ततस्ते प्रययुर्हृष्टाः प्रहृष्टनरवाहनाः। रथघोषेण महता पूरयन्तो वसुन्धराम् ॥१४-६३-१॥
tataste prayayurhṛṣṭāḥ prahṛṣṭanaravāhanāḥ. rathaghoṣeṇa mahatā pūrayanto vasundharām ॥14-63-1॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; ते (te) - they; प्रययुः (prayayur) - departed; हृष्टाः (hṛṣṭāḥ) - gladdened; प्रहृष्टनरवाहनाः (prahṛṣṭanara-vāhanāḥ) - with delighted men and vehicles; रथघोषेण (rathaghoṣeṇa) - by the sound of chariots; महता (mahatā) - great; पूरयन्तः (pūrayantaḥ) - filling; वसुन्धराम् (vasundharām) - the earth;]
(Then they departed, gladdened, with delighted men and vehicles, by the great sound of chariots filling the earth.)
Then, accompanied by delighted men and vehicles, they set out, gladdened, filling the earth with the great sound of their chariots. (14-63-1)
संस्तूयमानाः स्तुतिभिः सूतमागधबन्दिभिः। स्वेन सैन्येन संवीता यथादित्याः स्वरश्मिभिः ॥१४-६३-२॥
saṁstūyamānāḥ stutibhiḥ sūta-māgadha-bandibhiḥ। svena sainyena saṁvītā yathā ādityāḥ sva-raśmibhiḥ॥14-63-2॥
[संस्तूयमानाः (saṁstūyamānāḥ) - being praised; स्तुतिभिः (stutibhiḥ) - with praises; सूतमागधबन्दिभिः (sūta-māgadha-bandibhiḥ) - by bards, panegyrists, and genealogists; स्वेन (svena) - by one's own; सैन्येन (sainyena) - by army; संवीता (saṁvītā) - enveloped; यथा (yathā) - as; आदित्याः (ādityāḥ) - the suns; स्वरश्मिभिः (sva-raśmibhiḥ) - by their own rays;]

पाण्डुरेणातपत्रेण ध्रियमाणेन मूर्धनि। बभौ युधिष्ठिरस्तत्र पौर्णमास्यामिवोडुराट् ॥१४-६३-३॥
pāṇḍureṇātapatreṇa dhriyamāṇena mūrdhani। babhau yudhiṣṭhiras tatra paurṇamāsyām ivoḍurāṭ॥14-63-3॥

(With a pale parasol being held on (his) head, Yudhishthira shone there like the king of stars (the moon) on the night of the full moon.)

जयाशिषः प्रहृष्टानां नराणां पथि पाण्डवः। प्रत्यगृह्णाद्यथान्यायं यथावत्पुरुषर्षभः ॥१४-६३-४॥
jayāśiṣaḥ prahṛṣṭānāṃ narāṇāṃ pathi pāṇḍavaḥ। pratyagṛhṇādyathānyāyaṃ yathāvatpuruṣarṣabhaḥ ॥14-63-4॥
[जयाशिषः (jayāśiṣaḥ) - victory blessings; प्रहृष्टानाम् (prahṛṣṭānām) - of the delighted; नराणाम् (narāṇām) - of men; पथि (pathi) - on the path; पाण्डवः (pāṇḍavaḥ) - the Pāṇḍava; प्रत्यगृह्णात् (pratyagṛhṇāt) - accepted; यथान्यायम् (yathā-nyāyam) - according to propriety; यथावत् (yathāvat) - properly; पुरुषर्षभः (puruṣarṣabhaḥ) - the bull among men;]
(The Pāṇḍava accepted victory blessings of the delighted men on the path, according to propriety, properly, the bull among men.)
The Pāṇḍava, the best of men, properly accepted the joyous victory blessings from the delighted people along the road, in accordance with propriety. (14-63-4)
तथैव सैनिका राजन्राजानमनुयान्ति ये। तेषां हलहलाशब्दो दिवं स्तब्ध्वा व्यतिष्ठत ॥१४-६३-५॥
tathaiva sainikā rājan rājānam anuyānti ye। teṣām halahalāśabdo divaṁ stabdhvā vyatiṣṭhata ॥14-63-5॥
[तथैव (tathaiva) - in the same way; सैनिकाः (sainikāḥ) - soldiers; राजन् (rājan) - O king; राजानम् (rājānam) - the king; अनुयान्ति (anuyānti) - follow; ये (ye) - who; तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; हलहला-शब्दः (halahalāśabdaḥ) - rumbling sound; दिवम् (divam) - the sky; स्तब्ध्वा (stabdhvā) - having filled; व्यतिष्ठत् (vyatiṣṭhat) - stood;]
(In the same way, O king, those soldiers who follow the king — their rumbling sound, having filled the sky, stood.)
Likewise, O king, the soldiers who followed the king — their rumbling noise, filling the sky, resounded. (14-63-5)
स सरांसि नदीश्चैव वनान्युपवनानि च। अत्यक्रामन्महाराजो गिरिं चैवान्वपद्यत ॥१४-६३-६॥
sa sarāṁsi nadīścaiva vanānyupavanāni ca। atyakrāmanmahārājo giriṁ caivānvapadyata ॥14-63-6॥

(He lakes rivers and indeed forests groves and he passed over the great king mountain and indeed he proceeded after.)
He, the great king, passed over lakes, rivers, forests, and groves, and then proceeded towards the mountain. (14-63-6)
तस्मिन्देशे च राजेन्द्र यत्र तद्द्रव्यमुत्तमम्। चक्रे निवेशनं राजा पाण्डवः सह सैनिकैः ॥ शिवे देशे समे चैव तदा भरतसत्तम ॥१४-६३-७॥
tasmin deśe ca rājendra yatra tad dravyam uttamam । cakre niveśanam rājā pāṇḍavaḥ saha sainikaiḥ ॥ śive deśe same caiva tadā bharatasattama ॥14-63-7॥

(In that region and, O chief of kings, where that excellent wealth (was), made (an) encampment (the) king Pāṇḍava together with soldiers. In (an) auspicious, level place indeed then, O best of the Bharatas.)
O chief of kings, in that region where there was that excellent wealth, the Pāṇḍava king made camp there with his soldiers. At that time, in a level and auspicious place, O best of the Bharatas. (14-63-7)
अग्रतो ब्राह्मणान्कृत्वा तपोविद्यादमान्वितान्। पुरोहितं च कौरव्य वेदवेदाङ्गपारगम् ॥१४-६३-८॥
agrato brāhmaṇān kṛtvā tapo-vidyā-dam-ānvitān। purohitaṃ ca kauravya veda-vedāṅga-pāragam॥14-63-8॥
[अग्रतः (agrataḥ) - at the front; in the lead; ब्राह्मणान् (brāhmaṇān) - Brāhmaṇas; priests; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having placed; having made; तपः-विद्या-दम-ан्वितान् (tapaḥ-vidyā-dam-ānvitān) - endowed with austerity, knowledge, and self-control; पुरोहितम् (purohitam) - the chief priest; purohita; च (ca) - and; कौरव्य (kauravya) - O descendant of Kuru; Kauravya; वेद-वेदाङ्ग-पारगम् (veda-vedāṅga-pāragam) - versed in the Veda and the Vedāṅgas;]
(Having placed at the front Brāhmaṇas endowed with austerity, knowledge, and self-control; and the purohita, O Kauravya, versed in the Veda and the Vedāṅgas.)

प्राङ्निवेशात्तु राजानं ब्राह्मणाः सपुरोधसः। कृत्वा शान्तिं यथान्यायं सर्वतः पर्यवारयन् ॥१४-६३-९॥
prāṅniveśāttu rājānaṃ brāhmaṇāḥ sapurodhsaḥ। kṛtvā śāntiṃ yathānyāyaṃ sarvataḥ paryavārayan ॥14-63-9॥

कृत्वा च मध्ये राजानममात्यांश्च यथाविधि। षट्पथं नवसंस्थानं निवेशं चक्रिरे द्विजाः ॥१४-६३-१०॥
kṛtvā ca madhye rājānam amātyāṃś ca yathāvidhi | ṣaṭ-pathaṃ nava-saṃsthānaṃ niveśaṃ cakrire dvijāḥ ॥14-63-10॥

(Having placed the king and the ministers in the middle according to rule, the twice-born made the arrangement of six roads and nine establishments.)
The Brahmins, after placing the king and his ministers in the center as prescribed, arranged the layout of six roads and nine establishments. (14-63-10)
मत्तानां वारणेन्द्राणां निवेशं च यथाविधि। कारयित्वा स राजेन्द्रो ब्राह्मणानिदमब्रवीत् ॥१४-६३-११॥
mattānāṁ vāraṇendrāṇāṁ niveśaṁ ca yathāvidhi। kārayitvā sa rājendro brāhmaṇānidamabravīt ॥14-63-11॥
[मत्तानां (mattānāṁ) - of intoxicated; वारणेन्द्राणां (vāraṇendrāṇāṁ) - of the best elephants; निवेशं (niveśaṁ) - stationing; च (ca) - and; यथाविधि (yathāvidhi) - according to rule; कारयित्वा (kārayitvā) - having caused to be done; स (sa) - he; राजेन्द्रः (rājendraḥ) - the best of kings; ब्राह्मणान् (brāhmaṇān) - the brāhmaṇas; इदम् (idam) - this; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said;]
(Of intoxicated best elephants stationing and according to rule having caused to be arranged, he, the best of kings, to the brāhmaṇas this said.)
Having caused the stationing of the intoxicated best elephants according to rule, the best of kings said this to the brāhmaṇas. (14-63-11)
अस्मिन्कार्ये द्विजश्रेष्ठा नक्षत्रे दिवसे शुभे। यथा भवन्तो मन्यन्ते कर्तुमर्हथ तत्तथा ॥१४-६३-१२॥
asmin kārye dvijaśreṣṭhā nakṣatre divase śubhe। yathā bhavanto manyante kartum arhatha tat tathā ॥14-63-12॥
[अस्मिन् (asmin) (asmin) - in this; कार्ये (kārye) (kārye) - activity; द्विजश्रेष्ठाः (dvijaśreṣṭhāḥ) (dvijaśreṣṭhā) - O best of twice-born; नक्षत्रे (nakṣatre) (nakṣatre) - in the asterism; दिवसे (divase) (divase) - on the day; शुभे (śubhe) (śubhe) - auspicious; यथा (yathā) (yathā) - as; भवन्तः (bhavantaḥ) (bhavantaḥ) - you all; मन्यन्ते (manyante) (manyante) - think; कर्तुम् (kartum) (kartum) - to do; अर्हथ (arhatha) (arhatha) - are worthy; तत् (tat) (tat) - that; तथा (tathā) (tathā) - in that way;]
(In this activity, O best of twice-born, on the auspicious asterism and day, as you all think fit to do, so you ought to do that in that way.)

न नः कालात्ययो वै स्यादिहैव परिलम्बताम्। इति निश्चित्य विप्रेन्द्राः क्रियतां यदनन्तरम् ॥१४-६३-१३॥
na naḥ kālātyayo vai syād ihaiva parilambatām। iti niścitya viprendrāḥ kriyatāṃ yad anantaram॥14-63-13॥
[न (na) - not; नः (naḥ) - of us; कालात्ययः (kālātyayaḥ) - delay; (going beyond the proper time); वै (vai) - indeed; स्यात् (syāt) - should be; इहैव (ihaiva) - here itself; परिलम्बताम् (parilambatām) - let it hang on; let it be postponed; इति (iti) - thus; निश्चित्य (niścitya) - having determined; विप्रेन्द्राः (viprendrāḥ) - O best of Brāhmaṇas; क्रियताम् (kriyatām) - let it be done; यत् (yat) - that which; अनन्तरम् (anantaram) - immediately;]
(Not our delay indeed should be; here itself let it be postponed. Thus having determined, O best of Brāhmaṇas, let that which is immediate be done.)
Let there not be any delay for us; let it not hang on here any longer. Thus having resolved, O best of Brāhmaṇas, whatever is to be done next should be done at once. (14-63-13)

(Having heard these words of the king, the Brāhmaṇas together with the purohita, joyful and wishing to please King Dharma, said these words:)

अद्यैव नक्षत्रमहश्च पुण्यं; यतामहे श्रेष्ठतमं क्रियासु। अम्भोभिरद्येह वसाम राज; न्नुपोष्यतां चापि भवद्भिरद्य ॥१४-६३-१५॥
adyaiva nakṣatramahaś ca puṇyaṃ; yatāmahe śreṣṭhatamaṃ kriyāsu. ambhobhir adya iha vasāma rājan nupoṣyatāṃ cāpi bhavadbhir adya ॥14-63-15॥
[अद्यैव (adyaiva) - today itself; नक्षत्रमहः (nakṣatramahaḥ) - auspicious lunar day ceremony; च (ca) - and; पुण्यं (puṇyam) - meritorious (rite); यतामहे (yatāmahe) - let us strive; श्रेष्ठतमं (śreṣṭhatamam) - the most excellent; क्रियासु (kriyāsu) - among (religious) rites; अम्भोभिः (ambhobhiḥ) - with waters; अद्य (adya) - today; इह (iha) - here; वसाम (vasāma) - let us dwell; राजन् (rājan) - O king; अनुपोष्यताम् (anupoṣyatām) - let (us) be properly fed; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; भवद्भिः (bhavadbhiḥ) - by you (pl.); अद्य (adya) - today;]
(Today itself, the auspicious lunar day ceremony and merit; let us strive for the most excellent among rites. With waters today here, let us dwell, O king; let (us) also be properly fed by you today.)

श्रुत्वा तु तेषां द्विजसत्तमानां; कृतोपवासा रजनीं नरेन्द्राः। ऊषुः प्रतीताः कुशसंस्तरेषु; यथाध्वरेषु ज्वलिता हव्यवाहाः ॥१४-६३-१६॥
śrutvā tu teṣāṃ dvijasattamānāṃ; kṛtopavāsā rajanīṃ narendrāḥ. ūṣuḥ pratītāḥ kuśasaṃstareṣu; yathādhvareṣu jvalitā havyavāhāḥ ॥14-63-16॥

(Having heard but of those most excellent twice-born, having completed the fast, the kings spent the night contentedly on beds of kuśa grass, just as in sacrifices the kindled fires (carriers of oblation).)

tato niśā sā vyagaman mahātmanāṃ; saṃśṛṇvatāṃ viprasamīritā giraḥ. tataḥ prabhāte vimale dvijarṣabhā; vaco'bruvan dharmasutaṃ narādhipam ॥14-63-17॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; निशा (niśā) - night; सा (sā) - that; व्यगमन् (vyagaman) - passed; महात्मनाम् (mahātmanām) - of the great-souled ones; संश्रृण्वताम् (saṃśṛṇvatām) - while hearing; विप्रसमीरिता (viprasamīritā) - uttered by the Brāhmaṇas; गिरः (giraḥ) - words; ततः (tataḥ) - then; प्रभाते (prabhāte) - at dawn; विमले (vimale) - clear; द्विजर्षभाः (dvijarṣabhāḥ) - the best of Brāhmaṇas; वचः (vacaḥ) - words; अब्रुवन् (abruvan) - spoke; धर्मसुतम् (dharmasutam) - to the son of Dharma; नराधिपम् (narādhipam) - king;]
(Then that night passed for the great-souled ones, while hearing words uttered by the Brāhmaṇas. Then at clear dawn, the best of Brāhmaṇas spoke words to the son of Dharma, the king.)
Thus, the night passed for the great-souled ones, as they listened to the words spoken by the Brāhmaṇas. Then, when the morning was clear, the foremost Brāhmaṇas addressed the son of Dharma, the king. (14-63-17)
