The one who has arisen as Mahat (the great principle) before is called ego. The origin of the sense of "I" is indeed called the second creation. (14-41-1)
The ego, being the origin of the elements and classified as vaikārika, is thus remembered. Of Tejas (fire/energy), consciousness is its essence, and the creation of beings is presided over by Prajāpati. (14-41-2)
He who is the origin of the gods, a divine being, the mind, the maker of the three worlds, and who identifies all that as 'I', he is called the abhimantā. (14-41-3)
This eternal world belongs to sages who are ever absorbed in spiritual knowledge, whose minds are purified, and who have perfected the rite of self-study. (14-41-4)
By egoism, drawing in the qualities, the origin of the elements thus creates; he, as the creator of beings, the sattvic (vaikārika) principle, acts throughout all this, and by his own power, thus influences the world. (14-41-5)
