[ब्रह्मा (brahmā) - Brahmā (the god Brahmā); उवाच (uvāca) - said;]

Brahmā said.
य उत्पन्नो महान्पूर्वमहङ्कारः स उच्यते। अहमित्येव सम्भूतो द्वितीयः सर्ग उच्यते ॥१४-४१-१॥
ya utpanno mahān pūrvam ahaṅkāraḥ sa ucyate। aham iti eva sambhūtaḥ dvitīyaḥ sarga ucyate॥14-41-1॥
[य (ya) - who; उत्पन्नः (utpannaḥ) - arisen; महान् (mahān) - the Mahat (great principle); पूर्वम् (pūrvam) - before; अहङ्कारः (ahaṅkāraḥ) - ego; सः (saḥ) - he; उच्यते (ucyate) - is called; अहम् (aham) - I; इति (iti) - thus; एव (eva) - indeed; सम्भूतः (sambhūtaḥ) - originated; द्वितीयः (dvitīyaḥ) - second; सर्गः (sargaḥ) - creation; उच्यते (ucyate) - is called;]
(Who arisen as the Mahat before, ego he is called. "I" thus indeed originated, the second creation is called.)
The one who has arisen as Mahat (the great principle) before is called ego. The origin of the sense of "I" is indeed called the second creation. (14-41-1)
अहङ्कारश्च भूतादिर्वैकारिक इति स्मृतः। तेजसश्चेतना धातुः प्रजासर्गः प्रजापतिः ॥१४-४१-२॥
ahaṅkāraś ca bhūtādir vaikārika iti smṛtaḥ। tejaś cetanā dhātuḥ prajāsargaḥ prajāpatiḥ॥ 14-41-2॥
[अहङ्कारः (ahaṅkāraḥ) - ego; spirit of individuality; च (ca) - and; भूतादिः (bhūtādiḥ) - origin of elements; source of beings; वैकारिकः (vaikārikaḥ) - derived from vikāra (modification); associated with Sattva (purity); इति (iti) - thus; so; स्मृतः (smṛtaḥ) - is remembered; is called; तेजसः (tejaśaḥ) - of Tejas (fire, energy); चेतना (cetanā) - consciousness; awareness; धातुः (dhātuḥ) - element; essence; प्रजा-सर्गः (prajā-sargaḥ) - creation of beings; procreation; प्रजापतिः (prajāpatiḥ) - Prajāpati; lord of creatures;]
(Ego and the origin of elements, the vaikārika, thus is called. Of Tejas, consciousness is the element; the creation of beings is Prajāpati.)
The ego, being the origin of the elements and classified as vaikārika, is thus remembered. Of Tejas (fire/energy), consciousness is its essence, and the creation of beings is presided over by Prajāpati. (14-41-2)
देवानां प्रभवो देवो मनसश्च त्रिलोककृत्। अहमित्येव तत्सर्वमभिमन्ता स उच्यते ॥१४-४१-३॥
devānāṃ prabhavo devo manasaś ca trilokakṛt। aham ity eva tat sarvam abhimantā sa ucyate॥14-41-3॥
[देवानां (devānām) - of the gods; प्रभवः (prabhavaḥ) - origin; देवः (devaḥ) - divine one; god; मनसः (manasaḥ) - of mind; च (ca) - and; त्रिलोककृत् (trilokakṛt) - maker of the three worlds; अहम् (aham) - I; इति (iti) - thus; एव (eva) - indeed; तत् (tat) - that; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; अभिमन्ता (abhimantā) - the one who identifies (himself); सः (saḥ) - he; उच्यते (ucyate) - is called;]
(Of the gods origin, divine one, of mind and maker of the three worlds; 'I' thus indeed that all, the one who identifies (himself), he is called.)
He who is the origin of the gods, a divine being, the mind, the maker of the three worlds, and who identifies all that as 'I', he is called the abhimantā. (14-41-3)
अध्यात्मज्ञाननित्यानां मुनीनां भावितात्मनाम्। स्वाध्यायक्रतुसिद्धानामेष लोकः सनातनः ॥१४-४१-४॥
adhyātmajñānanityānāṃ munīnām bhāvitātmanām। svādhyāyakratusiddhānāmeṣa lokaḥ sanātanaḥ॥14-41-4॥
[अध्यात्मज्ञाननित्यानाम् (adhyātmajñānanityānām) - of those who are always intent on spiritual knowledge; मुनीनाम् (munīnām) - of sages; भावितात्मनाम् (bhāvitātmanām) - of those whose minds are purified; स्वाध्यायक्रतुसिद्धानाम् (svādhyāyakratusiddhānām) - of those who have perfected the rite of self-study; एष (eṣa) - this; लोकः (lokaḥ) - world; सनातनः (sanātanaḥ) - eternal;]
(Of those always intent on spiritual knowledge, of sages, of those whose minds are purified, of those who have perfected the rite of self-study, this world is eternal.)
This eternal world belongs to sages who are ever absorbed in spiritual knowledge, whose minds are purified, and who have perfected the rite of self-study. (14-41-4)
अहङ्कारेणाहरतो गुणानिमा; न्भूतादिरेवं सृजते स भूतकृत्। वैकारिकः सर्वमिदं विचेष्टते; स्वतेजसा रञ्जयते जगत्तथा ॥१४-४१-५॥
ahaṅkāreṇāharato guṇānimāḥ; nbhūtādirevaṃ sṛjate sa bhūtakṛt। vaikārikaḥ sarvamidaṃ viceṣṭate; svatejasā rañjayate jagattathā॥14-41-5॥
[अहङ्कारेण (ahaṅkāreṇa) - by egoism; आहरतः (āharataḥ) - by drawing in; गुणानिमा (guṇānimāḥ) - the qualities, indeed; भूतादिः (bhūtādiḥ) - the elemental origin; एवं (evaṃ) - thus; सः (saḥ) - he; भूतकृत् (bhūtakṛt) - creator of beings; वैकारिकः (vaikārikaḥ) - vaikārika (the sattvic principle); सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; इदम् (idam) - this; विचेष्टते (viceṣṭate) - moves/acts; स्वतेजसा (svatejasā) - by his own power; रञ्जयते (rañjayate) - colors/influences; जगत् (jagat) - the world; तथा (tathā) - thus;]
(By egoism drawing in the qualities, the elemental origin thus creates; he, the creator of beings, the vaikārika acts in all this; by his own power, he thus colors the world.)
By egoism, drawing in the qualities, the origin of the elements thus creates; he, as the creator of beings, the sattvic (vaikārika) principle, acts throughout all this, and by his own power, thus influences the world. (14-41-5)
