एवमुक्तास्तु ते तेन पौरजानपदा जनाः। वृद्धेन राज्ञा कौरव्य नष्टसञ्ज्ञा इवाभवन् ॥१५-१५-१॥
evamuktās tu te tena paurajānapadā janāḥ। vṛddhena rājñā kauravya naṣṭasañjñā ivābhavan ॥15-15-1॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्ताः (uktāḥ) - spoken to; तु (tu) - but; ते (te) - they; तेन (tena) - by him; पौरजानपदाः (paurajānapadāḥ) - urban and rural; जनाः (janāḥ) - people; वृद्धेन (vṛddhena) - by the old; राज्ञा (rājñā) - by the king; कौरव्य (kauravya) - O descendant of Kuru; नष्टसञ्ज्ञाः (naṣṭasañjñāḥ) - those having lost consciousness; इव (iva) - as if; अभवन् (abhavan) - they became;]
(Thus spoken to, but they by him—the urban and rural people—by the old king, O Kauravya, as if having lost consciousness, became.)
O Kauravya, when thus addressed by him, the urban and rural people, by the old king, became as if they had lost all awareness. (15-15-1)
तूष्णीम्भूतांस्ततस्तांस्तु बाष्पकण्ठान्महीपतिः। धृतराष्ट्रो महीपालः पुनरेवाभ्यभाषत ॥१५-१५-२॥
tūṣṇīṁbhūtāṁs tataḥ tāṁs tu bāṣpakaṇṭhān mahīpatiḥ. dhṛtarāṣṭro mahīpālaḥ punar eva abhyabhāṣata ॥15-15-2॥
[तूष्णीम्भूतान् (tūṣṇīṁbhūtān) - who had become silent; ततः (tataḥ) - then; ताम् (tām) - those; तु (tu) - but; बाष्पकण्ठान् (bāṣpakaṇṭhān) - with throats choked with tears; महीपतिः (mahīpatiḥ) - the king; धृतराष्ट्रः (dhṛtarāṣṭraḥ) - Dhritarashtra; महीपालः (mahīpālaḥ) - the ruler of the earth; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; एव (eva) - indeed; अभ्यभाषत (abhyabhāṣata) - addressed;]
(Who had become silent then those but with throats choked with tears, the king Dhritarashtra, the ruler of the earth, again indeed addressed.)
Then, seeing those who had become silent and whose throats were choked with tears, King Dhritarashtra, the ruler of the earth, again spoke to them. (15-15-2)
वृद्धं मां हतपुत्रं च धर्मपत्न्या सहानया। विलपन्तं बहुविधं कृपणं चैव सत्तमाः ॥१५-१५-३॥
vṛddhaṁ māṁ hataputraṁ ca dharmapatnyā sahānayā। vilapantaṁ bahuvidhaṁ kṛpaṇaṁ caiva sattamāḥ ॥15-15-3॥
[वृद्धम् (vṛddham) - aged; माम् (mām) - me; हतपुत्रम् (hataputram) - bereft-of-son; च (ca) - and; धर्मपत्न्या (dharmapatnyā) - by righteous wife; सह (saha) - together; अनया (anayā) - with her; विलपन्तम् (vilapantam) - lamenting; बहुविधम् (bahuvidham) - in many ways; कृपणम् (kṛpaṇam) - miserable; चैव (ca eva) - and also; सत्तमाः (sattamāḥ) - O best of beings;]
(Me aged, bereft of son, and with righteous wife together with her, lamenting in many ways, miserable and also, O best of beings.)
O best of beings, when I, aged and bereft of my son, together with my righteous wife, was lamenting miserably in many ways. (15-15-3)
पित्रा स्वयमनुज्ञातं कृष्णद्वैपायनेन वै। वनवासाय धर्मज्ञा धर्मज्ञेन नृपेण च ॥१५-१५-४॥
pitrā svayamanujñātaṁ kṛṣṇadvaipāyanena vai। vanavāsāya dharmajñā dharmajñena nṛpeṇa ca ॥15-15-4॥
[पित्रा (pitrā) - by the father; स्वयम् (svayam) - himself; अनुज्ञातं (anujñātam) - permitted; कृष्णद्वैपायनेन (kṛṣṇadvaipāyanena) - by Kṛṣṇadvaipāyana; वै (vai) - indeed; वनवासाय (vanavāsāya) - for forest dwelling; धर्मज्ञा (dharmajñā) - the knowers of dharma; धर्मज्ञेन (dharmajñena) - by the knower of dharma; नृपेण (nṛpeṇa) - by the king; च (ca) - and;]
(By the father, himself permitted, by Kṛṣṇadvaipāyana indeed, for forest dwelling, the knowers of dharma, by the knower of dharma, by the king and.)
Permitted by their father, by Kṛṣṇadvaipāyana indeed, for dwelling in the forest, the knowers of dharma (the Pāṇḍavas) were also permitted by the righteous king. (15-15-4)
सोऽहं पुनः पुनर्याचे शिरसावनतोऽनघाः। गान्धार्या सहितं तन्मां समनुज्ञातुमर्हथ ॥१५-१५-५॥
so'haṃ punaḥ punar yāce śirasā vanato'naghāḥ. gāndhāryā sahitaṃ tan māṃ samanujñātum arhatha ॥15-15-5॥
[सः (saḥ) - he; अहम् (aham) - I; पुनः पुनः (punaḥ punaḥ) - again and again; याचे (yāce) - I beg; शिरसा (śirasā) - with (my) head; वनतः (vanataḥ) - bowed; अनघाः (anaghāḥ) - O sinless ones; गान्धार्या (gāndhāryā) - by Gandhari; सहितं (sahitam) - together; तत् (tat) - that; माम् (mām) - me; समनुज्ञातुम् (samanujñātum) - to grant full permission; अर्हथ (arhatha) - you all ought;]
(He I again and again beg, with (my) head bowed, O sinless ones. By Gandhari together, that me to fully permit you all ought.)
Therefore, I, with my head bowed again and again, beseech you, O sinless ones, that together with Gandhari you all ought to fully grant me permission. (15-15-5)
श्रुत्वा तु कुरुराजस्य वाक्यानि करुणानि ते। रुरुदुः सर्वतो राजन्समेताः कुरुजाङ्गलाः ॥१५-१५-६॥
śrutvā tu kururājasya vākyāni karuṇāni te. ruruduḥ sarvato rājansametāḥ kurujāṅgalāḥ ॥15-15-6॥
[श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; तु (tu) - but; कुरुराजस्य (kururājasya) - of the king of the Kurus; वाक्यानि (vākyāni) - words; करुणानि (karuṇāni) - pitiful; ते (te) - they; रुरुदुः (ruruduḥ) - wept; सर्वतः (sarvataḥ) - on all sides; राजन् (rājan) - O king; समेताः (sametāḥ) - assembled; कुरुजाङ्गलाः (kurujāṅgalāḥ) - the people of the Kuru country;]
(Having heard but of the king of the Kurus words pitiful they wept on all sides O king assembled the people of the Kuru country.)
But having heard the pitiful words of the king of the Kurus, O king, the assembled people of the Kuru country wept on all sides. (15-15-6)
उत्तरीयैः करैश्चापि सञ्छाद्य वदनानि ते। रुरुदुः शोकसन्तप्ता मुहूर्तं पितृमातृवत् ॥१५-१५-७॥
uttarīyaiḥ karaiz cāpi sañchādya vadanāni te। ruruduḥ śoka-santaptā muhūrtaṃ pitṛ-mātṛ-vat ॥15-15-7॥
[उत्तरीयैः (uttarīyaiḥ) - with upper garments; करैः (karaiḥ) - with hands; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; सञ्छाद्य (sañchādya) - having covered; वदनानि (vadanāni) - faces; ते (te) - their; रुरुदुः (ruruduḥ) - they wept; शोकसन्तप्ता (śoka-santaptā) - distressed by grief; मुहूर्तम् (muhūrtam) - for a moment; पितृमातृवत् (pitṛ-mātṛ-vat) - like (for) father and mother;]
(With upper garments and hands also, having covered their faces, they wept, distressed by grief, for a moment, like (mourning) for father and mother.)
They covered their faces with their upper garments and hands, and, tormented by grief, wept for a while, as if mourning a father and mother. (15-15-7)
हृदयैः शून्यभूतैस्ते धृतराष्ट्रप्रवासजम्। दुःखं सन्धारयन्तः स्म नष्टसञ्ज्ञा इवाभवन् ॥१५-१५-८॥
hṛdayaiḥ śūnyabhūtais te dhṛtarāṣṭrapravāsajam। duḥkhaṃ sandhārayantaḥ sma naṣṭasañjñā ivābhavan ॥15-15-8॥
[हृदयैः (hṛdayaiḥ) - with hearts; शून्यभूतैः (śūnyabhūtaiḥ) - having become empty; ते (te) - they; धृतराष्ट्रप्रवासजम् (dhṛtarāṣṭra-pravāsa-jam) - arising from Dhṛtarāṣṭra's exile; दुःखं (duḥkham) - sorrow; सन्धारयन्तः (sandhārayantaḥ) - bearing; स्म (sma) - indeed; नष्टसञ्ज्ञा (naṣṭasañjñāḥ) - their consciousness gone; इव (iva) - as if; अभवन् (abhavan) - they became;]
(With hearts having become empty, they, bearing the sorrow arising from Dhṛtarāṣṭra's exile, indeed became as if their consciousness (was) lost.)
With hearts emptied, they endured the sorrow from Dhṛtarāṣṭra's exile and became as if they had lost all awareness. (15-15-8)
ते विनीय तमायासं कुरुराजवियोगजम्। शनैः शनैस्तदान्योन्यमब्रुवन्स्वमतान्युत ॥१५-१५-९॥
te vinīya tam āyāsaṃ kururāja-viyoga-jam। śanaiḥ śanaiḥ tad anyonyam abruvan svamatāni uta ॥15-15-9॥
[ते (te) - they; विनीय (vinīya) - having overcome; तम् (tam) - that; आयासम् (āyāsaṃ) - fatigue; कुरुराज (kururāja) - king of the Kurus; वियोगजम् (viyoga-jam) - born from separation; शनैः शनैः (śanaiḥ śanaiḥ) - gradually; तत् (tat) - then; अन्योन्यम् (anyonyam) - each other; अब्रुवन् (abruvan) - they said; स्वमतानि (svamatāni) - their opinions; उत (uta) - indeed;]
(They, having overcome that fatigue born from separation from the king of the Kurus, gradually then indeed said to each other their opinions.)
After overcoming that fatigue caused by being separated from the king of the Kurus, they slowly began to share their opinions with each other. (15-15-9)
ततः सन्धाय ते सर्वे वाक्यान्यथ समासतः। एकस्मिन्ब्राह्मणे राजन्नावेश्योचुर्नराधिपम् ॥१५-१५-१०॥
tataḥ saṃdhāya te sarve vākyānyatha samāsataḥ. ekasmin brāhmaṇe rājann āveśya ūcur narādhipam ॥15-15-10॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; सन्धाय (saṃdhāya) - having composed; ते (te) - they; सर्वे (sarve) - all; वाक्यानि (vākyāni) - statements; अथ (atha) - then; समासतः (samāsataḥ) - in summary; एकस्मिन् (ekasmin) - in one (single); ब्राह्मणे (brāhmaṇe) - brāhmaṇa; राजन् (rājan) - O king; आवेश्य (āveśya) - having placed; ऊचुः (ūcuḥ) - they said; नराधिपम् (narādhipam) - to the lord of men (king);]
(Then, having composed all the statements in summary, they, having placed (them) in one brāhmaṇa, O king, said to the lord of men.)

ततः स्वचरणे वृद्धः संमतोऽर्थविशारदः। साम्बाख्यो बह्वृचो राजन्वक्तुं समुपचक्रमे ॥१५-१५-११॥
tataḥ svacaraṇe vṛddhaḥ sammatō'rthaviśāradaḥ। sāmbākhyo bahvṛco rājan vaktuṃ samupacakrame ॥15-15-11॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; स्वचरणे (svacaraṇe) - at his feet; वृद्धः (vṛddhaḥ) - elder; संमतः (sammataḥ) - respected; अर्थविशारदः (arthaviśāradaḥ) - accomplished in meaning; साम्बाख्यः (sāmbākhyaḥ) - named Sāmba; बह्वृचः (bahvṛcaḥ) - versed in the Ṛgveda; राजन् (rājan) - O king; वक्तुम् (vaktum) - to speak; समुपचक्रमे (samupacakrame) - he began;]
(Then, at his feet, the elder, respected, accomplished in meaning, named Sāmba, versed in the Ṛgveda, O king, to speak, he began.)
Then, O king, Sāmba, the elder, respected and accomplished in meaning, versed in the Ṛgveda, began to speak at his feet. (15-15-11)
अनुमान्य महाराजं तत्सदः सम्प्रभाष्य च। विप्रः प्रगल्भो मेधावी स राजानमुवाच ह ॥१५-१५-१२॥
anumānya mahārājaṃ tatsadaḥ samprabhāṣya ca. vipraḥ pragalbho medhāvī sa rājānam uvāca ha ॥15-15-12॥
[अनुमान्य (anumānya) - having respectfully addressed; महाराजं (mahārājaṃ) - the great king; तत्-सदः (tatsadaḥ) - that assembly; सम्-प्रभाष्य (samprabhāṣya) - having conversed duly with; च (ca) - and; विप्रः (vipraḥ) - the brāhmaṇa; प्रगल्भः (pragalbhaḥ) - bold; मेधावी (medhāvī) - wise; स (sa) - he; राजानम् (rājānam) - to the king; उवाच (uvāca) - said; ह (ha) - indeed;]
(Having respectfully addressed the great king and conversed with that assembly, the bold and wise brāhmaṇa, he indeed said to the king.)

राजन्वाक्यं जनस्यास्य मयि सर्वं समर्पितम्। वक्ष्यामि तदहं वीर तज्जुषस्व नराधिप ॥१५-१५-१३॥
rājanvākyaṃ janasyāsya mayi sarvaṃ samarpitam। vakṣyāmi tadahaṃ vīra taj juṣasva narādhipa ॥15-15-13॥
[राजन् (rājan) - O King; वाक्यं (vākyaṃ) - speech; जनस्य (janasya) - of the people; अस्य (asya) - of this; मयि (mayi) - to me; सर्वं (sarvaṃ) - all; समर्पितम् (samarpitam) - entrusted; वक्ष्यामि (vakṣyāmi) - I shall speak; तत् (tat) - that; अहम् (aham) - I; वीर (vīra) - O hero; तत् (tat) - that; जुषस्व (juṣasva) - accept; नराधिप (narādhipa) - O lord of men;]
(O King, the speech of this people, all entrusted to me, I shall speak that, O hero, that accept, O lord of men (15-15-13))
O King, the statement which all these people have entrusted to me, I shall speak that. O hero, accept it, O lord of men. (15-15-13)
यथा वदसि राजेन्द्र सर्वमेतत्तथा विभो। नात्र मिथ्या वचः किञ्चित्सुहृत्त्वं नः परस्परम् ॥१५-१५-१४॥
yathā vadasi rājendra sarvam etat tathā vibho। na atra mithyā vacaḥ kiñcit suhṛttvaṃ naḥ parasparam ॥15-15-14॥
[यथा (yathā) - as; in the manner; according to; as; वदसि (vadasi) - you say; राजेन्द्र (rājendra) - O king; best of kings; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; everything; एतत् (etat) - this; तथा (tathā) - so; thus; विभो (vibho) - O lord; illustrious one; न (na) - not; अत्र (atra) - here; मिथ्या (mithyā) - false; untrue; वचः (vacaḥ) - speech; statement; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - anything; even a little; सुहृत्त्वं (suhṛttvam) - friendship; नः (naḥ) - our; परस्परम् (parasparam) - mutual; with each other;]
(As you say, O king, all this is thus, O lord; here not any false statement in the least; our friendship is mutual.)
O king, just as you say, O lord, all this is so; there is not the slightest falsehood here; our friendship is truly mutual. (15-15-14)
न जात्वस्य तु वंशस्य राज्ञां कश्चित्कदाचन। राजासीद्यः प्रजापालः प्रजानामप्रियो भवेत् ॥१५-१५-१५॥
na jātv asya tu vaṃśasya rājñāṃ kaścit kadācana। rājā āsīd yaḥ prajāpālaḥ prajānām apriyo bhavet ॥15-15-15॥
[न (na) - not; जातु (jātu) - ever; अस्य (asya) - of this; तु (tu) - but; वंशस्य (vaṃśasya) - of the lineage (dynasty); राज्ञाम् (rājñām) - of the kings; कश्चित् (kaścit) - any; कदाचन (kadācana) - at any time; राजा (rājā) - king; आसीत् (āsīt) - was; यः (yaḥ) - who; प्रजापालः (prajāpālaḥ) - protector of the people; प्रजानाम् (prajānām) - of the people; अप्रियः (apriyaḥ) - unliked; भवेत् (bhavet) - would be;]
(Not ever but of this lineage of kings any at any time king was who protector of the people of the people unliked would be.)
But never, in this lineage of kings, was there any king at any time who, being a protector of the people, would be unliked by the people. (15-15-15)
पितृवद्भ्रातृवच्चैव भवन्तः पालयन्ति नः। न च दुर्योधनः किञ्चिदयुक्तं कृतवान्नृप ॥१५-१५-१६॥
pitṛvadbhrātṛvaccaiva bhavantaḥ pālayanti naḥ। na ca duryodhanaḥ kiñcidayuktaṃ kṛtavānnṛpa ॥15-15-16॥
[पितृवत् (pitṛvat) - like a father; भ्रातृवत् (bhrātṛvat) - like a brother; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; भवन्तः (bhavantaḥ) - you (honorific plural); the respected ones; पालयन्ति (pālayanti) - protect; नः (naḥ) - us; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; दुर्योधनः (duryodhanaḥ) - Duryodhana; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - anything; अयुक्तं (ayuktaṃ) - improper; कृतवान् (kṛtavān) - has done; नृप (nṛpa) - O king;]
(Like a father, like a brother indeed, you protect us; and Duryodhana has not done anything improper, O king.)
You protect us as a father and as a brother, and Duryodhana has not done anything improper, O king. (15-15-16)
यथा ब्रवीति धर्मज्ञो मुनिः सत्यवतीसुतः। तथा कुरु महाराज स हि नः परमो गुरुः ॥१५-१५-१७॥
yathā bravīti dharmajño muniḥ satyavatīsutaḥ। tathā kuru mahārāja sa hi naḥ paramo guruḥ॥15-15-17॥
[यथा (yathā) - as; in the manner that; ब्रवीति (bravīti) - he speaks; he says; धर्मज्ञः (dharmajñaḥ) - knower of dharma; one who knows righteousness; मुनिः (muniḥ) - sage; ascetic; सत्यवतीसुतः (satyavatīsutaḥ) - son of Satyavatī; तथा (tathā) - so; likewise; कुरु (kuru) - do; you must do; महाराज (mahārāja) - O great king; स (sa) - he; हि (hi) - indeed; नः (naḥ) - for us; our; परमः (paramaḥ) - supreme; highest; गुरुः (guruḥ) - teacher; spiritual guide;]
(As the knower of dharma, the sage, the son of Satyavatī, speaks, so do, O great king; for he indeed is for us the supreme teacher.)
O great king, do as the son of Satyavatī, the sage who knows dharma, says; for he indeed is our supreme teacher. (15-15-17)
त्यक्ता वयं तु भवता दुःखशोकपरायणाः। भविष्यामश्चिरं राजन्भवद्गुणशतैर्हृताः ॥१५-१५-१८॥
tyaktā vayaṃ tu bhavatā duḥkhaśokaparāyaṇāḥ। bhaviṣyāmaś ciraṃ rājan bhavadguṇaśatair hṛtāḥ॥15-15-18॥
[त्यक्ता (tyaktā) - abandoned; वयम् (vayam) - we; तु (tu) - but; भवता (bhavatā) - by you; दुःखशोकपरायणाः (duḥkhaśokaparāyaṇāḥ) - absorbed in pain and grief; भविष्यामः (bhaviṣyāmaḥ) - we shall be; चिरम् (ciram) - for a long time; राजन् (rājan) - O King; भवद्गुणशतैः (bhavad-guṇa-śataiḥ) - by your hundreds of qualities; हृताः (hṛtāḥ) - captivated;]
(Abandoned we but by you, absorbed in pain and grief, we shall be for a long time, O King, captivated by your hundreds of qualities.)
We, having been abandoned by you, O King, will long remain absorbed in pain and sorrow, our hearts captivated by your hundreds of virtues. (15-15-18)
यथा शन्तनुना गुप्ता राज्ञा चित्राङ्गदेन च। भीष्मवीर्योपगूढेन पित्रा च तव पार्थिव ॥१५-१५-१९॥
yathā śantanunā guptā rājñā citrāṅgadena ca। bhīṣmavīryopagūḍhena pitrā ca tava pārthiva ॥15-15-19॥
[यथा (yathā) - just as; शन्तनुना (śantanunā) - by Śantanu (father; instrumental); गुप्ता (guptā) - protected (feminine singular); राज्ञा (rājñā) - by the king (Śantanu; instrumental); चित्राङ्गदेन (citrāṅgadena) - by Citrāṅgada (son of Śantanu; instrumental); च (ca) - and; भीष्मवीर्योपगूढेन (bhīṣmavīryopagūḍhena) - by Bhīṣma the powerful protector (instrumental); पित्रा (pitrā) - by the father; च (ca) - and; तव (tava) - your; पार्थिव (pārthiva) - O king;]
(Just as, by Śantanu protected, by the king, by Citrāṅgada and, by Bhīṣma the mighty protector, by the father and, your, O king.)
Just as you, O king, were protected by Śantanu, by the king, by Citrāṅgada, and by your father Bhīṣma, the mighty protector. (15-15-19)
भवद्बुद्धियुजा चैव पाण्डुना पृथिवीक्षिता। तथा दुर्योधनेनापि राज्ञा सुपरिपालिताः ॥१५-१५-२०॥
bhavadbuddhiyujā caiva pāṇḍunā pṛthivīkṣitā. tathā duryodhenāpi rājñā suparipālitāḥ ॥15-15-20॥
[भवद्-बुद्धि-युजा (bhavad-buddhi-yujā) - with your intelligence joined; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; पाण्डुना (pāṇḍunā) - by Pāṇḍu (Yudhiṣṭhira); पृथिवी (pṛthivī) - earth; ईक्षिता (īkṣitā) - was governed; तथा (tathā) - likewise; दुर्योधनेन (duryodhanena) - by Duryodhana; अपि (api) - also; राज्ञा (rājñā) - by the king; सुपरिपालिताः (suparipālitāḥ) - well protected;]
(The earth, governed by Pāṇḍu (Yudhiṣṭhira), indeed with your intelligence joined, and likewise also by the king Duryodhana, was well protected.)

न स्वल्पमपि पुत्रस्ते व्यलीकं कृतवान्नृप। पितरीव सुविश्वस्तास्तस्मिन्नपि नराधिपे ॥ वयमास्म यथा सम्यग्भवतो विदितं तथा ॥१५-१५-२१॥
na svalpam api putras te vyalīkaṁ kṛtavān nṛpa। pitarīva suviśvastās tasminn api narādhipe॥ vayam āsma yathā samyag bhavato viditaṁ tathā॥15-15-21॥

(Not even a little wrongdoing has your son done, O king. Like (with) the father, we were very confident in that king also just as it is rightly known to you so.)
O king, your son has not done even the slightest wrong. We were as fully confident in that ruler as we were in his father, just as you know well. (15-15-21)
तथा वर्षसहस्राय कुन्तीपुत्रेण धीमता। पाल्यमाना धृतिमता सुखं विन्दामहे नृप ॥१५-१५-२२॥
tathā varṣasahasrāya kuntīputreṇa dhīmatā। pālyamānā dhṛtimatā sukhaṃ vindāmahe nṛpa ॥15-15-22॥
[तथा (tathā) - in that way; वर्षसहस्राय (varṣa-sahasrāya) - for a thousand years; कुन्तीपुत्रेण (kuntī-putreṇa) - by the son of Kuntī; धीमता (dhīmatā) - intelligent; पाल्यमाना (pālyamānā) - being protected; धृतिमता (dhṛtimatā) - steadfast; सुखं (sukham) - happiness; विन्दामहे (vindāmahe) - we obtain; नृप (nṛpa) - O king;]
(In that way, for a thousand years, by the son of Kuntī, intelligent, being protected, steadfast, happiness, we obtain, O king.)
In this way, O king, being protected by the intelligent and steadfast son of Kuntī for a thousand years, we obtained happiness. (15-15-22)
राजर्षीणां पुराणानां भवतां वंशधारिणाम्। कुरुसंवरणादीनां भरतस्य च धीमतः ॥१५-१५-२३॥
rājarṣīṇāṃ purāṇānāṃ bhavatāṃ vaṃśadhāriṇām। kuru-saṃvaraṇa-ādīnāṃ bharatasya ca dhīmataḥ ॥15-15-23॥

वृत्तं समनुयात्येष धर्मात्मा भूरिदक्षिणः। नात्र वाच्यं महाराज सुसूक्ष्ममपि विद्यते ॥१५-१५-२४॥
vṛttaṃ samanuyāty eṣa dharmātmā bhūridakṣiṇaḥ। nātra vācyaṃ mahārāja susūkṣmam api vidyate ॥15-15-24॥

उषिताः स्म सुखं नित्यं भवता परिपालिताः। सुसूक्ष्मं च व्यलीकं ते सपुत्रस्य न विद्यते ॥१५-१५-२५॥
uṣitāḥ sma sukhaṃ nityaṃ bhavatā paripālitāḥ। susūkṣmaṃ ca vyalīkaṃ te saputrasya na vidyate॥15-15-25॥
[उषिताः (uṣitāḥ) - dwelt; stayed; स्म (sma) - indeed; truly; सुखं (sukhaṃ) - happily; with comfort; नित्यं (nityaṃ) - always; perpetually; भवता (bhavatā) - by you; परिपालिताः (paripālitāḥ) - protected; cared for; सुसूक्ष्मं (susūkṣmaṃ) - very subtle; very minute; च (ca) - and; व्यलीकं (vyalīkaṃ) - wrongdoing; fault; ते (te) - of you; सपुत्रस्य (saputrasya) - of (you) with son; with your son; न (na) - not; विद्यते (vidyate) - exists;]
(Dwelt indeed happily always by you protected; very subtle and wrongdoing of you with son not exists.)
We have always dwelt happily, protected by you; there is not even the slightest fault of you or your son. (15-15-25)
यत्तु ज्ञातिविमर्देऽस्मिन्नात्थ दुर्योधनं प्रति। भवन्तमनुनेष्यामि तत्रापि कुरुनन्दन ॥१५-१५-२६॥
yattu jñātivimarde'sminnāttha duryodhanaṃ prati. bhavantam anuneṣyāmi tatrāpi kurunandana ॥15-15-26॥
[यत् (yat) - which; तु (tu) - but; ज्ञाति-विमर्दे (jñāti-vimarde) - in the conflict among relatives; अस्मिन् (asmin) - in this; आत्थ (āttha) - you said; दुर्योधनं (duryodhanam) - Duryodhana; प्रति (prati) - regarding; भवन्तम् (bhavantam) - you; अनुनेष्यामि (anuneṣyāmi) - I shall conciliate; तत्र (tatra) - there; अपि (api) - also; कुरुनन्दन (kurunandana) - O joy of the Kurus;]
(But which you said in this conflict among relatives regarding Duryodhana, there also, O joy of the Kurus, I shall conciliate you.)
