अर्जुनयुधिष्ठिरयोः वाक्ये
In the sentence between Arjuna and Yudhiṣṭhira;
अर्जुन उवाच॥
Arjuna said.
भीम ज्येष्ठो गुरुर्मे त्वं नातोऽन्यद्वक्तुमुत्सहे। धृतराष्ट्रो हि राजर्षिः सर्वथा मानमर्हति ॥१५-१८-१॥
O Bhīma, you are my elder and venerable one; therefore, I am not able to say anything else. Dhṛtarāṣṭra, indeed, as a royal sage, in every way deserves honor. (15-18-1)
न स्मरन्त्यपराद्धानि स्मरन्ति सुकृतानि च। असम्भिन्नार्थमर्यादाः साधवः पुरुषोत्तमाः ॥१५-१८-२॥
The excellent and virtuous men, who never transgress proper bounds, do not remember others’ offenses, but do remember good deeds. (15-18-2)
इदं मद्वचनात्क्षत्तः कौरवं ब्रूहि पार्थिवम्। यावदिच्छति पुत्राणां दातुं तावद्ददाम्यहम् ॥१५-१८-३॥
O Kṣatta, speak this from my side to the Kaurava, O king: I will give as much share of the sons as he desires. (15-18-3)
भीष्मादीनां च सर्वेषां सुहृदामुपकारिणाम्। मम कोशादिति विभो मा भूद्भीमः सुदुर्मनाः ॥१५-१८-४॥
O lord, let Bhīma not be very dejected in mind thinking, "Of Bhīṣma and others, and of all benefactors and friends, (gifts have been given) from my treasury." (15-18-4)
वैशम्पायन उवाच॥
Vaiśampāyana said.
इत्युक्ते धर्मराजस्तमर्जुनं प्रत्यपूजयत्। भीमसेनः कटाक्षेण वीक्षां चक्रे धनञ्जयम् ॥१५-१८-५॥
When these words were spoken, Dharmarāja (Yudhiṣṭhira) honored Arjuna in return. Bhīmasena cast a sidelong glance at Dhanañjaya (Arjuna). (15-18-5)
ततः स विदुरं धीमान्वाक्यमाह युधिष्ठिरः। न भीमसेने कोपं स नृपतिः कर्तुमर्हति ॥१५-१८-६॥
Then the wise Yudhishthira said to Vidura: "The king should not become angry with Bhimasena." (15-18-6)
परिक्लिष्टो हि भीमोऽयं हिमवृष्ट्यातपादिभिः। दुःखैर्बहुविधैर्धीमानरण्ये विदितं तव ॥१५-१८-७॥
This Bhīma is indeed much afflicted by cold, rain, heat, and other such sufferings of many kinds in the forest, as is well known to you. (15-18-7)
किं तु मद्वचनाद्ब्रूहि राजानं भरतर्षभम्। यद्यदिच्छसि यावच्च गृह्यतां मद्गृहादिति ॥१५-१८-८॥
But, tell the king, the foremost of the Bharatas, on my behalf: 'Whatever you wish, take as much as you like from my house.' (15-18-8)
यन्मात्सर्यमयं भीमः करोति भृशदुःखितः। न तन्मनसि कर्तव्यमिति वाच्यः स पार्थिवः ॥१५-१८-९॥
One should tell that king: "That which Bhīma does out of envy and great distress, do not let it be held in your mind or followed." (15-18-9)
यन्ममास्ति धनं किञ्चिदर्जुनस्य च वेश्मनि। तस्य स्वामी महाराज इति वाच्यः स पार्थिवः ॥१५-१८-१०॥
Whatever little wealth I possess in the house of Arjuna, its master should be addressed as 'great king'; he is the king. (15-18-10)
ददातु राजा विप्रेभ्यो यथेष्टं क्रियतां व्ययः। पुत्राणां सुहृदां चैव गच्छत्वानृण्यमद्य सः ॥१५-१८-११॥
Let the king give to the brāhmaṇas as is desired and let the necessary expenditure be made; as for his sons and friends, let him ensure today that he is free from debt. (15-18-11)
इदं चापि शरीरं मे तवायत्तं जनाधिप। धनानि चेति विद्धि त्वं क्षत्तर्नास्त्यत्र संशयः ॥१५-१८-१२॥
This body of mine is also dependent on you, O lord of men. Know, O Kshatta, that my wealths are also so; there is no doubt about this. (15-18-12)
