(Being unable to tolerate, those warriors of the king, of Śakuni, the slaying, approached together Pārtha, having taken up their bows.)
Unable to bear the slaying of Śakuni, those warriors of the king, all together with bows in hand, approached Pārtha. (14-85-2)
तानुवाच स धर्मात्मा बीभत्सुरपराजितः। युधिष्ठिरस्य वचनं न च ते जगृहुर्हितम् ॥१४-८५-३॥
tān uvāca sa dharmātmā bībhatsur aparājitaḥ। yudhiṣṭhirasya vacanaṃ na ca te jagṛhur hitam ॥14-85-3॥

(Them spoke he, the righteous-souled, the unconquered Bībhatsu; of Yudhiṣṭhira the words not and they accepted beneficial.)
He, the righteous and unconquered Bībhatsu, spoke to them; but they did not accept the beneficial words of Yudhiṣṭhira. (14-85-3)
वार्यमाणास्तु पार्थेन सान्त्वपूर्वममर्षिताः। परिवार्य हयं जग्मुस्ततश्चुक्रोध पाण्डवः ॥१४-८५-४॥
vāryamāṇās tu pārthena sāntvapūrvam amarṣitāḥ। parivārya hayaṃ jagmus tataś cukrodha pāṇḍavaḥ॥14-85-4॥
[वार्यमाणाः (vāryamāṇāḥ) - being restrained; तु (tu) - but; पार्थेन (pārthena) - by Pārtha; सान्त्वपूर्वम् (sāntvapūrvam) - with conciliatory words before (with prior conciliation); अमर्षिताः (amarṣitāḥ) - angered; परिवार्य (parivārya) - having surrounded; हयम् (hayam) - the horse; जग्मुः (jagmuḥ) - they went; ततः (tataḥ) - then; चुक्रोध (cukrodha) - became angry; पाण्डवः (pāṇḍavaḥ) - the son of Pāṇḍu (Pāṇḍava);]
(But being restrained by Pārtha with conciliatory words beforehand, yet angered, having surrounded the horse they went; then the Pāṇḍava became angry.)
But though restrained by Pārtha with conciliatory words, they became angry, and having surrounded the horse, went away; then the Pāṇḍava became angry. (14-85-4)
ततः शिरांसि दीप्ताग्रैस्तेषां चिच्छेद पाण्डवः। क्षुरैर्गाण्डीवनिर्मुक्तैर्नातियत्नादिवार्जुनः ॥१४-८५-५॥
tataḥ śirāṃsi dīptāgraiḥ teṣāṃ ciccheda pāṇḍavaḥ। kṣuraiḥ gāṇḍīva-nirmuktaiḥ na ati-yatnāt iva arjunaḥ॥14-85-5॥

(Then the son of Pāṇḍu cut off their heads with blazing-tipped, razor-headed (arrows) loosed from the Gāṇḍīva, not as if with great effort, Arjuna.)
Then Arjuna, the son of Pāṇḍu, cut off their heads with blazing-tipped, razor-headed arrows shot from the Gāṇḍīva bow, almost without much effort. (14-85-5)
ते वध्यमानाः पार्थेन हयमुत्सृज्य सम्भ्रमात्। न्यवर्तन्त महाराज शरवर्षार्दिता भृशम् ॥१४-८५-६॥
te vadhyamānāḥ pārthena hayam utsṛjya sambhramāt। nyavartanta mahārāja śaravarṣārditā bhṛśam ॥14-85-6॥
[ते (te) - they; वध्यमानाः (vadhyamānāḥ) - being slain; पार्थेन (pārthena) - by Pārtha; हयम् (hayam) - horse; उत्सृज्य (utsṛjya) - abandoning; सम्भ्रमात् (sambhramāt) - from confusion; न्यवर्तन्त (nyavartanta) - turned back; महाराज (mahārāja) - O great king; शरवर्षार्दिता (śaravarṣārditā) - afflicted by showers of arrows; भृशम् (bhṛśam) - severely;]
(They, being slain by Pārtha, abandoning the horse due to confusion, turned back, O great king, severely afflicted by showers of arrows.)
O great king, as they were being struck down by Pārtha, they abandoned their horse in confusion and turned back, greatly afflicted by the showers of arrows. (14-85-6)
वितुद्यमानस्तैश्चापि गान्धारैः पाण्डवर्षभः। आदिश्यादिश्य तेजस्वी शिरांस्येषां न्यपातयत् ॥१४-८५-७॥
vitudyamānaḥ taiś cāpi gāndhāraiḥ pāṇḍavaṛṣabhaḥ। ādiśyādiśya tejasvī śirāṃsy eṣāṃ nyapātayat ॥14-85-7॥
[वितुद्यमानः (vitudyamānaḥ) - being attacked; तैः (taiḥ) - by them; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; गान्धारैः (gāndhāraiḥ) - by the Gandharas; पाण्डवर्षभः (pāṇḍavaṛṣabhaḥ) - the bull among the Pandavas; आदिश्य (ādiśya) - having ordered (attacked/struck repeatedly); आदिश्य (ādiśya) - having ordered (attacked/struck repeatedly); तेजस्वी (tejasvī) - the powerful one; शिरांसि (śirāṃsi) - heads; एषाम् (eṣām) - of these (Gandharas); न्यपातयत् (nyapātayat) - struck down;]
(Being attacked by them and also by the Gandharas, the bull among the Pandavas, having struck again and again, the powerful one struck down their heads.)
Though assaulted by them and also by the Gandharas, the powerful bull among the Pandavas repeatedly struck, and he cut off the heads of these foes. (14-85-7)
वध्यमानेषु तेष्वाजौ गान्धारेषु समन्ततः। स राजा शकुनेः पुत्रः पाण्डवं प्रत्यवारयत् ॥१४-८५-८॥
vadhyamāneṣu teṣv ājau gāndhāreṣu samantataḥ। sa rājā śakuneḥ putraḥ pāṇḍavaṃ pratyavārayat॥14-85-8॥
[वध्यमानेषु (vadhyamāneṣu) - while being killed; तेषु (teṣu) - among them; आजौ (ājau) - in the battle; गान्धारेषु (gāndhāreṣu) - among the Gandharas; समन्ततः (samantataḥ) - on all sides; स (sa) - he; राजा (rājā) - the king; शकुनेः (śakuneḥ) - of Shakuni; पुत्रः (putraḥ) - the son; पाण्डवं (pāṇḍavam) - (towards) the Pandava; प्रत्यवारयत् (pratyavārayat) - opposed;]
(While they were being killed in battle among the Gandharas on all sides, he, the king, the son of Shakuni, opposed the Pandava.)
While the Gandharas were being slain on all sides in battle, he, the king, son of Shakuni, confronted the Pandava. (14-85-8)
तं युध्यमानं राजानं क्षत्रधर्मे व्यवस्थितम्। पार्थोऽब्रवीन्न मे वध्या राजानो राजशासनात् ॥ अलं युद्धेन ते वीर न तेऽस्त्यद्य पराजयः ॥१४-८५-९॥
taṃ yudhyamānaṃ rājānaṃ kṣatradharme vyavasthitam। pārtho'bravīn na me vadhyā rājāno rājaśāsanāt॥ alaṃ yuddhena te vīra na te'styadya parājayaḥ॥14-85-9॥
[तं (taṃ) - him; युध्यमानं (yudhyamānam) - fighting; राजानं (rājānam) - king; क्षत्रधर्मे (kṣatradharme) - in the duty of kṣatriya; व्यवस्थितम् (vyavasthitam) - established; पार्थः (pārthaḥ) - Pārtha; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; न (na) - not; मे (me) - for me; वध्याः (vadhyāḥ) - to be slain; राजानः (rājānaḥ) - kings; राजशासनात् (rājaśāsanāt) - from royal authority; अलम् (alam) - enough; युद्धेन (yuddhena) - with battle; ते (te) - for you; वीर (vīra) - hero; न (na) - not; ते (te) - for you; अद्य (adya) - today; पराजयः (parājayaḥ) - defeat;]
(Him fighting, king, in the duty of kṣatriya, established; Pārtha said: not for me to be slain, kings from royal authority. Enough with battle for you, hero, not for you today is defeat. (14-85-9))
Seeing the king who was fighting, steadfast in the kṣatriya duty, Pārtha said: "Kings are not to be slain by me by royal decree. Enough of battle for you, O hero—today there is no defeat for you." (14-85-9)
इत्युक्तस्तदनादृत्य वाक्यमज्ञानमोहितः। स शक्रसमकर्माणमवाकिरत सायकैः ॥१४-८५-१०॥
ity-uktas tad-anādṛtya vākyam ajñāna-mohitaḥ। sa śakra-samakarmāṇam avākirata sāyakaiḥ॥14-85-10॥
[इति-उक्तः (iti-uktaḥ) - thus addressed; तत्-अनादृत्य (tat-anādṛtya) - that (speech) disregarding; वाक्यम् (vākyam) - speech; अज्ञान-मोहितः (ajñāna-mohitaḥ) - deluded by ignorance; सः (saḥ) - he; शक्र-सम-कर्माणम् (śakra-sama-karmāṇam) - having deeds equal to Indra; अवाकिरत (avākirata) - showered; सायकैः (sāyakaiḥ) - with arrows;]
(Thus addressed, disregarding that speech, deluded by ignorance, he showered (arrows) with arrows upon one whose deeds were equal to Indra.)
When thus addressed, he ignored those words, and, being deluded by ignorance, he showered arrows at the one whose actions were equal to Indra. (14-85-10)
तस्य पार्थः शिरस्त्राणमर्धचन्द्रेण पत्रिणा। अपाहरदसम्भ्रान्तो जयद्रथशिरो यथा ॥१४-८५-११॥
tasya pārthaḥ śirastrāṇam ardhacandreṇa patriṇā। apāharad asambhrānto jayadrathaśiro yathā ॥14-85-11॥
[तस्य (tasya) - of him; पार्थः (pārthaḥ) - Pārtha (Arjuna); शिरस्त्राणम् (śirastrāṇam) - helmet; अर्धचन्द्रेण (ardhacandreṇa) - with the half-moon (shaped); पत्रिणा (patriṇā) - with the (feathered) arrow; अपाहरत् (apāharat) - removed; असम्भ्रान्तः (asambhrāntaḥ) - unagitated; जयद्रथशिरो (jayadrathaśiro) - Jayadratha's head; यथा (yathā) - just as;]
(Of him, Pārtha removed the helmet with a half-moon-shaped (feathered) arrow, unagitated, just as (he had removed) Jayadratha’s head.)
Pārtha (Arjuna), unagitated, removed his helmet with a half-moon-shaped arrow, just as he had previously cut off Jayadratha's head. (14-85-11)
तद्दृष्ट्वा विस्मयं जग्मुर्गान्धाराः सर्व एव ते। इच्छता तेन न हतो राजेत्यपि च ते विदुः ॥१४-८५-१२॥
taddṛṣṭvā vismayaṁ jagmurgāndhārāḥ sarva eva te। icchatā tena na hato rājetyapi ca te viduḥ॥14-85-12॥
[तत् (tat) - that; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; विस्मयं (vismayam) - wonder; astonishment; जग्मुः (jagmuh) - went (to); entered (into, i.e., experienced); गान्धाराः (gāndhārāḥ) - the Gandharas; सर्वे (sarve) - all; एव (eva) - indeed; ते (te) - they; इच्छता (icchatā) - by the one wishing; by the desirer; तेन (tena) - by him; न (na) - not; हतः (hataḥ) - killed; राजा (rājā) - the king; इति (iti) - thus; अपि (api) - also; च (ca) - and; ते (te) - they; विदुः (viduḥ) - knew; understood;]
(That having seen, wonder they entered, the Gandharas, all indeed, they. By the one wishing, by him, not killed the king, thus also and they knew.)
Having seen that, the Gandharas all indeed were filled with wonder. They also knew that the king had not been killed by the one who wished (to kill him). (14-85-12)
गान्धारराजपुत्रस्तु पलायनकृतक्षणः। बभौ तैरेव सहितस्त्रस्तैः क्षुद्रमृगैरिव ॥१४-८५-१३॥
gāndhārarājaputrastu palāyanakṛtakṣaṇaḥ। babhau taireva sahitastraistaiḥ kṣudramṛgairiva ॥14-85-13॥
[गान्धारराजपुत्रः (gāndhārarājaputraḥ) - son of the king of Gandhāra; तु (tu) - but; पलायनकृतक्षणः (palāyanakṛtakṣaṇaḥ) - having made the moment for fleeing; बभौ (babhau) - appeared; तैः (taiḥ) - with those; एव (eva) - only; सहितः (sahitaḥ) - associated; त्रस्तैः (traistaiḥ) - with the frightened; क्षुद्रमृगैः (kṣudramṛgaiḥ) - with small animals; इव (iva) - like;]
(The son of the king of Gandhāra, but, having made (seized) the moment for fleeing, appeared with those associated only with the frightened, like with small animals.)
But the son of the king of Gandhāra, having seized the opportunity to flee, appeared together with those same frightened ones, just like (being) with small animals. (14-85-13)
तेषां तु तरसा पार्थस्तत्रैव परिधावताम्। विजहारोत्तमाङ्गानि भल्लैः संनतपर्वभिः ॥१४-८५-१४॥
teṣāṃ tu tarasā pārthas tatraiva paridhāvatām। vijahārottamāṅgāni bhallaiḥ saṃnataparvabhiḥ ॥14-85-14॥
[तेषां (teṣām) - of them; तु (tu) - but; तरसा (tarasā) - with speed; पार्थः (pārthaḥ) - Pārtha (Arjuna); तत्रैव (tatraiva) - there itself; परिधावताम् (paridhāvatām) - (of those who were) running around; विजहार (vijahāra) - cut off; उत्तमाङ्गानि (uttamāṅgāni) - heads; भल्लैः (bhallaiḥ) - with (his) arrows; सन्नतपर्वभिः (saṃnataparvabhiḥ) - having bent (and) with curved joints;]
(Of them but with speed Pārtha there itself of those running around cut off heads with arrows having bent (and) with curved joints.)
But Pārtha (Arjuna), with speed, right there, cut off the heads of those who were running about with his curved, jointed arrows. (14-85-14)
उच्छ्रितांस्तु भुजान्केचिन्नाबुध्यन्त शरैर्हृतान्। शरैर्गाण्डीवनिर्मुक्तैः पृथुभिः पार्थचोदितैः ॥१४-८५-१५॥
ucchritāṁs tu bhujān kecin nābudhyanta śarair hṛtān। śarair gāṇḍīva-nirmuktaiḥ pṛthubhiḥ pārtha-coditaiḥ ॥14-85-15॥
[उच्छ्रितान् (ucchritān) - raised; तु (tu) - but; भुजान् (bhujān) - arms; केचन (kecin) - some; नाबुध्यन्त (nābudhyanta) - did not perceive; शरैः (śaraiḥ) - by arrows; हृतान् (hṛtān) - taken away; शरैः (śaraiḥ) - by arrows; गाण्डीवनिर्मुक्तैः (gāṇḍīva-nirmuktaiḥ) - released from the Gāṇḍīva (bow); पृथुभिः (pṛthubhiḥ) - broad; पार्थचोदितैः (pārtha-coditaiḥ) - urged/fired by Pārtha (Arjuna);]
(But some did not perceive (that) their raised arms were taken away by arrows, by broad arrows released from the Gāṇḍīva, fired by Pārtha.)
However, some did not realize that their upraised arms had been severed by the broad arrows released from the Gāṇḍīva, discharged by Pārtha. (14-85-15)
सम्भ्रान्तनरनागाश्वमथ तद्विद्रुतं बलम्। हतविध्वस्तभूयिष्ठमावर्तत मुहुर्मुहुः ॥१४-८५-१६॥
sambhrāntanaranāgāśvamatha tadvidrutaṃ balam। hatavidhvastabhūyiṣṭhamāvartata muhurmuhuḥ ॥14-85-16॥
[सम्भ्रान्त-नर-नाग-अश्व-मथ (sambhrānta-nara-nāga-aśva-matha) - agitated-man-elephant-horse-and; तद्-विद्रुतं (tad-vidrutaṃ) - that-fleeing; बलम् (balam) - army; हत-विध्वस्त-भूयिष्ठम् (hata-vidhvasta-bhūyiṣṭham) - mostly-slain-and-dispersed; आवर्तत (āvartata) - returned; मुःर्-मुःर् (muhur-muhuḥ) - again-and-again;]
(Agitated with men, elephants, and horses, that fleeing army, mostly slain and scattered, returned again and again.)
That army, agitated with men, elephants, and horses, fleeing and mostly slain and scattered, kept returning again and again. (14-85-16)
न ह्यदृश्यन्त वीरस्य केचिदग्रेऽग्र्यकर्मणः। रिपवः पात्यमाना वै ये सहेयुर्महाशरान् ॥१४-८५-१७॥
na hy adṛśyanta vīrasya kecid agre'grya-karmaṇaḥ। ripavaḥ pātyamānā vai ye saheyuḥ mahā-śarān ॥14-85-17॥
[न (na) - not; हि (hi) - indeed; अदृश्यन्त (adṛśyanta) - were seen; वीरस्य (vīrasya) - of the hero; केचित् (kecit) - any; अग्रे (agre) - in the front; अग्र्यकर्मणः (agrya-karmaṇaḥ) - of him of excellent deeds; रिपवः (ripavaḥ) - enemies; पात्यमानाः (pātyamānāḥ) - being struck; वै (vai) - indeed; ये (ye) - who; सहेयुः (saheyuḥ) - could withstand; महाशरान् (mahā-śarān) - great arrows;]
(Not indeed were seen of the hero any in the front of him of excellent deeds; the enemies being struck indeed who could withstand great arrows.)
Truly, none could be seen in the forefront of the heroic one of noble deeds; the enemies being struck — who could withstand his mighty arrows? (14-85-17)
ततो गान्धारराजस्य मन्त्रिवृद्धपुरःसरा। जननी निर्ययौ भीता पुरस्कृत्यार्घ्यमुत्तमम् ॥१४-८५-१८॥
tato gāndhārarājasya mantrivṛddhapuraḥsarā. jananī niryayau bhītā puraskṛtyārghyamuttamam ॥14-85-18॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; गान्धारराजस्य (gāndhārarājasya) - of the king of Gandhara; मन्त्रिवृद्धपुरःसरा (mantrivṛddhapuraḥsarā) - preceded by minister and elders; जननी (jananī) - mother; निर्ययौ (niryayau) - went out; भीता (bhītā) - fearful; पुरस्कृत्य (puraskṛtya) - having placed in front; अर्घ्यम् (arghyam) - offering of water (for hospitality); उत्तमम् (uttamam) - best;]
(Then, of the king of Gandhara, preceded by minister and elders, the mother, fearful, went out, having placed in front the best offering of water.)
Then the mother of the king of Gandhara, escorted by the minister and elders, went out fearfully, placing in front the best offering of hospitality (arghya). (14-85-18)
सा न्यवारयदव्यग्रा तं पुत्रं युद्धदुर्मदम्। प्रसादयामास च तं जिष्णुमक्लिष्टकारिणम् ॥१४-८५-१९॥
sā nyavārayad avyagrā taṃ putraṃ yuddha-durmadam। prasādayām āsa ca taṃ jiṣṇum akliṣṭa-kāriṇam ॥14-85-19॥
[सा (sā) - she; न्यवारयत् (nyavārayat) - restrained; अव्यग्रा (avyagrā) - unagitated; तं (taṃ) - that; पुत्रं (putraṃ) - son; युद्धदुर्मदम् (yuddha-durmadam) - intoxicated (by) battle; प्रसादयामास (prasādayām āsa) - sought to pacify; च (ca) - and; तं (taṃ) - that; जिष्णुम् (jiṣṇum) - victorious one; अक्लिष्टकारिणम् (akliṣṭa-kāriṇam) - one who acts without difficulty;]
(She, unagitated, restrained that son intoxicated by battle. And she sought to pacify that victorious one, performer of effortless deeds.)
She, remaining unperturbed, restrained that son who was intoxicated by battle, and she also sought to appease that victorious one who accomplished deeds without hardship. (14-85-19)
तां पूजयित्वा कौन्तेयः प्रसादमकरोत्तदा। शकुनेश्चापि तनयं सान्त्वयन्निदमब्रवीत् ॥१४-८५-२०॥
tāṃ pūjayitvā kaunteyaḥ prasādamakarottadā। śakuneścāpi tanayaṃ sāntvayannidamabravīt ॥14-85-20॥
[तां (tāṃ) - her; पूजयित्वा (pūjayitvā) - having honored; कौन्तेयः (kaunteyaḥ) - the son of Kunti; प्रसादम् (prasādam) - favor; अकरोत् (akarot) - he showed; तदा (tadā) - then; शकुनेः (śakuneḥ) - of Śakuni; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; तनयम् (tanayam) - son; सान्त्वयन् (sāntvayan) - consoling; इदम् (idam) - this; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - he said;]
(Her having honored, the son of Kunti showed favor then. Of Śakuni also the son, consoling, this he said. (14-85-20))
Having honored her, the son of Kunti then showed favor. Consoling even the son of Śakuni, he said this. (14-85-20)
न मे प्रियं महाबाहो यत्ते बुद्धिरियं कृता। प्रतियोद्धुममित्रघ्न भ्रातैव त्वं ममानघ ॥१४-८५-२१॥
na me priyaṃ mahābāho yat te buddhir iyaṃ kṛtā। pratiyoddhum amitraghnā bhrātaiva tvaṃ mama anagha ॥14-85-21॥
[न (na) - not; मे (me) - to me; प्रियं (priyaṃ) - dear; महाबाहो (mahābāho) - O mighty-armed; यत् (yat) - that which; ते (te) - your; बुद्धिरियं (buddhir iyaṃ) - intellect this; कृता (kṛtā) - has been made; प्रतियोद्धुम् (pratiyoddhum) - to fight against; अमित्रघ्न (amitraghnā) - destroyer of foes; भ्राता (bhrātā) - brother; एव (eva) - indeed; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; मम (mama) - my; अनघ (anagha) - O sinless;]
(Not to me dear, O mighty-armed, that which your intellect this has been made, to fight against, O destroyer of foes; brother indeed you my O sinless.)
O mighty-armed, this resolve of yours, to fight against me, is not dear to me; O destroyer of foes, you are indeed my brother, O sinless one. (14-85-21)
गान्धारीं मातरं स्मृत्वा धृतराष्ट्रकृतेन च। तेन जीवसि राजंस्त्वं निहतास्त्वनुगास्तव ॥१४-८५-२२॥
gāndhārīṃ mātaraṃ smṛtvā dhṛtarāṣṭra-kṛtena ca। tena jīvasi rājan tvaṃ nihatās tvanugās tava॥14-85-22॥
[गान्धारीं (gāndhārīṃ) - Gāndhārī; (proper noun, accusative singular); मातरं (mātaram) - mother; (accusative singular); स्मृत्वा (smṛtvā) - having remembered; धृतराष्ट्रकृतेन (dhṛtarāṣṭra-kṛtena) - by (the act) done for Dhṛtarāṣṭra; (instrumental singular n.); च (ca) - and; तेन (tena) - by that; जीवसि (jīvasi) - you live; राजन्स् (rājan) - O king; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; निहताः (nihatāḥ) - slain; (nominative plural masculine); त्वनुगाः (tvanugāḥ) - your followers; तव (tava) - of yours;]
(Having remembered Gāndhārī, the mother, and by (the act) done for Dhṛtarāṣṭra, by that you live, O king, you, your followers slain, of yours.)
O king, having remembered Gāndhārī, your mother, and through the act done for Dhṛtarāṣṭra, it is by that you remain alive, while your followers, who are yours, have been slain. (14-85-22)
मैवं भूः शाम्यतां वैरं मा ते भूद्बुद्धिरीदृशी। आगन्तव्यं परां चैत्रीमश्वमेधे नृपस्य नः ॥१४-८५-२३॥
maivaṃ bhūḥ śāmyatāṃ vairaṃ mā te bhūdbuddhirīdṛśī. āgantavyaṃ parāṃ caitrīmaśvamedhe nṛpasya naḥ ॥14-85-23॥
[मैवं (maivaṃ) - not thus; भूः (bhūḥ) - be; शाम्यतां (śāmyatām) - let it be pacified; वैरं (vairaṃ) - enmity; मा (mā) - do not; ते (te) - your; भूद् (bhūt) - become; बुद्धिः (buddhiḥ) - thought; ईदृशी (īdṛśī) - such; आगन्तव्यं (āgantavyaṃ) - must come; परां (parāṃ) - supreme; चैत्रीम् (caitrīm) - of Caitra (month); अश्वमेधे (aśvamedhe) - during the horse-sacrifice; नृपस्य (nṛpasya) - of the king; नः (naḥ) - of us;]
(Not thus be; let the enmity be pacified; do not your thought become such. You must come to the great (sacrifice) of Caitra at the horse-sacrifice of our king.)
Do not be so; let the enmity be pacified. Do not harbor such thoughts. You must come to the great Caitra horse-sacrifice of our king. (14-85-23)
