशक्नोत् (aśaknōt) - was able; रक्षितुम् (rakṣitum) - to protect; राज्यम् (rājyam) - kingdom; न (na) - not; अन्वरज्यन्त (anvarajyanta) - followed (him); तम् (tam) - him; प्रजाः (prajāḥ) - subjects;]
(But khaninetras, though powerful, having conquered the kingdom free from thorns, was not able to protect the kingdom; the subjects did not follow him.)

तमपास्य च तद्राष्ट्रं तस्य पुत्रं सुवर्चसम्। अभ्यषिञ्चत राजेन्द्र मुदितं चाभवत्तदा ॥१४-४-९॥
tam apāsya ca tad rāṣṭraṃ tasya putraṃ suvarcasam | abhyaṣiñcata rājendra muditaṃ ca abhavat tadā ॥14-4-9॥

(Him having set aside and that kingdom to his son Suvarcasa anointed, O king, rejoiced and became then.)
Having set him aside, he anointed Suvarcasa, his son, as ruler of that kingdom, O king, and there was rejoicing then. (14-4-9)
स पितुर्विक्रियां दृष्ट्वा राज्यान्निरसनं तथा। नियतो वर्तयामास प्रजाहितचिकीर्षया ॥१४-४-१०॥
sa piturvikriyāṃ dṛṣṭvā rājyānnirasanaṃ tathā। niyato vartayāmāsa prajāhitacikīrṣayā॥14-4-10॥
[स (sa) - he; पितुः (pituḥ) - of his father; विक्रियां (vikriyām) - misdeed; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; राज्यान्निरसनं (rājyān nirasanam) - banishment from the kingdom; तथा (tathā) - thus; नियतः (niyataḥ) - self-controlled; वर्तयामास (vartayāmāsa) - conducted himself; प्रजाहितचिकीर्षया (prajāhita-cikīrṣayā) - with the intention of doing good to the people;]
(He, having seen the misdeed of his father and, thus, the banishment from the kingdom, being self-controlled, conducted himself with the intention of doing good to the people.)
Seeing his father's misdeed and his own banishment from the kingdom, he, self-controlled, conducted himself with the intent to benefit the people. (14-4-10)
ब्रह्मण्यः सत्यवादी च शुचिः शमदमान्वितः। प्रजास्तं चान्वरज्यन्त धर्मनित्यं मनस्विनम् ॥१४-४-११॥
brahmaṇyaḥ satyavādī ca śuciḥ śamadamānvitaḥ। prajāstaṃ cānv arajyanta dharmanityaṃ manasvinam ॥14-4-11॥
[ब्रह्मण्यः (brahmaṇyaḥ) - devoted to Brahman; devoted to sacred knowledge; सत्यवादी (satyavādī) - speaker of truth; च (ca) - and; शुचिः (śuciḥ) - pure; शमदमान्वितः (śamadamānvitaḥ) - endowed with tranquility and self-restraint; प्रजाः (prajāḥ) - subjects; people; तम् (tam) - him; च (ca) - and; अन्वरज्यन्त (anvarajyanta) - followed (after); were devoted to; धर्मनित्यम् (dharmanityam) - always (engaged) in dharma; मनस्विनम् (manasvinam) - high-minded; noble-minded;]
(Devoted to Brahman, speaker of truth, and pure, endowed with tranquility and self-restraint, the subjects indeed followed him, always (engaged) in dharma, high-minded.)
He was devoted to Brahman, truthful in speech, pure, endowed with tranquility and self-restraint; the people, always intent on righteousness, followed him, who was noble-minded. (14-4-11)
तस्य धर्मप्रवृत्तस्य व्यशीर्यत्कोशवाहनम्। तं क्षीणकोशं सामन्ताः समन्तात्पर्यपीडयन् ॥१४-४-१२॥
tasya dharmapravṛttasya vyaśīryat kośavāhanam। taṃ kṣīṇakośaṃ sāmantāḥ samantāt paryapīḍayan ॥14-4-12॥
[तस्य (tasya) - of him; (genitive singular of saḥ, he;) ; धर्मप्रवृत्तस्य (dharmapravṛttasya) - who was engaged in dharma; व्यशीर्यत् (vyaśīryat) - was shattered; कोशवाहनम् (kośavāhanam) - treasury-vehicle; (resources/carriage of wealth;) ; तं (tam) - him; (accusative singular of saḥ, he;) ; क्षीणकोशं (kṣīṇakośam) - with diminished treasury; सामन्ताः (sāmantāḥ) - feudatory chiefs; समन्तात् (samantāt) - from all sides; पर्यपीडयन् (paryapīḍayan) - pressed upon; (harassed; oppressed;) ;]
(Of him who was engaged in dharma, the treasury-vehicle was shattered. Him with diminished treasury, the feudatory chiefs from all sides pressed upon.)
As his wealth was depleted, despite being engaged in dharma, his resources collapsed. Then, with his treasury diminished, the feudatory chiefs oppressed him from all sides. (14-4-12)
स पीड्यमानो बहुभिः क्षीणकोशस्त्ववाहनः। आर्तिमार्छत्परां राजा सह भृत्यैः पुरेण च ॥१४-४-१३॥
sa pīḍyamānaḥ bahubhiḥ kṣīṇa-kośaḥ tu avāhanaḥ ārtim ārcchat parāṃ rājā saha bhṛtyaiḥ pureṇa ca ॥14-4-13॥
[स (sa) - he; पीड्यमानः (pīḍyamānaḥ) - being tormented; बहुभिः (bahubhiḥ) - by many; क्षीणकोशः (kṣīṇa-kośaḥ) - having exhausted treasury; तु (tu) - but; अवाहनः (avāhanaḥ) - without a vehicle; आर्तिम् (ārtim) - distress; अर्च्छत् (ārcchat) - attained; पराम् (parām) - utmost; राजा (rājā) - the king; सह (saha) - together with; भृत्यैः (bhṛtyaiḥ) - with servants; पुरेण (pureṇa) - with the city (people); च (ca) - and; ॥१४-४-१३॥ (14-4-13) - ;]
(He, being tormented by many, with an exhausted treasury but without a vehicle, the king attained utmost distress, together with the servants and the city.)
He, tormented by many, with a depleted treasury and lacking means of conveyance, the king, along with his servants and the entire city, reached the utmost distress. (14-4-13)
न चैनं परिहर्तुं तेऽशक्नुवन्परिसङ्क्षये। सम्यग्वृत्तो हि राजा स धर्मनित्यो युधिष्ठिर ॥१४-४-१४॥
na ca enaṁ parihartuṁ te'śaknuvan parisaṅkṣaye। samyagvṛtto hi rājā sa dharmanityo yudhiṣṭhira ॥14-4-14॥
[न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; एनम् (enaṁ) - him; परिहर्तुम् (parihartum) - to abandon; ते (te) - they; अशक्नुवन् (aśaknuvan) - were unable; परिसङ्क्षये (parisaṅkṣaye) - in the end (at the final destruction/end phase); सम्यग्वृत्तः (samyagvṛttaḥ) - righteous in conduct; हि (hi) - indeed; राजा (rājā) - king; सः (saḥ) - he; धर्मनित्यः (dharmanityaḥ) - always steadfast in dharma; युधिष्ठिर (yudhiṣṭhira) - Yudhishthira;]
(Not and him to abandon they were unable in the final destruction; righteous in conduct indeed king he always steadfast in dharma Yudhishthira.)
Even at the final destruction, they were unable to abandon him; for King Yudhishthira was righteous in conduct and always steadfast in dharma. (14-4-14)
यदा तु परमामार्तिं गतोऽसौ सपुरो नृपः। ततः प्रदध्मौ स करं प्रादुरासीत्ततो बलम् ॥१४-४-१५॥
yadā tu paramām ārtiṃ gato'sau sapuro nṛpaḥ। tataḥ pradadhmau sa karaṃ prādurāsīttato balam ॥14-4-15॥
[यदा (yadā) - when;​ तु (tu) - but;​ परमाम् (paramām) - supreme;​ आर्तिम् (ārtiṃ) - distress;​ गतः (gataḥ) - having reached;​ असौ (asau) - he;​ सपुरः (sapuraḥ) - with his city;​ नृपः (nṛpaḥ) - the king;​ ततः (tataḥ) - then;​ प्रदध्मौ (pradadhmau) - he blew;​ स (sa) - he;​ करम् (karaṃ) - the horn;​ प्रादुरासीत् (prādurāsīt) - manifested;​ ततः (tataḥ) - then;​ बलम् (balam) - the army;​;]
(When but supreme distress having reached he with his city the king, then he blew the horn, manifested then the army.)
But when the king, along with his city, reached supreme distress, then he blew the horn, and then the army appeared. (14-4-15)
ततस्तानजयत्सर्वान्प्रातिसीमान्नराधिपान्। एतस्मात्कारणाद्राजन्विश्रुतः स करन्धमः ॥१४-४-१६॥
tatas tān ajayat sarvān prātisīmān narādhipān। etasmāt kāraṇāt rājan viśrutaḥ sa karandhamaḥ ॥14-4-16॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - thereupon; तान् (tān) - them; अजयत् (ajayat) - he conquered; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; प्रातिसीमान् (prātisīmān) - bordering (kings); नराधिपान् (narādhipān) - kings (rulers of men); एतस्मात् (etasmāt) - from this; कारणात् (kāraṇāt) - reason; राजन् (rājan) - O king; विश्रुतः (viśrutaḥ) - famous; सः (saḥ) - he; करन्धमः (karandhamaḥ) - Karandhama;]
(Thereupon them he conquered all bordering kings. From this reason, O king, famous he (is) Karandhama.)
Thereupon, he conquered all the neighboring kings. For this reason, O king, Karandhama is renowned. (14-4-16)
तस्य कारन्धमः पुत्रस्त्रेतायुगमुखेऽभवत्। इन्द्रादनवरः श्रीमान्देवैरपि सुदुर्जयः ॥१४-४-१७॥
tasya kārandhamaḥ putras tretāyugamukhe'bhavat। indrādanavaraḥ śrīmān devair api sudurjayaḥ ॥14-4-17॥
[तस्य (tasya) - his; of him; कारन्धमः (kārandhamaḥ) - Kārandhama; (proper noun, name); पुत्रः (putraḥ) - son; त्रेतायुगमुखे (tretāyuga-mukhe) - at the beginning of the Tretā yuga; अभवत् (abhavat) - was; became; इन्द्रात् (indrāt) - than Indra; अनवरः (anavaraḥ) - not inferior; श्रीमान् (śrīmān) - splendid; prosperous; illustrious; देवैः (devaiḥ) - by the gods; अपि (api) - even; सुदुर्जयः (sudurjayaḥ) - very difficult to conquer;]
(His Kārandhama son at the beginning of the Tretā yuga was. Than Indra not inferior, illustrious, by the gods even very difficult to conquer.)
His son Kārandhama was born at the beginning of the Tretā yuga. He was not inferior to Indra, illustrious, and very difficult even for the gods to conquer. (14-4-17)
तस्य सर्वे महीपाला वर्तन्ते स्म वशे तदा। स हि सम्राडभूत्तेषां वृत्तेन च बलेन च ॥१४-४-१८॥
tasya sarve mahīpālā vartante sma vaśe tadā. sa hi samrāḍabhūtteṣāṃ vṛttena ca balena ca ॥14-4-18॥
[तस्य (tasya) - of him; सर्वे (sarve) - all; महीपाला (mahīpālā) - kings (protectors of earth); वर्तन्ते (vartante) - remained; स्म (sma) - indeed; (past marker); वशे (vaśe) - under control; तदा (tadā) - then; स (sa) - he; हि (hi) - indeed; सम्राट् (samrāṭ) - emperor; अभूत् (abhūt) - became; तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; वृत्तेन (vṛttena) - by conduct; च (ca) - and; बलेन (balena) - by strength; च (ca) - and;]
(Of him all kings remained indeed under control then. He indeed became emperor of them by conduct and by strength and.)
At that time, all the kings were under his control. Indeed, he became their emperor by both conduct and strength. (14-4-18)
अविक्षिन्नाम धर्मात्मा शौर्येणेन्द्रसमोऽभवत्। यज्ञशीलः कर्मरतिर्धृतिमान्संयतेन्द्रियः ॥१४-४-१९॥
avikṣinnām dharmātmā śauryeṇendrasamo'bhavat। yajñaśīlaḥ karmaratirdhṛtimān saṃyatendriyaḥ ॥14-4-19॥
[अविक्षिन्नाम (avikṣinnām) - unbroken-minded; (with undisturbed mind); धर्मात्मा (dharmātmā) - righteous-souled; (whose nature is dharma); शौर्येण (śauryeṇa) - with valor; इन्द्रसमः (indrasamaḥ) - equal to Indra; अभवत् (abhavat) - he became; यज्ञशीलः (yajñaśīlaḥ) - devoted to sacrifice; कर्मरति: (karmaratih) - rejoicing in action; धृतिमान् (dhṛtimān) - steadfast; संयतेन्द्रियः (saṃyatendriyaḥ) - self-controlled in senses;]
(Unbroken-minded, righteous-souled, with valor equal to Indra, he became. Devoted to sacrifice, rejoicing in action, steadfast, self-controlled in senses.)
He was unwavering in mind, righteous in nature, possessing valor equal to Indra. He was devoted to sacrifice, rejoiced in action, steadfast, and had his senses under control. (14-4-19)
तेजसादित्यसदृशः क्षमया पृथिवीसमः। बृहस्पतिसमो बुद्ध्या हिमवानिव सुस्थिरः ॥१४-४-२०॥
tejasādityasadṛśaḥ kṣamayā pṛthivīsamaḥ. bṛhaspatisamo buddhyā himavāniva susthiraḥ॥14-4-20॥

(By brightness like the sun, by forbearance equal to the earth, by intelligence equal to Bṛhaspati, like Himavat very firm.)
He is like the sun in brightness, equal to the earth in forbearance, equal to Bṛhaspati in intelligence, and as steadfast as Himavat (the Himalaya). (14-4-20)
कर्मणा मनसा वाचा दमेन प्रशमेन च। मनांस्याराधयामास प्रजानां स महीपतिः ॥१४-४-२१॥
karmaṇā manasā vācā damena praśamena ca। manāṃsy ārādhayām āsa prajānāṃ sa mahīpatiḥ॥14-4-21॥
[कर्मणा (karmaṇā) - by action; मनसा (manasā) - by mind; वाचा (vācā) - by speech; दमेन (damena) - by self-restraint; प्रशमेन (praśamena) - by tranquility; च (ca) - and; मनांसि (manāṃsi) - minds; आराधयामास (ārādhayām āsa) - he pleased; प्रजानाम् (prajānām) - of the people; स (sa) - he; महीपतिः (mahīpatiḥ) - the king;]
(By action, by mind, by speech, by self-restraint, by tranquility and, the minds he pleased of the people, he the king.)
The king pleased the minds of his people by action, mind, speech, self-restraint, and tranquility. (14-4-21)
य ईजे हयमेधानां शतेन विधिवत्प्रभुः। याजयामास यं विद्वान्स्वयमेवाङ्गिराः प्रभुः ॥१४-४-२२॥
ya īje hayamedhānāṃ śatena vidhivat-prabhuḥ। yājayāmāsa yaṃ vidvān svayam eva āṅgirāḥ prabhuḥ॥14-4-22॥

(Who performed sacrifice of horse-sacrifices with a hundred, according to the prescribed rite, the master. Whom the wise one Angiras himself, indeed, the master, caused to be performed the sacrifice.)
He, the lord, who performed a hundred horse-sacrifices according to the proper rite; whom the learned sage Angiras himself caused to perform the sacrifice. (14-4-22)
तस्य पुत्रोऽतिचक्राम पितरं गुणवत्तया। मरुत्तो नाम धर्मज्ञश्चक्रवर्ती महायशाः ॥१४-४-२३॥

नागायुतसमप्राणः साक्षाद्विष्णुरिवापरः। स यक्ष्यमाणो धर्मात्मा शातकुम्भमयान्युत ॥ कारयामास शुभ्राणि भाजनानि सहस्रशः ॥१४-४-२४॥
nāgāyutasamaprāṇaḥ sākṣād viṣṇur ivāparaḥ। sa yakṣyamāṇo dharmātmā śātakumbhamayāni uta ॥ kārayāmāsa śubhrāṇi bhājanāni sahasraśaḥ ॥14-4-24॥
[नागायुतसमप्राणः (nāgāyutasamaprāṇaḥ) - having strength equal to a myriad of elephants; साक्षात् (sākṣāt) - directly; विष्णुः (viṣṇuḥ) - Viṣṇu; इव (iva) - like; अपरः (aparaḥ) - another; स (sa) - he; यक्ष्यमाणः (yakṣyamāṇaḥ) - about to perform a sacrifice; धर्मात्मा (dharmātmā) - righteous-souled; शातकुम्भमयानि (śātakumbhamayāni) - made of gold; उत (uta) - indeed; कारयामास (kārayāmāsa) - caused to be made; शुभ्राणि (śubhrāṇi) - bright; भाजनानि (bhājanāni) - vessels; सहस्रशः (sahasraśaḥ) - by the thousand;]
(Having strength equal to a myriad of elephants, directly another Viṣṇu as it were; he, about to perform a sacrifice, righteous-souled, indeed caused to be made bright vessels of gold by the thousand.)
He, whose strength was equal to ten thousand elephants, another Viṣṇu incarnate, being about to perform a sacrifice and righteous in soul, indeed had thousands of fine golden vessels made. (14-4-24)
मेरुं पर्वतमासाद्य हिमवत्पार्श्व उत्तरे। काञ्चनः सुमहान्पादस्तत्र कर्म चकार सः ॥१४-४-२५॥
meruṃ parvatam āsādya himavat-pārśva uttare। kāñcanaḥ sumahān pādaḥ tatra karma cakāra saḥ ॥14-4-25॥

(Having reached Mount Meru, the mountain, on the northern side of the Himalaya, there (his) golden, very great foot did a deed he.)

ततः कुण्डानि पात्रीश्च पिठराण्यासनानि च। चक्रुः सुवर्णकर्तारो येषां सङ्ख्या न विद्यते ॥१४-४-२६॥
tataḥ kuṇḍāni pātrīś ca piṭharāṇy āsanāni ca। cakruḥ suvarṇakartāro yeṣāṃ saṅkhyā na vidyate॥14-4-26॥

(Then vessels, bowls and pots, as well as seats, the goldsmiths made, of which the number does not exist.)

तस्यैव च समीपे स यज्ञवाटो बभूव ह। ईजे तत्र स धर्मात्मा विधिवत्पृथिवीपतिः ॥ मरुत्तः सहितैः सर्वैः प्रजापालैर्नराधिपः ॥१४-४-२७॥
tasyaiva ca samīpe sa yajñavāṭo babhūva ha। īje tatra sa dharmātmā vidhivat pṛthivīpatiḥ ॥ maruttaḥ sahitaiḥ sarvaiḥ prajāpālair narādhipaḥ ॥14-4-27॥

(Of him indeed and near, that sacrificial ground became indeed. There he, the righteous-souled king, sacrificed according to rule. Marutta, along with all the protectors of subjects, the chief of men.)
Near him indeed, that sacrificial ground came into being. There, the righteous king Marutta performed sacrifice according to rule together with all the protectors of the people, as the lord of men. (14-4-27)
