Vaiśampāyana said;
श्रुत्वा तु नृपतिर्वीरं पितरं बभ्रुवाहनः। निर्ययौ विनयेनार्यो ब्राह्मणार्घ्यपुरःसरः ॥१४-७८-१॥
śrutvā tu nṛpatir vīraṃ pitaraṃ babhravāhanaḥ। niryayau vinayenāryo brāhmaṇārghyapuraḥsaraḥ॥14-78-1॥
[श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; तु (tu) - but; नृपतिः (nṛpatiḥ) - the king; वीरं (vīram) - the hero; पितरं (pitaraṃ) - father; बभ्रुवाहनः (babhravāhanaḥ) - Babhrūvāhana; निर्ययौ (niryayau) - went out; विनयेन (vinayena) - with humility; आर्यः (āryaḥ) - the noble one; ब्राह्मण (brāhmaṇa) - the Brāhmaṇas; अर्घ्य (arghya) - with the arghya offering; पुरःसरः (puraḥsaraḥ) - at the forefront;]
(Having heard, but the king Babhrūvāhana, the hero, father, went out with humility, the noble one, with the Brāhmaṇas and the arghya offering at the forefront.)
But when he heard, King Babhrūvāhana, the heroic son, went out humbly, the noble one preceded by Brāhmaṇas carrying the arghya offering. (14-78-1)
मणिपूरेश्वरं त्वेवमुपयातं धनञ्जयः। नाभ्यनन्दत मेधावी क्षत्रधर्ममनुस्मरन् ॥१४-७८-२॥
maṇipūreśvaraṃ tvevamupayātaṃ dhanañjayaḥ। nābhyanandata medhāvī kṣatradharmamanusmaran ॥14-78-2॥

(The intelligent one, Dhanañjaya, having thus approached the lord of Maṇipura, did not welcome (him), recalling the duty of a kṣatriya.)
Thus, when Dhanañjaya (Arjuna), the intelligent one, approached the lord of Maṇipura, he did not welcome him, recalling the duty of a kṣatriya. (14-78-2)
उवाच चैनं धर्मात्मा समन्युः फल्गुनस्तदा। प्रक्रियेयं न ते युक्ता बहिस्त्वं क्षत्रधर्मतः ॥१४-७८-३॥
uvāca cainaṃ dharmātmā samanyuḥ phalgunas tadā। prakriyeyaṃ na te yuktā bahis tvaṃ kṣatradharmataḥ॥14-78-3॥
[उवाच (uvāca) - he said; च (ca) - and; एनम् (enam) - to him; धर्मात्मा (dharmātmā) - the righteous one; समन्युः (samanyuḥ) - the passionate (one); फल्गुनः (phalgunaḥ) - Phalguna (Arjuna); तदा (tadā) - then; प्रक्रिया (prakriyā) - this procedure; इयम् (iyam) - this; न (na) - not; ते (te) - for you; युक्ता (yuktā) - suitable; बहि (bahi) - outside; त्वम् (tvam) - you; क्षत्रधर्मतः (kṣatradharmataḥ) - from the duty of kṣatriya (warrior class);]
(He said and to him, the righteous passionate Phalguna (Arjuna) then: This procedure, this, is not suitable for you; you are outside from kṣatriya duty.)
Then the righteous and passionate Phalguna (Arjuna) said to him: "This procedure is not suitable for you; you are outside of the duty of a kṣatriya (warrior)." (14-78-3)
संरक्ष्यमाणं तुरगं यौधिष्ठिरमुपागतम्। यज्ञियं विषयान्ते मां नायोत्सीः किं नु पुत्रक ॥१४-७८-४॥
saṁrakṣyamāṇaṁ turagaṁ yauḍhiṣṭhiram upāgatam। yajñiyaṁ viṣayānte māṁ nāyotsīḥ kiṁ nu putraka ॥14-78-4॥
[संरक्ष्यमाणं (saṁrakṣyamāṇam) - being protected; तुरगं (turagam) - horse; यौधिष्ठिरम् (yauḍhiṣṭhiram) - relating to Yudhishthira; उपागतम् (upāgatam) - has come; यज्ञियं (yajñiyam) - of the sacrifice; विषयान्ते (viṣayānte) - at the end of the region; माम् (mām) - me; न (na) - not; आयोत्सीः (āyotsīḥ) - you should fight; किं (kiṁ) - why; नु (nu) - indeed; पुत्रक (putraka) - O son;]
(Being protected, the horse relating to Yudhishthira has come—of the sacrifice—at the end of the region—me—not you should fight—why indeed O son.)
O dear son, as the consecrated horse of Yudhishthira, being protected, has reached the border of the land, why indeed should you fight with me? (14-78-4)
धिक्त्वामस्तु सुदुर्बुद्धिं क्षत्रधर्माविशारदम्। यो मां युद्धाय सम्प्राप्तं साम्नैवाथो त्वमग्रहीः ॥१४-७८-५॥
dhik tvām astu sudurbuddhiṁ kṣatradharmāviśāradam। yo māṁ yuddhāya samprāptaṁ sāmnaiva atho tvam agrahīḥ ॥14-78-5॥
[धिक् (dhik) - fie; (an expression of reproach); त्वाम् (tvām) - you (accusative singular); अस्तु (astu) - let there be; सुदुर्बुद्धिं (sudurbuddhiṁ) - having extremely wicked intellect; क्षत्रधर्म-अविशारदम् (kṣatradharma-aviśāradam) - unskilled in the duty of warriors; यः (yaḥ) - who; माम् (mām) - me (accusative singular); युद्धाय (yuddhāya) - for battle; सम्प्राप्तम् (samprāptam) - having approached (having come); साम्ना (sāmnā) - with conciliation; एव (eva) - indeed; only; अथ (atho) - then; or; त्वम् (tvam) - you (nominative singular); अग्रहीः (agrahīḥ) - did seize; (second person singular perfect);]
(Fie upon you, let there be (reproach) upon you of extremely wicked intellect, unskilled in the warrior’s duty; who me, having come for battle, only with conciliation indeed, then you seized.)
Fie on you! You of exceedingly wicked mind, unskilled in the warrior’s duty—who seized me, when I came for battle, using only conciliation. (14-78-5)
न त्वया पुरुषार्थश्च कश्चिदस्तीह जीवता। यस्त्वं स्त्रीवद्युधा प्राप्तं साम्ना मां प्रत्यगृह्णथाः ॥१४-७८-६॥
na tvayā puruṣārthaś ca kaścid astīha jīvatā। yas tvaṃ strīvad yudhā prāptaṃ sāmnā māṃ pratyagṛhṇathāḥ॥14-78-6॥
[न (na) - not; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; पुरुषार्थः (puruṣārthaḥ) - manly effort; च (ca) - and; कश्चित् (kaścit) - any; अस्ति (asti) - is; इह (iha) - here; जीवता (jīvatā) - while living; यः (yaḥ) - who; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; स्त्रीवत् (strīvat) - like a woman; युधा (yudhā) - from battle; प्राप्तम् (prāptam) - attained; साम्ना (sāmnā) - by conciliation; माम् (mām) - me; प्रत्यगृह्णथाः (pratyagṛhṇathāḥ) - did accept;]
(Not by you is manly effort or any (such) here while living; (he) who, you, like a woman, did accept me, attained from battle, by conciliation.)
There is no manly effort in you or any such thing while you live; for you, like a woman, accepted me—won in battle—through conciliation. (14-78-6)
यद्यहं न्यस्तशस्त्रस्त्वामागच्छेयं सुदुर्मते। प्रक्रियेयं ततो युक्ता भवेत्तव नराधम ॥१४-७८-७॥
yadyahaṃ nyastaśastras-tvām-āgaccheyaṃ sudurmate. prakriye-'yaṃ tato yuktā bhavet-tava narādhama ॥14-78-7॥
[यदि (yadi) - if; अहं (ahaṃ) - I; न्यस्तशस्त्रः (nyastaśastraḥ) - having laid down arms; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; आगच्छेयं (āgaccheyaṃ) - should approach; सुदुर्मते (sudurmati) - O wicked-minded one; प्रक्रियेत् (prakriyet) - would proceed; अयं (ayaṃ) - this; ततः (tataḥ) - then; युक्ता (yuktā) - proper; भवेत् (bhavet) - it would be; तव (tava) - for you; नराधम (narādhama) - O vilest of men;]
(If I, having laid down arms, should approach you, O wicked-minded one, this would then be proper conduct for you, O vilest of men.)
If I were to approach you after laying down my arms, O wicked-minded one, then this action would be appropriate for you, O vilest of men. (14-78-7)
तमेवमुक्तं भर्त्रा तु विदित्वा पन्नगात्मजा। अमृष्यमाणा भित्त्वोर्वीमुलूपी तमुपागमत् ॥१४-७८-८॥
tam evam uktaṃ bhartrā tu viditvā pannagātmajā। amṛṣyamāṇā bhittvā urvīm ulūpī tam upāgamat॥14-78-8॥
[तम् (tam) - him; एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्तं (uktaṃ) - spoken; भर्त्रा (bhartrā) - by the husband; तु (tu) - but; विदित्वा (viditvā) - having understood; पन्नगात्मजा (pannagātmajā) - the daughter of the serpent (nāga); अमृष्यमाणा (amṛṣyamāṇā) - not enduring; भित्त्वा (bhittvā) - having pierced; उर्वीम् (urvīm) - the earth; उลूपी (ulūpī) - Ulūpī; तम् (tam) - to him; उपागमत् (upāgamat) - approached;]
(Him thus spoken by the husband but having understood, the daughter of the serpent, not enduring, having pierced the earth, Ulūpī to him approached.)
But when the daughter of the serpent, Ulūpī, understood him thus spoken to by her husband, unable to endure it, she pierced the earth and approached him. (14-78-8)
सा ददर्श ततः पुत्रं विमृशन्तमधोमुखम्। सन्तर्ज्यमानमसकृद्भर्त्रा युद्धार्थिना विभो ॥१४-७८-९॥
sā dadarśa tataḥ putraṁ vimṛśantam adhomukham। santarjyamānam asakṛd bhartṛā yuddhārthinā vibho ॥14-78-9॥
[सा (sā) - she; ददर्श (dadarśa) - saw; ततः (tataḥ) - then; पुत्रम् (putram) - son; विमृशन्तम् (vimṛśantam) - pondering; अधोमुखम् (adhomukham) - with face downcast; सन्तर्ज्यमानम् (santarjyamānam) - being reproached; असकृत् (asakṛt) - repeatedly; भर्त्रा (bhartṛā) - by (her) husband; युद्धार्थिना (yuddhārthinā) - desiring battle; विभो (vibho) - O lord;]
(She saw then the son, pondering, with face downcast, being reproached repeatedly by (her) husband, desiring battle, O lord.)
She then saw her son, pondering with his face downcast, being repeatedly rebuked by her husband, who was eager for battle, O lord. (14-78-9)
ततः सा चारुसर्वाङ्गी तमुपेत्योरगात्मजा। उलूपी प्राह वचनं क्षत्रधर्मविशारदा ॥१४-७८-१०॥
tataḥ sā cārusarvāṅgī tam upetya uragātmajā। ulūpī prāha vacanaṃ kṣatradharmaviśāradā ॥14-78-10॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; सा (sā) - she; चारुसर्वाङ्गी (cārusarvāṅgī) - having beautiful limbs; तम् (tam) - to him; उपेत्य (upetya) - having approached; उरगात्मजा (uragātmajā) - daughter of the serpent (Nāga); उलूपी (ulūpī) - Ulūpī; प्राह (prāha) - said; वचनम् (vacanam) - words; क्षत्रधर्मविशारदा (kṣatradharmaviśāradā) - well-versed in the law of the kṣatriya;]
(Then she, having beautiful limbs, having approached him, the daughter of the serpent, Ulūpī, well-versed in the law of the kṣatriya, said words.)
Then Ulūpī, the serpent's daughter, graceful in every limb and well-versed in the duties of a warrior, approached him and spoke these words. (14-78-10)
उलूपीं मां निबोध त्वं मातरं पन्नगात्मजाम्। कुरुष्व वचनं पुत्र धर्मस्ते भविता परः ॥१४-७८-११॥
ulūpīṃ māṃ nibodha tvaṃ mātaraṃ pannagātmajām। kuruṣva vacanaṃ putra dharmas te bhavitā paraḥ ॥14-78-11॥

"Know me, Ulūpī, as your mother, the daughter of the serpent. Do as I say, son; your duty will thus be supreme." (14-78-11)
युध्यस्वैनं कुरुश्रेष्ठं धनञ्जयमरिंदम। एवमेष हि ते प्रीतो भविष्यति न संशयः ॥१४-७८-१२॥
yudhyasvainam kuruśreṣṭhaṃ dhanañjayamariṃdama। evameṣa hi te prīto bhaviṣyati na saṃśayaḥ ॥14-78-12॥
[युध्यस्व (yudhyasva) - fight; engage in battle; एनं (enam) - this one; him; कुरुश्रेष्ठं (kuruśreṣṭham) - best of the Kurus; धनञ्जय (dhanañjaya) - Dhananjaya (Arjuna); अमरिंदम (ariṃdama) - subduer of enemies; एवम् (evam) - thus; in this way; एष (eṣa) - he; this; हि (hi) - indeed; surely; ते (te) - to you; प्रीतः (prīto) - pleased; satisfied; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - will become; will be; न (na) - not; संशयः (saṃśayaḥ) - doubt;]
(Fight this one, best of the Kurus, Dhananjaya, subduer of enemies. Thus he indeed will be pleased with you, no doubt.)
Fight him, O best of the Kurus, O Dhananjaya, subduer of enemies. In this way, he will surely be pleased with you, there is no doubt. (14-78-12)
एवमुद्धर्षितो मात्रा स राजा बभ्रुवाहनः। मनश्चक्रे महातेजा युद्धाय भरतर्षभ ॥१४-७८-१३॥
evam uddarṣito mātrā sa rājā babhruvāhanaḥ। manaś cakre mahātejā yuddhāya bharatarṣabha ॥14-78-13॥

(Thus encouraged by (his) mother, he, the king Babhruvāhana, O best of the Bharatas, possessed of great energy, made (his) mind for battle.)
Thus, O best of the Bharatas, the king Babhruvāhana, encouraged by his mother and endowed with great energy, resolved on battle. (14-78-13)
संनह्य काञ्चनं वर्म शिरस्त्राणं च भानुमत्। तूणीरशतसम्बाधमारुरोह महारथम् ॥१४-७८-१४॥
saṁnahya kāñcanaṁ varma śirastrāṇaṁ ca bhānumat। tūṇīra-śata-sambādhām āruroha mahā-ratham ॥14-78-14॥
[संनह्य (saṁnahya) - having put on; काञ्चनं (kāñcanam) - golden; वर्म (varma) - armor; शिरस्त्राणं (śirastrāṇam) - helmet; च (ca) - and; भानुमत् (bhānumat) - resplendent; तूणीरशतसम्बाधम् (tūṇīra-śata-sambādham) - crowded with hundreds of quivers; आुरोह (āruroha) - ascended; महारथम् (mahāratham) - great chariot;]
(Having put on the golden armor and also the resplendent helmet, (he) ascended the great chariot crowded with hundreds of quivers.)
Having donned golden armor and the radiant helmet, he ascended the great chariot filled with hundreds of quivers. (14-78-14)
सर्वोपकरणैर्युक्तं युक्तमश्वैर्मनोजवैः। सुचक्रोपस्करं धीमान्हेमभाण्डपरिष्कृतम् ॥१४-७८-१५॥
sarvopakaraṇairyuktaṃ yuktam aśvair manojavaiḥ। sucakropaskaraṃ dhīmān hemabhāṇḍapariṣkṛtam ॥14-78-15॥
[सर्वोपकरणैः (sarva-upakaraṇaiḥ) - with all implements; युक्तम् (yuktam) - equipped; युक्तम् (yuktam) - joined (to); अश्वैः (aśvaiḥ) - with horses; मनोजवैः (manojavaiḥ) - with speed like the mind; सुचक्रोपस्करम् (su-cakra-upaskaram) - with excellent wheels and fittings; धीमान् (dhīmān) - intelligent one; हेमभाण्डपरिष्कृतम् (hema-bhāṇḍa-pariṣkṛtam) - adorned with gold vessels;]
(Equipped with all implements, joined with horses of mind-like speed, with excellent wheels and fittings, the intelligent one, adorned with gold vessels.)
The intelligent one prepared (a chariot) fitted with all implements, harnessed with horses of mind-like speed, adorned with excellent wheels and fittings, and decorated with gold vessels. (14-78-15)
परमार्चितमुच्छ्रित्य ध्वजं सिंहं हिरण्मयम्। प्रययौ पार्थमुद्दिश्य स राजा बभ्रुवाहनः ॥१४-७८-१६॥
paramārcitam ucchritya dhvajaṁ siṁhaṁ hiraṇmayam। prayayau pārtham uddiśya sa rājā babhruvāhanaḥ ॥14-78-16॥
[परमार्चितम् (paramārcitam) - most-honored; most-revered; उच्छ्रित्य (ucchritya) - having hoisted; having raised; ध्वजं (dhvajam) - banner; standard; सिंहं (siṁham) - lion; हिरण्मयम् (hiraṇmayam) - golden; made of gold; प्रययौ (prayayau) - he went; he proceeded; पार्थम् (pārtham) - Arjuna; son of Pritha; उद्दिश्य (uddiśya) - aiming at; having as objective; सः (saḥ) - he; राजा (rājā) - king; बभ्रुवाहनः (babhruvāhanaḥ) - Babhruvahana;]
(Having hoisted the most-honored golden banner with a lion, aiming at Arjuna, that king Babhruvahana went.)
King Babhruvahana, having raised his most-honored golden banner adorned with a lion and aiming for Arjuna, set forth. (14-78-16)
ततोऽभ्येत्य हयं वीरो यज्ञियं पार्थरक्षितम्। ग्राहयामास पुरुषैर्हयशिक्षाविशारदैः ॥१४-७८-१७॥
tato'bhyetya hayaṃ vīro yajñiyaṃ pārtharakṣitam। grāhayām āsa puruṣair hayaśikṣāviśāradaiḥ ॥14-78-17॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; from that point; अभ्येत्य (abhyetya) - approaching; having come near; हयम् (hayam) - horse; वीरः (vīraḥ) - the hero; यज्ञियम् (yajñiyam) - sacrificial; fit for a sacrifice; पार्थरक्षितम् (pārtharakṣitam) - protected by Pārtha (Arjuna); ग्राहयाम् आस (grāhayām āsa) - caused to be seized; made to be taken; पुरुषैः (puruṣaiḥ) - by men; हयशिक्षाविशारदैः (hayaśikṣā-viśāradaiḥ) - who were expert in the science of horses;]
(Then, having approached the horse, the hero caused the sacrificial horse protected by Pārtha to be seized by men who were expert in the science of horses.)
Then, having come near, the hero had the sacrificial horse that was guarded by Pārtha seized by men expert in the science of horses. (14-78-17)
गृहीतं वाजिनं दृष्ट्वा प्रीतात्मा स धनञ्जयः। पुत्रं रथस्थं भूमिष्ठः संन्यवारयदाहवे ॥१४-७८-१८॥
gṛhītaṃ vājinaṃ dṛṣṭvā prītātmā sa dhanañjayaḥ। putraṃ rathasthaṃ bhūmiṣṭhaḥ saṃnyavārayadāhave ॥14-78-18॥

(Having seen the seized steed, delighted in spirit, that Dhananjaya, while standing on the ground, restrained the son standing on the chariot in battle.)
When he saw the seized horse, the delighted Dhananjaya (Arjuna), standing on the ground, restrained his son, who was on the chariot, in battle. (14-78-18)
ततः स राजा तं वीरं शरव्रातैः सहस्रशः। अर्दयामास निशितैराशीविषविषोपमैः ॥१४-७८-१९॥
tataḥ sa rājā taṃ vīraṃ śaravrātaiḥ sahasraśaḥ। ardayāmāsa niśitair āśīviṣaviṣopamaiḥ ॥14-78-19॥

तयोः समभवद्युद्धं पितुः पुत्रस्य चातुलम्। देवासुररणप्रख्यमुभयोः प्रीयमाणयोः ॥१४-७८-२०॥
tayoḥ samabhavadyuddhaṃ pituḥ putrasya cātulam। devāsuraraṇaprakhyamubhayoḥ prīyamāṇayoḥ ॥14-78-20॥

सोऽभ्यगात्सह पुङ्खेन वल्मीकमिव पन्नगः। विनिर्भिद्य च कौन्तेयं महीतलमथाविशत् ॥१४-७८-२२॥
so'bhygātsaha puṅkhena valmīkamiva pannagaḥ। vinirbhidya ca kaunteyaṃ mahītalamathāviśat ॥14-78-22॥

(He approached with the feathered end, like a serpent [approaches] an anthill; and after piercing through the son of Kunti and the earth's surface, then entered.)

स गाढवेदनो धीमानालम्ब्य धनुरुत्तमम्। दिव्यं तेजः समाविश्य प्रमीत इव सम्बभौ ॥१४-७८-२३॥

साधु साधु महाबाहो वत्स चित्राङ्गदात्मज। सदृशं कर्म ते दृष्ट्वा प्रीतिमानस्मि पुत्रक ॥१४-७८-२५॥

विमुञ्चाम्येष बाणांस्ते पुत्र युद्धे स्थिरो भव। इत्येवमुक्त्वा नाराचैरभ्यवर्षदमित्रहा ॥१४-७८-२६॥

(Those released from the Gāṇḍīva, having the lustre of thunderbolt and lightning, the king with iron arrows cut off all indeed, into three, into three.)
The king cut down with iron arrows all those shafts released from the Gāṇḍīva, shining like thunderbolts and lightning, each one into three pieces. (14-78-27)
तस्य पार्थः शरैर्दिव्यैर्ध्वजं हेमपरिष्कृतम्। सुवर्णतालप्रतिमं क्षुरेणापाहरद्रथात् ॥१४-७८-२८॥
tasya pārthaḥ śarair divyaiḥ dhvajaṃ hema-pariṣkṛtam। suvarṇa-tāla-pratimaṃ kṣureṇa apāharat rathāt॥14-78-28॥

हयांश्चास्य महाकायान्महावेगपराक्रमान्। चकार राज्ञो निर्जीवान्प्रहसन्पाण्डवर्षभः ॥१४-७८-२९॥
hayāṁś cāsya mahākāyān mahā-vega-parākrmān। cakāra rājño nirjīvān prahasan pāṇḍava-ṛṣabhaḥ॥14-78-29॥

(And the bull among the Pāṇḍavas, smiling, made the large-bodied, greatly swift and valorous horses of the king lifeless.)
Smiling, the foremost of the Pāṇḍavas struck down the king's large, swift, and powerful horses, leaving them lifeless. (14-78-29)
स रथादवतीर्याशु राजा परमकोपनः। पदातिः पितरं कोपाद्योधयामास पाण्डवम् ॥१४-७८-३०॥
sa rathād avatīryāśu rājā paramakopanaḥ। padātiḥ pitaraṃ kopād yodhayām āsa pāṇḍavam॥14-78-30॥

(Being pleased, the bull among the Pāṇḍavas, from the valor of (his) son, did not excessively afflict the son, the son of Vajradhara.)
Being pleased by his son’s valor, the leader of the Pāṇḍavas (Bhīmasena) did not torment his son, the son of Vajradhara, too greatly. (14-78-31)
स हन्यमानो विमुखं पितरं बभ्रुवाहनः। शरैराशीविषाकारैः पुनरेवार्दयद्बली ॥१४-७८-३२॥
sa hanyamānaḥ vimukhaṃ pitaraṃ babhruvāhanaḥ। śarair āśīviṣākāraiḥ punar eva ārdayad balī ॥14-78-32॥

Though being attacked, Babhruvāhana, the powerful, again tormented his father—who had turned away—with arrows shaped like poisonous snakes. (14-78-32)
ततः स बाल्यात्पितरं विव्याध हृदि पत्रिणा। निशितेन सुपुङ्खेन बलवद्बभ्रुवाहनः ॥१४-७८-३३॥
tataḥ sa bālyāt-pitaraṃ vivyādha hṛdi patriṇā। niśitena supuṅkhena balavad-babhruvāhanaḥ ॥14-78-33॥

That arrow, blazing with radiance and burning like fire, O king, entered the Pāṇḍava, piercing his vital part and causing immense pain. (14-78-34)
स तेनातिभृशं विद्धः पुत्रेण कुरुनन्दनः। महीं जगाम मोहार्तस्ततो राजन्धनञ्जयः ॥१४-७८-३५॥
sa tenātibhṛśaṁ viddhaḥ putreṇa kurunandanaḥ। mahīṁ jagāma mohārtastato rājan dhanañjayaḥ॥14-78-35॥

तस्मिन्निपतिते वीरे कौरवाणां धुरन्धरे। सोऽपि मोहं जगामाशु ततश्चित्राङ्गदासुतः ॥१४-७८-३६॥
tasmin nipatite vīre kauravāṇāṃ dhurandhare। so'pi mohaṃ jagāmāśu tataś citrāṅgadāsutaḥ॥14-78-36॥
