स तु वाजी समुद्रान्तां पर्येत्य पृथिवीमिमाम्। निवृत्तोऽभिमुखो राजन्येन नागाह्वयं पुरम् ॥१४-८३-१॥
sa tu vājī samudrāntāṃ paryetya pṛthivīm imām। nivṛtto'bhimukho rājanyena nāgāhvayaṃ puram ॥14-83-1॥
[स (sa) - he; तु (tu) - but; वाजी (vājī) - the horse; समुद्रान्ताम् (samudrāntām) - ending at the ocean; पर्येत्य (paryetyā) - having gone around; पृथिवीम् (pṛthivīm) - the earth; इमाम् (imām) - this; निवृत्तः (nivṛttaḥ) - returned; अभिमुखः (abhimukhaḥ) - facing towards; राजन्येन (rājanyena) - by the king; नागाह्वयम् (nāgāhvayam) - Nāgāhvaya (name of the city); पुरम् (puram) - city;]
(He but the horse, having gone around this earth ending at the ocean, returned facing toward the city Nāgāhvaya by the king.)
But he, the horse, after circling this earth bounded by the ocean, returned and came facing the city called Nāgāhvaya, led by the king. (14-83-1)
अनुगच्छंश्च तेजस्वी निवृत्तोऽथ किरीटभृत्। यदृच्छया समापेदे पुरं राजगृहं तदा ॥१४-८३-२॥
anugacchaṃś ca tejasvī nivṛtto'tha kirīṭabhṛt। yadṛcchayā samāpede puraṃ rājagṛhaṃ tadā ॥14-83-2॥
[अनुगच्छन् (anugacchan) - following; च (ca) - and; तेजस्वी (tejasvī) - the brilliant one; निवृत्तः (nivṛttaḥ) - having turned back; अथ (atha) - then; किरीटभृत् (kirīṭabhṛt) - the wearer of the diadem; यदृच्छया (yadṛcchayā) - by chance; समापेदे (samāpede) - arrived at; पुरम् (puram) - the city; राजगृहम् (rājagṛham) - Rājagṛha; तदा (tadā) - at that time;]
(Following, and the brilliant one having turned back then—the wearer of the diadem, by chance, arrived at the city Rājagṛha at that time.)
The brilliant wearer of the diadem, having turned back and following, then by chance arrived at the city of Rājagṛha at that time. (14-83-2)
तमभ्याशगतं राजा जरासन्धात्मजात्मजः। क्षत्रधर्मे स्थितो वीरः समरायाजुहाव ह ॥१४-८३-३॥
tam-abhyaśagataṃ rājā jarāsandhātmajātmajaḥ। kṣatradharme sthito vīraḥ samarāyājuhāva ha ॥14-83-3॥
[तम् (tam) - him; अभ्याशगतं (abhyaśagataṃ) - approached; to one who had drawn near; राजा (rājā) - the king; जरासन्धात्मजात्मजः (jarāsandhātmajātmajaḥ) - son of the son of Jarāsandha; क्षत्रधर्मे (kṣatradharme) - in the kṣatriya duty; स्थितः (sthitaḥ) - standing; established; वीरः (vīraḥ) - hero; समराय (samarāya) - for battle; आजुहाव (ājuhāva) - he challenged; he called (to fight); ह (ha) - indeed;]
(Him having approached, the king, the son of the son of Jarāsandha, standing in the kṣatriya duty, the hero, for battle, indeed, challenged.)
The king, son of Jarāsandha's son, who stood firmly in his kṣatriya duty, challenged him to battle as soon as he approached. (14-83-3)
ततः पुरात्स निष्क्रम्य रथी धन्वी शरी तली। मेघसन्धिः पदातिं तं धनञ्जयमुपाद्रवत् ॥१४-८३-४॥
tataḥ purāt sa niṣkramya rathī dhanvī śarī talī। meghasandhiḥ padātiṃ taṃ dhanañjayam upādravat ॥14-83-4॥

(Then from the city he, having come out, charioteer, archer, one with arrows, shield-bearer Meghasandhi, the infantryman him Dhananjaya approached.)
Then Meghasandhi, the charioteer and archer armed with arrows and shield, came out from the city and attacked Dhananjaya, who was on foot. (14-83-4)
आसाद्य च महातेजा मेघसन्धिर्धनञ्जयम्। बालभावान्महाराज प्रोवाचेदं न कौशलात् ॥१४-८३-५॥
āsādya ca mahāteja meghaṅdhiḥ dhanañjayam। bālabhāvāt mahārāja provāca idam na kauśalāt॥14-83-5॥
[आसाद्य (āsādya) - having approached; च (ca) - and; महातेजा (mahātejaḥ) - possessed of great energy; मेघसन्धिः (meghaṅdhiḥ) - Meghasandhi; (proper noun) धनञ्जयम् (dhanañjayam) - Dhananjaya; (Arjuna) बालभावात् (bālabhāvāt) - from childishness; महाराज (mahārāja) - O great king; प्रोवाच (provāca) - spoke; इदम् (idam) - this; न (na) - not; कौशलात् (kauśalāt) - out of skill;]
(Having approached, and Meghasandhi, possessed of great energy, (to) Dhananjaya, from childishness, O great king, spoke this not out of skill.)
Having approached Dhananjaya, O great king, Meghasandhi of great energy spoke these words not out of skill, but due to childishness. (14-83-5)
किमयं चार्यते वाजी स्त्रीमध्य इव भारत। हयमेनं हरिष्यामि प्रयतस्व विमोक्षणे ॥१४-८३-६॥
kim ayaṃ cāryate vājī strīmadhya iva bhārata। hayam enaṃ hariṣyāmi prayatasva vimokṣaṇe ॥14-83-6॥
[किम् (kim) - what; अयम् (ayam) - this; चार्यते (cāryate) - is driven; वाजी (vājī) - the horse; स्त्री-मध्य (strī-madhya) - in the midst of women; इव (iva) - as if; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata; हयम् (hayam) - the horse; एनम् (enam) - this; हरिष्यामि (hariṣyāmi) - I will carry off; प्रयतस्व (prayatasva) - strive; विमोक्षणे (vimokṣaṇe) - for liberation;]
(What this is driven, the horse, in the midst of women as if, O Bhārata. The horse, this, I will carry off; strive for liberation.)
O Bhārata, why is this horse being driven as if in the midst of women? I will carry off this horse; strive for its release. (14-83-6)
अदत्तानुनयो युद्धे यदि त्वं पितृभिर्मम। करिष्यामि तवातिथ्यं प्रहर प्रहरामि वा ॥१४-८३-७॥
adattānunayo yuddhe yadi tvaṃ pitṛbhir mama। kariṣyāmi tavātithyaṃ prahara praharāmi vā ॥14-83-7॥
[अदत्त-अनुनयः (adatta-anunayaḥ) - who has not received conciliation; युद्धे (yuddhe) - in battle; यदि (yadi) - if; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; पितृभिः (pitṛbhiḥ) - by fathers; मम (mama) - of mine; करिष्यामि (kariṣyāmi) - I shall do; तव (tava) - your; अतिथ्यम् (ātithyam) - hospitality; प्रहर (prahar) - strike; प्रहरामि (praharāmi) - I shall strike; वा (vā) - or;]
(Who has not received conciliation in battle, if you by my fathers, I shall do your hospitality; strike, or I shall strike.)
If, being unreconciled in battle, you come with my fathers, I shall offer you hospitality; strike, or I will strike. (14-83-7)
इत्युक्तः प्रत्युवाचैनं पाण्डवः प्रहसन्निव। विघ्नकर्ता मया वार्य इति मे व्रतमाहितम् ॥१४-८३-८॥
ityuktaḥ pratyuvācainaṃ pāṇḍavaḥ prahasanniva. vighnakartā mayā vārya iti me vratamāhitam॥14-83-8॥
[इति (iti) - thus; उक्तः (uktaḥ) - having been addressed; प्रत्युवाच (pratyuvāca) - replied; एनम् (enam) - to him; पाण्डवः (pāṇḍavaḥ) - Pāṇḍava (the son of Pandu); प्रहसन्निव (prahasanniva) - as if smiling; विघ्नकर्ता (vighnakartā) - one who causes obstacles; मया (mayā) - by me; वार्य (vārya) - to be restrained; इति (iti) - thus; मे (me) - my; व्रतम् (vratam) - vow; आहितम् (āhitam) - established;]
(Thus having been addressed, the Pāṇḍava replied to him as if smiling. The one who causes obstacles is to be restrained by me—the vow of mine is thus established.)
Having been thus addressed, the Pāṇḍava replied to him with a smile: "It is my established vow that I shall restrain anyone who creates obstacles." (14-83-8)
भ्रात्रा ज्येष्ठेन नृपते तवापि विदितं ध्रुवम्। प्रहरस्व यथाशक्ति न मन्युर्विद्यते मम ॥१४-८३-९॥
bhrātrā jyeṣṭhena nṛpate tavāpi viditaṁ dhruvam। praharasva yathāśakti na manyurvidyate mama॥14-83-9॥
[भ्रात्रा (bhrātrā) - by the brother; ज्येष्ठेन (jyeṣṭhena) - the elder; नृपते (nṛpate) - O king; तवापि (tavāpi) - of you also; विदितं (viditaṁ) - known; ध्रुवम् (dhruvam) - certainly; प्रहरस्व (praharasva) - strike; यथाशक्ति (yathāśakti) - according to strength; न (na) - not; मन्युः (manyuḥ) - anger; विद्यते (vidyate) - exists; मम (mama) - in me;]
(By the elder brother, O king, of you also, (it is) certainly known. Strike according to (your) strength, not anger exists in me.)
O king, your elder brother certainly knows it also. Strike as much as you are able; there is no anger in me. (14-83-9)
इत्युक्तः प्राहरत्पूर्वं पाण्डवं मगधेश्वरः। किरञ्शरसहस्राणि वर्षाणीव सहस्रदृक् ॥१४-८३-१०॥

(Thus addressed, the king of Magadha struck first the Pāṇḍava, scattering thousands of arrows like showers, having a thousand eyes.)

ततो गाण्डीवभृच्छूरो गाण्डीवप्रेषितैः शरैः। चकार मोघांस्तान्बाणानयत्नाद्भरतर्षभ ॥१४-८३-११॥
tato gāṇḍīvabhṛc chūro gāṇḍīvapreṣitaiḥ śaraiḥ। cakāra moghāṁs tān bāṇān ayatnād bharatarṣabha ॥14-83-11॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; गाण्डीवभृत् (gāṇḍīvabhṛt) - the wielder of Gandiva (Arjuna); शूरः (śūraḥ) - hero; गाण्डीवप्रेषितैः (gāṇḍīvapreṣitaiḥ) - discharged from Gandiva; शरैः (śaraiḥ) - with arrows; चकार (cakāra) - made; मोग्हान् (moghān) - fruitless; तान् (tān) - those; बाणान् (bāṇān) - arrows; अयत्नात् (ayatnāt) - easily; without effort; भरतरर्षभ (bharatarṣabha) - O best of the Bharatas;]
(Then the hero wielding the Gandiva, with arrows discharged from the Gandiva, made those arrows fruitless easily, O best of the Bharatas.)
Then, O best of the Bharatas, the hero who wields the Gandiva easily rendered those arrows fired from the Gandiva fruitless.
स मोघं तस्य बाणौघं कृत्वा वानरकेतनः। शरान्मुमोच ज्वलितान्दीप्तास्यानिव पन्नगान् ॥१४-८३-१२॥
sa moghaṃ tasya bāṇaughaṃ kṛtvā vānarakētanaḥ। śarān mumōca jvalitān dīptāsyān iva pannagān ॥14-83-12॥
[स (sa) (sa) - he; मोघं (mogham) (mogham) - in vain; तस्य (tasya) (tasya) - his; बाणौघं (bāṇaugham) (bāṇaugham) - arrow-host; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) (kṛtvā) - having made; वानरकेतनः (vānarakētanaḥ) (vānarakētanaḥ) - the banner of monkeys (epithet); शरान् (śarān) (śarān) - arrows; मुमोच (mumōca) (mumoca) - released; ज्वलितान् (jvalitān) (jvalitān) - burning; दीप्तास्यान् (dīptāsyān) (dīptāsyān) - with blazing mouths; इव (iva) (iva) - like; पन्नगान् (pannagān) (pannagān) - serpents;]
(He, having rendered his host of arrows vain, the banner of monkeys, released burning arrows like serpents with blazing mouths.)

ध्वजे पताकादण्डेषु रथयन्त्रे हयेषु च। अन्येषु च रथाङ्गेषु न शरीरे न सारथौ ॥१४-८३-१३॥
dhvaje patākādaṇḍeṣu rathayantrae hayeṣu ca। anyeṣu ca rathāṅgeṣu na śarīre na sārathau॥14-83-13॥
[ध्वजे (dhvaje) - on the flagstaff; पताकादण्डेषु (patākādaṇḍeṣu) - on the banner poles; रथयन्त्रे (rathayantrae) - on the chariot mechanism; हयेषु (hayeṣu) - on the horses; च (ca) - and; अन्येषु (anyeṣu) - on others; च (ca) - and; रथाङ्गेषु (rathāṅgeṣu) - on the chariot parts; न (na) - not; शरीरे (śarīre) - on the body; न (na) - not; सारथौ (sārathau) - on the charioteer;]
(On the flagstaff, on the banner poles, on the chariot mechanism, on the horses and on other chariot parts, not on the body, not on the charioteer.)

संरक्ष्यमाणः पार्थेन शरीरे फल्गुनस्य ह। मन्यमानः स्ववीर्यं तन्मागधः प्राहिणोच्छरान् ॥१४-८३-१४॥
saṁrakṣyamāṇaḥ pārthena śarīre phalgunasya ha। manyamānaḥ svavīryaṁ tanmāgadhaḥ prāhiṇoc charān ॥14-83-14॥
[संरक्ष्यमाणः (saṁrakṣyamāṇaḥ) - being protected; पार्थेन (pārthena) - by Pārtha (Arjuna); शरीरे (śarīre) - in the body; फल्गुनस्य (phalgunasya) - of Phalguna (Arjuna); ह (ha) - indeed; मन्यमानः (manyamānaḥ) - thinking; स्ववीर्यं (svavīryaṁ) - his own strength; तन् (tan) - then; मागधः (māgadhaḥ) - the King of Magadha; प्राहिणोत् (prāhiṇot) - sent; शरान् (charān) - scouts (spies);]
(Being protected by Pārtha in the body of Phalguna indeed, thinking his own strength then the Māgadha sent scouts.)
While being protected by Arjuna in Phalguna's body, the King of Magadha, considering his own strength, then sent out scouts. (14-83-14)
ततो गाण्डीवभृच्छूरो मागधेन समाहतः। बभौ वासन्तिक इव पलाशः पुष्पितो महान् ॥१४-८३-१५॥
tato gāṇḍīvabhṛcchūro māgadhena samāhataḥ। babhau vāsantika iva palāśaḥ puṣpito mahān ॥14-83-15॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; गाण्डीवभृत् (gāṇḍīvabhṛt) - the bearer of Gāṇḍīva bow; शूरः (śūraḥ) - the hero; मागधेन (māgadhena) - by the Magadhan (king); समाहतः (samāhataḥ) - struck; बभौ (babhau) - shone; वासन्तिक (vāsantika) - vernal; इव (iva) - like; पलाशः (palāśaḥ) - palāśa tree; पुष्पितः (puṣpitaḥ) - blossomed; महान् (mahān) - great;]
(Then the hero bearing the Gāṇḍīva, struck by the Magadhan, shone like a great blossomed palāśa tree in spring.)
Then the hero bearing the Gāṇḍīva bow, struck by the king of Magadha, shone like a great palāśa tree blossoming in spring. (14-83-15)
अवध्यमानः सोऽभ्यघ्नन्मागधः पाण्डवर्षभम्। तेन तस्थौ स कौरव्य लोकवीरस्य दर्शने ॥१४-८३-१६॥
avadhyamānaḥ so'bhighnan māgadhaḥ pāṇḍavarṣabham। tena tasthau sa kauravya lokavīrasya darśane ॥14-83-16॥
[अवध्यमानः (avadhyamānaḥ) - resisting; withstanding; सः (saḥ) - he; अभ्यघ्नन् (abhyaghnan) - was striking; मागधः (māgadhaḥ) - the Māgadha (king); पाण्डवर्षभम् (pāṇḍavarṣabham) - the bull among Pāṇḍavas; तेन (tena) - by him; तस्थौ (tasthau) - stood; remained; सः (saḥ) - he; कौरव्य (kauravya) - O descendant of Kuru; लोकवीरस्य (lokavīrasya) - of the hero of the world; दर्शने (darśane) - in the sight (of);]
(Resisting he was striking the Māgadha (king) the bull among Pāṇḍavas. By him stood he, O Kauravya, in the sight of the hero of the world. (14-83-16))
He, while resisting, was striking the Māgadha king, the bull among the Pāṇḍavas. Because of that, O Kauravya, he stood in the presence of the hero renowned in the world. (14-83-16)
सव्यसाची तु सङ्क्रुद्धो विकृष्य बलवद्धनुः। हयांश्चकार निर्देहान्सारथेश्च शिरोऽहरत् ॥१४-८३-१७॥
savyasācī tu saṅkruddho vikṛṣya balavaddhanuḥ। hayāṁś cakāra nirdehān sārathes ca śiro'harat॥14-83-17॥
[सव्यसाची (savyasācī) - ambidextrous archer; तु (tu) - but; सङ्क्रुद्धः (saṅkruddhaḥ) - very enraged; विकृष्य (vikṛṣya) - having drawn (the bow); बलवद्धनुः (balavaddhanuḥ) - strong bow; हयान् (hayān) - horses; चकार (cakāra) - he made; निर्देहान् (nirdehān) - lifeless; सारथेः (sāratheḥ) - of the charioteer; च (ca) - and; शिरः (śiraḥ) - head; अहरत् (aharat) - he cut off;]
(Savyasachi but, very enraged, having drawn the strong bow, horses he made lifeless, and of the charioteer the head he cut off.)
But Savyasachi, greatly enraged, drew his powerful bow, made the horses lifeless, and struck off the charioteer's head. (14-83-17)
धनुश्चास्य महच्चित्रं क्षुरेण प्रचकर्त ह। हस्तावापं पताकां च ध्वजं चास्य न्यपातयत् ॥१४-८३-१८॥
dhanuś cāsya mahac citraṁ kṣureṇa pracakarta ha. hastāvāpaṁ patākāṁ ca dhvajaṁ cāsya nyapātayat ॥14-83-18॥
[धनुः (dhanuḥ) - bow; च (ca) - and; अस्य (asya) - his; महच्चित्रं (mahac citram) - great and decorated; क्षुरेण (kṣureṇa) - with a razor-headed (arrow); प्रचकर्त (pracakarta) - he cut off; ह (ha) - indeed; हस्तावापं (hastāvāpam) - quiver; पताकां (patākām) - flag; च (ca) - and; ध्वजं (dhvajam) - banner; च (ca) - and; अस्य (asya) - his; न्यपातयत् (nyapātayat) - he caused to fall;]
(Bow and his great decorated (bow) with a razor-headed (arrow) he cut off indeed. Quiver, flag and banner and his he caused to fall.)
He indeed cut off his great decorated bow with a razor-headed arrow, and caused his quiver, flag, and banner to fall. (14-83-18)
स राजा व्यथितो व्यश्वो विधनुर्हतसारथिः। गदामादाय कौन्तेयमभिदुद्राव वेगवान् ॥१४-८३-१९॥
sa rājā vyathito vyaśvo vidhanur hatasārathiḥ। gadām ādāya kaunteyam abhidudrāva vegavān ॥14-83-19॥
[स (sa) - he; राजा (rājā) - king; व्यथितः (vyathitaḥ) - distressed; व्यश्वः (vyaśvaḥ) - without horses; विधानुः (vidhanuḥ) - without bow; हतसारथिः (hata-sārathiḥ) - with (his) charioteer slain; गदाम् (gadām) - the mace; आदाय (ādāya) - having taken; कौन्तेयम् (kaunteyam) - against the son of Kunti; अभिदुद्राव (abhidudrāva) - rushed toward; वेगवान् (vegavān) - swiftly;]
(He king distressed, without horses, without bow, with charioteer slain, having taken the mace, at Kunti's son rushed swiftly.)
The king, distressed, bereft of horses and bow, with his charioteer slain, seized his mace and rushed swiftly at the son of Kunti. (14-83-19)
तस्यापतत एवाशु गदां हेमपरिष्कृताम्। शरैश्चकर्त बहुधा बहुभिर्गृध्रवाजितैः ॥१४-८३-२०॥
tasyāpatata evāśu gadāṃ hemapariṣkṛtām। śaraiś cakarta bahudhā bahubhir gṛdhravājitaiḥ॥14-83-20॥
[तस्य (tasya) - of him; अपतत (apatat) - was falling; एव (eva) - indeed; आशु (āśu) - quickly; गदां (gadām) - mace; हेमपरिष्कृताम् (hema-pariṣkṛtām) - adorned with gold; शरैः (śaraiḥ) - with arrows; चकर्त (cakarta) - he cut; बहुधा (bahudhā) - in many ways; बहुभिः (bahubhiḥ) - with many; गृध्रवाजितैः (gṛdhra-vājitaiḥ) - swift as a vulture;]
(Of him, the quickly falling mace adorned with gold, he cut with many arrows, in many ways, with many (arrows) as swift as a vulture.)
As his mace adorned with gold was quickly falling from him, he cut it in many pieces with many vulture-swift arrows. (14-83-20)
सा गदा शकलीभूता विशीर्णमणिबन्धना। व्याली निर्मुच्यमानेव पपातास्य सहस्रधा ॥१४-८३-२१॥
sā gadā śakalībhūtā viśīrṇa-maṇibandhanā। vyālī nirmucyamānevapapātāsya sahasradhā ॥14-83-21॥

(Deprived of chariot, him, deprived of bow, by (the) mace, set apart, not wished to strike, the wise Arjuna, foremost in battle.)
The wise Arjuna, foremost in battle, did not wish to strike him, who was deprived of his chariot and bow, and set apart by the mace. (14-83-22)
तत एनं विमनसं क्षत्रधर्मे समास्थितम्। सान्त्वपूर्वमिदं वाक्यमब्रवीत्कपिकेतनः ॥१४-८३-२३॥
tat enaṁ vimanasaṁ kṣatradharme samāsthitam। sāntvapūrvam idaṁ vākyam abravīt kapikētanaḥ ॥14-83-23॥

पर्याप्तः क्षत्रधर्मोऽयं दर्शितः पुत्र गम्यताम्। बह्वेतत्समरे कर्म तव बालस्य पार्थिव ॥१४-८३-२४॥
paryāptaḥ kṣatradharmo'yaṃ darśitaḥ putra gamyatām। bahvetatsamare karma tava bālasya pārthiva ॥14-83-24॥

(Sufficient is the kṣatriya duty; this has been shown, O son, let him go. Much is this action in battle for your boy, O king. (14-83-24))

युधिष्ठिरस्य संदेशो न हन्तव्या नृपा इति। तेन जीवसि राजंस्त्वमपराद्धोऽपि मे रणे ॥१४-८३-२५॥
yudhiṣṭhirasya saṃdeśo na hantavyā nṛpā iti। tena jīvasi rājaṃstvamaparāddho'pi me raṇe ॥14-83-25॥
[युधिष्ठिरस्य (yudhiṣṭhirasya) - of Yudhiṣṭhira; संदेशः (saṃdeśaḥ) - command; न (na) - not; हन्तव्याः (hantavyāḥ) - to be killed; नृपाः (nṛpāḥ) - kings; इति (iti) - thus; तेन (tena) - by that; जीवसि (jīvasi) - you live; राजन् (rājan) - O king; त्वम् (tvam) - you; अपराद्धः (aparāddhaḥ) - offended; अपि (api) - even; मे (me) - by me; रणे (raṇe) - in battle;]
(Yudhiṣṭhira's command: not to be killed are kings, thus. By that, you live, O king, you, having offended, even, by me, in battle.)
Yudhiṣṭhira's command is that kings should not be killed. Therefore, O king, even though you have offended me in battle, you live. (14-83-25)
इति मत्वा स चात्मानं प्रत्यादिष्टं स्म मागधः। तथ्यमित्यवगम्यैनं प्राञ्जलिः प्रत्यपूजयत् ॥१४-८३-२६॥
iti matvā sa ca ātmānaṃ pratyādiṣṭaṃ sma māgadhaḥ. tathyam iti avagamya enam prāñjaliḥ pratyapūjayat ॥14-83-26॥
[इति (iti) - thus; मत्वा (matvā) - having thought; स (sa) - he; च (ca) - and; आत्मानं (ātmānam) - oneself; प्रत्यादिष्टं (pratyādiṣṭam) - commanded; स्म (sma) - indeed; मागधः (māgadhaḥ) - the Magadha (person from Magadha); तथ्यम् (tathyam) - true; इति (iti) - thus; अवगम्य (avagamya) - having understood; एनम् (enam) - him; प्राञ्जलिः (prāñjaliḥ) - with joined palms; प्रत्यपूजयत् (pratyapūjayat) - showed respect (worshipped);]
(Thus having thought, he and himself as commanded indeed, the Magadha. True thus having understood him, with joined palms, (he) showed respect.)
Having thought thus, and realizing himself to have been commanded in this way, the Magadhan indeed, having understood (it) as true, respectfully greeted him with joined palms. (14-83-26)
तमर्जुनः समाश्वास्य पुनरेवेदमब्रवीत्। आगन्तव्यं परां चैत्रीमश्वमेधे नृपस्य नः ॥१४-८३-२७॥
tam arjunaḥ samāśvāsya punar eva idam abravīt। āgantavyaṁ parāṁ caitrīm aśvamedhe nṛpasya naḥ॥14-83-27॥
[तम् (tam) - him; अर्जुनः (arjunaḥ) - Arjuna; समाश्वास्य (samāśvāsya) - having consoled; पुनः (punar) - again; एव (eva) - indeed; इदम् (idam) - this; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; आगन्तव्यं (āgantavyam) - should come; पराम् (parām) - supreme; चैत्रीम् (caitrīm) - of Caitra (month); अश्वमेधे (aśvamedhe) - at the horse sacrifice; नृपस्य (nṛpasya) - of the king; नः (naḥ) - to us;]
(Him Arjuna having consoled again indeed this said: should come supreme Caitra at the horse sacrifice of the king to us.)
Having consoled him, Arjuna again said this: "You should certainly come to us at the king's great horse sacrifice in the month of Caitra." (14-83-27)
इत्युक्तः स तथेत्युक्त्वा पूजयामास तं हयम्। फल्गुनं च युधां श्रेष्ठं विधिवत्सहदेवजः ॥१४-८३-२८॥
ity uktaḥ sa tathety uktvā pūjayāmāsa taṃ hayam| phalgunaṃ ca yudhāṃ śreṣṭhaṃ vidhivat sahadevajaḥ ॥14-83-28॥

(Thus addressed, he, having said 'so be it', worshipped that horse, and Phalguna, best of warriors, according to rule, (the) son of Sahadeva.)
Thus spoken to, he replied 'So be it,' and the son of Sahadeva worshipped that horse and Phalguna, the best of warriors, according to rule. (14-83-28)
ततो यथेष्टमगमत्पुनरेव स केसरी। ततः समुद्रतीरेण वङ्गान्पुण्ड्रान्सकेरलान् ॥१४-८३-२९॥
tato yatheṣṭamagamat punareva sa kesarī. tataḥ samudratīreṇa vaṅgān puṇḍrān sakeralān ॥14-83-29॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; यथेष्टम् (yatheṣṭam) - as he wished; अगमत् (agamat) - he went; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; एव (eva) - indeed; स (sa) - he; केसरी (kesarī) - Kesari; ततः (tataḥ) - then; समुद्रतीरेण (samudratīreṇa) - along the seashore; वङ्गान् (vaṅgān) - the Vanga people; पुण्ड्रान् (puṇḍrān) - the Pundra people; सकेरलान् (sakeralān) - together with the Keralas;]
(Then, as he wished, he went again indeed, that Kesari. Then along the seashore (he went to) the Vangas, the Pundras, together with the Keralas.)

तत्र तत्र च भूरीणि म्लेच्छसैन्यान्यनेकशः। विजिग्ये धनुषा राजन्गाण्डीवेन धनञ्जयः ॥१४-८३-३०॥
tatra tatra ca bhūriṇi mleccha-sainyāni anekaśaḥ। vijigye dhanuṣā rājan gāṇḍīvena dhanañjayaḥ॥14-83-30॥
