दुर्योधनादिदर्शनम्
Seeing Duryodhana and others;
वैशम्पायन उवाच॥
Vaiśampāyana said.
ततो निशायां प्राप्तायां कृतसायाह्निकक्रियाः। व्यासमभ्यगमन्सर्वे ये तत्रासन्समागताः ॥१५-४०-१॥
Then, when night had arrived and the evening rituals were performed, all those who were assembled there approached Vyāsa. (15-40-1)
धृतराष्ट्रस्तु धर्मात्मा पाण्डवैः सहितस्तदा। शुचिरेकमनाः सार्धमृषिभिस्तैरुपाविशत् ॥१५-४०-२॥
But Dhṛtarāṣṭra, virtuous of soul, then sat down together with the Pāṇḍavas and the sages, with purity and single-mindedness. (15-40-2)
गान्धार्या सह नार्यस्तु सहिताः समुपाविशन्। पौरजानपदश्चापि जनः सर्वो यथावयः ॥१५-४०-३॥
The women, together with Gandhari, sat down as one group; and all the townspeople and country people, everyone, arranged themselves according to age. (15-40-3)
ततो व्यासो महातेजाः पुण्यं भागीरथीजलम्। अवगाह्याजुहावाथ सर्वाँल्लोकान्महामुनिः ॥१५-४०-४॥
Then Vyāsa, the great sage of immense splendor, having bathed in the sacred waters of the Bhagirathi, invoked all beings of the worlds. (15-40-4)
पाण्डवानां च ये योधाः कौरवाणां च सर्वशः। राजानश्च महाभागा नानादेशनिवासिनः ॥१५-४०-५॥
Those warriors of the Pāṇḍavas and all the warriors of the Kauravas, along with the greatly fortunate kings residing in various lands. (15-40-5)
ततः सुतुमुलः शब्दो जलान्तर्जनमेजय। प्रादुरासीद्यथा पूर्वं कुरुपाण्डवसेनयोः ॥१५-४०-६॥
Then, O Janamejaya, a very tumultuous sound arose within the water, just as it had before, from the armies of the Kurus and Pandavas. (15-40-6)
ततस्ते पार्थिवाः सर्वे भीष्मद्रोणपुरोगमाः। ससैन्याः सलिलात्तस्मात्समुत्तस्थुः सहस्रशः ॥१५-४०-७॥
Then all those kings, led by Bhīṣma and Droṇa, together with their armies, rose up from that water by the thousands. (15-40-7)
विराटद्रुपदौ चोभौ सपुत्रौ सहसैनिकौ। द्रौपदेयाश्च सौभद्रो राक्षसश्च घटोत्कचः ॥१५-४०-८॥
Virāṭa and Drupada, each accompanied by their sons and armies, the sons of Draupadī, Abhimanyu, and the Rākṣasa Ghaṭotkacaḥ. (15-40-8)
कर्णदुर्योधनौ चोभौ शकुनिश्च महारथः। दुःशासनादयश्चैव धार्तराष्ट्रा महारथाः ॥१५-४०-९॥
Both Karṇa and Duryodhana, and Śakuni are great chariot-warriors. And Duḥśāsana and the others, the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, are also great chariot-warriors. (15-40-9)
जारासन्धिर्भगदत्तो जलसन्धश्च पार्थिवः। भूरिश्रवाः शलः शल्यो वृषसेनश्च सानुजः ॥१५-४०-१०॥
Jarasandha, Bhagadatta, Jalasandha the king, Bhurishrava, Shala, Shalya, and Vṛṣasena together with his younger brother (were present). (15-40-10)
लक्ष्मणो राजपुत्रश्च धृष्टद्युम्नस्य चात्मजाः। शिखण्डिपुत्राः सर्वे च धृष्टकेतुश्च सानुजः ॥१५-४०-११॥
Lakṣmaṇa the prince, the sons of Dhṛṣṭadyumna, all the sons of Śikhaṇḍin, and Dhṛṣṭaketu together with his younger brother. (15-40-11)
अचलो वृषकश्चैव राक्षसश्चाप्यलायुधः। बाह्लीकः सोमदत्तश्च चेकितानश्च पार्थिवः ॥१५-४०-१२॥
Acala, Vṛṣaka, Rākṣasa, Alāyudha, Bāhlīka, Somadatta, Cekitāna, and the king—all these were present. (15-40-12)
एते चान्ये च बहवो बहुत्वाद्ये न कीर्तिताः। सर्वे भासुरदेहास्ते समुत्तस्थुर्जलात्ततः ॥१५-४०-१३॥
These and other many, whose names were not mentioned because of their multitude—all with radiant bodies—they all then arose from the water. (15-40-13)
यस्य वीरस्य यो वेषो यो ध्वजो यच्च वाहनम्। तेन तेन व्यदृश्यन्त समुपेता नराधिपाः ॥१५-४०-१४॥
The kings who had assembled appeared each with the attire, banner, and vehicle belonging to each hero. (15-40-14)
दिव्याम्बरधराः सर्वे सर्वे भ्राजिष्णुकुण्डलाः। निर्वैरा निरहङ्कारा विगतक्रोधमन्यवः ॥१५-४०-१५॥
All are wearing divine garments, shining earrings, free from enmity, free from ego, and devoid of anger and passion. (15-40-15)
गन्धर्वैरुपगीयन्तः स्तूयमानाश्च बन्दिभिः। दिव्यमाल्याम्बरधरा वृताश्चाप्सरसां गणैः ॥१५-४०-१६॥
Being sung by the Gandharvas, and praised by bards, adorned with divine garlands and garments, they were surrounded by groups of Apsarases. (15-40-16)
धृतराष्ट्रस्य च तदा दिव्यं चक्षुर्नराधिप। मुनिः सत्यवतीपुत्रः प्रीतः प्रादात्तपोबलात् ॥१५-४०-१७॥
O king, then the sage, the son of Satyavatī, being pleased, bestowed a divine eye upon Dhṛtarāṣṭra by the power of austerity. (15-40-17)
दिव्यज्ञानबलोपेता गान्धारी च यशस्विनी। ददर्श पुत्रांस्तान्सर्वान्ये चान्येऽपि रणे हताः ॥१५-४०-१८॥
Gāndhārī, illustrious and endowed with divine knowledge and strength, saw all her sons and also other slain ones in the battle. (15-40-18)
तदद्भुतमचिन्त्यं च सुमहद्रोमहर्षणम्। विस्मितः स जनः सर्वो ददर्शानिमिषेक्षणः ॥१५-४०-१९॥
Astonished, all those people beheld that wonderful, inconceivable, and very great, hair-raising sight with unblinking eyes. (15-40-19)
तदुत्सवमदोदग्रं हृष्टनारीनराकुलम्। ददृशे बलमायान्तं चित्रं पटगतं यथा ॥१५-४०-२०॥
That army, filled with the exuberance of the festival and crowded with delighted women and men, appeared approaching in a wondrous way, like an image painted on a cloth. (15-40-20)
धृतराष्ट्रस्तु तान्सर्वान्पश्यन्दिव्येन चक्षुषा। मुमुदे भरतश्रेष्ठ प्रसादात्तस्य वै मुनेः ॥१५-४०-२१॥
But Dhritarashtra, seeing all of them with divine sight, rejoiced, O best of the Bharatas, by the favor of that sage indeed. (15-40-21)
