tato bhāgīrathītīre medhye puṇyajanocite। nivāsamakarodrājā vidurasya mate sthitaḥ ॥15-25-1॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; after that; भागीरथी-तीरे (bhāgīrathī-tīre) - on the bank of the Bhagirathi (Ganga); मेध्ये (medhye) - in a pure (sacred) place; पुण्य-जन-उचिते (puṇya-jana-ucite) - suitable for virtuous people; निवासम् (nivāsam) - residence; dwelling; अकरोत् (akarot) - he made; राजा (rājā) - the king; विदुरस्य (vidurasya) - of Vidura; मते (mate) - according to the advice; opinion; स्थितः (sthitaḥ) - having abided; (he) stayed;]
(Then, on the bank of the Bhagirathi, in a pure place suitable for virtuous people, the king made a residence, having abided by (according to) the opinion of Vidura.)
Then, on the bank of the Bhagirathi river, in a sacred place fitting for the virtuous, the king built a dwelling in accordance with Vidura's advice. (15-25-1)
तत्रैनं पर्युपातिष्ठन्ब्राह्मणा राष्ट्रवासिनः। क्षत्रविट्शूद्रसङ्घाश्च बहवो भरतर्षभ ॥१५-२५-२॥

(There him approached from all sides Brāhmaṇas, inhabitants of the kingdom, Kṣatriya, Vaiśya, Śūdra groups and many, O bull among the Bharatas.)
There, Brāhmaṇas, inhabitants of the kingdom, and many groups of Kṣatriyas, Vaiśyas, and Śūdras gathered around him from all sides, O foremost of the Bharatas. (15-25-2)
स तैः परिवृतो राजा कथाभिरभिनन्द्य तान्। अनुजज्ञे सशिष्यान्वै विधिवत्प्रतिपूज्य च ॥१५-२५-३॥
sa taiḥ parivṛto rājā kathābhir abhinandya tān। anujajñe saśiṣyān vai vidhivat pratipūjya ca ॥15-25-3॥

सायाह्ने स महीपालस्ततो गङ्गामुपेत्य ह। चकार विधिवच्छौचं गान्धारी च यशस्विनी ॥१५-२५-४॥
sāyāhne sa mahīpālas tato gaṅgām upetya ha। cakāra vidhivac chaucam gāndhārī ca yaśasvinī॥15-25-4॥

(In the evening, he, the king, thereupon having approached the Gaṅgā, indeed performed purification according to rule, and Gāndhārī, the illustrious, (did) too.)
In the evening, the king then went to the Gaṅgā and performed purification according to the rules; the illustrious Gāndhārī also did so. (15-25-4)
तथैवान्ये पृथक्सर्वे तीर्थेष्वाप्लुत्य भारत। चक्रुः सर्वाः क्रियास्तत्र पुरुषा विदुरादयः ॥१५-२५-५॥
tathaivānye pṛthaksarve tīrtheṣvāplutya bhārata। cakruḥ sarvāḥ kriyāstatra puruṣā vidurādayaḥ ॥15-25-5॥

(In the same way, others, all separately, having bathed in the sacred fords, O Bhārata, performed all rites there, men, Vidura and others.)

कृतशौचं ततो वृद्धं श्वशुरं कुन्तिभोजजा। गान्धारीं च पृथा राजन्गङ्गातीरमुपानयत् ॥१५-२५-६॥
kṛtaśaucaṃ tato vṛddhaṃ śvaśuraṃ kuntibhojajā। gāndhārīṃ ca pṛthā rājan gaṅgātīram upānayat ॥15-25-6॥

(One who has performed purification, then the aged father-in-law, the daughter of Kuntibhoja, Gandhari and Kunti, O king, to the bank of the Ganga, led.)

राज्ञस्तु याजकैस्तत्र कृतो वेदीपरिस्तरः। जुहाव तत्र वह्निं स नृपतिः सत्यसङ्गरः ॥१५-२५-७॥
rājñas tu yājakais tatra kṛto vedīparistaraḥ। juhāva tatra vahniṃ sa nṛpatiḥ satyasaṅgaraḥ ॥15-25-7॥
[राज्ञः (rājñaḥ) - of the king; तु (tu) - but; याजकैः (yājakaiḥ) - by the priests; तत्र (tatra) - there; कृतः (kṛtaḥ) - was made; वेदीपरिस्तरः (vedīparistaraḥ) - the covering (paristara) of the altar (vedī); जुहाव (juhāva) - he offered oblations; तत्र (tatra) - there; वह्निम् (vahnim) - unto the fire; स (sa) - he; नृपतिः (nṛpatiḥ) - the king; सत्यसङ्गरः (satyasaṅgaraḥ) - the firm in truth;]
(But for the king, by the priests, there was made the covering of the altar; there he, the king, firm in truth, offered oblations into the fire.)

(Then from the bank of the Bhāgīrathī, to Kurukṣetra, he went; he, the king, with his retinue, wise, self-controlled, having his senses restrained.)
Then, departing from the bank of the Bhāgīrathī, the wise and self-controlled king, whose senses were restrained, together with his retinue, went to Kurukṣetra. (15-25-8)
तत्राश्रमपदं धीमानभिगम्य स पार्थिवः। आससादाथ राजर्षिः शतयूपं मनीषिणम् ॥१५-२५-९॥
tatrāśramapadaṁ dhīmān abhigamya sa pārthivaḥ। āsasādātha rājarṣiḥ śatayūpaṁ manīṣiṇam॥15-25-9॥

There, the wise king, having approached the hermitage site, then encountered the royal-sage Śatayūpa, the wise.
स हि राजा महानासीत्केकयेषु परन्तपः। स पुत्रं मनुजैश्वर्ये निवेश्य वनमाविशत् ॥१५-२५-१०॥
sa hi rājā mahān āsīt kekayeṣu parantapaḥ। sa putraṃ manujaiśvarya niveśya vanam āviśat ॥15-25-10॥

tenāsau sahito rājā yayau vyāsāśramaṃ tadā। tatra enam vidhivad rājan pratyagṛhṇāt kurūdvaham ॥15-25-11॥

स दीक्षां तत्र सम्प्राप्य राजा कौरवनन्दनः। शतयूपाश्रमे तस्मिन्निवासमकरोत्तदा ॥१५-२५-१२॥

कर्मणा मनसा वाचा चक्षुषा चापि ते नृप। संनियम्येन्द्रियग्राममास्थिताः परमं तपः ॥१५-२५-१६॥
karmaṇā manasā vācā cakṣuṣā cāpi te nṛpa। saṃniyamyendriyagrāmam-āsthitāḥ paramaṃ tapaḥ ॥15-25-16॥

(The charioteer and knower of dharma and artha, having distinguished intellect, with Sañjaya, attended that king with his wife; (he was) engaged in severe austerity, self-controlled, then emaciated, clad in bark and rags.)
